Cyberpunk 2077 Updates Its Feminine Protagonist's Look

4 years 2 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red is celebrating International Women’s Day by showing off an updated depiction of the feminine version of the protagonist, V. The new art is also Cyberpunk 2077’s reversible box art.

 cyberpunk 2077 update

CD Projekt Red shared the new look from the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account. V still looks like the hardened citizen of Night City we’ve seen in other trailers and screenshots, with a few key differences. This feminine version of V now has much brighter red hair, pierced ears, and some minor changes to her face. It appears some of the smokey eyeshadow is gone, and the lines in her face (we assume an indicator of some past bodily modification or repair) swoop a little lower on her cheeks now.

Here's an older look, for reference.

cyberpunk 2077 old

The official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account confirmed in multiple tweets that this new image (the first on this page) will be the reverse box art cover, so you can decide whether you have a masculine or feminine V gracing your game.

Fortnite to Fix Controversial Legacy Controls

4 years 2 months ago
Fortnite Legacy Controls have been a hot-button topic among the competitive battle royale community since the launch of Chapter 2 last year, as some say it offers a distinct advantage to players using a controller over those using a keyboard and mouse. Epic has decided to step in and starting next week, Legacy Controls, which offer aim assist to players using a controller, will be removed from the game completely. Epic announced on Twitter and the in-game news feed that it will officially remove its aim assisting Legacy Controls on March 13. Players who are still using Legacy Controls at the cutoff date will have all of their sensitivities reset to the new default settings.

KeyWe Preview: Like Overcooked, but with Kiwi Birds Working at a Post Office

4 years 2 months ago
When I was 19 years old, I took a volunteer trip to New Zealand that changed my life forever. It instantly became my favorite place in the world for its pure beauty and wonder that was around each and every corner. So, when I was at PAX East and saw KeyWe, a game starring New Zealand's famous flightless Kiwi birds, I had to check it out. KeyWe immediately reminded me of Overcooked, but instead of frantically cooking, players take on the role of Kiwi birds Jeff and Debra as they spend their day working at a post office in the fantastical Bungalow Basin. For those afraid that KeyWe will cause friendships and marriages to crumble like Overcooked is known to do, the developers at Stonewheat and Sons assured me that they are taking that into account: "We love Overcooked. With KeyWe, we’re aiming to encourage a communicative, team-building dynamic between two coworkers: fast-paced, but perhaps less stressful, and a little cozier. We want the game to feel urgent and even chaotic at times, but there’s less danger of the post office literally catching on fire. One of our goals is that players can play through the whole game more casually if they wish to, with a relatively low-to-medium score required to progress to the next level. Players that want to really race the clock for expert-level scores can earn fancy rewards and achievements for doing so." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/06/keywe-announcement-trailer"] Oh, and they aren't lying when they mention fancy rewards. In the demo build, you were able to customize Jeff and Debra with different hats and even change their colors. I chose to play as a panda/penguin-looking Kiwi that wore a classy top hat. I then excitedly took my fancy Kiwi birds into the demo’s two stages - one that tasked us with typing out messages on a typewriter with keys scattered all over the level, and another that had us labeling letters to mail out to the other inhabitants of Bungalow Basin.

SXSW Canceled Due to Coronavirus Concerns

The city of Austin, Texas has canceled SXSW (south by southwest) the annual music and arts festival that in recent years has featured more video game and entertainment content. The organizers of SXSW announced the news in a blog saying that this is the first time in 34 years of the event that it has been canceled. Check out a full list of events impacted, postponed, or canceled due to coronavirus concerns. Read SXSW's full statement below:

One-Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows Review

4 years 2 months ago

The premise of One-Punch Man shouldn’t work. If the main protagonist has infinite power and can defeat any enemy in one punch, how can that create a compelling story with stakes and danger? Where is the drama? And how can that possibly translate to a video game? Power fantasies are fun to control, but doesn’t absolute power get boring? The answer in the source material is to turn the whole story into a comedy that plays with the cliches established by decades of action anime, and it works well. The answer in One-Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows is to let you control Saitama, the titular One-Punch Man, only sparingly, and it does not work as well. But there are still some fun ideas peppered throughout.

Nintendo PlayStation Console Sold for $360,000

4 years 2 months ago
The Nintendo PlayStation prototype console was sold today in an auction for $360,000, making it one of the most expensive video game lots to be sold at an auction. The Nintendo PlayStation is a prototype that was developed as part of a potential partnership between Nintendo and Sony. The Super NES CD-ROM System would have been able to play both SNES cartridges and CD Games, but never entered mass production after Nintendo abruptly quit the partnership. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/10/07/the-most-expensive-collectibles-at-new-york-comic-con"] Terry Diebold purchased the Nintendo PlayStation in 2009 from a bankruptcy auction and after years of touring the system, decided to put the prototype up for auction in February 2020 at Heritage Auctions. Over the course of a month, the Nintendo PlayStation attracted the attention of serious collectors including Oculus founder Palmer Luckey, who tweeted about his desire to own the system for historical preservation. IGN spoke briefly with Heritage Auctions, the auction house that sold the Nintendo PlayStation, and while they’re still crunching the numbers they said they believe the system and the rest of the gaming collections that were sold would be “one of the most valuable” video game lots auctioned off. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/07/06/could-this-be-the-snes-playstation-prototype-ign-news"] Along with the Nintendo PlayStation, the auction sold rare video games like early copies of Super Mario Bros.

So, Someone's Made an Unlicensed Quidditch Rocket League Hybrid Game

4 years 2 months ago
Broomstick League was released on Steam yesterday, on March 5, and it's quite reminiscent of a famous wizarding sport. One part clearly inspired by Harry Potter's marquee sport, Quidditch, and another part inspired by Psyonix's Rocket League, Broomstick League is already reviewing positively among the Steam community with a total of 35 reviews. Check out the launch trailer below to get a look at what you'll be doing in Broomstick League. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/06/broomstick-league-launch-trailer"] As you can see in the trailers, two teams, one Red and the other Blue, of three will be facing off against fellow wizards while flying through an arena on broomsticks. You can already see where the Quidditch comparison comes into play. The game takes it one step further by giving each wizard a wand they'll use to capture a glowing purple ball flying around the arena with a mind of its own. The wand can be used to pull the ball in, hold the ball, and throw the ball into the opposing team's goal.

Amnesia: Rebirth Could Have a Hard Mode for Extra Difficulty

4 years 2 months ago
Today, Frictional Games announced their next horror project and it’s a return to the series that made them famous. Amnesia: Rebirth will be released on PC and PS4 later this year, 10 years after the release of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Amnesia: Rebirth follows a new character Tasi Trianon as they try to survive a deadly creature stalking her in the Algerian desert. This creature apparently feeds of Trianon’s terror, and players must be careful not to breathe lest they alert the hunter. You can watch the full announcement trailer below. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/06/amnesia-rebirth-announcement-trailer"] The trailer is light on details but it’s immediately clear that Trianon finds herself in hostile territory. There are what appears to be caverns outfitted with traps, and you can briefly see the silhouette of a creature in a sandstorm. "I personally always thought that Amnesia: The Dark Descent lacked a good narrative on a player journey level," Frictional Games co-founder Thomas Grip tells IGN. "Now with SOMA under our belt, and a ton of experience in just that, it felt like the right time to tackle it. To have this really scary game, with all what you expect from an Amnesia sequel, but to also add an emotional journey on top. Achieve this has been one of the core goals during development." Rebirth will have strong ties to the original game, and even the setting of the Algerian desert was referenced in The Dark Descent. Grip says that Rebirth is the "most location diverse game" Frictional has done so far. Emotion and sophisticated storytelling is the name of the game for Rebirth, but the team will still keep the scares.

Konami's Mini Consoles Become the First to Be Delayed Due to Coronavirus

4 years 2 months ago
Konami announced that the release of the TurboGrafx-16 mini has been delayed due to COVID-19, also known as Coronavirus. The TurboGrafx-16 mini, known as the PC Engine Core Grafx mini in Europe and the PC Engine mini in Japan, was scheduled to launch on March 19, but Konami said that production issues caused by the COVID-19 outbreak will lead to a delay. "Regarding the PC Engine Core Grafx mini console and its peripheral accessories, the manufacturing and shipping facilities in China have encountered an unavoidable suspension due to the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak," Konami said in an official statement. "As a result, the delivery of all PC Engine Core Grafx mini products, which was originally scheduled for March 19th, 2020, will be delayed until further notice." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=turbografx-16-mini-coming-from-konami&captions=true"] Konami said it is trying to deliver the new mini console as soon as possible, and the company will provide further details when a new launch window is confirmed. Shortly before Konami released that statement, the company said that customers who made preorders by March 5, 2020, would still receive their consoles on March 19. The most recent statement makes it clear that all orders have now been delayed. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/07/the-outer-worlds-switch-version-delayed-due-to-coronavirus"] This is the first new console release delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, which has been impacting the video game industry in a number of ways.

Resident Evil 3 Remake: Safe Rooms Still Safe From Nemesis

4 years 2 months ago
Update: Capcom confirmed that Nemesis will not be able to enter designated safe rooms, according to GamesRadar. The story that Nemesis would be able to breach safe rooms, which previously were impenetrable to monsters in the game, came from a preview that reported Nemesis attacking Jill in a room with a save spot. Capcom says that there will be certain save points that aren't considered to be safe rooms. The music will a big indicator for which are which. So while there is a chance Nemesis can attack you in an area you can save in, safe rooms will still be a nice respite you can relax in without fear. Original story follows: [poilib element="accentDivider"] Nemesis is able to break into safe rooms in the Resident Evil 3 remake, meaning you’ll never feel at ease again. The latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine revealed the terrifying new detail after a hands-on session involved the sprinting, tentacle-fisted menace breaking into a room where the player had been attempting to enjoy a moment of respite. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/14/resident-evil-3-nemesis-trailer"] Historically, safe rooms in Resident Evil games have been calm areas of guaranteed safety. Even when enemies have been chasing you, ducking into a safe room would cause them to walk away. This was especially useful in the remake of Resident Evil 2 when the relentless Mr. X would pursue you through the Racoon City police building. Nemesis, who is effectively Mr. X on steroids with far more terrifying armaments, will be able to barge into safe rooms, meaning you never know if you’re truly out of danger.

Destiny 2: Obscure, Two Year-Old Puzzle Just Solved

4 years 2 months ago
A Destiny 2 player has solved one of the game’s puzzles two years after the mystery was first added. User Javano posted the solution to Twitter, which they discovered with the help of another player, Bachmanetti. The puzzle in question is part of the Rasputin ARG that was added as part of the Warmind expansion. The puzzle features six icons that, when deciphered, provides three cipher keys that help decode a message which reveals a real-world location. That location has (or rather, had) a stash of Destiny goodies, which have long since been looted because the ARG was solved ages ago. Well, sort of. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/05/13/destiny-2-warmind-review"] Two of the cyphers were discovered, but the final one - the world ‘MECHANIZED’ - was worked out through dogged determination and trial-and-error by the Destiny community. And so while the ARG was solved, one part of the puzzle was never truly answered. Until Bachmanetti figured it out, that is. Javano posted a transcript of his IM messages with Bachmanetti on Twitter, showing them backtrack from the answer in hope of discovering the true solution. The only clue they had was the icon - a diamond - and the suggestion that it was related to a weapon. They had a hunch that it was the Sleeper Stimulant, presumably because it’s a Rasputin pattern exotic introduced in Warmind.

The Last of Us HBO TV Series Writer Promises Ellie Will Be Gay

4 years 2 months ago

Craig Mazin, co-writer of the TV adaptation of The Last of Us, has promised that Ellie will still be gay in the HBO series.

After the TV series was announced yesterday, Mazin replied to some people who were asking him questions about it on Twitter, one of who brought up the topic of maintaining the characters' sexualities.

When another person on Twitter replied Mazin's tweet, saying "Bag it and tag it this tweet is now evidence," he replied to them saying, "Correct. It is a receipt."

It was first confirmed that Ellie is gay in The Last of Us DLC, Left Behind, in which she kisses her friend Riley in a flashback. Ellie's sexuality will be explored further and be much more present in The Last of Us Part 2.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/06/13/the-last-of-us-part-2-actresses-break-down-that-kiss-e3-2018"]

"Ellie is gay," co-writer Halley Gross said back in 2018. "Ellie was born gay. This is just who she is. And to explore who she is as a teenager and as an adult, it wouldn’t be honoring her character to hide some facet of herself. We want to engage with her as a full character."

The Wonderful 101: Remastered Kickstarter Passes $2 Million, Adds More Stretch Goals

4 years 2 months ago

The Wonderful 101: Remastered has surpassed $2 million in funding on Kickstarter, unlocking a new mission and extra stretch goals.

Unlocked by reaching this new funding goal is Luka's Second Mission, of which we only have a vague description to guess at what it might be: "Our young hero is back and ready for more adventure."

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/26/the-wonderful-101-remastered-release-date-clip"]

Some idea might be gleaned by looking at Luka's First Mission, which was unlocked when Kickstarter funding reached $1.5 million, and is said to be a "brand new 2D side scrolling adventure starring a young hero."

Luka appears in the original game as a young, aspiring boy who encounters the Wonderful Ones several times throughout the story. He is eventually inducted into the team under the alias Wonder Googles on account of his goggles that fire laser beams.

Developer PlatinumGames has now revealed two more stretch goals as the Kickstarter enters its final hours. The first, unlocked at $2.25 million, is orchestral recordings for the songs "The Won-Stoppable Wonderful 101" and "Tables Turn."

The second new goal, unlocked at $2.5 million, is new languages added to the game. No specific languages are mentioned by Platinum asks for fans to let the studio know which languages they most want the game to support if this stretch goal is reached.

Bleeding Edge's Next Fighter Is a Dolphin in a Mech Suit

4 years 2 months ago
Bleeding Edge's official release is just around the corner, but before that developer Ninja Theory decided to introduced a neat new character for us to look forward to at a preview event in San Francisco. Mekko is a dolphin from Japan who gets around in a mech suit equipped with a tank and uses experimental technology to communicate with humans. You’ll have to wait until sometime shortly after the March 24 launch to play this ranged tank, but until then, we have a rundown of his kit and tips for you to keep in mind for when he’s available. Mekko is one of the few “advanced” characters. He’s equipped with an automatic sonar gun that has good but limited range and even more limited mobility. Evasion is important in Bleeding Edge, and Mekko's generally lacking mobility is what can make him a challenge to play. Evade is swapped out on Mekko for an ability called Bubble Block. This is a bubble shield that absorbs damage and, as damage is taken, fills two Power Orbs. A filled Power Orb can be consumed to give a bonus to one of Mekko’s specials. The bubble does have an automatically recharging duration meter that limits the bubble from being kept up indefinitely. mekkkoooooSpeaking of which, here are Mekko’s specials as they were shown in the preview:
  • Lifeline - Connect a lifeline to an ally. Mekko takes 40% of their incoming damage. Press the mapped button again to wind the ally in. With Power Orb: Grant the target a shield.
  • Safety Zone - Mark out a Safety Zone that grants Mekko and his allies armor and lifesteal. With Power Orb: Reduces healing received for enemies inside the area.
  • Surge - Surge forwards, knocking enemies in your path.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX Review

4 years 2 months ago
Playing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is, in many ways, exactly like saying its full name aloud: It starts off strong with the Pokémon you know and love, then quickly devolves into something very strange that goes on for far too long. Granted, there are plenty of reasons to adore developer Spike Chunsoft’s remake of the Gameboy Advance’s Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team from 2005, like its memorable characters and unique premise for example. But the guts of this roguelike dungeon crawler are sometimes hard to bear. With monotonous dungeon crawling, predictable combat encounters, and a grind that can put you to sleep faster than a blast to the face from Butterfree’s sleep powder, it could’ve used more modern retouches to punch things up a little. Rather than serving as a nostalgic remake that heightens your love for your favorite pocket monsters, Rescue Team DX tests the limits of your commitment to the series with an outdated, tiresome slog. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-pokemon-review-ever&captions=true"] Rescue Team DX is a routine roguelike where you take your favorite Pokémon into procedurally generated dungeons filled with loot, traps, violent wild Pokémon, and lost souls in need of rescue. You also recruit new Pokémon to your cause by defeating them in battle or earning their respect by completing missions, which is a huge motivator to continue the grind even when it’s at its most irritating. In between dungeon delving, you’ll interact with vendors in Pokémon Square, manage and improve your Pokémon roster, and talk to Pokémon Rescue Team’s likeable cast of characters, which makes up some of the adventure’s most memorable moments.TKTK [poilib element="quoteBox" parameters="excerpt=This%20facelift%20does%20little%20to%20address%20Rescue%20Team%20DX%E2%80%99s%20biggest%20issue."]That doesn’t mean that there’s been no evolution at all – quite the opposite.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Sidequests Will Maintain Quality of Story Missions

4 years 2 months ago
Final Fantasy 7 Remake's sidequests will match the quality of the game's main story missions, according to director Tetsuya Nomura in an interview with Famitsu. Set to release next month, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is just the first part of an unknown number of Final Fantasy 7 Remake games. Rather than guiding players through the entire story of the original 1997 game, this remake will only include the Midgar section of the original game. That's only a handful or two of hours in the original, but we know Square Enix and Nomura are working to beef up this section of the game with new explorable areas, additional bosses and side quests. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/04/final-fantasy-7-remake-comparison-2015-vs-2020"] Speaking with Famitsu and translated by IGN Japan, Nomura said these side quests will be equal in quality to the main quests of the game. "The sub-quests have been made in exactly the same way as the main story quests," Nomura said. "Initially, the development team also wanted to create a large volume of content, but it was not possible to do all of it, so we are doing as much as we can while maintaining the quality." "So it's as much as you can manage while maintaining quality?" Famitsu asked Nomura. "Yes," Nomura said.

Why The Last of Us Is Perfect as an HBO Series

4 years 2 months ago
There's a lot to be excited about when different entertainment mediums collide in just the right way. It was announced today that Sony Pictures has halted development on their The Last of Us movie adaptation...because a The Last of Us HBO series is currently in the works. Vice President of Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, and Craig Mazin, the creator/writer of HBO's award-winning Chernobyl miniseries (which IGN readers voted for as the Best TV Series of 2019) -- who's also the writer of the upcoming Borderlands movie being directed by Eli Roth -- are collaborating on an adaptation of The Last of Us for HBO. As project news goes, it feels like the perfect storm. While Naughty Dog is finishing up The Last of Us Part 2 for the PlayStation 4, which is set to be released later this year, the crucial first story of haggard Joel (Troy Baker in the game) and young Ellie (Ashley Johnson in the game) is being reworked for TV, presumably as a limited series (though nothing's been confirmed either way). Here's why this writer and this network mark the ideal jumping off point for this new story to unfold.

Joel and Ellie's Relationship

Is The Last of Us the first reluctant surrogate father-style story to grace our screens, be it in a movie, TV show, or game? No, of course not.

The Last of Us TV Show Will Replace the Film Adaptation

4 years 2 months ago
The Last of Us HBO TV series will replace the proposed movie adaptation, according to a source familiar with Sony’s plans for the popular Naughty Dog video game. IGN has learned from sources at Sony Pictures that the newly announced HBO TV adaptation of The Last of Us will replace the film adaptation that Sony previously announced back in 2014. At the time, Sony announced that Neil Druckmann would write and produce the film adaptation under Sony’s Screen Gems’ movie label. Sam Raimi was also attached to produce the film. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=igns-top-25-playstation-4-games&captions=true"] By 2015, Durckmann said that a second draft of the movie script was written and that actors had read for roles in the film. But by 2016, movement on the film stalled and there were no further updates on the project. Instead, it seems Sony has decided to move forward with a television adaptation in its place. Druckmann is still attached to write and produce the series, but this time with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin.

Behind the Brand New Studio That’s Already Sold a Million Copies

4 years 2 months ago

It’s strange to think that an office as small as this houses the developers behind two of my favorite games ever made.

Despite holding the same group of people who made Celeste and Towerfall, the sparse walls and humble layout of EXOK Games’ two-room studio could fool anyone into thinking they’re just starting out. And even though working here is business-as-usual in some ways for a team that’s been making smash hits together for nearly decade, in many others they are just getting started.

When I went to visit the newly formed Extremely OK Games (EXOK for short) in Vancouver, Canada late last year, it felt like the plastic had only just been peeled off the screens. But the developers’ recent move into this space (half of them from nearly 7,000 miles away) didn’t mean they weren’t already busy. At the time, Towerfall had just launched on Switch, Celeste’s free Chapter 9 DLC had recently come out, and designer Matt Thorson told me Celeste itself finally passed a whopping one million copies sold – not to mention they were already hard at work on their next game.

EXOK is technically a new studio, but as I sat on a beanbag chair in that modest office, speaking to its team of five while they gathered their desk chairs in a semicircle around me, it became clear that founding an actual company together was almost a formality rather than some huge, life-changing decision.

First Valorant Playable Character Revealed

4 years 2 months ago
Riot has revealed the first character from its competitive FPS Valorant. Phoenix is an agent from Britain who can use fire-based abilities to get the edge on enemy players. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/05/valorant-phoenix-agent-reveal"] Valorant’s playable characters are known as Agents, and Phoenix is the first one to get a proper introduction. The short video Riot has put out shows him using a couple of abilities that involve controlling fire. The first is a fireball summoned with a click of his fingers that can be bounced around corners. While the video does not explicitly explain what each ability does, it appears to work akin to a flash bang, as the ability’s victim appears to have a stun-like visual before Phoenix scores an easy headshot on them. It appears that the ability can be used twice in a round, as it has two charges on the HUD. The HUD also shows a further three abilities with a single charge each, one of which Phoenix uses to summon a wall of fire that’s impossible to see through. This allows him to cut a lane of the map off, use a fireball to help take on two enemies, and then eliminate someone approaching from the other angle as the firewall extinguishes. The other two abilities are not used in the video, but the icons suggest one may be another form of the fireball ability (perhaps one that deals damage instead) and another ability that seems as if it could heal. With Phoenix borrowing his name from the legendary bird that rises from the ashes after death, could this be a resurrect skill? [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=riot-games-fps-valorant&captions=true"] Abilities in Valorant work differently to other hero shooters, in that they are ‘bought’ at the start of each round with currency earned from kills and objective wins, rather than a permanent part of an Agent’s kit.

The Last of Us TV Show Coming to HBO, Written by Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin

4 years 2 months ago
The Last of Us director Neil Druckmann will team up with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin on a television adaptation of The Last of Us for HBO. According to THR, Druckmann will be involved in the creation of the HBO The Last of Us series. This is a rarity for video game adaptations as the game creators aren’t usually directly involved with the adaptation process of their games. Druckmann and Mazin will write and adapt. Naughty Dog president Evan Wells will serve as executive producer alongside Carolyn Strauss. Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions will co-produce the series for the cable network. Sources told IGN the HBO series will replace the previously announced The Last of Us movie adaptation. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=igns-top-25-playstation-4-games&captions=true"] Mazin is best known for creating 2019's award-winning series Chernobyl about the nuclear disaster in Ukraine.
