More Xbox Series X Game Reveals Are Coming Soon, According To Xbox Boss

4 years 1 month ago

Xbox Series X is due holiday 2020, but up until now we haven't seen many game reveals for the console beyond Halo Infinite and Hellblade II. But in an interview for IGN's podcast Unlocked, Xbox boss Phil Spencer says that's going to change soon, and future reveals will have a much greater focus on games.

When asked if there was anything left to say about the system itself, or whether it was "all games from here on out," Spencer said that while there are still things to reveal about the system and services provided by Xbox Series X, what they've announced so far has been done to "make room for games" in their further reveals.

"We know games are what people play," Spencer says. "You don't play variable rate shading, you don't play ray tracing, you play the games that use those technologies." Showing off these technologies has paved the way for them to show off how their games will use them. "This is one of the reasons we had Hellblade when we did the unveil at the Game Awards--I thought showing up at the Game Awards without a game would be a little tone-deaf," he continued.

Former Xbox Director Weighs In On AA Batteries Debate

4 years 1 month ago

Former Xbox console marketing director Albert Penello has shared his thoughts on the hot topic of AA batteries versus internal recharegable cells for controllers. His comments came in the wake of the news that the Xbox Series X will continue to use AA batteries.

Writing on Twitter, Penello--who now works at Amazon--said the tradeoff between AA batteries and internal cells is "more complex than people think."

"It's a debate that's raged for years, and there are good points on both sides. The toughest part is that it's a binary decision--choosing one alienates the other," he said.

Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord April Patch Is Out Now

4 years 1 month ago

TaleWorlds Entertainment has released another patch for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, which is now out via Steam Early Access. This patch follows on the heels of a day one update and day two patch, the latter of which addresses a pesky bug that was affecting the Rival Gangs quest.

Like the March 31 patch, the April 1 patch for Bannerlord addresses a bunch of bugs that have been causing the game to crash. The patch doesn't focus on any one quest though--instead it addresses several problems associated with both Bannerlord's single-player campaign and multiplayer modes. The full patch notes are listed below.

"We know that many of you are experiencing issues that are preventing you from enjoying the game right now, for which we are very sorry," TaleWorld wrote in a blog post. "With the help of you, our community, we are finding and fixing these issues and pushing updates out as soon as we can. Unfortunately, as was the case with [the March 31] patch, this [April 1 patch] may result in previous save files becoming unplayable for some people. We will always try to ensure that your save game remains compatible with each update, however, sometimes this will not be possible."

Doom 1 And 2 Have Been Updated To 1.0.6 With 30 New Levels On Consoles, Mobile, And PC

4 years 1 month ago

Doom and Doom II, which were launched on PS4, Switch, and Xbox One last year (alongside Doom 3), have received another substantial update. The new update adds the No End In Sight expansion to both games, which provides another 30 levels for your Doom Marine to shoot, rip, and tear their way through.

This update is coming to the mobile and PC versions of the game, too. Doom I and II's relaunch came with invasive DRM originally, but it has since been removed, and the games have received several free expansions. No End In Sight is generally well-regarded as a challenging, deep expansion on Doom, so players who feel like they have mastered these classics will be able to truly prove themselves by beating it.

The 1.0.6 update, announced by Bethesda, adds various other fixes and changes to the game. Here's the full list of everything in the update.

Xbox Series X: Phil Spencer Talks Price And How He Feels "Really Good" After PS5 Reveal

4 years 1 month ago

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has commented broadly and non-specifically about the price of the Xbox Series X. Speaking to IGN, Spencer said he feels confident about the price point, adding that he believes Microsoft has a "winning plan" for the next-generation console as it competes with the PlayStation 5.

"I feel good about the price we're going to be able to get to," Spencer said. "I feel good about the price and the performance capabilities that we have for Series X. I feel incredibly strong about the overall package."

The Xbox Series X price isn't set yet, it seems. Spencer said he is "eyes wide open" in regards to the final price of the console, adding that Microsoft will be looking at what Sony does in terms of pricing for the PlayStation 5. No matter what, however, Spencer said Microsoft believes it has a "winning plan" for the console.

Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Comments On COVID-19's Impact For Xbox Series X And Halo Infinite Release Dates

4 years 1 month ago

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has commented extensively for the first time on the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the planned launch of Xbox Series X later this year and more. Speaking to IGN, Spencer said he wants people to know that first and foremost, the safety and security of its teams is what is most important to him during this time of crisis.

"The thing I'm going to put front and center is the safety and security of the team," Spencer said. "There is no decision that I will make, or frankly anybody at Microsoft would even ask me to make, that would compromise the safety and security of the teams for a near-term financial or product gain. The teams are the most important thing."

Pragmatically, Spencer said he has observed that the supply chains in China have "started to come back," which would enable the parts to be assembled for Xbox Series X for launch this holiday.

This Steam Game Is The Netflix Party Of Board Games, And It's Perfect For Right Now

4 years 1 month ago

As the US and other countries mobilize to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, more and more people are finding themselves stuck at home these days, effectively ending normal social interactions with friends and loved ones unless they live with you. Because of this, online games and platforms like Netflix Party have become crucial links to friends and family, and one 2015 PC game is even helping people have virtual board game nights with friends they can't meet with in person.

Tabletop Simulator has been around for years, but it feels even more needed right now. The indie game from developer Berserk Games allows you to play digital versions of board games in a player-driven physics sandbox, with classics like chess, poker, and dominoes included in the base version. You can also create your own digital board games with Tabletop Simulator, which lets you import custom assets, automate games with scripting, and more. And players have done just that, with thousands of fan-created board games and card games available in the Steam Tabletop Simulator workshop that you can play for free.

Berserk Games has also partnered with some board game publishers to create official DLC for Tabletop Simulator, and there are currently 41 games available as DLC, including some of our all-time favorites like Blood Rage, Scythe, and Wingspan.

All DIY Recipes In Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Bunny Day Event So Far

4 years 1 month ago

Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Bunny Day event revolves around collecting eggs in a variety of ways, and while you can eat them like fruit, their primary purpose is to be used in crafting. If you're able to craft all of the new items from the event, Zipper T. Bunny promises a special gift of some sort, so there's a reason to make even items you may not care for.

There are a ton of new DIY recipes you'll earn during the course of the event, and they all call for the use of eggs. But how do you get recipes, and which ones are there to collect? We've assembled some tips on where to find recipes and amassed a list of every one we've seen so far so you can cross-reference with your own crafting list and see how many you might still need to hunt down.

How To Get Bunny Day Recipes

Much like eggs, recipes are acquired in a number of ways that mostly align with regular activities. You'll want to scavenge your beaches each day, as you may find a special message-in-a-bottle with a recipe inside. Likewise, your neighbors may have some to share--if one of them excitedly approaches you, be sure to chat with them. You'll make their day and potentially get something to show for it.

An Awesome RTX 2070 Graphics Card Is Discounted Right Now

4 years 1 month ago

With all of the visually stunning games on the way this year, such as Resident Evil 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, upgrading your PC can sound rather enticing, especially now that most of us are stuck inside. Over the past couple of weeks, Newegg has had a number of great deals that help with that, and their latest is one of the best. The Gigabyte RTX 2070 8GB is currently $380 with promo code 4NFJSPC54.

The RTX 2070 is great for 1440p gaming and shines at 1080p, especially if you're looking for frame rates that exceed 60 FPS. I currently have a comparable RTX 2070 and run the vast majority of games at High to Ultra settings at 1440p with frame rates ranging from 60-144 FPS. Of course, performance will vary based on the rest of your PC's hardware. Gigabyte's RTX 2070 features three DisplayPort outputs and a fourth for HDMI, so make sure you have the appropriate cables if you're looking to hook up multiple monitors.

The most common way to encounter Landorus is in Gyms as a five-star Raid. Dark Souls And Warframe Combine In New Action-RPG Mortal Shell

4 years 1 month ago

From developers behind Metro: Exodus, Ghost of Tsushima, World of Warcraft, and more comes Mortal Shell--an action-RPG with Dark Souls influences, set for launch later this year on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

From developer Cold Symmetry, Mortal Shell includes the deliberate combat that has been popularized by From Software's Souls series, with role-playing elements that let you upgrades weapons and skills as you explore a non-linear open-world. The reveal trailer below sets its tone well, with a more horror-focused atmosphere than that of its influences.

One aspect of Mortal Shell that stands out is the shells themselves. You'll physically wear the empty bodies of fallen warriors, each of which will play with different fighting styles and abilities. You can get comfortable with a shell and upgrade it further, letting you choose your style of play and adapt accordingly with items and weapons on top of it.

Pokemon Go April 2020 Field Research Tasks

4 years 1 month ago

April is officially underway, which means Pokemon Go developer Niantic has once again refreshed the game's Field Research list. Many of April's Field Research tasks are the same as March's, although some offer new rewards, and you won't find many tasks that require you to hatch eggs (which is helpful as many part of the world are under lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

Unlike the more story-focused Special Research quests, Field Research tasks are distributed via PokeStops. You'll receive a random task when you spin the Photo Disc, and each one you complete will net you rewards, which can range from helpful items like Berries to encounters with certain Pokemon.

On top of that, the first Field Research task you complete each day will earn you a stamp. If you collect seven stamps, you'll achieve what's called a Research Breakthrough, which will net you additional rewards as well as an encounter with a special Pokemon. April's Research Breakthrough reward is the rare Alolan Exeggutor; you'll get a chance to catch the Pokemon each time you achieve a Research Breakthrough this month.

Elder Scrolls Online Patch Notes Prepare For Greymoor

4 years 1 month ago

The Elder Scrolls Online is preparing to close the book on its Skyrim story as it transitions into the Greymoor season. The new content isn't live yet, but the prologue chapter is now available alongside a patch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

The patch notes across all three platforms make some of the same changes, especially across the two console platforms. On PC the patch has fixes for some abilities and a game crash, but the notes say the developers are still investigating ability desyncs and lag. On PS4 and Xbox One, there are input delay and desync fixes, and a fix to the Coldharbour questline.

A free prologue chapter for Greymoore is now available in advance of the story's launch. Paired with a limited time free-play period, you can dip a toe in the new content. Parent company Bethesda also recently announced that it is canceling the digital showcase that it had planned to give in absence of its E3 appearance.

Apex Legends May Be Getting A Bloodhound Town Takeover

4 years 1 month ago

Respawn may be teasing the next town takeover for Apex Legends. If you head to Sniper's Ridge--an apt name for the location given it provides a nice perch over Skyhook and usually hides sniper weapons, attachments, and ammo--on World's Edge, you'll find new map changes that seem to hint that Bloodhound is getting a town takeover next.

About partway up the ridge, you'll see a corpse covered in a murder of crows--the same type that Bloodhound sees with their passive ability, Tracker, as a warning sign that enemies are close. Approach the crows and they'll fly away, revealing the corpse to be what looks like a prowler. No, not a Prowler, like Apex Legends' heavy ammo submachine gun, but a prowler, like the ferocious creature first mentioned in Titanfall and first seen in Titanfall 2.

How To Get Eggs In Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Bunny Day Event, And What To Do With Them

4 years 1 month ago

Being an Easter-inspired event, it's no surprise that eggs feature prominently into Bunny Day, Animal Crossing: New Horizons' first-ever seasonal event. It's live from now through April 12, and while the basics are all outlined for you, there are some details you might need to discover on your own. Below, we've detailed all six types of eggs and how to obtain each one and explained what you'll do with them.

The majority of the eggs require some type of tool, so you'll want to have some materials on hand. In particular, from my experience, there are a ton of balloons out, so you'll want to craft at least one slingshot on hand at all times so you don't miss out on any. (If you've unlocked Nook's Cranny, you can buy one from the cabinet in the back-left corner for 900 bells.)

Speaking with Zipper T. Bunny reveals there are six types of eggs, but he only mentions five ways of obtaining them. Here's the full list of all six and how to get them:

The 38 Best Video Game Soundtracks You Can Stream

4 years 1 month ago

Many songs from video games enter our minds and stay with us forever. Whenever someone mentions the Lost Woods in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I don't think about the puzzling labyrinth inside; I think about the melodic jingle that loops over and over again as I explore the forest. Video game soundtracks can be as powerful and sometimes even more memorable than the gameplay experience itself. There's a seemingly endless supply of wonderful video game soundtracks, and many of them are available to stream on services like Spotify, Amazon Music Unlimited, and Apple Music. If you're looking for some fun tunes to help pass the time inside, we've rounded up more than 35 of the best video game soundtracks you can stream right now.

We chose to only include original music, so no licensed soundtracks appear on this list--sorry Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, but we still love the old you. Also, only one game from a single franchise was chosen, so The Legend of Zelda doesn't appear a handful of times. Lastly, our picks are in no particular order.

For Honor April Fools' Joke Makes Everything Smaller

4 years 1 month ago

With April Fools' Day finally here, many companies are participating in pranking their fanbases. Developer Ubisoft Montreal is doing the same with For Honor on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One--and the results are tiny but come with some pretty big laughs.

All player-controlled characters on For Honor's battlefield have been shrunk to near-microscopic levels. The appearance change recalls Joe Johnston's 1989 comedy science fiction film Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, in which a dad reduces two families to a quarter of an inch in height and must get back to the lab to undo the experiment while fending off hazards, insects, and more. Check out For Honor: Mini Edition below, which is only available for April Fools' Day.

In other For Honor news, Ubisoft introduced a crossover event with The Prince from the studio's long-dormant action-adventure series Prince of Persia. The limited-time event, The Blades of Persia, is available on all platforms until April 2.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Bunny Day Event Begins, Here's What You Need To Know

4 years 1 month ago

The first seasonal event in Switch's just-released Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Bunny Day, is now live. The game's take on Easter involves acquiring eggs hidden all around your island, acquiring new recipes, and crafting new furniture and decorations. Bunny Day is available as part of a free update released just prior to launch; simply make sure your game is up-to-date and you'll be able to dive in when you open the game.

Zipper T. Bunny has appeared on the island and will be sticking around through April 12, which marks Bunny Day itself. Speaking with him will reward you with a DIY recipe and get you the basic details of what's going on during the event. You can acquire eggs in a variety of ways, including:

  • Leaf egg -- trees
  • Stone eggs -- rocks
  • Water eggs -- fishing
  • Sky eggs -- popping Bunny Day-colored balloons
  • Earth eggs -- digging up fossil-style cracks
  • Wood eggs -- hitting trees with an axe

Recipes you obtain--which include the Bunny Day fence, stool, bed, and glowy garland--are crafted using eggs you catch. Zipper teases that if you're able to acquire every recipe and craft its corresponding item, he'll have a special gift for you. More recipes will be hidden during the event, so it sounds as if you won't be able to necessarily complete your collection on the first day.

CoD: Modern Warfare Playlist Update Makes Shipment Even More Chaotic For April Fools

4 years 1 month ago

In the last update for Season 2 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, developer Infinity Ward is bringing back an intense spin on Gunfight, introducing a new variant to Cyber Attack, and having a little fun with April Fools' Day.

Gunfight will see the return of a Snipers-Only 3v3 playlist, which is pretty self-explanatory. The regular 2v2 mode will add another play to each team and cycle through snipers only, making the cramped and quick matches a real test of precision.

Cyber Attack is also getting a new spin with a Pro variant, which removes the need to revive teammates and automatically respawns them back into the game. This should give the mode a much more chaotic feel, as players can return to the action a lot faster than before.

Bethesda Cancels E3 June Showcase

4 years 1 month ago

With E3 2020 canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some publishers are still planning to give digital presentations around the time that E3 would have taken place in June. Those plans now include one less publisher, as Bethesda has bowed out of its annual presentation.

A statement from marketing VP Pete Hines, who often headlines Bethesda's E3 presentations, said the company is facing "many challenges" due to the pandemic, and as a result won't be hosting its digital showcase in June. It does note that the company will still be sharing its plans in the coming months--though it's unclear if this means a single large digital presentation will still be happening, or if the announcements will be split into individual ones.

Bethesda's E3 presentations usually pack at least a few surprises, along with details about ongoing content for games like Elder Scrolls Online. We're not sure what the company planned to show at this year's event, though it has teased long-term projects like Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6.

Airing on ESPN on April 3, the NBA 2K Players Tournament features 16 NBA players competing in head-to-head brackets for the chance to be crowned champion. Participants include Kevin Durant, Andre Drummond, DeMarcus Cousins, and Trae Young, and their seeds in the tournament were determined based on their player-ratings in the game itself.

Players select eight teams to play with during the tournament and are allowed to use each only once. That means mastering multiple squads and not only passing the ball to your in-game counterpart.

Terraria Hits A Huge Sales Milestone And Celebrates With A Sale

4 years 1 month ago

Terraria, the 2D construction game that first released in 2011, has just hit a major sales milestone. According to the game's website, Terraria has now sold 30 million copies across PC, consoles, and mobile, with the majority of those sales being on PC.

The game has sold 14 million units on PC, 7.6 on consoles, and 8.7 on mobile. The console number is lower despite the game having been made available on eight different systems since it launched--PS3, Xbox 360, Vita, PS4, Xbox One, 3DS, Wii U, and Switch. Terraria hit 20 million sales back in February 2017, and has evidently continued to sell well since then.

The game, which will receive a substantial Journey's End update soon, is currently discounted on Steam to celebrate its huge sales milestone. Until April 3, the game and its soundtrack are discounted by 50%, so you can see what has attracted 30 million prior customers.

Rockstar Games To Donate Revenue From GTA Online And Red Dead Online To COVID-19 Relief

4 years 1 month ago

The official Rockstar Games Twitter account has announced that they will be donating 5% of all revenue from purchases made in GTA Online and Red Dead Online, the online modes for Grand Theft Auto V and Read Dead Redemption 2 respectively.

The funds will be used to help local communities and businesses who have been affected by the impact of COVID-19. The donations will be contributed to these communities and businesses, as well as to organizations actively helping out those in need during this crisis. The Twitter post did not exactly who the funds will be donated to specifically, just referring to business, communities, and organizations in general.

The post mentions North America, the UK, and India specifically, so there's a chance this will be the main focus on where the donations are sent. These are however where Rockstar's main offices are located.
