More Diablo 4 Log-In Issues Emerge as Launch Players Flood Servers

11 months 1 week ago

Diablo 4 is experiencing further log-in issues as new players flood the servers.

Diablo 4: Ultimate Edition owners enjoyed four days of relatively smooth-sailing early access. Now Diablo 4 is available to all, more log-in issues are beginning to emerge.

“Game servers are down again,” said one Reddit user. "I was teleporting and got stuck on a loading screen. Now I can't load into the game, getting error 30000. Oh well."

Unfortunately, some were hit harder than others. When Hardcore mode characters die, they're gone forever, which makes disconnections even more stressful.

“I literally just lost my [Hardcore] character 95% through the campaign cause the game [disconnected] me during one of the final boss fights,” said a Reddit user.

"Bro when it went down earlier, I was just creating my character," said another Reddit user. "I said whatever, I’ll go play something else. I LITERALLY just logged back to try it again and this happened."

Even old-school LAN parties are affected. Diablo 4 is an always-online game, meaning local LANs can be struck with dreaded log-in server issues. "We were stuck queued for hours and ended up playing the Monster Hunter board game to pass the time," they said.

According to Blizzard Customer Service, the company is working on log-in problems.

Diablo 4 Player Hits Level 100 with a Hardcore Character Playing Solo

11 months 1 week ago

A Diablo 4 player has reached level 100 with a Hardcore character playing solo.

Wudijo, who hit the headlines last month after defeating world boss Ashava with a Hardcore character solo, is the first player to hit Diablo 4’s level cap with a Hardcore character playing on their own.

Hardcore mode adds permadeath to Diablo 4, which means if you die, your character is gone forever.

Wudijo set out to complete the challenge when Diablo 4 early access began on June 1, and finished June 5, a day before Diablo 4’s full launch. Watch the moment he hit level 100 live on Twitch here.

Wudijo admitted he felt "exhausted" after his gruelling four-day race to 100. "That was intense, man," he said shortly after hitting the level cap. "The last one-to-two hours I was just focused on mega-blasting.

"Thank you so much guys for being here. We survived. I've never had anything that crazy happen. I'm a bit exhausted. I'm not super tired today, but it was a very exhausting grind from start to finish — four days straight."

Vampire Survivors meets Diablo in Halls Of Torment

11 months 1 week ago

Itching to click on skeletons but not sure about Diablo 4? Have a gander at Halls Of Torment, a game I'll broadly describe as 'Vampire Survivors meets Diablo'. It lets you click on: so many skeletons. Halls Of Torment launched into early access last month and I've had a few hours of fun for a couple quid. The Diablo vibes are strong, it has some neat ideas for the genre, and it has a demo you can try for free. I only wish it drew a little more inspiration from Diablo and a little less from Survivors 'em up conventions.

Amnesia: The Bunker review: a grim yet refreshing horror bottle episode

11 months 1 week ago

More fool me for thinking the Amnesia story (a now-complex horror sci-fi epic about Cenobite-esque weirdos who gain immortality by drinking pain-milk extracted from people via torture at the hands of specially engineered torture-monsters) was done with Amnesia: Rebirth. Although, I suppose it actually is, because Rebirth is set in 1937, and Amnesia: The Bunker is effectively a bottle episode taking place during the First World War. And what a bottle episode! You'll spend 4-6 hours being chased around the tunnels of a maze-like bunker, winding up a dim, rubbish torch and reading increasingly unhinged diary notes from the French soldiers who've all been eaten, and boy will you have a great time.

Pikmin 4 Character Creator Shown Off in New Trailer

It turns out players in Pikmin 4 will use a character creator to make their own avatars. A new trailer for the game goes over the process, while detailing why people will insert themselves into the game. Not only did Captain Olimar crash land, but the Rescue Corp going to rescue him also crashed. So now it’s up to the player to head on an emergency mission to rescue all of them.

The Pikmin 4 character creator trailer goes through the process of making an “ID badge,” which also acts as your avatar. It begins by picking one of six hairstyle options. Then, you choose a body type. Four options appear there. The other tabs in the teaser suggest people can choose facial features, hairstyles, hair colors, and suit colors.

Creating The Look Of Final Fantasy 16

11 months 1 week ago

Final Fantasy XVI 16 Visual Style art director hiroshi minagawa game informer exclusive coverage cover story

Final Fantasy art is some of my favorite in all of games. The series' visuals fall somewhere between realism and fantasy, and it’s always fun to see how Square Enix studios leverage more powerful hardware to bring worlds to life. These settings, characters, and monsters are memorable, and a large reason for that is the art. It’s striking and unique – you know it’s Final Fantasy when you see it.

With each new Final Fantasy, Square Enix has a chance to solidify characters and worlds into the zeitgeist of gaming, like the company has done in the past with Final Fantasy VII’s Cloud Strife, Final Fantasy X’s Zanarkand, and more. During my cover story trip to Square Enix’s Tokyo, Japan, offices, I spoke to Final Fantasy XVI art director Hiroshi Minagawa about how developer Creative Business Unit III went about creating the game’s visual style.

One Piece Manga Will Go on 4-Week Hiatus

11 months 1 week ago

One Piece hiatus

One Piece will go on hiatus for four weeks, starting from Issue #29 of Weekly Shonen Jump and ending on #32. The reason for the break is due to Oda’s eye surgery. It is not a serious issue, and so it is likely that the series will resume from #33 without any issue. The last chapter of One Piece until the hiatus will be in Issue #28.

Here is a translation of Oda’s statement on the official One Piece Twitter account:

Now, everyone’s all excited about the final arc of One Piece but I kind of really wanna get surgery. So I’ve decided to get surgery that’ll make me shoot laser beams from my eyes! The more I joke, the more people will worry, so I’ll tell the truth. I was like, “Lately, I see lots of twins walking around,” but it turned out that I have serious astigmatism! Things look really blurry to me. This affects my work so last year, I discussed this issue with the chief editor. He told me “Go!” so I’ll come back with much better eyesight than before. Also, I’ll learn how to shoot laser beams from my eyes.

Silver Wolf Honkai: Star Rail Starhunt Event Detailed

Silver Wolf Honkai: Star Rail Starhunt Event Detailed

Immediately after the 1.1 Honkai: Star Rail update drops, the Starhunt event will begin. Now to help people prepare, HoYoVerse shared the requirements for the activity. People will need to have spent quite a bit of time playing to get their Trailblaze level up, then take part in both a Story Mode and Arcade Challenge to earn every reward and the Before the Tutorial Mission Starts Light Cone.

How to Take Part in Honkai: Star Rail Starhunt

First, you need to be at Trailblaze Level 21. This is accomplished by completing quests, grinding for materials at Calyxes and opponents, and taking on sidequests. Once you hit that point, you can take part in the Story Mode "Punklorde Mentality" Companion Mission and Arcade Challenge to complete objectives and get currency. This also involves the chance to get the Always Smiling currency for the event shop.

However, only part of these Silver Wolf activities in Honkai: Star Rail will be permanent. The Story Mode Companion Mission for her will always appear, even after the event ends. It will just not let you get the Before the Tutorial Mission Starts Light Cone after that point or access Graffiti Mode in the Camera. The Arcade Challenge and its Deep Web Gray Market event shop will be gone, and the Always Smiling Currency will also disappear.

Blizzard says Diablo 4 is its "fastest-selling game of all time"

11 months 1 week ago

Blizzard seems pretty chuffed with the response to Diablo 4, and is now trumpeting the fact that, not only have players cumulatively already racked up over 10,000 years of play time, Diablo 4 is also the company's "fastest-selling game of all time".

Blizzard is calculating those impressive-sounding play time figures based on the number of in-game hours players have accrued since 1st June, the date when Diablo 4 entered "early access" for those willing to pay extra for the privilege.

The company reckons over 93m hours of Diablo 4 have been played across the first four days, equating to over 10,000 years (actually more like 10,616 years according to my calculator, but who am I to quibble maths?) - or, as Blizzard puts it, the equivalent of one person "playing 24 hours a day since the beginning of human civilisation".

RoboCop: Rogue City - The FPS That Walks When Others Run

11 months 1 week ago

When you think of RoboCop, you think of a one-man tank. A heavily armed and armored dealer of justice who patrols the streets of Detroit while walking really slowly. Honestly, it’s a surprise he ever makes it to the scene of the crime on time, given the pace he ambles along. It’s even more of a surprise that RoboCop’s methodical movement from the movies has made it into Rogue City, which is a first-person shooter – a genre traditionally dominated by games where speed and agility are key.

Of course, RoboCop’s slow and precise movements are two crucial parts of his identity, so it was always the plan to make that an important part of the game. However, it meant rethinking the way the developer approached making a first-person shooter. “It was one of the biggest design challenges, to get that slow and heavy character into the game,” explains Piotr Latocha, RoboCop: Rogue City’s game director. “He's kind of slow and tankish, and we need to be true to the lore, but also we cannot be super slow and super heavy. So finding that spot – how to make this character interesting, so the combat was fluid – was the biggest challenge.”

Bowser Is Canonically 34 Years Old

11 months 1 week ago

Nintendo just revealed that Bowser, Mario's longtime arch-enemy and the King of the Koopas in the Mushroom Kingdom, is canonically 34 years old.

The ages of all the characters in the Super Mario Bros. franchise have remained a mystery since 1985. However, Nintendo of America revealed Bowser's age in the most hilarious way possible: through a YouTube video post last Friday (though still unlisted) showing Nintendo Switch owners how to create a Nintendo Account.

The first thing you do when creating your Nintendo Account is put in your birthdate to ensure you're 18 or older at the time of account creation. The company used Bowser as an example for the demonstration to make it seem as though he's making a Nintendo Account for himself, setting his birthdate to Feb. 5, 1989, which puts his age at precisely 34 years old. That's quite young for a turtle dragon that's been going after Mario and his friends along with Princess Peach for nearly 40 years.

Nintendo also revealed the canonical age of Bowser's only son, Bowser Jr. When creating a Nintendo Account for a child, Bowser Jr.'s birthdate is set to March 3, 2010, which makes him 13 years old. Seeing the heir to the Koopa throne as a teenager instead of the little kid he's always been is hilarious considering we haven't seen him hit puberty yet - growth spurt, deepening voice, acne and all.

If you're wondering how old some of the other characters are, Shigeru Miyamoto said in a 2005 interview that Mario is somewhere between 24 and 25, while Luigi is the same age. That means they're twins!

Respawn Teases the Return of Everyone's Favourite Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Character

11 months 1 week ago

Respawn's Jedi: Survivor included a ton of new and returning characters completely crucial to Star Wars Canon but perhaps none more important than Turgle.

The giant froggy menace grabbed the attention of Star Wars fans for his strangely charismatic shenanigans, and now Jedi: Survivor director Stig Asmussen has teased his return in the future.

This%20may%20not%20be%20the%20end%20of%20Turgle.%20Source%3A%20Respawn%20Entertainment

Speaking to IGN for Podcast Beyond, Asmussen commented on the fan reaction to Turgle and gave his followers hope that they'll get even more in the future.

"When you work on a game, you never know what people are going to latch onto and Turgle... the team love Turgle," he said.

"I think Richard Horvitz, the actor, did a fine job with him, but once it goes live, once it's out in the wild and seeing people's reaction with that, it confirmed and validated a lot of the feelings that we had on the team."

Finally, when asked if Turgle could return, perhaps in the third game that Asmussen hopes to make, Asmussen teased that he hopes so.

Diablo 4 Is Blizzard's Fastest Selling Game of All Time, Albeit After 4 Days of Early Access

11 months 1 week ago

Blizzard revealed that Diablo 4 is the company’s fastest-selling game of all time. Although, this milestone has some caveats.

While Blizzard didn’t provide any specific sales numbers, Diablo 4 has been played for 93 million hours since its early access launch on June 1.

“This is a moment years in the making for the Diablo 4 team,” said Rod Fergusson, Diablo general manager, in a statement. “We’re extremely proud to offer players the richest story ever told in a Diablo game.”

He continued: “Since the game was first announced in 2019, the support from millions of players around the world drove us toward this release of our dark vision of Sanctuary. Hail Lilith, Blessed Mother.”

It’s once again worth noting that Diablo 4 has been out for four days before its official release date of June 6. So Blizzard is‌ presumably counting sales from early access members in addition to day-one purchases from everyone else.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Has More Intimate Battles Than Ever Before, Square Enix Says

11 months 1 week ago

Square Enix has confirmed Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has new characters, obviously, as well as more intimate battles compared to its predecessor.

The game’s fifth developer comment was revealed on Twitter with the question: “Has the battle system changed from Final Fantasy V7 Remake?”

Battle director Teruki Endo responded: “In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, new comrades will join you in battle and you can cooperate with other party members in even closer ways than before.”

Many fans are speculating about which characters will join Cloud and his crew in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but the fan favorite is Vincent Valentine. Other potential new characters include Cid Highwind, Cait Sith and Red XIII. Endo’s response is rather vague, so it’s unclear what he means when players can cooperate with party members even closer this time around. Persona-like social meters to increase relationship levels? Intimate Fire Emblem Fates teammates face petting? Who knows?

Street Fighter 6 Year 1 Ultimate Pass Confusion Sparks Steam Backlash

11 months 1 week ago

Capcom has moved to remind Street Fighter 6 players that DLC hasn’t come out yet amid a backlash to the game’s Ultimate Pass.

The Street Fighter 6 Year 1 Ultimate Pass, which costs $49.99 / £49.99, launched alongside the game itself and now has a “Mostly Negative” user review rating on Steam.

The backlash stems from confusion about the availability of the content of the Pass itself, as well as a feeling from some that it does not include enough of the in-game currency.

The Ultimate Pass includes four additional characters (Rashid, A.K.I., Ed, Akuma), extra colours and costumes for those characters, two new stages, and 7,700 Drive Tickets.

"Really unimpressed with this cheap tactic to squeeze extra money out of people with easily misleading wording."

While the Steam page for the Pass states it includes post-launch content, some thought it would be unlocked upon purchase.

There's additional confusion about the Pass' extra colours and costumes, with some thinking they are for the launch roster of characters rather than the upcoming DLC characters.

"Don't get me wrong, I love the base game," reads one “Not Recommended” Steam review. "But now that I realise what this Ultimate Pass includes (or more so, what it doesn't include) I really regret paying out almost double what the base game cost in order to get the Ultimate version. There's a bunch of costumes and colours for the base characters, why were these not included in the Ultimate Pass? Really unimpressed with this cheap tactic to squeeze extra money out of people with easily misleading wording."

How Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Drew Inspiration From The Legend of Zelda

11 months 1 week ago

Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Jedi franchise has never been shy about pulling from FromSoftware's Dark Souls games but director Stig Asmussen has revealed The Legend of Zelda to be another inspiration.

Speaking to IGN for Podcast Beyond, Asmussen revealed that sequel Jedi: Survivor's developers drew inspiration from Zelda games to create the myriad of puzzles for Cal Kestis and the player to overcome.

We had a lot of puzzles in the game and I would be lying if I didn't say that we definitely drew inspiration from Zelda

"We had a lot of puzzles in the game and I would be lying if I didn't say that we definitely drew inspiration from Zelda," he said.

Asmussen explained that his team of level designers essentially had a toy box of different Force abilities and other mechanics to play with and create these puzzles from, keeping Zelda in mind as they did so.

"It's all about creating these challenges for those who want to take part in [them]," he added. "We had kind of a clever wrapper, that these were old High Republic training centres. This is kind of their NASA pilot training abilities."

Environmental puzzles are a big part of Jedi Survivor, and Cal frequently comes across areas that resemble the shrines in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. It's just one of the many ways that Zelda has inspired action-adventure games in recent years.
