Valorant Episode 5, Act 1, kicks off next week, introducing a brand new map called Pearl, as well as the usual new battle pass and premium skin bundle. But there’s more than just new content coming, as Riot Games has now unveiled Patch 5.0 which introduces a host of interesting changes to the game. Most notably, there’s a brand new rank being added to Competetive called ‘Ascendant’ that sits between Diamond 3 and Immortal 1.

Today’s Patch 5.0 notes explain:

“We believe our lower ranks have a few too many of you, especially Bronze and Silver. When we were looking at rank distribution, we realized that if we were to move some of you up and out of those lower ranks, it would overpopulate Platinum and Diamond. So by adding a new rank we can better distribute you across ranks, keep the prestige of high ranks, while helping better define the skill level of each rank.“

The notes go on to highlight that those who finished last season below Ascendant (Iron 1-Diamond 3) are likely to experience a bump up in rank, while those above will find it harder to work their way back toward the rank they finished this Act. That said, it’s less severe of a reset this time around as it was for Episode 4. The maximum rank you will be able to achieve after placements is Ascendant 1.

Beyond the new rank, there isn’t really much to Patch 5.0, except for the fact that Split is being temporarily disabled for both Unrated and Competitive due to a host of bugs. You can read more about why in Riot’s dedicated map pool article.

Today Blizzard Entertainment broadcasted the Overwatch 2 Reveal Event revealing a lot of new content and a new trailer for the game.

The event follows the reveal of the upcoming PvP beta that will happen at the end of the month (signups are already available) and a new character named Junker Queen, alongside the fact that the game will be free-to-play.

We learn that the developers plan to release a steady stream of content every nine weeks after the launch on October 4 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

The second content drop will come on December 6, and more will come every nine weeks in 2023. Next year will also see the launch of the brand-new PvE experience.

Ever since Valorant first launched, fans of the game have become enamored by its fascinating universe and the lore that binds it all together. Unfortunately, though, it took some time for Riot Games to really start fleshing out this aspect of the game with various trailers and lore pieces themed on Valorant’s colorful cast of Agents. That changed throughout 2021 as the publisher launched brilliant cinematic trailers like Duality and Warmup. And now we’re set to get a brand new one to kick off Episode 5, Act 1, next week.

Confirmed today during Riot Games’ developer livestream, which introduces players to the game’s new map, Pearl, as well as a host of other new content coming in Episode 5, players can look forward to a cinematic trailer. It’s scheduled to go live on Monday, June 20.

With Overwatch 2’s closed PvP beta launching this week, we’re starting to see quite a bit of buzz surrounding this game yet again. Because of that, some players might be wondering if you have to buy Overwatch 2 if you’ve already purchased the first Overwatch.

While the game’s pricing details haven’t been finalized just yet, we’ll try to answer that question as best as we can.

Do You Have to Buy Overwatch 2 If You Have Overwatch?

Again, Blizzard hasn’t revealed the full pricing details for the game, but they have announced that Overwatch 2 will be going free-to-play when it launches in Oct. 2022 which means that you do not need to buy the game. This means that whether you have the original game or not, you will not have to pay to access the new PvP content.

During the Overwatch 2: Reveal Event on June 16, 2022, the developers also stated that the game was designed to be a social experience. As such, they didn’t want to limit the people that could play the next one by tying it to the original.

This is great news for players who did not play the first game and are looking to check out this one, as the barrier of entry has been lowered significantly.

Riot Games has today finally revealed the major content coming next week in Episode 5, Act 1, and it is indeed the new map that was expected. Called Pearl, the map is set in an alternate dimension called Omega Earth where climate change has flooded Portugal and its cities are now underwater protected by a geo-dome. The map was unveiled today with a spectacular trailer showcasing its design.

Unlike many of Valorant’s maps, Pearl doesn’t really feature any particular gimmick mechanics, such as teleporters, ziplines, or doors. Level designer Joe Lansford explained in a press release that the development team “wanted to make a map that was a little more straightforward” after Icebox, Breeze, and Fracture. As a result, Pearl is “deceptively simple, strategically speaking.“

Art lead Brian Yam went on to highlight that “the inspiration for Pearl started from an older underwater theme pitch concept, which was combined with a newer pitch that revolved around a major city flooded from climate change.”

As for the codename Pitt, which Twinfinite noted in our previous article wrapping up what we knew about Pearl’s release ahead of today’s reveal, Joe Lansford explains:

Every time you open an Apex Pack, you have a chance of getting Heirloom Shards. Though, this chance is less than 1%. However, if you get lucky you’ll receive 150 Heirloom Shards, enough to purchase one single Heirloom from the Mythics menu. You can find this menu on the third section of the shop tab.

You are also guaranteed to get Heirloom Shards by or on your 500th opened Apex Pack, but there’s currently no way to know in-game how many packs have been opened. This method most likely won’t get you Valkyrie’s Suzaku Heirloom until long after the collection event is over, but you can get it.

Before we go on to answer this question, some context seems necessary. Currently, Neon White is only available on two platforms, namely Nintendo Switch and PC. As of writing this, Neon White is not available on Game Pass, meaning eager fans will have to buy the game for their supported platform. Today Developer SimulaM released a new video of its upcoming Jesus simulator I am Jesus Christ.

In the video, we get to see basically two miracles combined. The first is walking on water, while the second is calming the storm, albeit the boat carrying the disciples didn’t really seem in all that much danger.

According to recent reveals, SimulaM is aiming to release the game for PC via Steam in December 2022 at least in early access, just in time for Christmas. The free Prologue version should come earlier than that, “maybe” in September or October.

If you’re unfamiliar with the game, it’s basically an adventure title in which you play Jesus through his whole life, meeting characters that will prove familiar to many, on top of performing all the famous miracles.

While the proposition may seem a bit “out there” to some, SimulaM has been working diligently on I am Jesus Christ for years, showing quite a lot of content over time and launching multiple beta tests. They even switched from Unity to Unreal Engine 5 a few months ago.

Valorant Episode 5 is about to launch its first Act, and naturally, there’s a new battle pass for players to purchase and play their way through. But are they any good? Valorant’s next season of content has arrived with the launch of Episode 5, Act 1, and while the talk of the town is undoubtedly the game’s new map, Pearl, there’s also a new weapon skin bundle called ‘Prelude to Chaos’ that is likely to start turning heads. That’s because it might just be in contention for one of Valorant’s coolest ever, designed around a dark-sci-fi theme reminiscent of edgy cyberpunk.

Valorant’s principal artist at Riot Game, Chris Stone, explains his “first shooters were Quake III, Half-Life, and UT99” and that he has always “had nostalgia for the industrial, heavy shapes mixed with potent and often unstable energy sources.” Apparently, the recent resurgence of classic arena shooters felt like a perfect time to bring the same design to Valorant.

Associate art director Sean Marino said that when designing the bundle, the team asked themselves “what would edgelords who love sci-fi want in a skin? What would it feel like to kill a demon?” They wanted to create something similar to the popular Reaver bundle but in a dark sci-fi style. Today we have gotten news of the upcoming Awakening collection event in Apex Legends, the first of season 13. The Awakening collection event will start this upcoming Tuesday, June 21.

There will be the usual 24 items to collect in the event through related Apex Packs. Collecting all 24 items will award players with Valkyrie’s new Heirloom, a very ornate spear named Suzaku.

Among other changes is that the LTM (limited time mode) Control will be returning for the first time this season with a map using a location from World’s Edge. Olympus will also getting a partial makeover as Lifeline finally gets her own town takeover. These are usually full changes to a named location that are themed for a specific character. This new location will be called Lifeline’s Clinic, with a “med-bay” platform inside that provides easy heals for a squad.

Today Capcom released a new video related to the upcoming fighting game Street Fighter 6.

This time around we don’t see any gameplay, but we can enjoy the reveal of the music theme dedicated to classic hero Ryu, titled “Viator.”

This is the third music reveal made for the game, as a few days ago Capcom published the official music video for the main theme, titled Not on the Sidelines, followed by the themes for Chun-Li and new character Luke.

Ryu, alongside Ken, is basically Street Fighter’s poster boy, having been one of the heroes of the franchise since the very first (and relatively obscure) game.

That being said, his design has certainly evolved rather radically since his humble beginnings. He has definitely put on a lot of muscle and his main costume has received its most radical change with Street Fighter 6, moving on to the classic white karate gi.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see what role he’ll play in the story this time around, considering that radical switches in looks often tend to reflect in the plot of this kind of game.

Today developer TiGames and publisher Astrolabe Games announced a western release date for the deceptively fluffy action-Metroidvania F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch.

The game will come to Nintendo Switch in North America and Europe on July 12, 2022, and it’ll be priced at $29.99 or €29.99 depending on where you live.

Pre-orders on the Nintendo eShop are being made available today with a 10% discount. The game will also be available in physical form.

The game is currently already available for PS5, PS4, and PC and the title may ring a bell since it was part of the games developed by Chinese developers under the umbrella of PlayStation’s China Hero Project.

That being said, the project evidently doesn’t always involve permanent exclusivity as F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch isn’t the first to land on the Nintendo Switch. Another example is Hardcore Mecha by Rocket Punch.

F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch is a great-looking Metroidvania game mixing dieselpunk visuals and fluffy anthropomorphic characters like the protagonist Rayton, a rabbit with a giant mechanical fist.

The story is about his quest to release a friend who has been arrested after Torch City has been invaded by the Machine Legion, ending up involved in a bigger scheme between the mafia, the rebellion, and the legion.

Today NIS America announced the western release of Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society.

The game, which was originally released in Japan in 2020 with the title Labyrinth of Galleria: Coven of Dusk for PS4 and PS Vita, is getting a brand new platform slate for North America and Europe, PS5, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a release date yet, but we know that it’ll launch in early 2023.

It’s a follow-up to Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk, which also took about three years to be localized.

As the title may reveal, it’s a dungeon-crawling JRPG in which the protagonist recruits animated puppet warriors belonging to a wide variety of classes and has to explore the mysterious Labyrinth of Galleria to retrieve magical artifacts known as Curios.

The art is by Takehito Harada of Disgaea fame, as you’ll probably notice in the trailer below.

A Limited Edition is already available for pre-order for consoles (PS5, PS4, and Switch), while the PC version is exclusively digital as usual.
