Netflix's The Witcher Recasts Eskel

3 years 7 months ago

A small hiccup caused the need for an Eskel re-cast, but the team was ready to get it handled! No worries, The Witcher fans, season two is back on track.

Previously, The Way to Mandalay's Thue Ersted Rasmussen was set to play the role of Eskel in Netflix's The Witcher season two. Unfortunately, there was a scheduling conflict due to complications related to COVID-19, which has caused the crew to rethink who should bring this character to life.

The actor took to his Instagram to relay the news of his departure from the show with an added note of positivity for the remaining cast:

The Last Of Us Part II GIFs Let You React To Any Online Situation

3 years 7 months ago

Why say something with words when you can say it with images instead? And why use images that don't feature characters from The Last of Us Part II? If you find yourself asking questions like these, then you will be delighted by this collection of pictures shared by Naughty Dog. It features an array of ubiquitous reaction GIFs, except all the usual folks are replaced by familiar faces from the game like Ellie, Joel, Dina, and more.

The album is part of the studio's celebration of The Last of Us Day (formerly known as Outbreak Day). The holiday falls on September 26 – the day of the outbreak in the The Last of Us universe. Some images in the collection have been making the rounds for a few months, but it's nice to see them all officially together in one place.

The trailer once again shows off Nikolai and Farah, presumably the two new operators working together to secure and use the previously revealed subways that they powered up last time around.

I’m Trying To Kill Fewer Enemies In Spelunky 2

3 years 7 months ago

Spelunky 2 can be a violent experience. While searching for the main character’s parents is its ostensible goal, you sure do a lot of killing along the way. I’m doing my part to stem the tide of violence with a self-imposed goal: kill as few enemies as possible.

Podtoid asks which film is worse: Superman IV, Over the Top, or Masters of the Universe?

3 years 7 months ago

While Podtoid is and will always be a podcast about gaming, sometimes the crew just likes to chat about movies. And when it's only Chris, Occams, and CJ on the show, you can be sure those movies will be from the '80s. On this week's show, the boys talk about the rise and fall of Cannon Films, horror flicks, Spellbreak, and the big Bethesda purchase. All that, plus pumpkin spice flavors where they don't belong, on Podtoid Episode 460.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon doesn't have cross-saves between PS4 and PS5

3 years 7 months ago

It took mere hours for that goodwill Sega earned to go right out the window. Earlier this morning, we found out that Yakuza: Like a Dragon will offer free next-gen upgrades on PlayStation. Of course, it's not just that easy.

Anyone who buys Yakuza: Like a Dragon on PS4 will get a free upgrade to the PS5 version when it launches on March 2, 2021. However, developer RGG Studio clarifies that saves aren't compatible between the two versions:

Are you collecting every star in Super Mario 3D All-Stars?

3 years 7 months ago

We're two weekends into Super Mario 3D All-Stars' limited availability window, and I've gotta ask: is anyone else out there collecting every last trinket in Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy? I can't help myself.

After reaching the castle basement, I decided to sideline 64 and circle back once I had completed Sunshine and Galaxy. Capping off this Switch bundle with the oldest (and arguably dearest) game in the lineup just seems right to me. And don't tell anyone, but I've secretly been most excited to replay Sunshine – not because it's the best, which it absolutely, definitively is not – but because Delfino Plaza is my favorite hub to explore and hang out in by far. It's a joy to traverse the moment you're let loose.

Looking out into an endless ocean in this spruced-up Switch version? Blissful summer vibes.

Sunshine becomes much less of a joy when you're going after frustrating optional Shines like the toxic lily pad ride or you're combing multiple episodes in the same stage to unearth all 240 Blue Coins.

Lily Pad Ride[Image credit]

Let me put it this way: my YouTube feed is flooded with Blue Coin location videos – if you're in a pinch, I suggest EmptyGarbageCan's "condensed" guides – and mistakes were made. You should've seen the look on my face when I ended three different zones with 29 out of 30 coins. I swear I shot the blue bird!

Free-to-play action RPG Genshin Impact is out now

3 years 7 months ago

Free-to-play action RPG Genshin Impact is out now on PC, PS4, iOS, and Android and heck, it actually seems pretty enticing. The very Breath Of The Wild-looking fantasy game gives you elemental powers to wield in action combat, a party to build, and a colorful world to explore. Better yet, you can pull your pals on other systems into co-op with cross-platform multiplayer.

Crusader Kings 3's patch 1.1 culls excessive bastardisation and other AI quirks

3 years 7 months ago

Medieval conquer ’em up Crusader Kings 3 will be pushing out a huge patch to fix all sorts of bugs and AI oddities. Really though, it almost feels like some of these bugs deserve to stay. They’re hard-working bugs, folks. The strategy simulation is adding fixes for overzealous spymasters, children with poor role models, and Popes with a taste for the flesh of the faithful.

Call Of Duty Season 6: Haunting Of Verdansk Event Gives Us Vampire Bats, Plus More Warzone Changes

3 years 7 months ago

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone's season 6 arrives on September 29 and brings with it a ton of new features to enjoy as well as the upcoming Haunting of Verdansk event. Even better? The Halloween event gives us vampire bats, what more do we need?

A new way to fast travel arrives with season 6 thanks to the in-game Metro in addition to new operators, new maps, and the haunting new mid-season event with The Haunting of Verdansk. Who needs attack ravens when you can have vampire bats instead? The Haunting of Verdansk offers a new kind of flying fiend in addition to other cosmetic rewards in-line with the event itself.

The Haunting of Verdansk arrives on October 20 and will run until November 3. We don't know much about the Halloween event other than the bats and that rewards are on the way, but that doesn't mean there aren't a ton of other features players to look forward to.

Criminal Girls X/Escape from Asura Gets New Gameplay Videos Showing Battle, Menus, and More

3 years 7 months ago

Today Developer Mikage released a few videos of its upcoming JRPG Criminal Girls X, also known as Escape from Asura in the west.

The videos showcase a battle and several aspects of the game’s menus, including the Reminiscence feature, settings, equipment, and More.

Incidentally, while the game is releasing in Japan for Android on October 8 and iOS and PC on November 17, we already know that it’s coming to the west with the title Escape from Asura for PS4 and Nintendo Switch, localized by Aksys.

Interestingly, a few months ago, Mikage mentioned that it would come west for PS5 and PC as well, but the official western announcement from a few months ago did not include these platforms.

At the moment, we don’t have any information about what will be changed for the console version. That being said, you can watch the videos below.

If you want to see more, you can also enjoy a previous trailer focusing on the story.

Nioh 2 is getting ninja claws with Darkness in the Capital

3 years 7 months ago

It feels like I just beat up yokai with Benkei in Nioh 2: The Tengu's Disciple the other day, but Team Ninja is already coming back with Darkness in the Capital, the second story expansion, on October 15.

During Tokyo Game Show 2020, the studio shared an eight-minute preview of the DLC's new claw weapon that's going to look familiar to any Ninja Gaiden II fan who enjoyed slicing and dicing limbs with Ryu's Falcon's Talons. I'm liking this trend so far. Ninja Gaiden is a fantastic series to draw from.

The footage shows a Demon Parade Picture Scroll mission, so we aren't going to glean any lore or see new enemies this time, but it's a good first look at the claw moveset. The leaps and backflips look fun.

As for the story, it's another time-traveling romp. We're headed back to ancient Kyoto.

Here's more evidence that points toward a Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit remaster

3 years 7 months ago

So often, the path that connects rumor and reality passes by all the same landmarks. A lot of times, we'll get a leak by way of retailer listing. A little while later, some country's ratings board will confirm a game long before a publisher announces it. By then, the suspense is long gone.

That's the route we're taking with an upcoming remaster of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. In June, VentureBeat first outed the remaster. Then, in August, Amazon UK went live with a new Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit listing. Now, the Korean Games Rating and Administration Committee has a new page for the remaster.

One, two, three strikes and you're a real game. Sources say that the Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit remaster is due in November, but that might've changed because of COVID delays. Switch is the primary platform that has been mentioned, but it'll probably come elsewhere too. We'll find out the details whenever EA feels like formally announcing it. For now, however, it seems pretty likely that Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit remastered is more than just a rumor.

It looks like more news on Pokémon Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra expansion is coming tomorrow

3 years 7 months ago

The Pokémon Company has announced it'll be sharing more information on Pokémon Sword and Shield's Expansion Pass - presumably with a focus on the game's second expansion, The Crown Tundra - tomorrow, 29th September, during a new Direct-style presentation.

In a bout of largely needless mystery, The Pokemon Company promises that tomorrow's broadcast, which kicks off at 2pm in the UK/6am PT, will feature "updates for you about upcoming the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass and Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass".

Given that one half of that expansion pass, The Isle of Armor, has been out since June, it doesn't seem totally unreasonable to assume that, surprises aside, the vast majority of tomorrow's livestream will be focussed on its second component, The Crown Tundra.

Unpopular Gaming Opinion: GI Edition

3 years 7 months ago

Unpopular opinions aren't all "I hate this game" stances, sometimes it's enjoying an adventure that really seemed to draw a lot of ire. Sometimes it's simply not understanding a connection that the community as a whole seems to have. What's important is that every video game hits differently and it's okay to feel how you feel about any given title.

With our takes, we want to make sure our readers know that these are just personal opinions and in no way is us saying X game was great or Y game was terrible! These are just how certain adventures resonated with us on an individual basis or how we feel about other topics in the gaming space.

Andrew Reiner, Editor-in-Chief – Achievements

I’m a huge fan of achievements. My Xbox Gamerscore is over 350,000, and while I say it’s a product of me playing as many games as I can, it also comes from me sinking time into 'bad' games that give out easy achievements. Yes, I will play something terrible if it gives me meaningless points. I call them meaningless, and they are in terms of being nothing other than numbers, but I love them and find it is almost like a game within a game to see how many points I can gather to pump up those numbers.
