Resident Evil Village Art Director Addresses Key Mystery: Lady Dimitrescu's Height

3 years 2 months ago

When Capcom debuted the villain of Resident Evil Village, a downright towering vampire woman by the name of Lady Alcina Dimitrescu, they had to have known how, uh...eager the RE fanbase would be to know more about her, right? With her WNBA-shattering height and dominant personality, Lady Dimitrescu quickly became an internet phenomenon, and fans were most excited to learn exactly how tall she is.

Resident Evil fans finally have their answer. RE Village art director Tomonori Tanako released a statement thanking fans for their interest in Village and shed some light on the matter.

character_img-dimitrescu

“Most recently, Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters have received a fair amount of attention, far more than we anticipated” Tanako said. “It’s great that they’re able to take the spotlight as icons of Resident Evil Village. Lady Dimitrescu, especially, has received much fanfare both domestically and overseas, which has made all of us in the development team extremely happy. I hear her height is something of interest….”

“If you include her hat and high heels,” Tanako continued, “[Lady Dimitrescu is] 2.9 meters (approximately 9’6”) tall.”

So there you have it. Capcom has finally released fans from horny jail and subsequently thrown them into the horny wine cellar. We look forward to repeatedly being captured by Resident Evil's big lady.

Resident Evil Village's art director says the Lady D fanfare is 'great' and, oh yeah, she's over nine feet tall

3 years 2 months ago

Capcom just tossed another lore-infused ember into the Lady Dimitrescu fandom fire.

In a message regarding a "very curious fact you may have wondered about," Resident Evil Village art director Tomonori Takano said the tall vampire antagonist and her daughters got "a fair amount of attention, far more than we anticipated," and the team is "extremely happy" fans latched onto them.

He also divulged her height: "if you include her hat and high heels, she's 2.9m (approximately 9'6") tall."

In the lead-up to Village, I've been revisiting past Resident Evil games, as is the time-honored tradition. In the case of Resident Evil 7, which I've already burned through countless times before (in and out of VR), I finally started messing around with Jack's 55th Birthday, a kooky side-mode about running through stages to find food, killing Molded to extend your timer, and feeding the old man as quickly as possible. I am obsessed. In fact, I'm taking a break from S-rank attempts to write this article.

3 years 2 months ago

[Update: Blizzard has posted the full BlizzConline schedule for February 19–20.

The opening ceremony will be just over an hour long, and most of the notable talks will be held on the first day of the show. "Behind the Scenes of Overwatch 2," "Diablo: What's Next," "World of Warcraft: What's Next," and a "Hearthstone Deep Dive" all start at 3:10 pm Pacific (on different streaming channels). There's also a "Diablo Developer Roundtable" at 4:00 pm and a Deep Dive at 5:00 pm.

I feel like my expectations for the show are in check now.]

BlizzCon was called off in favor of the online-only BlizzConline, and the replacement show is nearly ready for our prying eyes. Today, Blizzard shared the dates and stream start times for the event.

Day 1 (February 19) begins at 2:00 pm Pacific with a "first look" preview of the "latest game content the development teams have been working on." It's safe to expect updates on Overwatch 2, Diablo 4, and World of Warcraft, among others. After the main opening segment, BlizzConline will have "three-plus hours" of deep-dive streaming content divvied up between "six different themed channels."

Devs Share A Behind-The Crash Look At Destruction AllStars

3 years 2 months ago

Destruction AllStars crashed into public consciousness last June during Sony’s PlayStation 5 event. At the time of its bombastic reveal, the car-combat title was set for a retail release around the then-upcoming console’s launch. In October, Sony pumped the brakes, announcing that the title was getting delayed to February 2. To mitigate the sting, the company said the game would be available at no extra charge for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Hours from its worldwide launch, we spoke with Destruction AllStars’ senior producer and director to learn about its old-school roots, on-foot action, and how it’s treating cars like guns.

When we spoke, the game was slowly coming to life on the other side of the globe. Players in New Zealand were the first to be able to check out the game, which has been an interesting experience for Colin Berry, director at Lucid Games. “This is the first time I’ve launched a game and now there’s somebody playing it live on Twitch,” he says. “Which is cool and exciting, but I’ve described it as being a bit unnerving.”

Resident Evil Village's Lady Dimitrescu Is Officially Over Nine Feet Tall

3 years 2 months ago

People are excited for Resident Evil Village. Part of that enthusiasm comes from the recent gameplay demo, along with additional details revealed as part of the latest trailer. However, another part of the excitement comes specifically from Lady Dimitrescu, the ghastly, yet compelling woman who has captured fans' attention with her disturbing mystique and towering height.

Capcom is clearly not blind to the role Lady Dimitrescu has played in driving interest in the game so far, because Resident Evil's official Twitter account just released a brief statement from Resident Evil Village art director Tomonori Takano.

https://twitter.com/RE_Games/status/1356391885816823808

First, Takano says the team is very happy about the response the game has received. But most importantly, the message then goes on to clarify the height of everyone's favorite vampiric lass from the upcoming game: Lady Dimitrescu is 2.9 meters tall – or approximately nine feet and six inches.

Nuts, A Squirrel Surveillance Game, Comes To Switch And PC This Week

3 years 2 months ago

When you see squirrels doing their thing in the wild, have you ever wondered what they’re really up to when no one’s looking? As they forage for nuts and make those weird cries, what are they hiding? That’s the premise of Nuts, a bizarre and intriguing narrative surveillance game that's all about spying on squirrels.

The strange game comes from developer Joon, Pol, Muutsch, Char & Torfi and published by Noodlecake. Players control a rookie researcher, who, at the behest Viago University, is tasked with setting up cameras in the remote Melmoth Forest to capture footage of squirrels. The goal is simple: See what they get up to, primarily at night. Gameplay requires trial and error in terms of setting up the correct placement and angle of your cameras to record the best shots. Once that’s done, you’ll review your footage back at your caravan to piece together clues for how squirrels behave in terms of their routes in order to figure out where they hide their stash as well as unravel a larger, potentially sinister mystery surrounding them.

The Division 2 Update Adds Resident Evil Event and Next-Gen Support

3 years 2 months ago

The Division 2 studio Massive Entertainment revealed patch notes for the 12.1 update that adds the limited-time Resident Evil crossover event, next generation support, and other changes.

The Resident Evil crossover event, announced last month at Capcom’s Resident Evil Showcase, will offer various themed outfits and cosmetic items for The Division 2 players.

Players will receive the Leon Kennedy RPD Outfit by simply logging during the event, while the Chris Redfield S.T.A.R.S. Outfit, Umbrella Corporation Operative, Rebecca Chambers S.T.A.R.S. Outfit, and Jill Valentine S.T.A.R.S. Outfit will have to be earned.

There will also be seven new back trophies and four patches that can be earned by completing S.T.A.R.S. Support and S.T.A.R.S. Assault projects. These replace the Base of Operations level 40 daily projects with one available each day.

The event itself runs from Feb. 2 to Feb. 15 with keys needed to be spent by Feb. 26, and is only available for players who have completed the expansion Warlords of New York campaign.

The 12.1 update also adds support for 60 FPS at 4K resolution for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, reduces Optimization Station costs by 75% and recipes by 50%, and changes the Reanimated Global Event so the green cloud produced by killing enemies with headshot now heals players and increases outgoing damage rather than harms.

The Division 2 update will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One after server maintenance has concluded on Tuesday, Feb. 2.

Fans had noticed pretty early on that Lady Dimitrescu is very tall, but her exact height was a mystery until now.

Building awful ski resorts with dangerous slopes in Snowtopia

3 years 2 months ago

Chris: Don't come to my ski lodge. Genuinely, the place is horrible. The queues are unbelievable and the lifts are old and small and there aren't enough of them. The routes I have for you are terrible, terrible routes - dull, but also dangerous. And I have a builder's hut stuck right in the middle of the main area. Don't know what happened there.

The thing is, I have had a brilliant time. Snowtopia is a tycoon game in early access. You have a pristine mountain and then you turn it into a business. You keep everyone happy and fill the slopes with great lines and then you sit back and watch it all work. Or watch it all fail.

But for me, the main appeal at the moment is just the setting. I love these mountains, these beautiful trees. I love trying to find a good line to put up and I love just disappearing off and moving the camera around. Snowtopia is a triumph of setting - it really delivers an alpine flavour. And it has a great name.

Apex Legends' Wraith is getting yet another nerf

3 years 2 months ago

Poor Wraith - she's already had her tactical ability tweaked and her iconic Naruto run removed entirely, but it seems all that still wasn't enough to weaken the legend, as Respawn is now increasing the size of her hitbox.

Wraith has long been a popular pick in Apex Legends due to both her maneuverability and small size. Despite the introduction of the Low Profile perk to increase damage against her and other small legends - along with the removal of her Naruto running animation - it seems Wraith was still too tricky to hit, as her win rate "continue[d] to be at the very top as it has since day one". As explained in the Season 8 patch notes, Respawn hopes to control Wraith's power without nerfing her abilities, and one way to do so is by changing her hitbox.

"Wraith now has a slightly larger hitbox than her fellow small legends, but the changes stay true to her model," Respawn explained. "As you can see in the before and after comparison, we're adding some width mostly in the torso and leg areas."

Climbing inside fear with the makers of Little Nightmares 2

3 years 2 months ago

Why is a game scary? What is it about the mix of ingredients that really chills us, that really creeps inside and messes with our subconscious? I don't think it's the jump-scares. I don't think it's the gore. I think it's something deeper, something more unsettling, something insidious. And there are few games that trade in this kind of fear better than the Little Nightmares series by Swedish studio Tarsier.

The long-awaited sequel is a little under two weeks away now (it releases on 11th February). I had a chance to play Little Nightmares 2 recently, and wrote about it. A demo was also released earlier this month for you to try. Did you? What did you think? Were you as scared of The Teacher as I was?

I've been thinking about her, and about the game, since. I've been thinking about what it means for something to be scary, and how Tarsier manifests terror and frightens us. I've been thinking about fear. And I couldn't think of a better person to ask about it than Dave Mervik, senior narrative designer on the game, and the person who dreamt a lot of the world up.

Yakuza spin-off Judgment confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and… Stadia

3 years 2 months ago

Sega has announced Judgment is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Stadia, but there's no mention of a PC version.

The Yakuza spin-off, which first came out as a PlayStation 4-exclusive back in 2019, launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Stadia on 23rd April 2021 with "refined visuals", 60fps, improved load times and all the previously-released DLC. The new trailer is below:

The announcement of the game for Stadia and not PC has certainly raised eyebrows, coming as it does hot on the heels of Google's own announcement that it is shutting down its internal Stadia studios and offering its streaming tech to publishers.

Fortnite 15.30 Patch Adds New Exotic Weapons, Mando’s Bounty LTM & More

3 years 2 months ago

Epic Games has released the Fortnite 15.30 patch, introducing new weapons — the Burst Quad Launcher, Chug Cannon and Frozen — valentines-themed cosmetics, and a new Mandalorian-based mode.

The news comes via leakers and dataminers on Twitter, such as iFireMonkey and HYPEX.

The three new Exotic weapons will be up for sale from the various NPCs around the map in exchange for Gold Ingots. Thanks to leaks, we already have detailed weapon stats for each of them, as shown in the screenshots below.

The Chug Cannon appears to be a crossbow, with a 1.1 second reload time, capable of dealing 18 damage to players. What we don’t know about this new exotic yet is whether or not it can also heal players, as ‘Chug’ is a term commonly used for healing items in the game, like the Chug Jug of seasons-past.

Netflix has its own GameStop stonks movie in the works

3 years 2 months ago

It was just yesterday that we reported MGM Studios had acquired the movie rights to an as-yet-unwritten book concerning the strange case of GameStop, WallStreetBets, and the U.S. financial market. Well, I hope you're up for a double - or even triple - bill, as Netflix is apparently also getting to work on its own small screen adaptation of the phenomenon.

Again reported by Deadline, the movie-streaming service and production company is already outlining a currently untitled retelling of the past fortnight's events, which has seen Redditors skyrocket ailing GameStop stock, much to the chagrin of short-selling hedge fund managers. The Netflix production will reportedly be written by Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty), and will star Noah Centineo (The Diary, Black Adam) in an unspecified role. Producer roles fall to Makeready's Brad Weston and Definition's Nick Styne.

While Netflix is yet to officially announce the film or its direction, it is believed that the production will focus on the changing world market in the advent of social media, and how the proliferation of sites such as Reddit and Twitter have allowed for the challenging of long-held norms and status quos within society - fueling movements, activism, and involvement within circles that were previously gated-off to the public at large.
