If you’ve heard of esports, you might also be familiar with “sports,” a spinoff of esports that people somehow play without computers. Twitch, which made its name on esports, has recently become very interested in these un-electronic sports and seems to really hope they’ll catch on.
We've covered a few "weird" Resident Evil Village mods in the past, including turning Lady Dimitrescu into Thomas the Tank Engine and fighting off a horde of the world's friendliest purple dinosaur with Barney, but there is still so much oddness out there. Resident Evil Village is already pretty weird, especially when looking at how much Capcom apparently hates Ethan Winters' hands, but trust me when I say that it can get a lot weirder. So, without further ado, let's talk about some of the weirdest Resident Evil Village mods that you need to try.
Before diving in, some of these are made just for the demo (not all though). If you like them, however, keep tabs because full versions are on the way.
PlayStation's Days of Play event returns and promises a ton of goodies for all gamers on Team Blue. From free multiplayer to nifty new challenges, there is a lot to look forward to with the event's return, so let's dive in and see what's ahead.
First and foremost, we have the return of PlayStation Player Celebration. This particular celebration offers a special event that allows the community to come together to achieve a shared set of challenges in the hopes of earning some sweet, sweet, freebies such as PSN avatars and PS4 themes. Registration for this event is live and will remain so until May 31. The main event kicks off on May 18, here's how to register and what to do:
Log on May 18 with the first stage of community goals: Games Goal
Play PS4 and PS5 games to hit the targeted number of games for each weekly goal
The event features a few games goal, which means total number of titles played, a Trophies goal for earned Trophies, and a bonus goal. Once the first two achievements are won, then the bonus goal will unlock.
If you still want more Nier in your life, Square Enix and Applibot have announced the pre-registration for the mobile spinoff NieR Re[in]carnation is open today for North America and Europe.
Nier Reincarnation is a whole new mobile RPG set in the Nier universe directed by Yoko Taro and Daichi Matsukawa. Nier Reincarnation stars a Girl in White who wakes up in a realm called the Cage. This girl is aided by a ghost named Mama and two venture into this world trying to regain the girl's memories.
The eternal production of Skull & Bones, Ubisoft's multiplayer pirate game, shall continue on. The publisher confirmed that Skull & Bones won't be launching until at least 2022.
In an earnings report, Ubisoft laid out the road ahead for its various titles over the next fiscal year, which runs through March 31, 2022. Far Cry 6, Riders Republic, The Division Heartland, Roller Champions, and the game somehow still under this titleRainbow Six Quarantine. Ubisoft made special note of Skull & Bones as well, saying it will now be released in "2022-2023"—which means sometime between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023.
Last week PlayStation revealed a pair of PlayStation 5 themed sneakers with Nike, and now it looks like Xbox is partnering with Adidas on its own console-themed shoes.
Complex cites "sources familiar with the upcoming collaboration" in its report, which offers a sample of an Xbox-branded Adidas shoe. The brand deal remains unannounced, but Complex says that the schedule of the collaboration will see four Xbox-themed shoes coming this year, with more potentially planned for 2022.

The 2021 shoes mentioned will all reportedly be variants of Adidas' popular Forum basketball silhouette. As can be seen in the image of a work-in-progress sample above, the shoe has multiple Xbox details, including a distinct logo on the side and a lattice trim around the heel reminiscent of the top vent of the Xbox Series X.
Have you ever stumbled across a Steam Store page, scrolled down to the 'About This Game' section, and found a real mess? Here's how to avoid that with your own project. ...
More Nier is on its way to the west. Pre-registrations opened today for U.S. Android and iOS users to check out Nier Reincarnation, the mobile entry in the Nier series.
Stylized as NieR Re[in]carnation, it's a "command-action RPG" from Square Enix and Applibot. You can find the Google Play Store and App Store links here.
"It is a place called The Cage," the story description reads. "A girl awakens on a cold stone floor. She finds herself in an infinitely vast place filled with buildings that touch the very sky. Guided by a mysterious creature who calls herself Mama, she begins to explore her new surroundings.
"To reclaim what she has lost—and atone for her sins—she sets off on a journey through this place of unknown creation."
It definitely has some Nier style, though it looks like you also collect a party of various characters for combat. And yes, it looks to have gacha mechanics, through currencies and summons. Nier Reincarnation has been available in Japan for a little while now and already accumulated a pretty good amount of downloads, so hopefully that's a sign of good things to come when it arrives here.
World of Warships has added Godzilla and King Kong. The rest of the words in this paragraph are probably meaningless because you’re now trying to imagine that. I could just talk about my cat for a few sentences, but professionalism, and Graham, forces me to keep on track. The twin titans of the best movie of 2021 are available as commanders for the F2P naval battle sim, where they’ll stand on top of a pair of new battleships like badly misshapen sails.
The director of the 2013 found footage horror film Frankenstein's Army has accused Capcom of using one of his monster designs in Resident Evil Village. I won't say too much more before the cut, because there are big spoilers for the game (and the film, I guess) in this post. But I will say: I did a little giggle when I saw the monster. I'm sorry, maybe it's very scary with more context around it. You tell me Resi players and Frankie's Army watchers: do these beasts give you The Fear?
From Snowman, the creative minds behind super-chill games like Alto’s Adventure and Skate City, comes Pok Pok, a new studio dedicated to super-chill creative play-based learning for kids—open-ended play that inspires children to imagine and think. Sounds like a nifty goal.
Riot Games seem to be experimenting with another less competitive game mode in their guns 'n wizards FPS Valorant. Replication is a new best-of-nine Spike planting mode with a rather chaotic gimmick - players on the same team will all have to play as the same agent. I know what you're thinking: 'Oh god, I'm going to be perpetually blinded by five Breaches'. But thankfully, Riot are adding in a little feature called Flashguard that should at least let you see for a couple of seconds.
CI Games has announced that stealthy shooter Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 will not arrive on PS5 June 4, alongside its PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S brethren. The PS5 port of the head-popping sequel has been pushed back to late-2021 due to "unforeseen technical issues" discovered just weeks before the title's launch.
Reverse-engineered GTA code was restored after its developer filed a DMCA counterclaim on GitHub.
TorrentFreak reports GitHub restored a fork of the fan-made re3 project after its creator filed a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown counter-claim.
As Eurogamer reported in February, the Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City reverse-engineering fan project known as re3 was hit by a DMCA filed by Rockstar parent company Take-Two that claimed copyright infringement.
After Gears of War developer The Coalition confirmed that it was working on 'multiple new projects', rumors sprung up saying the team was working on a Star Wars game. Sadly, that's not the case.
In a Reddit post by senior community manager Shaun Akerman (TC_Kilo on Reddit), he confirmed that the team at The Coalition are not working a Star Wars game, stating: "Just to clarify regarding the Star Wars thing. We are not working on any such title. We have nothing else to announce at this time."
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/14/how-star-wars-games-can-flourish-now-that-ea-lost-exclusivity"]
The original rumour popped up earlier this month, with GamesBeat's Jeff Grubb summarising, “Now, I've heard rumours that [there] could be a Star Wars thing from out of the Coalition. But I haven't been able to confirm that, and these are rumors are kicked around in a few different places [...] Basically I'm not putting any money on that”.
Yesterday, The Coalition confirmed it will now make the leap to developing future projects on Unreal Engine 5, and that it did indeed have multiple projects planned. That led to fan speculation that the Star Wars project was among them – but the studio stepped in to deny that early on.
QuakeCon will return this year, though it won't necessarily be back in Texas. The official QuakeCon account confirmed today that 2021's event will once again be a digital-only event.
"We can't wait to get back to Dallas with our QuakeCon family," the statement reads. "But for the continued safety of our staff, the volunteers, and the community, this year's QuakeCon will once again be a digital-only event."
We canât wait to get back to Dallas with our QuakeCon family, but for the continued safety of our staff, the volunteers, and the community, this yearâs QuakeCon will once again be a digital-only event. Weâll have all the Peace, Love, and Rockets â remotely â August 19-21. pic.twitter.com/8EaM7EY5Sv
QuakeCon 2021 will run Aug. 19 through 21, and there will be more details on streaming, charity, giveaways, and more in June.
Last year, QuakeCon was one of many events that went digital in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, many seem to still be following suit and keeping their events online, from the FPS festivities of QuakeCon to E3 2021.
It's big news in laptop land today, as the launch of Intel's 11th Gen Tiger Lake H-Series CPUs for laptops and Nvidia's RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti laptop GPUs has prompted a whole new swathe of gaming laptop announcements. I got to see two of them early in an online demo presentation: the 16in mega screen of the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 (pictured above), and its large desktop replacement sibling, the Asus ROG Zephryus S17 (pictured above, right). Both look like very fine gaming laptops indeed, but it's the super narrow bezels on all four sides of the Zephyrus M16's display that have really caught my eye here. It looks absolutely gorgeous, and I don't think I've seen a more impressive-looking display in all my years of tech journaling.
Amazon kicked off its Gaming Week promotion with some great offers on HDDs, SSDs, laptops and PC accessories yesterday. To keep the momentum moving, a decent selection of the latest titles including Dirt 5, Watch Dogs Legion, Immortals Fenyx Rising and the not-so-decent Balan Wonderworld have now been added to the sale.
If we put the obvious borrowings from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to one side, Immortals Fenyx Rising is a genuinely enjoyable experience, even if it does suffer from the same repetitive bite of Ubisoft games. Donlan called it a “skilful, lovingly made product,” in his review, and, in our opinion, it's well worth checking out.
If you were fast enough to grab it on the PS5 earlier when it was listed at £22.97, congratulations! But that price has since been updated by Amazon (boo!). It's now available for £25.99 on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5 and Xbox consoles from the links below.
Magic: Arena is still rolling along with a heavy focus on standard, but over the past few years, Wizards of the Coast has added several classic modes to help extend the life of the game.
"But what happens to my old cards" is always a question people ask in digital games (where resell value is zilch), and with the Historic format, Arena had an answer. Allowing folks to use their old stuff has been a boon for the game, especially as Wizards has steadily added cards in via their "Historic Anthology" system.
With the fifth set coming to the game, we were given five exclusive cards to show off. Hailing from sets including, but not limited (ha) to Dragons of Tarkir, Innistrad, Scourge, and New Phyrexia, this pack adds a new wrinkle into historic play, all with very low cost curves.
I'll just take a second to say how much I appreciate cards like Dromoka's Command, which offer up multiple choices and decision points, especially at instant speed. Four, no less! And I'm a huge sucker for permanent global enchantments like Intangible Virtue, plus the potential for Stifle can get really nuanced in some Historic play. And Phyrexian mana (found on Vault Skirge) is....interesting!
Our guides team is changing. Ollie Toms is stepping up to become guides editor, after two years of writing some of the best game guides in the industry. He's filling the role left vacant by Jake Green, who hopped onto RPS after USG's closure last year and has now departed for pastures new. And James Law, who similarly joined RPS last year, is likewise leaving for some new adventures.
That means we're now hiring for two new guides writers. Come, congratulate Ollie, sing farewell to James, and find out where you can apply to work for RPS.
A couple of weeks ago, the 1TB model of the excellent Crucial MX500 SSD hit a new all-time low price of £67 in the UK. Alas, the deal lasted all of twenty seconds before it shot back up to its usual price of around £84. Thankfully, this cut-price SSD deal has now resurfaced thanks to Amazon UK's big gaming week sale, giving you another chance to pick up this nippy SATA drive for the same low price of £67.
Anyone fancying a spot of sun, sea, surf, and... sinisterness is in luck, as today will see publisher Raw Fury launch the PlayStation port of its Lovecraft-inspired graphic adventure Call of the Sea, following on from its previous release on Xbox, PC, and Game Pass platforms.
Well boys and girls, the Switch has finally made it: Calculator is coming to the eShop on May 12.
Typically these kinds of throwaway apps can be a shell game for emulators, or some other hidden software that slips by the eShop certification process. Or, Sabec, a company with a reputation for Switch shovelware, is selling a regular calculator for 10 bucks. I just love that Calculator is rated "E for everyone."
Sabec seems to have cribbed from the iOS calculator style, basically using the same coloration and font. The Switch is definitely no stranger to shovelware, as Nintendo seems to approve basically anything in their bid to put 30-40 games on the eShop each week.
Fortnite looks ready to launch its sandbox survival mode, Daybreak, according to files added in today's new 16.40 patch.
We've seen glimpses of Daybreak before, in leaked files from previous patches and also, intriguingly, via internal documentation released as part of the ongoing Apple v Epic trial, dated from last year. This suggested it has been in the works for quite some time, and was set to arrive a lot sooner.
"You wake up alone and unarmed along the coast of an island, with no memory of how you arrived," states a leaked description for the mode. "Quickly search for weapons and ammunition before night falls and creatures begin to roam the hillsides, hunting for prey. Keep an eye out for other stranded people they may prove to be invaluable allies in your fight to stay alive on the increasingly hostile island.
Dotemu has made a name for itself as of late for being a pretty reliable developer/publisher of sequels to, and remakes of, classic games from the '90s. Last year's Streets of Rage 4 is still one of the best games I've played this generation, and I can't wait to see how Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge turns out. But before that hits, the company is giving players a one-two punch of some classic run'n'gun games from the 16-bit era of consoles.
On June 29, Dotemu and LucasFilm Games are bringing Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Ghoul Patrol to Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC as a combo pack. The last time either of these titles saw the light of day was back on the Nintendo Wii when they released on Virtual Console. This time around, the games will ship with some new features, including a quick save option, gallery of previously unreleased artwork, video interview with the original developers, and achievements.
If you've never tried these games and are looking for more local co-op titles, I highly suggest checking them out. While Ghoul Patrol may not have aged all that well, Zombies Ate My Neighbors is an eternal joy. You can pick up both games digitally for $14.99, but if you'd rather have a hard copy, Limited Run Games is handling the physical release and will announce details on when it'll open for preorders at a later date.
Intel have finally unveiled their full line-up of 11th Gen Tiger Lake H-series laptop CPUs today, and with it a fresh wave of over 80 new gaming laptops to be released over the coming weeks. These high-performance laptop CPUs will succeed Intel's ubiquitous 10th Gen Comet Lake chips such as the Core i7-10750H and Core i9-10980HK, bringing with them up to 19% gen-on-gen multithreaded performance improvements, PCIe 4.0 support and the latest wireless connectivity standards. Here's everything you need to know.
