2 years 10 months ago

Space exploring sim No Man's Sky is now letting you get off the ground, and not just in your ships anymore. You're now able to tame and ride low-flying space creatures. Take a gander at that silly flying space squid and tell me you don't want to hop on one right now. Hello Games have also made a pretty sizable visual update to the universe, but I'm honestly just excited about flying ten feet off the ground on my weirdest new pals. How silly and rad.

Days Gone developer Bend Studio says it's working on a new IP

2 years 10 months ago

Bend Studio, perhaps best known as the developer behind 2019's post-apocalyptic bikes-and-zombies adventure Days Gone, has revealed it's working on a new IP.

Days Gone - which initially launched on PS4 before making it way to PC earlier this year - was the studio's first crack at a new IP since its acquisition by Sony in 2000; prior to that game, the developer was largely known for adapting the likes of Uncharted and Resistance for Sony's handheld consoles, the PSP and Vita.

Announcing its next project in a statement on Twitter, Bend wrote, "We are beyond grateful for your support with Days Gone and are truly honoured by the amount of passion our community has shared with us for our world and characters. Your enthusiasm motivates us to continue to improve and create experiences that will last a lifetime."

Don't expect new PlayStation exclusives to come to PC at launch

2 years 10 months ago

Sony have already released former PlayStation exclusives Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone to PC, and Uncharted 4 might well be next, but it seems they still have plans for more. (Which is nice, because three games really isn't that many.) PlayStation boss Herman Hulst says Sony will "continue to look at the right times" to bring more scloosies over. From the sounds of things, we probably won't see those exclusives on PC at launch, however.

Kingston launch new Fury RAM series as they finish up their sale of HyperX

2 years 10 months ago

HP have announced they've completed their acquisition of HyperX, the gaming division of Kingston Technology, for a purchase price of $425 million. It's not yet clear whether HP will carry on using the HyperX name just yet, or whether they'll incorporate HyperX's extensive family of gaming headsets, mice, keyboards, mics and console accessories into their own HP Omen line-up. One thing that is clear, though, is that HP won't be taking Kingston's HyperX RAM with them. Instead, all HyperX RAM will now be rebranded under Kingston's new Fury banner.

Respawn taking "huge steps" to fix Apex Legends DDoS problem

2 years 10 months ago

Over the past few months, Apex Legends players have increasingly reported problems with DDoS attacks in their games: one moment they've been sliding their way around World's Edge, the next, their game has frozen and they've been booted out. It's become a particular issue in Ranked games, where miscreants have used DDoS attacks to artificially boost themselves up the leaderboards. Hoovering up a bunch of disconnected opponents is easier than actually playing the game, after all.

Respawn has already indicated it's taking the situation seriously - banning some behind high-profile cases, and mentioning that it's even considering legal action against those carrying out the attacks. But it seems progress is being made towards a more permanent solution, with security analyst Conor "Hideouts" Ford explaining on Twitter that significant progress has been made on a fix.

"The DDoS situation is being addressed as we speak by our very own @ricklesauceur [lead software engineer Samy Duc]," Ford said. "It isn't the easiest fix in the world but huge steps are being made to take care of this."

Where to buy the Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti: UK and US links

2 years 10 months ago

Nvidia's new RTX 3080 Ti graphics card is now theoretically available, now that we've reached the 2PM UK time (6AM Pacific, 9AM Eastern), 3rd June 2021 release date. Obviously, we're all aware of the state of the graphics card market right now, so all we can do is suggest places that might have stock if you happen to check them at the right time. Anyway, our RTX 3080 Ti review shows that this card is neck-and-neck with the more expensive RTX 3090, making it a far better option for most people - although the original RTX 3080 continues to offer much better value overall. In this article, we'll share the best places in the US and UK to pick up your new RTX 3080 Ti.

So why is this card so hotly anticipated? Put simply, it provides around 10 to 15 percent better performance than the RTX 3080 while costing less than the RTX 3090 - the latter of which is now only really useful if you can make use of its 24GB of VRAM or the weighty heatsink on the 3090 Founders Edition. More importantly though, it's another high-end graphics card in a market where these are simply impossible to find, so the prospect of any new stock is still quite tempting if you can afford the high asking price.

All that is to say that this card is expected to go fast, so here's what you need to know - and the web pages you should probably bookmark!

Guerrilla Games Offers Clarity Regarding Horizon Forbidden West's Release Date

2 years 10 months ago

We recently sat down with some of the team at Guerrilla Games to discuss the latest Sony State of Play, where Horizon Forbidden West's gameplay was finally unveiled. Fans were pining the presentation would also reveal a release date, but were left more puzzled when no release timeframe was given. This included no longer having the previous "2021" listing. We were also curious. Did this mean the game was slipping out of 2021?

To set the record straight, we asked game director Mathijs de Jonge if Horizon Forbidden West was still on track to release this year, or if things had shifted away from that timeframe.  "The development is on track,” de Jonge tells Game Informer. "The thing is, these are just strange times that we're all in and we have never finalized and shipped a game under these kinds of circumstances. So we are constantly calculating our schedules and looking at, ‘Okay, where are we?’ and ‘Are there any unforeseen things that might happen?’ We just want to be super confident when we announce the release date, that we're actually going to hit it. So we just need a little bit more time, and then we can come back with a final release date.”

Horizon Forbidden West Devs On New Abilities, Release Window, And More

2 years 10 months ago

Click here to watch embedded media

Horizon Forbidden West ranks high on our list of most anticipated games, so we were thrilled to finally see the game in action in the latest Sony State of Play. Running on the PlayStation 5, we saw around 14 minutes of gameplay, which introduced us to some awesome features, such as a grappling hook and glider to traverse the new westward landscape with ease, alongside Aloy's new arsenal for taking down mechanical beasts. Get ready for smoke bombs, adhesive grenades, and the ability to shoot weapons off enemies to pick up and give them a taste of their own medicine.

The trailer also brought back a character from Aloy's past, Erend, who will be essential in helping her figure out the mysteries behind an incoming storm, a disease called Red Blight, and a dangerous tribe with the power to override machines.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey releases new patch fixing tons of bugs

2 years 10 months ago

When Elite Dangerous: Odyssey came out on May 19th, it was filled to the brim with bugs. Crashes, performance issues, stability problems - you name it, Odyssey was suffering from it. Developers Frontier issued three hotfix patches in its launch week, but more still needed to be done. Now they've released a sizeable patch that should remove a lot of the jank, addressing issues with the servers, UI, lighting, menus, missions and more.

Four Things To Know About Mario Golf: Super Rush

2 years 10 months ago

A man of a million hobbies and professions, Mario is once again going golfing this summer in Mario Golf: Super Rush. Ahead of the game's June 25 release date, we had a chance to watch about an hour of the game's many modes in a hands-off demo. If you're new to the series (like me!), here's four quick things we learned about the game that will prepare you for hitting the greens.

It's a surprisingly good way to learn about golf

Birdies, pars, bogies, so on and so forth. Golf is full of jargon and terminology that, if you're like me and not an avid golf fan, makes little-to-no sense. Recognizing its player base may not be aficionados, Nintendo has outfitted Super Rush with a helpful glossary that defines all of golf's many terms, helping players get a grasp on the real-life sport. Perhaps a small feature in the grand scheme of things, it stands out as a helpful tool for people that are either A) looking to get into golf or B) just trying to wrap their head around this quasi-sports video game.

How Horizon Forbidden West's New Valor Surges Work

2 years 10 months ago

Last week, we finally saw a good chunk of gameplay for Horizon Forbidden West, which showcased plenty of new powers for Aloy. She can blind foes with smoke bombs, slow and stall machines with adhesive grenades, and shoot off and acquire enemy weapons to turn their own firepower on them. We also saw the addition of Valor Surges to her arsenal and were immediately intrigued.

Valor Surges grant Aloy unique and powerful abilities, such as the ability to knock back enemies, as the State of Play demo showcased. In our recent video interview with members of Guerrilla Games, we couldn't resist asking them more about this new feature and what it will add to combat. Turns out, more than we thought, as you can unlock different ones on the skill tree and they're tied to the playstyle you invest in there.

A Hands-On Look At Neo: The World Ends With You

2 years 10 months ago

Neo: The World Ends With You challenges players to survive a deadly new Reaper’s Game this July. To get ready for what’s in store, I sat down and played through two complete in-game days to get a taste of how Square Enix has changed and improved the experience that made the 2008 original a cult classic.

Story was a big reason why The World Ends With You became so beloved so, for those who want to go in fresh, I'll avoid discussing specific narrative beats for Neo. Instead, I’ll break down the game's two primary pillars, combat and exploration, to give a sense of what they entail and how it's shaping up thus far.

Combat

Neo’s combat is team-focused this time around, with protagonist Rindo leading his squad, the Wicked Twisters, up the ranks of the revamped Reaper’s Game. As we previously revealed, players control the Wicked Sisters simultaneously with actions for each member mapped to a specific button. If you’re a fan of games with similar setups, like Valkyrie Profile or Indivisible, you'll probably feel right at home.
