Jagged Alliance 3 details how it will support two-player online co-op

10 months 1 week ago

Jagged Alliance 3 has detailed how it will support two-player online co-op.

Haemimont Games programmer and designer, Vlad Abadzhiev-Jahn, explained how the co-op system will be implemented in a new dev diary posted ahead of the highly-anticipated RPG's threequel release next week.

"Multiplayer brings a whole other energy to a game's campaign. It allows you to explore tactical differences with your partner and devise strategies together, experience and discuss the story side by side, and it also adds replayability," Abadzhiev-Jahn explains (thanks, PC Gamer).

Preview: Crymachina Thrills With Its Stunning Action Combat

10 months 1 week ago

Crymachina Preview PS5

Despite the similar names and aesthetics, Crymachina feels like its own beast, instead of a direct successor to FuRyu’s Crystar. At Anime Expo 2023, I had the chance to check this game out and it turned out to be one of the most surprisingly fun games I enjoyed at the event.

Crymachina features an intriguing post-apocalyptic storyline about a girl who wakes up as a machine in a dark world. She must fight to become a “real human.” The premise is odd and the brief story elements I saw in the preview were interesting, but I won’t dare spoil them here.

[caption id="attachment_971703" align="aligncenter" width="1200"]Crymachina Preview PS5 Image via NIS America[/caption]

The bulk of my PS5 preview involved basically an entire tutorial. I had the chance to run around the linear map, learning how to jump, dash, attack, and the like. Though it was more of a tutorial-style preview, I appreciated the overall cyberpunk-like style and frenetic action gameplay.

In many ways, Crymachina feels like it is diving into the Nier: Automata side of action RPGs. The movement is incredibly fast, with the game responding well to the player’s dashes and guards. I liked how I was able to zip around the battlefield with ease, while laying on my own swift attacks on foes.

Yes, you can respec your character in Baldur's Gate 3

10 months 1 week ago

Baldur's Gate 3 will allow players to re-spec their characters and create "multiclasses" in order to "avoid having to restart the whole game".

That's according to Larian's Nick Pechenin, who confirmed in a recent livestream that as well as bumping into a character who "will allow you to reset your class, and reinvest all of your levels", players can also explore some "really cool" multiclass combinations.

"We wanted to avoid players having to restart the whole game, because it's a very heavy narrative experience," Pechenin said (thanks, PC Gamer). "There's a character you might meet – you will most likely meet – that will allow you reset your class, and reinvest all of the levels."

Skullgirls 2nd Encore is finally coming to current gen Xbox consoles later this month.

Ten years after it first debuted, Skullgirls will hit Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on 19th July after it was indefinitely delayed coming to Microsoft systems back in 2019 "due to unforeseen development and production challenges".

Three years later, however, and it seems those "challenges" have been overcome, because – as spotted by TheGamer – a fresh store page for the game has now gone live on the Xbox store.

Which The Legend of Heroes Game Did You Like Best?

10 months 1 week ago

With so many The Legend of Heroes games from Nihon Falcom out there, which one did you like best and would you recommend people play?

It's a big week for The Legend of Heroes fans. We're at a period of time where every new entry gets localized. Trails into Reverie just appeared to give us more time with fan-favorites from the Erebonia and Crossbell regions. It's also a good opportunity to look back, given the change to reconnect with characters. With so many The Legend of Heroes games from Nihon Falcom out there, which one did you like best and would you recommend people play?

Nothing tops The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, as I wholeheartedly believe it is the best entry in the series. Estelle and Joshua's journey as new Bracers and two young adults out to discover truths about the world and themselves is fantastic. The progression is great. The world feels alive. Also, it doesn't wear out its welcome by taking four entries to tell its story. (I love Cold Steel, but it's so much.) -- Jenni

Longstanding JRPG series aren’t always the easiest things to get into. A series with a large number of games can look prohibitive, especially when there isn’t a clear place to start. Amarantus - a superb visual novel that gives you revolutions within revolutions

10 months 1 week ago

A beautifully written and illustrated tale of young people trying to change their world, which comes alive on replay.

I seldom feel like completing a game's story twice, even when a single run only lasts 3-4 hours and I know I've left mountains of stones unturned, but Amarantus amply justifies starting afresh. It's not just that a second playthrough gives you the chance to know characters in different ways - seducing him rather than her, or perhaps both at once; alienating an old friend while forming an unnervingly close bond with somebody who, last time round, threatened to kill you if you let your ideals get the better of your empathy. Nor is starting again just about uncovering what's really going on with the wider plot, with multiple playthroughs introducing people and backstories that exist initially as shadows, dancing between the lines of the prose and in the delicacies of character performances.

Amarantus is a tale of political revolution, but revolution can also mean repetition, and repetition is crucial here, not just in terms of learning and "mastering" this glorious visual novel's small, rewarding assortment of choices so as to reach the Best Ending, but also in the growing resonance of recurring scenes that explore "recurrence" as a theme. Starting again isn't simply about learning what you missed, and making less-terrible decisions. It's about learning what it means to start again, though it's hard to say more without spoiling things.

Bioshock Infinite dead ringer Clockwork Revolution more influenced by two other games, director says

Clockwork Revolution may look like BioShock Infinite, but game director Chad Moore has said the project is better described as the "love child" of role-playing games such as Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.

Moore said he has "always" described Clockwork Revolution as a mix of the two, due to its "deep world building, compelling narrative, crunchy RPG systems, engaging gameplay, and massive reactivity," on Twitter.

Moore's credits include both Arcanum and Bloodlines, as he was a lead artist and designer at developer Troika Games from 1999 to 2004. On his website, Moore states he was involved in narrative, content, and character design for both games.

Black Panther Game Announced By EA

10 months 1 week ago

Black Panther Cliffhanger Games

EA has announced that a Black Panther game is in the works. The title is being made by Cliffhanger Games, a new triple-A studio based in Seattle, in collaboration with Marvel Games.

The upcoming title is billed as a single-player story-driven third-person action-adventure game. In a press release, Cliffhanger states that “Our mission is to build an expansive and reactive world that empowers players to experience what it is like to take on the mantle of Wakanda’s protector, the Black Panther.”

Cliffhanger is led by Kevin Stephens, formerly of Monolith Productions (a studio currently making a Wonder Woman game), and consists of veteran talent who have worked on titles such as Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, God of War, Halo Infinite, and Call of Duty, among others. The team is still being assembled and is actively hiring. As such, this untitled Black Panther project is very early in development, so it will be a few years before it’s in our hands.

“We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game. Wakanda is a rich SuperHero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do,” said Kevin.

Honkai: Star Rail Garden of Plenty Event Starts

10 months 1 week ago

honkai star rail garden of plenty

The Garden of Plenty event is now live in Honkai: Star Rail. For Genshin Impact veterans, this is essentially the Star Rail version of Leyline Overflow. Every day, players will be able to run twelve rounds of Golden or Crimson Calyxes and receive double the rewards. The event will run from July 10-17, 2023.

As mentioned earlier, the daily double reward is limited. You can only get twice the rewards in twelve Golden or Crimson Calyxes per day. If you want to check how many chances you have left to the double rewards, you can do so from the event screen without having to go all the way to a Calyx.

Since Blade, Kafka, and Luka are coming out soon, this is a good chance to start getting materials for them. For reference, Blade is Destruction, whereas both Kafka and Luka are Nihility. While Ascension Materials for them are still unknown, they will still need to take the same items for Traces and levels. So you can pre-farm for them during the event. Even if you don’t want them, this is a good opportunity to stock up on items for your current or other future characters.

Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on Windows PC and mobile devices. The Garden of Plenty event in Honkai: Star Rail will run until July 17, 2023.

Street Fighter 6 Emergency Maintenance Begins Rashid Moves Returning

Capcom made two announcements regarding Street Fighter 6. One is more imminent. The other we'll see later. First, Street Fighter 6 emergency maintenance just began. That is expected to last two hours and end at 10am PT/1pm ET/6pm BST on July 10, 2023. The other has to do with the first DLC character. Two of Rashid's moves from Street Fighter 5 will return for this installment.

The Street Fighter 6 emergency maintenance is designed to fix two issues. One is to deal with the Lucky Days and make sure they appear. The other is to ensure people can get the Fighting Pass things they earn by playing. It began at 8am PT/11am ET/3am BST.

As for the two Street Fighter 5 Rashid moves, Eagle Spike and Spinning Mixer will be back. Eagle Spike was a special attack with standard, air, and dash variants in the previous game. Likewise, Spinning Mixer had a variant “dash” option.

Square Enix revealed a new bonus for Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis closed beta participants, as well as art of Cloud from the game. With the new reward, it is a login bonus. The items doled out let people pull on the weapon banners more and play the game more often. As for the new art, it shows Cloud’s three different kinds of designs that appear in the game.

First, the new rewards are doled out over time. As you log in to take part in the closed beta, you’ll eventually get two kinds of items. Up to 9,000 Blue Crystals can be earned. These let you pull on the weapon banners. One banner features Glenn & Matt weapons, while the other is a Barret & Cloud weapon banner. The other login bonus is six Stamina Tonic (L)s, which let you keep playing missions.

Next, here's the Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis Cloud art.
