Ubisoft Expects “Great Year” for PS5 & Xbox Series X; Comments on Microsoft, Sony, & Nintendo’s Ways

3 years 6 months ago

During Ubisoft’s financial conference call for investors and analysts related to the second quarter of fiscal year 2020/2021, CEO Yves Guillemot talked about the next generation.

Guillemot expressed optimism for the commercial performance of the next-gen consoles both this year and the next.

That being said, he also mentioned the expectation that they will be in short supply this year.

“What we can say about the next-gen consoles is that they will certainly be in short supply compared with demand and we’re very happy that all of our games for the end of this year are taking full advantage of these new consoles.

We expect next year to be a great year for next-gen consoles as well and demand will also be extremely strong”

Asked to comment on Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda and whether their commitment to Xbox Game Pass could be a killer application for the next-generation, Guillemot took the chance to discuss all first-parties.

“In fact, we’re in a very interesting industry because there are now more and more forms to sell our games. What we see is that the quality of the experience remains a very important point.

When you create exceptional games people come and buy them where they are and in the form they want. We’ll see more and more possibilities in the future to consume those games.

So yes, Microsoft is doing a good job and there are also other ways to do good business. Sony is progressing extremely well as well with their way of doing things, which is different from Microsoft.

Far Cry 6 & Rainbow Six Quarantine Coming Between April & September 2021; Avatar Game Delayed to After March 2022

3 years 6 months ago

During Ubisoft’s financial conference call for investors and analysts related to the second quarter of fiscal year 2020/2021, CEO Yves Guillemot and CFO Frédérick Duguet talked added more information on the delay of Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six Quarantine.

Following the reveal of the delay to fiscal year 2021/2022, Duguet clarified that they will come in the “first half” of the fiscal year, meaning between April and September 2021.

Later in the call, Douguet mentioned that development for both games is going well, so Ubisoft is very confident that they will be ready in the period mentioned above.

CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that if COVID had not impacted development, both games would have been released in time. Currently, they’re undergoing optimization and it’s “coming along.”

On top of that, Douguet confirmed that Skull & Bones is still scheduled for the same fiscal year, meaning between April 2021 and March 2022. The development of S&B has also been defined as “going well.”

Incidentally, he then hinted that there could be 3-4 AAA games next year, possibly meaning that there could be another in the pipeline.

The same fiscal year will also see the release of the first game coming from the partnership with Tencent.

Lastly, Duguet mentioned that the upcoming Avatar game has been delayed to the following fiscal year (2021/2022), meaning after March 2022 due to the delay of the corresponding film by James Cameron.

Considering that the game has been announced a long time ago, I’m guessing waiting a little longer won’t hurt the fans all that much.

Sony Shares Impressive Ghost Of Tsushima: Legends Stats But Fails to Mention How Many Dogs Have Been Pet

3 years 6 months ago

The official PlayStation Twitter account shared an infographic today to reveal some impressive gameplay stats regarding Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, a new cooperative multiplayer mode available as a free download for owners of the base game.

According to PlayStation, over 11.7 million Legends Mode missions have been played, 141 million Oni have been defeated, 22.7 million Spirit Dogs were summoned, and 1.3 billion enemies have been killed. To top it all off, it turns out that the Assassin is the most popular of the four playable classes.

The publisher failed to mention absolutely anything about the most important unknown stat: how many dogs have been petted? Tis a shame. There’s actually spirit bears that you can pet as well, so it’s a double shame to leave this crucial information out of the infographic. You can take a look at it down below:

World of Warcraft's delayed Shadowlands expansion gets new November release date

3 years 6 months ago

World of Warcraft's Shadowlands expansion, which was delayed earlier this month just week's before its originally anticipated October release date, will now launch on 23rd November.

Blizzard had initially told World of Warcraft fans to expect Shadowlands on 27th October, but made the decision to postpone launch after it decided it had "become clear we need a little more time for additional polish, and to balance and iterate on some interlocking pieces".

In a new statement released alongside today's revised launch date, the developer explained it had use the additional time to "further polish the expansion and shore up the endgame, including overhauling the combat and rewards in the Maw, and reworking the Covenant systems to make your choice more immediately impactful and have clearer-long term goals."

Square Enix Reveals New Final Fantasy XVI Art And Story Details

3 years 6 months ago

Remember waiting years for Final Fantasy XV and desperately lapping up any new information on it? After the reveal of Final Fantasy XVI last month, some fans were bracing themselves for another long road of sparse information. But today, we're already learning more about the upcoming RPG; Square Enix launched a website providing additional background. Some new key art backs up a detailed synopsis of the world, central characters, and lore.

The website introduces us to stoic protagonist Clive Rosfield, his affectionate younger brother Joshua, and their trusted childhood friend, Jill Warrick. The brothers Rosfield share an interesting dynamic in that Clive, the brave and dedicated knight, merely guards the Phoenix’s awesome power while Joshua, a sheepish bookworm, is the human chosen to wield it. It’ll be fun to see how the relationship between them and their sister-from-another-mother Jill plays out.

Ghostrunner On Console Is The Worst Way To Play

3 years 6 months ago

Based on what I've seen of reviews and preview builds, I feel like you might have a good time playing Ghostrunner on PC. However, I've been playing the game on Xbox One. I can assure you the game I'm playing on console cannot be the same game people are loving on PC. After several hours playing the first-person platformer from One More Level, it's painfully clear this game was not made with consoles in mind, since my time has been plagued by clumsy controls and imprecise platforming.

Ghostrunner is built around speed and agility. Its opening CG cutscene shows the robot protagonist (aptly named "Ghostrunner") barreling through a neon-drenched cyberpunk city, chopping bad guys in half, and flying through the air. It's one of those scenes that plays before a lot of games, seemingly showing the character pulling off stylish feats that players will never actually perform in the game itself. But for the most part, Ghostrunner delivers on its opening cinematic's promise; from the minute you're given control, you too are jumping high in the air, dashing around foes, and cutting them into bloody bits. It looks cool. It feels terrible.

I tugged on the latest No More Heroes 3 trailer and hints of what's to come came out

3 years 6 months ago

Yesterday was full of surprises for hack-and-slash fans who own a Switch. Not only did Nintendo release a two-hour demo of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity but then Xseed simultaneously shadow-dropped No More Heroes 1 & 2 on the system at the same time! Just like that, owners of the hot hybrid console were instantly covered in a sticky mess of violent crowd-skewering action.

Now that we've all had a day to rest on those releases, maybe it's a good time to swing back around to the new trailer for No More Heroes 3 and see what we can find. From the looks of it, the game will be less a direct sequel to No More Heroes 2 and more of a continuation of the lesser-known No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again, the actual third game in the series. New interstellar villain FU appears to be standing on a boardroom table, which we can guess is in the office of Damon Riccitiello, Travis Strikes Again's CEO antagonist and not-so-veiled parody of former EA CEO John Riccitiello.

PS5 and Xbox Series X are both getting an online restock at Best Buy

3 years 6 months ago

If you don't already have a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X pre-ordered by now, you probably have to just accept the fact that you're not getting one on launch day. That's the unfortunate reality of new-gen fever. Maybe -- if you're quick and lucky and punctual and seriously very lucky -- you can get one shortly thereafter.

Best Buy has released its Black Friday deals, and the paper ad spills the beans on an upcoming restock for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. Limited quantities will be made available online.

Now here's the tricky part: It doesn't say when the "Out of Stock" button gets its Cinderella moment and turns into an "Add to Cart" button. It's a Black Friday deal and it's in the flier that's going in Thanksgiving Day newspapers. You have to think it's sometime actually on Black Friday. Still, we don't know the exact time, and that's a very crucial detail considering the inventory will last minutes at most.

All hope isn't quite yet lost when it comes to getting a next-gen console before 2020's over. You'll just need to be extremely diligent. Sending good vibes your way that you're lucky enough to get to that "Add to Cart" button before it turns back into a pumpkin.

The Steam Halloween Sale has lots of cheap games that still hold up in 2020

3 years 6 months ago

Horror games are some of my absolute favorites to revisit, so when I see Halloween sales pop up, that's immediately where my mind goes: "look at all these scary games I could totally be replaying right now." There's something about re-facing my fears and knowing what lies ahead that I find so satisfying.

The 2020 Steam Halloween Sale began today, and while there are deals on newer releases – I suspect plenty of people will nab Phasmophobia while it's 10% off – the bulk of the sale concerns older games.

I could point to The Forest ($8.99), Darkest Dungeon ($6.24), Little Nightmares ($3.99), Dead Space ($4.99), Outlast ($2.99), Grim Dawn ($6.24), SOMA ($2.99), or Amnesia: The Dark Descent ($1.99).

The Last Blade is the latest Neo-Geo Pocket title to hit Nintendo Switch

3 years 6 months ago

In the continuation of its efforts to bring a range of Neo-Geo Pocket Color classics to Nintendo Switch, SNK has released The Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny, which first launched for the super-clicky handheld back in 2000.

A scaled-down version of one of SNK's most noble but underplayed fighting titles, The Last Blade is similar in design, tone, and theme to Samurai Shodown, but hosts its own party of sword-swinging ninjas and samurai. The NGPC edition not only features Story and Survival modes alongside its standard Vs. play, but also includes a couple of fun mini-games - a regular feature of many great NGPC releases.

Now available to purchase from the Nintendo eShop for around $8. This retro re-release will give pocket fighting fans the chance to check out one of the harder-to-find titles for the Neo-Geo Pocket Color platform, and hopefully sets the way for the future release of Match of the Millenium, which is undoubtedly mired in some form of licensing hell.

In related news, SNK has announced that a mystery Last Blade character will also be joining the roster of Samurai Shodown (2019) as part of the latter's season three content.

15 Scary Games To Make Halloween 2020 Even More Terrifying

3 years 6 months ago

Phasmophobia

The first scary game on this list is none other than Phasmophobia which took the internet by storm this year. Cooperative or solo, players take on the roles of both ghost hunter and detective as they explore different houses and buildings to figure out what kind of supernatural being is haunting the area. Through the use of tools like religious crosses, video cameras, and incense, players need to gather clues to identify the supernatural beings to properly end their haunting. While controlled through a first person perspective, you have the option to utilize VR for an even closer and more immersive experience.

Dead Space

Dead Space is a horror classic at this point in video game history and for good reason. For those of you who have yet to play this insane game, Dead Space is a third person survival horror game set against the backdrop of a space station falling apart. Being stuck on an infested space station overrun by terrifying creatures birthed by a Lovecraftian artifact leaves you feeling some type of way and the atmosphere easily reflects the feeling of this eerie and unsettling situation. Even after 12 years, Dead Space is a scary game that still manages to freak you out.

The Blair Witch and Ghostbusters video games are currently free on the Epic Store

3 years 6 months ago

Those looking for some spooky treats to spice up this imminent Halloween weekend would do well to point their mouse fingers in the direction of the Epic Store, where The Blair Witch and Ghostbusters video games are both currently free to download and keep.

That's two pleasingly ghoulish offerings, albeit at completely opposite ends of the spooky scale. The Blair Witch, for instance, is where you'll want to go for a more traditional horror fix, taking developer Bloober Team's distinctive brand of surreal, spatially impossible first-person horror and transplanting it deep into the Black Hills forest of Burkittsville, Maryland.

The ensuing adventure, which sees former police officer Ellis Lynch - and his dog Bullet - joining the hunt for a missing boy, is a fascinating, frequently effective, if rather uneven endeavour.
