Grindstone Gets A Lot Of New Content In Surprise Update

4 years 1 month ago

Grindstone, the Apple Arcade exclusive from developer Capybara Games, has received a surprise update that adds a lot of new content to the color-matching puzzler.

Since launch, Grindstone has only received small content updates, mostly to celebrate seasonal events. Today, however, you can look forward to 15 new levels, a new enemy that eats other creeps and steals their colors, and three new weapons to purchase. The update is live now and available as long as you're still subscribed to Apple Arcade.

Grindstone launched with Apple Arcade last year, and remains one of the best games on the service. There's still no way to purchase it outright in case it's the only reason you're still subscribed, but a whole new world of levels is a good reason to keep the subscription going for at least one more month.

Best Games To Play With People Not Normally Into Games

4 years 1 month ago

It can be tricky to get friends or family into video games--it's certainly become easier in recent years with the rise of mobile gaming, which has created a more accessible market for gamers of all skill levels. However, there are still people out there who haven't played a video game. If you happen to know and live with such a person and you're hoping to get them to participate in one of your favorite pastimes now that you're spending more time at home, you may be wondering where to start.

We've found that a good way to get people who aren't regular players interested in video games is to play a co-op game with them. But, of course, that begs the question: What's a good video game to play with someone who's never played one before, or who rarely plays games and may not want to commit to something that's too skill-focused? Well, in the following article, we detail some of our personal favorite games that are fun to play, whether you've been gaming all your life or just starting for the first time.

Our list includes all sorts of games, ranging from silly couch co-op experiences you can play with the whole family, like Super Mario Party and Jackbox Party, to approachable online multiplayer games that you can play with a friend if you're both stuck at home, such as Rocket League and Destiny 2. We'd love to hear from you all if you think we missed anything--leave a note in the comments section about your go-to when you want to play a game with a friend or family member who isn't normally into video games.

Audio Logs: How Persona 5 Royal's New Character Was Made

4 years 1 month ago

It doesn't feel like four years have passed since Persona 5 was originally released in 2016. Atlus' PlayStation 4-exclusive RPG developed a fervent fanbase and, thanks to their efforts, the title has remained an ever-present part of gaming culture. Persona 5 is a game that, in more than a few ways, was built to linger in the mind and stay in conversations. Its themes and subject matter are complex and its characters are nuanced. Everything from their visual design, to their personalities, and their place within the story resonated with people.

It can't be easy, then, to go back and introduce something new to the game after the fact. Changing something that such a huge number of people have fallen deeply in love with is a daunting challenge, but to have that change be a brand new character placed at the center of the story is a potentially overwhelming one. But that's exactly what Atlus has done for Persona 5 Royal, and the task of designing the new character fell upon Shigenori Soejima.

Soejima has defined the Persona series as we know it and, many of gaming's most recognizable characters come from his mind. In this episode of Audio Logs, Soejima shows us exactly how he approaches creating a character. More specifically, how he created Kasumi, the newest member of the Phantom Thieves, who makes her debut in Persona 5 Royal.

Fortnite Week 7 Deadpool Guide: Where To Find Deadpool's Pistols And Enter A Port-A-Potty

4 years 1 month ago

Fortnite Season 2's not-so-secret Deadpool skin has officially arrived. Battle Pass owners can unlock the character skin by completing all of this season's Deadpool challenges, including this week's pair of missions. Like those from previous weeks, these two tasks are fairly straightforward, but if you need help clearing them, we've put together this guide on where to find Deadpool's pistols and enter a phone booth or port-a-potty.

Where To Find Deadpool's Two Pistols

Like previous Deadpool challenges, this task doesn't require you to hop into a match; rather, you'll find the two pistols around the main HQ. The first is laying conspicuously under the table that displays this season's challenges, while the second is located by the barbells in the lower right-hand corner of Meowscles' room. Simply click on each of the pistols to collect them and you'll complete the challenge.

Where To Enter A Phone Booth Or Port-A-Potty

The second of Week 7's Deadpool challenges does require you to hop into a match, but it is likewise very simple. All you need to do is enter a phone booth or port-a-potty. There are several of each scattered around the island, and you only need to enter one of them to complete the mission.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3 Start Date Confirmed For Next Week

4 years 1 month ago

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will launch its third season next week. Activision announced the date with a teaser image on the official Call of Duty Twitter account. Season 3 will launch on April 8, 2020.

A new season means a refreshed battle pass with new rewards to earn. Midway through Season 2, Infinity Ward launched the battle royale mode Warzone, which is free for all players (even if you don't own Modern Warfare) and uses the same battle pass progression. That trend will likely continue for Season 3, though this time the free Warzone players will have the entire season to work their way through the battle pass. The teaser image shows the Warzone logo right next to the Modern Warfare one.

The teaser image shows three figures enveloped in red smoke, including Alex from the Modern Warfare campaign, who now has a prosthetic leg. Ghost, who appears in the background, joined the roster as a special battle pass unlockable in Season 2 as well, and his reveal trailer helped lay the groundwork for the Warzone mode.

Twitch Has Record-Setting Quarter Amid Coronavirus Lockdown

4 years 1 month ago

With people around the globe stuck in their homes in recent weeks, they've evidently been watching a lot of Twitch streamers. The service had its best quarter ever, breaking a record with more than 3 billion hours watched.

According to streaming tools service StreamLabs, Twitch hit new highs for both hours viewed and hours streamed, with about three times what YouTube Gaming Live managed during the same period.

Twitch saw its watch hours increase by 23 percent between February and March, with concurrent viewership rising by nearly 20 percent. While this was a period when people began self-quarantining because of coronavirus (COVID-19), it also saw the release of major games like Doom Eternal, Nioh 2, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Twitch streaming hours had actually been on the decline last year.

Top New Video Game Releases On Switch, PS4, Xbox One, And PC This Month -- April 2020

4 years 1 month ago

It's crazy to think that we're already a quarter of the way through 2020, and the new month has another batch of video games to feast on. April brings us some sizzling hot remakes: the survival horror outing Resident Evil 3, the sword-slashing tale of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and the reimagined retro RPG Trials of Mana. Movie fans can also get a taste of nostalgia with Predator: Hunting Grounds, and the Gears of War crowd gets a new strategy-heavy campaign with Gears Tactics.

Resident Evil 3 -- April 3

Available on: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Resident Evil 3 is getting the same treatment as 2019's Resident Evil 2 remake, which is appropriate since the two games overlap. RE 3 sees Jill Valentine exploring a zombie-filled Raccoon City, where she and other S.T.A.R.S. agents are being hunted down by the nasty Nemesis. That's just the single-player component--this remake also includes Resident Evil Resistance, an asymmetrical multiplayer mode. Four players control survivors, while a fifth mastermind tries to take them out with zombies, Lickers, Tyrants, and all sorts of tricks and traps.

GameStop Explains How It's Handling Pre-Orders During Coronavirus Pandemic

Coronavirus (COVID-19) has already caused game delays such as The Last of Us Part 2 and it's possible more will follow, but GameStop is still accepting pre-orders on upcoming titles. The retailer has now announced new procedures it has in place for customers picking up their games.

For areas where GameStop stores are still open, you can pick up your pre-ordered games on launch day using the Delivery@Door service, which has an employee meet you at the door and hand you your game. The only options for paying off these orders are chipped credit cards and GameStop gift cards.

At closed GameStop stores, you'll have the option to get the game shipped, and GameStop is sending out emails with instructions. If you only put a small deposit on the game, you will have the option to get a virtual gift card with that same amount so you can order the game online.

That day has finally come, as Epic has announced that Deadpool is reporting for duty. You can unlock the special skin by completing a set of special Deadpool challenges, which involve his pistols and either a phone booth or a port-a-potty.

To earn Deadpool's skin, you just have to own the battle pass and complete his series of challenges. Most of them have been rolling out progressively throughout the season, but a couple of new challenges began this week. They're fairly straightforward, and you can find the list in Deadpool's secret room by clicking on the vent from the main hub.

  • Find Deadpool's letter to Epic Games
  • Don't thank the bus driver
  • Find Deadpool's milk carton

Gears 5 Adds Batista’s Old WWE Finisher In Free DLC

Guardians of the Galaxy star and professional WWE wrestler Dave Bastista was supposed to have been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this week, but due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Hall of Fame ceremony has been delayed indefinitely. In honor of the award Batista should have received, The Coalition is adding the wrestler’s famous Batista Bomb finisher to Gears 5 in a free DLC update.

Gears 5 already has a variety of execution animations in the multiplayer mode, but nothing comes close to the savageness of the Batista Bomb. While in real life Batista used this move to knock down his opponents, the game takes it to a whole other level with the enemies exploding on impact.

Everyone who buys the Battle Pass before April 5 at 11 PM PT will find the 10 free tiers available to redeem from the "Just For You" section of the menu. Those who are above tier 90 will still get the 10 tiers, with whatever remaining number of tiers carrying forward to Season 3's Battle Pass. Resident Evil 3 Remake PSA: Here's Why You Should Fight Nemesis At These Key Moments

4 years 1 month ago

The Nemesis in Resident Evil 3 Remake is nigh unstoppable, and you'll spend a lot of the game fleeing as he stalks you relentlessly. Like Mr. X in Resident Evil 2 Remake, you can't kill him--but you can slow him down, if you're willing to fight. Running away is usually the better option, though, and it can be tempting to just bail on the Nemesis and conserve your ammo. But there are two moments in Resident Evil 3 Remake when you want to stop and hold your ground, even though you don't have to, in order to snag some big rewards.

As in the original Resident Evil 3, if you hit the Nemesis with enough firepower or explosives as he's sprinting after you through the streets of Raccoon City, you can knock him out for a few moments. Do that, and he'll drop a Supply Case. There are two important handgun upgrades you can only get by fighting the Nemesis at key moments, and if you miss your chance at them, you'll never receive those items. Without them, you can't complete one of the bonus Record objectives for Resident Evil 3 Remake's post-game; you'll also want all the firepower you can get, especially on RE3 Remake's tougher difficulties. Here's what you need to beat the Nemesis, what you'll get for doing it, and most importantly, when to take him on.

You need all the help you can get to survive the Nemesis in Resident Evil 3 Remake, especially at its harder difficulties. Raccoon City is teaming with mutated fiends who want you to join their ranks, and the only way to deal with a lot of them is with a lot of bullets (or explosives, as the case may be). The good news is, there are plenty of weapons around the city to help you survive its final hours, and upgrades to make them more effective--especially if you can find and open the several safes located throughout the game.

Resident Evil 3 Remake Puzzle Guide: How To Find All The Jewels To Unlock The Kite Bros Monument

One of the first puzzles in Resident Evil 3 Remake is also one you can easily overlook. The Kite Bros Railway Monument is found right at the exit of the Subway, and requires you to find three jewels scattered around the Racoon City Downtown. In Kojima’s last game, Death Stranding, the cast was predominantly made up of big name celebrities and cast members who weren’t usually affiliated with video games. Nintendo Switch Gets A Lot Of New Indie Releases This Week

4 years 1 month ago

It's a pretty quiet week for the Nintendo Switch, with big titles like Trials of Mana and Xenoblade Chronicles Definite Edition still weeks away. Only a few indie titles are slated for this week. But don’t let the lack of hype turn you away; each of these indie games could be a sleeping giant.

Rocket jump into the puzzle platformer Gunbrick: Reloaded, fight your way across a magical world in the RPG adventure Monster Viator, and survive as a lone xenobiologist on a mysterious alien planet in the Indiecade 2019 Jury Pix Award Winner In Other Waters.

Players who enjoy the wacky chaos of Human Fall Flat may find a similar joy in the multiplayer puzzle action game Good Job! Play as the clumsy child of a CEO and climb the corporate ladder in office-themed puzzles. Do a good enough job and earn that promotion, or just embrace the chaos and see how much damage you can do; the choice is yours.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons -- How To Farm Tarantulas

4 years 1 month ago

If you've given up on finding the illustrious tarantula island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, we have good news: You can just make your own. Instead of spending 2,000 Nook Miles per ticket on the chance of finding the rare deserted island that's overrun with these spiders, which are desirable for how much they can be sold for, any deserted island can become a tarantula island if you just know how.

When Do Tarantulas Spawn?

The key to this method is understanding how the spawn mechanics in Animal Crossing: New Horizons work. Bugs require certain conditions to spawn, including months of the year, the weather, and the environment. Tarantulas require it to be nighttime (7 PM - 4 AM specifically) and during the correct months. In the Northern Hemisphere that's November through April, while Southern Hemisphere players will need to be playing from May to October. You can always change your time and date in the Switch settings to fit these requirements, although time-skipping can have unintended consequences.

Tarantulas can be sold for a whopping 8,000 bells each (though you should put your first one in the museum of course), which means you can make some serious bells with this method. Make sure to purchase all the inventory upgrades first to get the best results, and ensure you aren't carrying more than you need to.

4 years 1 month ago

After dabbling in the horror genre with P.T., which was actually a teaser for Silent Hills, Hideo Kojima wants to create another horror game down the road. He wants this game to be so scary that you poop your pants. Peeing your pants is not enough. It must be poop.

"I would like to make another horror game someday. Something that uses a revolutionary method to create terror, that doesn't just make you pee your pants, but crap them. I already have ideas in mind," he told BAFTA as part of his induction into organization's fellowship program.

Kojima also reflected on the phenomenon that was P.T. The game succeeded and resonated so strongly because it played on different elements of the unknown, Kojima said.

"I even learned more about Joel and I’m the guy that walked into [the Last of Us audition] and said, 'I know the truth about Joel!' I knew his truth back then, but [after The Last of Us 2], I know even more of [Joel's] truth."

For the overall story of Part II, Baker said he hopes the narrative challenges players' expectations of "what the game is, what the world is, who the characters are--everything."

Fans Are Annoyed By Animal Crossing: New Horizons Easter Bunny Event

4 years 1 month ago

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, seasonal events no longer just occur on one day of the year; the now run for a few weeks in the lead up for the event. From April 1 to 12, a strange bunny-like creature, Zipper T. Bunny, has shown up on everyone’s islands. Zipper has hidden some eggs around the island as part of the Easter event, but players are finding that these eggs are less hidden and more the only thing on the island anymore.

All over the island there are new colorful eggs to find and various egg-related recipes to discover. At least that’s how the event is supposed to go. Instead, players are finding nothing but eggs. Whether it's fishing, digging up a fossil, chopping trees, or popping balloons, everything has been seemingly replaced by eggs.

Some people have opened their games to find that Zipper has replaced what would have been a full Money Tree with eggs. Understandably, players are upset at this strange rabbit ruining the delicate ecosystem of their island.

Amazon Is Going Big On Gaming, Launching A Streaming Service And Multiple New MMOs

4 years 1 month ago

Amazon could soon be a force to be reckoned with in the world of gaming, as the company is said to have invested "hundreds of millions" of dollars into trying to become a major player in the games business. The New York Times reported that figure, and also noted that Amazon's new push into gaming represents the company's "most significant investment" in original entertainment since it launched a movie and TV business with Amazon Studios.

Amazon's film and TV business has enjoyed a lot of success over the years, including the acclaimed TV show Transparent and the Oscar-winning movie Manchester by the Sea. Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel also won high acclaim, picking up multiple Golden Globe and Emmy wins.

Amazon is looking for success in gaming, too, and this begins with the launch of its first original game, the sci-fi shooter Crucible. The game, which is developed by Relentless Studios in Seattle, is due to launch in May, following delays related to COVID-19. Amazon is also working on multiple MMOs, including the 17th century New World (from Amazon's Irvine, California studio) and a Lord of the Rings MMO from the same studio in southern California.

4 years 1 month ago

Fortnite's not-so-secret Deadpool skin is scheduled to unlock tomorrow, April 3, and it appears Epic has a Deadpool-themed event planned to coincide with the skin's release.

As for the aforementioned Deadpool skin, you'll be able to unlock it if you've been keeping up with this season's Deadpool challenges.
