James Stevenson, Insomniac's Community Director, revealed on Twitter that the style comes from the 'Vibe the Verse' suit modification, rather than being part of just the Spider-Verse suit.

Genshin Impact's Plans for the Future - Developers Want to Tell a Years-Long Story

3 years 6 months ago
With Genshin Impact's first major update, 'A New Star Approaches', arriving on November 11, we naturally wanted to know what miHoYo has planned for its open world adventure beyond that - and discovered the developer is working to a years-long timescale, and how player behaviour will change where the game goes next. Speaking to IGN, producer and CEO Hugh Tsai, explained that 1.1 is all about "polishing off the Liyue story" that began at Genshin Impact's launch, "while also continuing to enrich and improve players' general experience in the game." As for what comes after that, Tsai explains that "The addition of Dragonspine in Version 1.2 will mark the first major map expansion since the game's release. New gameplay will also be added at that time, but we can't reveal any specific details on that just yet. Stay tuned!" We also know that version 1.3 will add the Lantern Rite Festival event. But what about the overall philosophy for additions to Genshin Impact? Well, it seems that how the game progresses, and the stories told along the way, are somewhat up to the players themselves: "Ultimately, how we will advance the Genshin Impact story is not set in stone. We will consider where players are up to in their journey through [the game world] Teyvat when planning out new content, and either advance the main story or add stand-alone stories on the side. The bottom line, though, is that whatever we do will focus on telling the story of the Traveler's journey through Teyvat." It's clear that the overall goal is to add all seven major regions of Teyvat. The game launched with two, and Dragonspine will mark the third, but it'll be some time before the entirety of the world will be open to players: "At present, our team is still very much focused on releasing and refining the content for Teyvat.

Genshin Impact 1.1 Update Details Revealed, Coming November

3 years 6 months ago
Genshin Impact's 1.1 content update, called 'A New Star Approaches', is coming to PC, Android, iOS and PS4 on November 11. The game will also be playable via backwards compatibility on PS5. IGN can reveal that the update will add four new playable characters (two of which are 5-star characters), a brand new series of quests, the game's first seasonal event, and a new Reputation system for individual regions of the game. You can check out a trailer for the 1.1 update below: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/29/genshin-impact-version-11-announcement-trailer"] Check out details for each of the new additions below:

New Characters

The update adds four new characters. Childe is a 5-star hydro archer that, unlike any other character, can switch between melee and ranged attacks. Zhongli is a 5-star geo polearm wielder with high defense, strong area-of-effect attacks, and can petrify enemies. Xinyan and Diona are new 4-star characters who have not yet been detailed, but will offer "more effective elemental combos and combat strategies".

New Quests

No major details have been revealed for the new series of quests coming in the 1.1 update, but we know that it will include the grand finale of the Liyue chapter, meaning there will be three full acts of quests in the core storyline. Producer and CEO Hugh Tsai tells IGN that more character-specific side quests will be added, too.

Seasonal Event - 'Unreconciled Stars'

Unreconciled Stars is a two-week event, "which calls on all players to fight back against a sudden and terrible catastrophe facing Teyvat". The event will add a series of quests, co-op challenges, and will offer rewards including 4-star character Fischl.

Reputation System

The new Reputation system will give players a separate rating in each of the game's cities, which will build upon completing activities in the surrounding region.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Merges With Warzone In December

3 years 6 months ago
Activision has revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will integrate with Call of Duty: Warzone in December, the month after the main game launches. The integration between the two games will come as Black Ops Cold War enters its first season, just weeks after its November 13 launch. Black Ops Cold War weapons and operators will be made available in Warzone, as well as battle pass and store content. Players will also be able to use their Cold War multiplayer loadouts in Warzone. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/15/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-fireteam-dirty-bomb-trailer"] The merge was explained as part of Activision’s latest investor call. "We'll bring Black Ops Cold War's characters and weaponry into the free-to-play experience," said Daniel Alegre, the company’s chief operating officer. "Along with substantial new content ensuring that Warzone remains both a terrific experience and a powerful on-ramp for the franchise's premium content." Activision president Rob Kostich further elaborated on this: “For example, all the awesome new Black Ops weapons and operators you unlock and your level one to 55 progression will be usable in Black Ops and in Warzone just like they work in Modern Warfare.” "One cool feature that players will see is that they'll be able to choose either their Black Ops loadout or their Modern Warfare loadouts in Warzone for their gameplay," he added. While this system sounds practically identical to the way Warzone works with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, there are some elements that make this integration a little more interesting. If you’ve played the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War alpha, then you’ll know the new game plays and feels very differently to Modern Warfare, with the guns providing much of that change.

Mobile Gears of War spin-off Gears Pop! closes down April 2021

Gears Pop! closes down in April 2021, Microsoft has announced.

The mobile real-time strategy game, developed by Fall Guys maker Mediatonic, launched in August 2019 as a spin-off from the main Gears of War series. It's got Funko Pop!-stylised characters. Our Christian Donlan called Gears Pop! "Clash Royale with a bit of Stormbound chucked in".

Microsoft announced Gears Pop! at E3 2018 alongside Gears 5 and Gears Tactics as part of a significant push of the franchise into new genres. The Coalition's Gears 5 launched on PC and Xbox One in September 2019, and is set to enjoy a boost from its next-gen optimisation in November. Splash Damage's Gears Tactics came out April 2020 on PC, and launches on consoles alongside the Xbox Series X. Clearly, Gears Pop! hasn't taken off.

Sony Reportedly Close to Crunchyroll Acquisition

3 years 6 months ago

Sony is close to striking an acquisition deal with US anime subscription service Crunchyroll, according to a report from Nikkei Asia today. The purchase is expected to cost Sony somewhere in the region of 100 billion yen ($957 million) in exchange for the service’s 70 million members and 1,000 anime titles.

It’s a move that could position Sony as a competitor with the likes of Netflix and Hulu, a battleground that’s expected to hot up considerably as COVID-19 continues to keep people at home and searching for digital entertainment.

Nikkei offers some key figures relevant to the potential acquisition in its report:

  • Crunchyroll was founded in 2006 and has its headquarters in San Francisco. In 2018, AT&T, the U.S. telecommunications giant, became its parent company.
  • Crunchyroll has 70 million free members and 3 million paying subscribers in more than 200 countries and regions, including the U.S. and Europe.
  • Nikkei cites Sony’s total operating income from games, music and movies is forecast to reach $4.79 billion for the fiscal year ending March, accounting for 60% of the group total.
  • According to The Association of Japanese Animations, the global anime market in 2018 was worth about $21 billion, 1.5 times that of five years earlier. The overseas market accounts for nearly half of total demand.

Sony is set to launch its PlayStation 5 console in less than a month, which is expected to further solidify the gaming segment of the company as its largest.

Twinfinite recently reported an upcoming Shenmue anime is in the works and coming to Crunchyroll.

For more on Valhalla, you can check out a new trailer and artwork of its post-launch content, including the Beowulf mission.

For information on how Ubisoft is handling cross-generational titles and free upgrades, Twinfinite recently reported a trailer that detailed its strategy and the processes involved.

There are a ton of major Destiny 2 changes on the way, including a Power Cap shift

3 years 6 months ago

Destiny 2 is about to shift into a completely different game.

Bungie is vaulting a ton of content, but there's an expansion on the horizon too, which is bringing some significant changes to the game, like an extra skill tree and a new storyline. To help players both new and old acclimate, Bungie provided a rundown of some of the newer developments for the Beyond Light expansion; most notably the power alterations.

When people start trying to max out in Beyond Light, they'll aim for the soft cap of 1200 power. From there, they'll climb (hopefully not in a grindy way) to the hard cap of 1250. Then there's the (please don't be more grindy) pinnacle cap of 1260. That all comes to fruition on November 10: just in case you need to start planning on how to get raid-ready early.

Bungie is also making a welcome change to powerful rewards. In their own words: "We have a change coming that will allow you to have a chance to earn Powerful rewards from strikes, Gambit, Crucible, and from Seasonal drops all the way up until the Hard Cap. It will still be much quicker to continue to complete all the Powerful reward sources each week, but if you just want to play strikes or Crucible matches all day every day, you can continue to earn Powerful rewards."

3 years 6 months ago

Premium merchandise maker Prime 1 Studio has unveiled a marvelous pair of statues depicting Resident Evil protagonists Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, styled after the dynamic duo's recent appearance in 2019 remake Resident Evil 2.

Each 1/4 scale statue stands roughly 22 inches in height and features the respective heroes caught in the midst of mayhem at the R.C.P.D. - while laying waste to two unfortunate members of Raccoon City's newly-dead city-dwellers. Fine details include the scattering of various supplies, a damaged, ornate staircase, and gruesome wounds on the hapless zombies' rotten bodies. Grisly stuff.

My Nintendo keeps adding physical rewards: This time it's Pikmin swag

3 years 6 months ago

Oh, so now you're rapidly adding physical rewards to My Nintendo, Nintendo!

After years of leaving the service dormant in the wake of the fantastic Club Nintendo service, the publisher has finally decided to wake the sleeping giant. We've gotten an array of physical rewards recently, including swag for Xenoblade Chronicles, Animal Crossing, and several Mario games. Now two Pikmin 3 rewards are available.

So here's the rundown. Nintendo added a "deluxe coaster set" (of four 4"x4" coasters) that feature both the Pikmin themselves and a Bulborb enemy. You can snag that for 400 Platinum Points. Or, you can pick up the "Deluxe Drinkware Decal" set, which contains nine re-usable stickers that can obviously be used for anything; but are "intended" to be stuck onto glasses. That's also 400 Platinum PointsThat same news link also has a few free Pikmin wallpapers for both PC and mobile devices.

As a reminder, you can get some easy Platinum Points with our guide here. Make sure you keep a stock of Platinum (I'd say around 600-800 to be safe), just in case a killer reward enters the fray.

Enjoy a plucky adventure with Pikmin 3 Deluxe and new My Nintendo rewards [My Nintendo]

Eivor sounds like he's selling expensive athleisure in this Assassin's Creed Valhalla trailer

3 years 6 months ago

Ah yes, here’s the face of Eivor. You know him for being the muscly, bearded bloke in Ubisoft’s upcoming Vikings game Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. No surprise such a famous fella would be getting deals to appear in commercials for—sorry, wait, he’s still repping his own game that’s not out yet? I dunno, are you absolutely sure he’s not selling performance-enhancing basketball shorts or something? Oh alright, I suppose he is still drumming up views for Valhalla until it launches in November.

Roccat Vulcan Pro TKL review

3 years 6 months ago

A photo of the Roccat Vulcan Pro TKL.

The Roccat Vulcan has been sitting at the top of my [cms-block] list ever since it first came out at the beginning of 2019. Its superb build quality and Roccat’s brilliant mechanical Titan switches were a winning combination in my eyes, so I was extra intrigued when they announced that not only were they making a smaller, tenkeyless version of the original Vulcan, the Vulcan TKL, but that they were also introducing two new Vulcan Pro models with their new Titan Optical switch as well.

I’ve been testing the smaller of these two Vulcan Pro models for the past couple of weeks – the Vulcan Pro TKL – and I can confirm it’s every bit as lovely as the full-sized original.

Let’s See How Accurate Watch Dogs Legion’s London Really Is

Raven Co-Founder Talks Soldier of Fortune and its Then-Revolutionary Dismemberment System

3 years 6 months ago
Raven Software co-founder Brian Raffel has revealed details about working with Soldier of Fortune consultant John Mullins and creating the first limb dismemberment system in video games. IGN's Ryan McCaffrey sat down with Raffel to discuss Raven Software's broad history in the latest episode of IGN Unfiltered, along with discussions on Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War, Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Hexen, Heretic, Soldier of Fortune, and more. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/1999/07/21/soldier-of-fortune-pc-games-gameplay"] Soldier of Fortune is a military shooter based on the popular real-world magazine of the same name and was built on the Quake 2 engine. It was perhaps most notable for the GHOUL tech that allowed individual limb dismemberment for the first time in games, a mechanic which would go on to become relatively common in the shooter genre, and even become a central pillar of games like Dead Space. It was also used to create realistic lightsaber damage and limb severing in Raven's later game, Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. Before beginning the discussion in earnest, Raffel revealed the motivation for the creation of the GHOUL system. "Let me just be clear: there was no goal to make this... to just make it super violent. The goal was, and this came from my brother, Steve... He's like 'Let's just make it as realistic as possible.' So that was the goal. And what is the most realistic thing? Instead of just shooting a body and having it just drop and fade away, we wanted to make it as realistic as possible, not for the sake of violence, but just for the sake of reality." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-campaign-screenshots&captions=true"] Raffel also commented on the first time he saw the tech in action. "I still remember the day, though, when we got the GHOUL system in. Of course, we saw the shooting of the limbs...
