You're going for the gold in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare this weekend. That's a deviation from the norm, because usually you're just out for blood. It'll be nice to add some conventional trophies to your collection to go along with the creepy necklace you made from fingers of people you killed.
Modern Warfare's Games of Summer event kicks off today, and it's an Olympics-style challenge with a Call of Duty twist. Every day brings a new challenge where players try to earn gold medals. Here's the rundown of events:

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has a performance mode that's causing a rift in next-gen expectations
As the capstone finale to yesterday's gamescom: Opening Night Live, Insomniac Games shared an extended gameplay trailer of the PS5's Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. It was a delightful little look at all the nuts and bolts of this interdimensional mechanical shooter. Later, Insomniac confirmed that Rift Apart is squared away as a "PS5 launch window" title, assuring everyone it'll be one of the first(ish) games you can play on new hardware.
Today, through an interview with Japanese publication Famitsu, Insomniac revealed a new tech target for Ratchet & Clank. It'll have a dedicated performance mode that ups the framerate from 30fps to 60fps:

Rogue Company needs a heaping scoop of personality if it wants to stand out
Rogue Company is a difficult game to write about. When I sit down at my computer to type, its bland and basic world begins to fade from my mind, and I struggle to think of anything meaningful to say about it. Despite its diverse cast of characters, fast-paced shooting action, and sufficiently smooth gameplay on my Switch, it just doesn't leave a lasting impact. The experience scuttles from my mind, and the only thought I can muster about it amounts to no more than an admission that I did indeed just play an online shooter.
Maybe that's because nothing about Rogue Company is original. This is a checklist of a game, cribbing features and modes from other popular titles and stitching them together in this third-person, squad-based shooter. There are dancing emotes, the ping system from Apex Legends, sprays, characters with their own unique abilities, a between-match weapons upgrade system, and modes recycled from games that came before it. You've seen this all before, and chances are, you've seen it done better than it is here.

Sea Of Thieves will add dog companions which you can snuggle, obviously
Lo and behold, just a few weeks after I finally broke down and got myself a ship cat, Sea Of Thieves have released a new developer update confirming that they’ll be adding dogs to the high seas as well. Rare say that other updates are coming in September as well, and that monthly updates with bug fixes and new features will continue.
Co-op physics platforming monstrosity Struggling is out now
This one looks like a possible friendship-ender. Co-op physics are tough enough, as are platforming games. Struggling is both of those things and—as the cherry on top of your character’s horrifying head—you and your partner are each controlling one of two horrifying, connected appendages. This physics disaster is out now if you’re really ready to test your co-op communication.
Daedalic Entertainment Details Lord of the Rings: Gollum in Brief Video
Most of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is still shrouded in mystery, but developer Daedalic Entertainment has revealed some key details about the game.
During the Gamescom Future Games Show held on Aug. 28, a new video was streamed wherein Gollum’s project manager Saide Haberstroh shed some light on how the game would play. First and foremost, she made it clear that the game aim to blend action and storytelling to provide an engaging experience on par with other media tied to the franchise.
At the same time though, it wouldn’t be a combat-filled affair.
“Gollum is not exactly a fighter who charges into battle,” Haberstroh says. “Players will have to weigh their options for every encounter.”
Fortunately, players will have plenty of options. Most every level will feature a variety of options for sneaking and platforming around threats, or at the very least placing one’s self in a better position for an attack.
Should all else fail though, players will also be able to talk their way out of situations. Not only that, but they’ll be able to choose between responding as Gollum or Sméagol, offering a way to address situations as whichever personality they believe would best fit the situation.
Each choice, however, will come with ramifications. Using responses tied to one personality more often than the other could make that personality stronger, leading to dialogue options or consequences further down the line.
It’s an informative look at the game fans won’t want to miss. The full video can be found down below.
BPM: Bullets Per Minute Is a Doom-Like, Rhythmic FPS; Here’s Some New Gameplay
During the Future Games Show livestream presentation today hosted by GamesRadar, Awe Interactive showed off some explosive new gameplay for BPM: Bullets Per Minute.
This rhythmic, first-person shooter looks a lot like id Software’s Doom franchise, but there are some mechanics here that truly makes this title something unique and fresh.
Instead of being a traditional FPS, Bullets Per Minute has randomly generated dungeons and each of your runs will be different from the last thanks to different weapons and ability that you can obtain.
You can check out the new trailer below to get a feel for how it plays, but if you’re someone who loves rhythm games and fast-paced shooters, this might need to be on your radar:
Here are some of the features from the game’s Steam listing:

Microsoft Flight Simulator Gets First Free Major Airport Add-On
While the first free add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator have been gradually appearing, they were mostly portraying minor airfields, until now.
Aerosoft, which is one of the biggest third-party add-on providers for various games in the genre, has published the first relatively major airport available for free.
It’s Paderborn/Lippstadt airport in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and it’s definitely worth downloading from Aerosoft’s website.
It comes with the following features:
- Detailed recreation of Paderborn airport
- Custom aerial images covering the airport and surrounding area
- Current runway, taxiway, and stand layouts
- Custom taxiway signage
- Realistic night time lighting
- Accurate depiction of the terminal interior
- Custom jetway models
- Custom windsock models
Given the level of detail, the download isn’t exactly small, requiring 3,6 gigabytes of storage space.
You won’t even need our guide to install free add-ons, because this one comes with its own dedicated installer.

Black Ops’ Cold War Reveal Is a Perfect Example of How Activision Can Leverage Warzone
Yesterday, Activision revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War via a live event in their hit battle royale, Warzone. In squads of four, players had to kill five enemies, loot a code from a dead body, find a hidden crate, and collect a blueprint from Woods, the iconic Black Ops hero.
It was more than a simple mission that sent you running around Verdansk, however. It was a presentation; a visual and interactive spectacle that showed off the power Warzone can have.
The screen would shake, mysterious voices shouted around you, and planes flew above as teams scrambled to complete the checklist. It showcases that Warzone can be more than a game. Activision can use it as a marketing tool, engaging players and building hype in a way that few games have or ever could.

Here's a look at the new Ni no Kuni game
There's a brand new Ni no Kuni game in the works, and it puts an interesting spin on the acclaimed anime RPG series. Titled Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds, this is an MMORPG. And it's releasing on mobile devices. And it's only in Japan.
Hey, where are you going?!
Despite all those caveats -- caveats that ensure the vast majority of you will never play this -- Cross Worlds has an intriguing approach. According to this translation from Gematsu, this Ni no Kuni puts you in the role of a beta tester on a VR game. You discover that the real world and Ni no Kuni's world are connected, and you have to travel between the two to rebuild the kingdom. If you're successful, you'll save both realms from ruin.
None of that really speaks to how Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is an MMO though. It also doesn't really offer any explanation as to how the game works. It sure looks nice, though.
Ni no Kuni's mobile efforts actually outpace the PC/console games now. This will be the third Ni no Kuni title for smartphones in Japan. However, it's the first to try something as ambitious as an MMORPG bent.
Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is being developed by Netmarble and published by Level-5. It'll launch on iOS and Android devices in Japan sometime in 2020. If that goes successfully enough, maybe it'll find its way west at some point.
Pharaoh: A New Era is a 2021 remake of the old city-builder
Have any room in your life for a city-builder? What about a modern take on an old classic? Dotemu and Triskell Interactive are bringing back Impressions Games' 1999 Egypt builder Pharaoh in 2021.
The announcement trailer is light on gameplay – stick around until the final seconds for a glimpse – but we've got a pair of screenshots for Pharaoh: A New Era in the gallery below that you can pick apart.
This "Ultra HD remake" was created with "all-new code" and it's also promising a revamped UI and "improved mechanics." Content-wise, Pharaoh: A New Era covers the base game and the Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile expansion, so it's going to be a huge time-sink with 50-plus missions.
Some of these late-'90s PC remakes have a way of feeling slightly "off," for lack of a better word. There isn't much to go on yet for Pharaoh, and I'm hopeful it won't fall into that same trap – I dig the 2D art.
Do any of you have a soft spot for the original? I always meant to try Zeus.

Serious Sam 4 will let you pilot the Pope's personal mech
I had heard that Serious Sam 4 would let us drive a Popemobile. I had not heard that the Popemobile in question is a giant heavily-armed mech whose boot-up sequence dialogue concludes, “All systems ready. Let God sort them out.” A new trailer hot out of Gamescom today shows the Popemobile in action, smashing a tentacle monster in the middle Vatican City and alright, yup, this is some big brash stupid spectacle I can get behind. See the Pope’s private Evangelion in action in the trailer below.
Sorry, Assassin's Creed Valhalla takes place after Ragnar Lothbrok is dead
Every time an Assassin’s Creed setting is revealed, it feels like there’s a flurry of speculation on which historical and legendary folks will show up for a cameo. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes place at just about the right time to cross paths with legendary viking Ragnar Lothbrok so it seemed like perhaps we might arrange a meeting.
Apparently not, according to Ubisoft’s new gameplay video. You just missed him actually. He went and got thrown in a snake pit just a couple years back. They did show off some mythical monsters you’ll go up against instead.
Serious Sam 4 Gets New Gameplay Footage
Today during the Future Games Show, we saw a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming first person shooter Serious Sam 4.
The new trailer shows off some of the combat in the game through Serious Sam’s mech as he navigates hazards and shooting enemies through Vatican City. The gameplay looks fast-paced with stunning visuals.
According to the developer Croteam, here’s what you can expect from Serious Sam 4:
Humanity is under siege as the full force of Mental’s hordes spread across the world, ravaging what remains of a broken and beaten civilization. The last remaining resistance to the invasion is the Earth Defense Force led by Sam “Serious” Stone and his heavily-armed squad of misfit commandos.
Croteam returns with a high-powered prequel to the Serious Sam series that scales up chaos to unprecedented levels. The classic Serious Sam formula is revamped by putting an unstoppable arsenal up against an unimaginable number of enemies that requires players to circle-strafe and backpedal-blast their way out of impossible situations.
Serious Sam is a franchise that’s been around since 2001, and this upcoming game is a direct sequel of the one that was released back in 2011. It’s been a long wait for the latest entry in the series, but luckily Serious Sam 4 is right around the corner.
The game will launch first on PC and Stadia on Sept. 4 and will release in 2021 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
If you’re interested in learning more about Serious Sam 4, you can watch the trailer that was revealed earlier this month or read more about it on the official Croteam website right here.
Bright Memory Infinite Gets Flashy, Action-Filled New Trailer
Much of Bright Memory Infinite is still shrouded in mystery, but a new trailer shows that its action and aesthetic strive to be top of the line.
Streamed during Gamesradar’s Future Games Show held during Gamescom on Aug. 28, the trailer starts off slow with hints of a story. The game’s protagonist, decked out in futuristic gear, takes a call from someone before heading out toward an unknown objective.
Things quickly amp up though, as the trailer quickly cuts to footage of her dropping into a battlefield before sneaking, slashing and blasting her way through a number of armed soldiers. Some carry the same futuristic tech and equipment as her, but others appear to be out of different eras or points in time entirely.
Regardless, she takes them all on, utilizing a number of firearms, a sword and a grappling wire to take them out in quick succession.
It all culminates in a battles between her and a masked swordsman who moves around at inhuman speeds. The two clash swords again and again, with the protagonist utilizing her gunplay and maneuverability to its full extent, before the masked figure vanishes and the trailer cuts to black.
One can’t argue that it’s a stylish trailer, even if thefiner points of the game’s story still remains heavily shrouded in mystery. Fans of first person shooters and action titles will definitely want to give the full trailer a look for themselves down below.
