Call of Duty: Warzone Update to Add Limited Time 200-Player Matches

3 years 10 months ago
Call of Duty: Warzone will soon be getting a new limited-time 200 Player Battle Royale mode that will allow 50 Quads of Operators to fight for victory. This new mode will arrive alongside a brand new Season Four Reloaded update on June 29 at 11pm PT and on June 30 at 2am ET/7am BST that will also add a new weapon, map, operator, and much more. Warzone currently supports up to 150 players, and this new limited time Quads mode will allow for 50 more players. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/11/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-warzone-official-season-four-trailer"] The update will have a download size of 22-36 GB for owners of the full version of Modern Warfare, with console owners needing a secondary 3.5 GB download. Free-to-Play Warzone players can expect a download of 22-30 GB. According to Activision, once these updates are finished, there will be "a reduction to the overall footprint on their machines." There will also be new Supply Run Contracts in Warzone. Once activated, your team will be directed to a nearby Buy Station. If it is reached in time, a discount on Buy Station purchases will be applied. Juggernaut Royale mode will also become available. In this mode, there will be airdropped care packages that will allow players to become the Juggernaut with a mini-gun and high armor. Once a Juggernaut is defeated, a new care package will drop, giving someone else a chance to become the fearsome soldier. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=call-of-duty-modern-warfare-and-warzone-season-4-screenshots&captions=true"] A Spotter Scope will also be put around Verdansk. While sniper scopes can be spotted by other players by the glint of sunshine when they are used, this new scope has none of that.

Crash Bandicoot 4: New Gameplay Shows New Tricks, Returning Moves

3 years 10 months ago
After years and years of entries that tried but often didn’t quite capture the magic of the original trilogy, we’re actually getting a proper Crash Bandicoot 4. Crash 4: It’s About Time comes from developers Toys for Bob, who have a long history with platformers, most recently tackling the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. With our first look at Crash Bandicoot 4 gameplay and details, we saw some of the various time-hopping locales Crash and Coco will venture off to. Thanks to a bit of new, exclusive footage, which you can watch in the video breakdown below, we can also see how a level will flow, and many of the new moves, ideas, and returning gameplay tricks Crash 4 will bring later this year. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/29/crash-bandicoot-4-new-gameplay-shows-new-tricks-returning-moves"] This pirate-themed level takes Crash from the seaside shore through a seeming pirate cove to a cavernous end-of-level treasure area. And, thankfully, a lot of the staples of the Crash experience appear intact, which Toys for Bob has said is a key component of why they called this Crash 4. Wumpa, Aku Aku, Nitro, and TNT crates all return as collectibles and hazards around the world. There’s also a few new crates thrown into the mix, including one that spits fire in several directions, as well as a golden Wumpa fruit crate at the end of the level. Speaking of the end of the level, in true Crash original trilogy form, we’ve got a crate counter tallying your success in aiming to 100% the level by smashing every crate in sight. It’s a familiar touchstone, but an important one. And another seemingly returning aspect is time trials, as a stopwatch appears at the start of the level.

Super Nintendo World Theme Park Opening Delayed Indefinitely

3 years 10 months ago
The Super Nintendo World theme park's opening has been indefinitely delayed in Japan. Universal Studios Japan is planning to postpone the opening of its upcoming Nintendo-theme land in Osaka as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, according to NHK World-Japan. The theme park, which is heavily based on Nintendo's Mario franchise, is nearly complete. This includes not just construction of the land, but themed rides and restaurants as well. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=super-nintendo-world-press-conference-images&captions=true"] The park was originally set to open in July but because of COVID-19, the park's opening has been delayed indefinitely, likely to give Universal Studios time to review the pandemic landscape and determine a safer opening date. Because construction on the land is near complete, it's unlikely this delay was made in order to give the company more time to work on the park itself. Because of the popularity of Nintendo, Mario, and the idea of a new land opening within Universal Studios Japan, the company is expecting an increased number of visitors to the park. This poses an even larger threat to the safety of guests in the midst of a pandemic. As such, Universal Studios Japan said it is unsure of when the new Nintendo-themed land will open. The rest of Universal Studios Japan opened on June 8 to guests from the local Kansai area. It also limited guest numbers by half of its standard capacity. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/06/08/super-nintendo-world-japan-teaser-trailer"] It may not be open, but there are still plenty of ways to get a glimpse of the park.

This is a very confusing half-assed reveal for Ubisoft's free-to-play battle royale

3 years 10 months ago

The worst-kept secret this morning is Ubisoft's new free-to-play battle royale Hyper Scape. But, it's unclear if it's even meant to be a secret any longer. The tease might've crossed the threshold into reveal. It's all too haphazard to tell.

Here's the story thus far, which Eurogamer has done a good job to wrangle together. Rod Breslau, an esports insider, tweeted that Ubisoft Montreal is working on this first-person shooter battle royale:

The Last of Us Part II fends off... Bravely Second?! in this week's UK Charts

3 years 10 months ago

In a very odd turn of events, Square Enix 2015 RPG Bravely Second: End Layer has rocketed back up the UK Charts, slamming into the number two spot some five years after its original release.

This bizarre feat was achieved due a huge sell-off of stock at UK retailer Argos, who were offering the Nintendo 3DS title for a pithy £2.49 (roughly five bucks). An understandable slew of sales then saw the title jam back into the Top 40. Had it not been for the might of current number one - Sony's The Last of Us Part II - then the dramatic anime adventure might have actually found itself at number one in the Year of our Lord 2020. Wild.

Speaking of The Last of Us, the incredible success of the sequel has seen the original game also re-enter the Top Ten at number nine. This is quite a feat given that TLOU has not only been a PlayStation Plus title, but is frequently available at low prices. THQ Nordic's SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated had a comfortable physical launch, debuting at number three. Of note, Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare left the Top Ten for the first time since its release back in October 2019.

Our first look at Crysis Remastered comes Wednesday morning

3 years 10 months ago

Maybe it's just that I have the attention span of a goldfish, but the Crysis remaster completely fell off my Nanosuit's radar. It was announced in mid-April and then radio silence. That's kind of unusual for a game that's due to release within a month or two.

The cloaking device will be deactivated on Wednesday, as Crytek gives us an updated look at island life. The first Crysis Remastered gameplay trailer is coming July 1 at 9am Pacific. Will it be hot? In my experience, it's not so much the heat as it is the gosh darn humidity.

But it might be the heat! Crysis Remastered is slated for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. If the remaster approaches the original's level of performance notoriety, Switches will melt and people will die.

We'll find out sometime soon because Crysis Remastered is currently scheduled to release this summer, and there's only about two months of the season left. We'll find out what it all looks like even sooner. Set your alarm clock for Wednesday morning. Your Nanosuit has all those nifty gadgets, it's gotta have an alarm clock tucked away somewhere.

Square Enix to reveal several new titles over July/August

3 years 10 months ago

The cancellation of E3, (along with numerous other industry events), certainly put a big ol' wrench in the plans of multiple publishers, who have since taken to holding their own shows and presentations in order to present their upcoming wares to the public.

One such publisher is Square Enix, who had several big titles lined up for E3 this year and, as such, continue to remain under wraps. Not for much longer, however, as the publisher has revealed in a recent interview that it plans to unveil these titles over the July-August period.

"We would normally announce new games at E3," said Square in an interview with No Investment, No Life. "We had planned to have a press conference as a replacement event, but were unable to do so since assets were not complete... We'll be announcing new titles individually as the timing permits. Several will debut around July to August."

Obviously one of Square's E3 reveals was intended to be rhythm-action spin-off Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, which was rush-announced the day after its logo was leaked. As for what else Square Enix has prepared for the rest of 2020 and beyond, we'll just have to wait and see.

Rise of the Tomb Raider, Erica are July's PlayStation Plus games

3 years 10 months ago

PlayStation Plus is ten years old today! And what's occurring to mark this auspicious occasion over at Sony? Why, it's revealed the next batch of games to be included as part of the service this July, and here they are now: Rise of the Tomb Raider, NBA 2K20, and FMV adventure Erica.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration is, of course, the second entry (plus DLC) in developer Crystal Dynamics' three-game re-imagining of the classic Tomb Raider franchise, and does, by and large, offer more of the same as its predecessor. It's a tense, tightly constructed, if rather unremittingly grim, adventure that, this time, sees Lara maiming and murdering (and occasionally puzzling) her way across Siberia in search of the Lost City of Kitezh.

"Rise of the Tomb Raider is a well-made game," wrote Oli Welsh back in 2015, "It's a handsome and solidly entertaining, if seldom inspired, way to while away a dozen hours. It has a famous name and an avatar of real dynamic power at its centre. It has tombs to raid. That ought to be enough. It shouldn't have to reach. But reach it does - for an emotional hook it doesn't have, and for trendy gimmicks it doesn't need."

Nintendo Releases Strange "Can You Guess The Game" Video, Prompting Speculation

3 years 10 months ago

Nintendo fans are always eagerly anticipating the next Nintendo Direct, but the YouTube account of the Japanese company delivered something offbeat today: a minute-long video challenging fans to "guess the game." The games are introduced with blurry footage that slowly resolves to reveal a first-party Nintendo game.

Needless to say, some fans have expressed their confusion over this video, with many of the YouTube comments speculating that new content might be revealed soon for one or more of these games. The games listed were (spoiler warning) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8, and Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Crysis Remastered Will Debut Gameplay This Week, Watch It Here

3 years 10 months ago

Crysis Remastered was officially revealed with a teaser a few weeks ago, but this week we'll finally get to see exactly what the nearly 13-year-old game will look like with some improved graphical features.

The gameplay debut for Crysis Remastered is set for July 1 and will go live at 12 PM ET / 9 AM PT / 6 PM CEST. Although no details about what will be shown have been shared, Crytek did reveal in its initial announcement that the remaster will introduce a "hardware and API-agnostic ray tracing solution," which will allow the graphical enhancement to run on current-generation consoles.

Crysis Remastered is expected to just include the first game, which was originally developed by Crytek in 2007. It was set on an island that featured wide combat areas, letting you experiment with how you used a variety of suit powers to dispatch enemies. Both Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 converted this formula into a more traditional linear shooter, while also streamlining some of your suit powers, making some fans yearn for the return of the original.

Twitch Bans President Trump Temporarily For "Hateful Conduct"

3 years 10 months ago

Streaming service Twitch has temporarily suspended the account of President Donald Trump. Unlike some of the other recent bans it's handed out, it offered more specific reasoning for this move, perhaps due to the high-profile nature of the action. The company pointed to its policy on hateful conduct and even cited specific violations from past streams, which both involved the broadcast of Trump campaign rallies.

In a statement shared with GameSpot, a Twitch spokesperson said, "Hateful conduct is not allowed on Twitch. In line with our policies, President Trump’s channel has been issued a temporary suspension from Twitch for comments made on stream, and the offending content has been removed." The length of the ban was not shared.

It also referred to its hateful conduct rules and provided the transcript for comments from the channel's streams that violate these rules. They are as follows:

Call Of Duty: Warzone Adding 200-Player Mode In Big Modern Warfare Update

The update will be available at 11 PM PT on June 29. The new limited-time 200-player battle royale was detailed in a new season roadmap. The update will be 22GB-30GB for Warzone standalone players, and 22-36GB for Modern Warfare players. Once the update is installed, it will "minimally increase" the total footprint of Modern Warfare, and slightly decrease the total footprint of standalone Warzone.

The Best Nintendo Switch Grip Now Comes In Animal Crossing-Inspired Colors

3 years 10 months ago

There's a lot to love about the Nintendo Switch--its portability, its exclusives, its relatively affordable price tag--but for a console that's designed to also be used as a handheld, there's a major drawback: Portable mode is just uncomfortable. The flat Switch and Joy-Cons offer very little to grab onto when you're trying to play in bed, on the couch, or elsewhere, and because of the button placement, it's easy for your hands to start feeling a little cramped. It's a little surprising Nintendo hasn't come out with an official accessory of its own to address this issue, but fortunately, several third-party accessories brands have.

Nintendo Switch grips attach onto the console and give you a much more ergonomic grip when playing handheld, and one of the best Nintendo Switch grips just became even more appealing, as it's now available in two new shades that are clearly inspired by Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Rumored Cheaper Xbox Series X Model To Be Announced In August, Report Says

3 years 10 months ago

Microsoft will reportedly announce its lower-powered next-gen console in August after a quiet June. According to a report by Eurogamer, Microsoft had originally planned to announce the console, codenamed Lockhart, as part of its Xbox E3 press conference during June, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Microsoft announced that it would be doing monthly events leading up to the release of the console, named Xbox 20/20, starting in May. It is unknown when exactly the decision was made to move the reveal from June to August, but June will end without an Xbox 20/20 event. June instead had a series of Xbox Wire posts detailing how some next-gen titles would be taking advantage of the Xbox Series X and the announcement that Mixer is shutting down in July.

The rumored Xbox Series S reportedly has the same CPU as the high-end Xbox Series X, with a different GPU and less usable RAM. The console is also rumored to not have a disc drive and be cheaper than the Series X.

Let's Overreact To What Hideo Kojima Has On His Desk

3 years 10 months ago

Hideo Kojima has never been shy about messing with his fans, and a recent tweet is no exception. In it, Kojima reveals the contents of his desk-top, which includes a BB from his last game, Death Stranding. There's been no word on a sequel to his divisive take on the "walking simulator" as of yet, and some fans are hoping this tweet indicates a tease of sorts.

The photo also includes a sketch of what appears to be a Star Destroyer, which is a spacecraft from Star Wars. If somehow Hideo Kojima manages to make an official Star Wars game, our lives would never be the same, but that possibility seems rather dubious for now.

Report: Microsoft Announcing Xbox Series S In August

3 years 10 months ago
Xbox Series X

It has long been rumored that Microsoft is preparing a second next-gen system codenamed Lockhart which is cheaper and less high-powered than the announced Xbox Series X. Eurogamer reports that this version – also known as the Xbox Series S – is going to debut in August.

The Series S – named similar to the cheaper Xbox One S – was originally going to debut in June at E3, but Microsoft had to change those plans when the industry event was canceled.

Microsoft has yet to announce the official date and price for the Series X, but it will be out this holiday season. Whether the Series S releases alongside the Series X also remains to be seen. Perhaps all will be revealed in August.

3 years 6 months ago
The XIII remake is set to release for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on November 10 (see it on Amazon). A souped-up version of the 2003 original, this new XIII will maintain the comic book-inspired art style, but present it in HD. The soundtrack and audio work, including voice acting by the likes of David Duchovny, will also be remastered. Something of a cult classic, XIII tells the tale of an amnesiac military operative who wakes up to discover he's being hunted by a pair of villainous organizations. The Last of Us Part 2 Was Once More Open World in Development

3 years 10 months ago
The Last of Us Part 2 takes a lot of design cues and lessons from developer Naughty Dog’s recent games, including its direct predecessor and the Uncharted series. The final result is a linearly focused adventure, but one that often opens up into the studio’s biggest environments and levels. And at one point, it could have been an even greater departure from past games. Speaking to IGN ahead of The Last of Us Part 2’s release, director Neil Druckmann discussed how early ideas of the game had taken on an open-world design. Warning: Major spoilers for The Last of Us Part 2 follow. Turn back if you haven’t finished! [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/the-last-of-us-part-2-ps4-pro-limited-edition-unboxing"] [poilib element="accentDivider"] “The game initially was this open world thing. And you spent all this time in Jackson,” Druckmann, who also spoke to us about The Last of Us Part 2's ambitious story, explained. Jackson, Wyoming is the first major location for the sequel, which spends most of its time in the Pacific Northwest. In Jackson, though, we see where Ellie and Joel have been living in the ensuing years since the end of The Last of Us. There’s a full community here, and in the final release of the sequel, we meet other citizens like Dina, Jesse, Maria, and Seth, while hearing stories about others like Eugene. The more time players would have spent in Jackson also altered the way Abby, the main second playable protagonist, was introduced. “Abby joined the community and you were playing as this new character until she betrayed Joel later on,” Druckmann explained.

The Let it Die team teased 'a new title' and Uncle Death is in the dark

3 years 10 months ago

In a silly video uploaded today, GungHo Online teased "a new title" from the team behind Let it Die.

Uncle Death, the game's mascot, recently went missing. The team tracked him down to "some creepy basement" only to find him sitting beside a little shrine to director Hideyuki Shin, surrounded by cardboard. They informed him that Let it Die passed the six-million-download mark across PS4 and PC.

He seemed shocked. Uncle Death said he was "living it up like a king" when the free-to-play game first took off, but then the "royalty payments started drying up," and the debt collectors began calling. "Think about it, if we have six million downloads, shouldn't I be getting a bit more money?"

The skateboarding reaper also claimed he "heard a rumor that the staff who created Let it Die have gathered to create a new title." The developers didn't divulge anything to him (or us), but they closed out the video by saying they're "now accepting messages of encouragement for Uncle Death."

Hang in there, boss. You can't live off white bread and single-serving sake cups forever.
