The Last of Us Clone Gets Pulled from Nintendo Switch eShop

9 months 1 week ago

The Last Hope: Dead Zone Survival, the third-person action zombie game that looks awfully familiar to The Last of Us, has been pulled from the Nintendo Switch eShop, as Eurogamer first spotted.

Heading to the game's official store page on Nintendo UK eShop will now result in a 404 error message. Trailers for the game have also been removed, which Eurogamer claims is due to copyright claims made by Sony.

PlayStation, Nintendo, and V.G. Games (which released The Last Hope) did not immediately respond to IGN's requests for comment.

The Last Hope was released in June on the Nintendo Switch, and it quickly caught the eyes of many who started comparing the game to Naughty Dog's 2013 masterpiece. They also criticized the game's quality, with some deeming it "the worst game" they've played, including Digital Foundry's John Linneman who did a technical breakdown of The Last Hope last month.

Dead by Daylight Developer Teases Crossover with Alien Franchise

9 months 1 week ago

Behaviour Interactive is teasing a crossover between asymmetrical horror game Dead by Daylight and the sci-fi horror film franchise Alien.

In a teaser trailer (below), the developer revealed it was teaming up with 20th Century Studios to bring the Alien franchise to Dead by Daylight. While not much was shared, Behaviour Interactive did confirm that more details would be shared on August 8.

This is not the first time Behaviour Interactive has done a crossover for Dead by Daylight and a horror film franchise, as the developer previously introduced content from Saw, Hellraiser, and Ringu.

The Alien reveal comes months after Behaviour Interactive announced Nicolas Cage is joining the game. Additionally, the studio said in May it was creating two spin-off games based on the Dead by Daylight IP including a new multiplayer game.

The franchise is also expanding to the big screen, with a movie adaptation from Blumhouse and Atomic Monster currently in the works.

Check out the full list of titles joining Xbox Game Pass and their respective platforms below:

RockFish Games’ Everspace 2 will see players take to the cockpit of their very own space fighter as they indulge in third person fast-paced combat, while exploring a hand crafted universe boasting “classic RPG elements” across a single player campaign. In IGN’s 7/10 early access review we said that Everspace 2 “feels like the start of a great single-player action-RPG, with more gameplay variety than you usually see in a space fighter game”.

Fortnite Jujutsu Kaisen Crossover Teased

9 months 1 week ago

Fortnite Jujutsu Kaisen

Epic Games announced Jujutsu Kaisen’s Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, Nobara Kugisaki, and Satoru Gojo will join Fortnite. There's no exact release date for the four of them yet. At the moment, the company only released a teaser trailer showing that the characters will show up as new cosmetic options in the game.

Here’s the teaser. It begins with original characters from the game making shadow puppets on a wall. The wall then breaks to reveal Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, and Gojo. Each of them strikes a pose. Nobara, for example, has her hammer and nails.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KFcPhIJ9eE&ab_channel=Fortnite
Given the timing of the announcement, we will likely see the Jujutsu Kaisen crossover begin later in August 2023. These reveals tend to come rather shortly ahead of their official debuts.

This isn't the first anime crossover to appear in Fortnite in 2023. January brought with it a Dragon Ball Super one. Attack on Titan characters showed up in April 2023.

Honkai: Star Rail Planar Ornaments Simulated Universe Event Returns

The Planar Fissure Event: Planar Ornaments Simulated Universe event is about to return to Honkai: Star Rail. The event first appeared back in June 2023. During it, you get twice as many pieces of equipment during runs through a world. It all begins again on August 2, 2023.

So as usual, we need to have access to Simulated Universe to take part in the Planar Fissure: Planar Ornaments event in Honkai: Star Rail. The series of Herta Space Station quests starting with “Simulated Universe: First Closed Beta” kicks off access to that. Players need to finish those and have access to World 3 to take part.

If you do meet all the requirements, then once you go into a run in a world, you’ll get twice as many Planar Ornaments equipment pieces from the Immersion Device a limited number of times each day. It’s best to do so on higher level worlds, as you can get more five-star pieces that way. It's also wise to go in first thing, in case you need to use energy to claim items from the Immersion Device.

The best moment of Citizen Sleeper: meeting the stray cat

9 months 1 week ago

Citizen Sleeper is a game with lots of brilliant individual stories in it, even the ones that end so catastrophically badly that redemption seems nigh on impossible. But when I look back on this tabletop-infused RPG and think of my favourites, there is one that stands head and shoulders above the rest. It isn't one of Citizen Sleeper's more emotional story beats (I miss ya, Lem and Mina), nor is it its most thrilling (big love to my man Feng). Rather, it's one of the game's quietest and arguably least significant plot points, but the fact it's there at all is probably what cemented Citizen Sleeper as one of my favourite games of last year. It is, of course, befriending The Stray who takes up residence in your Lowend apartment.

If you're an early access player of Baldur's Gate 3 you should delete your save, delete your mods, and then delete the game itself.

This advice comes direct from developer Larian, which said that doing all of the above would "reduce the risk of file conflicts when the final game downloads", meaning "more playing, and no troubleshooting!"

Players who do have mods installed are also advised to ensure they do not automatically re-download.

Rayman's Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope DLC gets August release date

9 months 1 week ago

Rayman's long-awaited return mightn't be quite what fans were hoping for - arriving as he is in a bit of DLC for the excellent Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope instead of his own game - but something's (hopefully) better than nothing, and Ubisoft has now confirmed its beloved limb-flinging mascot will be making his entrance on 30th August this year.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope: Rayman in the Phantom Show is described as a brand-new DLC adventure that'll be separate from the base game's storyline. Here, Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Peach stumble across the Space Opera Network, an "uncanny" TV studio run by the Phantom, one of the antagonists in Ubsoft's previous Mario + Rabbids game, Kingdom Battle.

"As the TV studio's rating are lower than ever," Ubisoft explains in its release date announcement, "he needs the help of true stars to help him get his past glory back."

Jujutsu Kaisen Is Coming to Fortnite

9 months 1 week ago

Your favorite sorcerers from Jujutsu Kaisen are dropping into Fortnite.

Epic Games released the teaser trailer for the latest anime collaboration on Fortnite's official X (formerly Twitter) account Tuesday. The teaser trailer for the Fortnite x Jujutsu Kaisen collaboration comes after leaks from dataminers unearthed images of bundle pages that showed skins of the characters (mainly Nobara, Megumi, and Gojo) and accessories inspired by the anime that would be coming to the game. The trailer corroborated the leaks, and Epic Games announced that the Jujutsu Kaisen bundles will be released into Fortnite in the Version 25.30 update.

For those who are new to the series, it follows Yuji Itadori as he enrolls in Jujutsu High School to become a Sorcerer to avoid death by exorcism after becoming cursed by a talisman finger he swallowed to protect his friends and a Sorcerer from the demon who held the same finger.

There are a lot of farming and life sims on the Switch, so much so that a game like Picontier could easily fly under the radar. It probably doesn’t help that we first heard about it back in 2016, but it’s never gotten tons of attention. Which is a shame, because it’s a novel experience with an unexpected sort of sort surrounding it, and more people should really give it a chance.

Dead by Daylight reveals official Alien collaboration in new teaser trailer

9 months 1 week ago

Just a month after shooting itself into space for the first time, asymmetrical multiplayer horror game Dead by Daylight is doing it all over again, only this time with an official license for the quintessential space scare-'em-up, Alien.

That's Alien singular, of course; Ridley Scott's seminal 1979 space horror in which Sigourney Weaver's iconic action hero Ellen Ripley, along with her crewmates aboard the spaceship Nostromo, are terrorised by an even more iconic phallus-headed extraterrestrial predator known as a Xenomorph. Someone also gets a tummy ache; it's great.

That single, deadly foe (as opposed to the umpteen creatures present in James Cameron's action-heavy 1986 follow-up, Aliens) makes Alien the perfect fit for Dead by Daylight's four-survivors-versus-one-killer set-up. As of right now, however, developer Behaviour Interactive is remaining coy about which of the movie's characters we might get to play as.

The 16 Best Game Boy Games of All Time

9 months 1 week ago

On July 31, 2023, Game Boy turns 34 in North America. Nintendo’s first-ever handheld console came stateside in 1989 and dominated the portable gaming market for nine years until the release of its successor, Game Boy Color, in 1998.

The humble 2.6-inch black-and-white display was a generation’s portal into on-the-go gaming, introducing the world to now-legendary Nintendo franchises like Pokemon, Kirby, and Wario. It ended its run with 118.69 million units sold, good for fourth on the list of all-time best-selling consoles.

To commemorate the 34th anniversary of the console’s North American release, IGN’s editors have created a list of the 16 best Game Boy games of all time.

To be eligible for this list, a game must have been released on the original Game Boy (no Game Boy Color exclusives).

16. Final Fantasy Legend 2

Despite carrying the Final Fantasy name, Legend 2 is the second game in Square’s SaGa series of more systems-heavy turn-based RPGs. (The Final Fantasy name was incorporated for the series’ North American release as Square, according to SaGa director Akitoshi Kawazu, “was trying to create a very simple ‘Square = Final Fantasy’ formula” in the West.)

The first two SaGa/Final Fantasy Legend games are among the Game Boy’s first-ever RPGs, and with expanded gameplay systems, graphical improvements, and a more impactful story, Final Fantasy Legend 2 stands above its predecessor.

A his studio's ratings are plummeting, he brings in old stars like Rayman to help restore the network to its former glory.

FFVII August 2023 Calendar Features Cloud on his motorcycle

It's a new month, which means a new FFVII calendar from Square Enix for August 2023. The Japanese Twitter account consistently releases new ones regularly for us to use on our computers and mobile devices. This month's is a piece of FFVII Remake art with Cloud on the Hardy-Daytona motorcycle he uses throughout the series.

Here's a gallery showing both of the August 2023 FFVII calendars with Cloud. August 11, 2023 is highlighted. This is because that's Cloud's birthday. It could also explain why he is the featured character for the month. However, Tifa was not the featured character in May 2023, which is the month in which her birthday falls. Instead, Aerith appeared on that calendar.
[gallery columns="2" size="full" ids="975635,975636" link="file"]

As a reminder, Cloud is following Zack. The July 2023 calendar was a summer-themed one. It featured Zack as he appeared in Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion. In it, we could see him from behind as he was on the beach on vacation at Costa Del Sol. While he got to see some members of the Turks, like Cissnei, there during the game, he was the only character to appear in that calendar image.

Saints Row reboot's third and final expansion arrives next week

9 months 1 week ago

Developer Volition's beleaguered Saints Row reboot has almost reached the end of its journey - as far as the studio has currently revealed, at least - with the game's third and final bit of DLC, titled A Song Of Ice And Dust, now confirmed to arrive next Tuesday, 8th August, ahead of a Steam release for what was previously an Epic Games Store PC exclusive on 24th August.

Specifics surrounding A Song Of Ice And Dust are still a little thin on the ground, but a brief synopsis accompanying today's release date news sets the scene for the DLC thusly: "When a crippling ambush decimates the Dustlanders, it's up to fierce rivals Bossonius and Gwendolyn Firebird to join forces and defend The DustFaire from a new foe."

As previously revealed when Volition shared its post-launch development roadmap for Saints Row earlier this year, the reboot's third and final paid DLC expansion will introduce new story missions, new enemies, new cosmetics, and more.

Warhaven Hands-On: Finding Joy in the Mayhem

9 months 1 week ago

In a bid for the growing number of warfare-centric multiplayer games with massive numbers of combatants taking to the field all at once to impale one another, Warhaven hopes make a name for itself with large maps, an impressive roster of warriors, and objective matches that have armies scrambling to overrun one another in an elaborate game of tug-of-war. I recently spent several hours with the team at Nexon and some of my fellow IGN sweaty tryhards as we tried desperately to maim one another while slinging as much trash talk as humanly possible. The result was a few entertaining hours that were complete pandemonium from beginning to end.

While combat may be slightly reminiscent of fellow third-person melee warfare game For Honor, Warhaven’s biggest departure is in its decidedly more chaotic style. Instead of smaller engagements with only a few players slowly and methodically dueling against one another, Warhaven 16-vs.-16 multiplayer throws an avalanche of opponents into a jumbled pile of swords, shields, and cannonballs that’s almost always pure mayhem. While fighting one-on-one can certainly be a strategic dance of blocking, slashing, and well-timed abilities, more often than not any hope at a fair fight is immediately dashed when either you or your opponent shows up in full force to ruthlessly butcher anyone in sight while sheer numbers throw any hope of fighting back right out the window.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Is 'in the Early Stages of Development' for PS4 and Xbox One

9 months 1 week ago

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is coming to even more consoles. But we're not talking about the Nintendo Switch, or some unannounced next-gen thing. Instead, Respawn is working on dedicated versions for last-gen systems, the Xbox One and PS4.

Announced today during EA's earnings call, the publisher revealed that Respawn is "in the early stages of development" to bring Jedi: Survivor to PS4 and Xbox One.

Of course, it's not abandoning the current-gen, either. "Additional performance improvements for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S remain a top priority at Respawn and the team will share more information as soon as the next update is ready," the publisher said in a statement.

While many games are still developed with both generations in mind, more and more AAA games in particular are opting to stick with current-gen as adoption rates on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles rise. However, the huge attach rate for the PS4 in particular makes it difficult for most games to fully skip.

Since before launch, fans have believed that Jedi: Survivor would be fully current-gen, despite its predecessor Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launching cross-gen, so this news may be a welcome surprise for Star Wars fans who haven't purchased the latest consoles yet. Hey, maybe this means we'll get Jedi: Survivor on Nintendo consoles too if the rumored next-gen Switch arrives as expected.
