Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary joins the Master Chief Collection on PC today

4 years 1 month ago

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, the spruced-up edition of Bungie's seminal Xbox shooter, is available as part of The Master Chief Collection on PC from today.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection launched on Steam, the Microsoft Store, and Xbox Games Pass for PC last December, and unlike the Xbox One version - which currently includes every major game in the series released to date - initially arrived with just Halo: Reach.

As such, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is the second title to grace the collection for PC players, and arrives with "new features, optimisations, and customisations built for the platform". There's the option to play with classic or enhanced visuals, updated shadow and texture quality, plus support 60 fps and above, 4K UHD, ultra-wide displays and different aspect ratios, control rebinding, native mouse/keyboard, and more.

This New Official Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris Hat is Clean as Can Be

4 years 1 month ago

Listen I have to admit, I’m very hyped for the return of Trials of Osiris in Destiny 2’s Season of the Worthy. There have been few PvP experiences in this generation that have been more intense than closing in and and then achieving that flawless Trials run and visiting The Lighthouse for that sweet Adept loot.

It sounds like, at least on paper, that Bungie is putting their full weight behind making sure Trials of Osiris isn’t a disaster like Trials of the Nine was. They are bringing back all the classic gear, at least one part of The Lighthouse, if not the whole thing, is going to be reserved for flawless card holders, and of course Elimination is the game mode of choice.

Most importantly, Bungie confirmed that artifact power level gains are not going to apply in Trials which is a huge relief.

What I’m low-key pumped about too though is this fresh looking Trials of Osiris hat that is going to be purchasable. Check it out below.

Halo: Combat Evolved just got added to Master Chief Collection on PC

4 years 1 month ago

Halo: The Master Chief Collection just had some long-awaited reinforcements arrive. The Noble Six now have more firepower by their side.

Today, Microsoft stealthily doubled the size of Master Chief Collection on PC by adding Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. Saber Interactive was in charge of porting the original Halo to PC, although this is almost like a remaster of the 2011 Anniversary remaster on Xbox 360. It has support for 4K resolution and frame rates at 60fps and above.

Here are the other PC-specific features that Microsoft calls attention to: variable framerate, native mouse and keyboard support with ability to rebind controls, ultra-wide display support for various aspect ratios, and the usual array of visual quality options.

The Master Chief Collection on PC runs $40 on both Steam and the Windows 10 Store. Alternatively, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary can be purchased a la carte from either of those stores for $10. Lastly, Master Chief Collection is also a part of Xbox Game Pass for PC, so subscribers can just queue it up as part of that membership.

There's A Tamagotchi In Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare's New Update

4 years 1 month ago

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is known for its cosmetic items, usually in the form of militaristic or cool-looking skins for your operators and their gear. Infinity Ward has now introduced a more playful item, which imitates the Tamagotchi fad of the late '90s.

The "Tomogunchi" is available from the in-game item shop for 1,000 CoD Points. The bundle includes a charm, emblem, calling card, sticker, and spray. The real star of the bundle is the Tomogunchi toy itself, which is represented as a wristwatch-like item. The tweet suggests that you can check on your little virtual pet, feed it, monitor its mood, and help it evolve.

Modern Warfare has been careful not to sell game-changing items through its shop, so it's doubtful the Tomogunchi will do anything to help up your game. In fact, if you get too distracted with checking on your pet it might actually be a detriment to the firefights around you. A guide on the Activision blog looks as if the Tomogunchi responds to your in-game play, making it something of a real-time performance tracker.

Apex Legends' New Update Has A Very Big File Size

4 years 1 month ago

If you're an Apex Legends fan, you might want to clear some space on your hard drive, because the game's new 6.2 patch is a hefty one. Coming in at 32.5 GB on PC, 33 GB on Xbox One, and 18.5 GB on PS4, it's one of the bigger game updates in recent memory. According to the patch announcement, this large size is intended to allow developer Respawn to ensure that future patches are smaller.

"As an FYI, players will notice this patch size is larger than most," Respawn explained in a tweet. "This was done so that future patch sizes will be significantly smaller than what they've traditionally been."

This event introduces a new limited-time mode called Déjà Loot, where all the loot spawns in the same location for the duration of the event, with the plane path and circle locations will shift on a daily basis. According to developer Respawn, this is intended to reward players for learning the map in the short-term. Tweaks have also been made to how Bloodhound plays and to make Wattson less of a must-have.

A Dramatic Podcast Fills In The Gaps Of Fallout 76's Broken World

Fallout 76 didn’t have much of a storyline when it was released in November 2018. Its world was full of interesting little details, but bereft of living, breathing characters. Instead, it tasked players with creating their own narratives. Some role-played as cannibals, others joined cults. One person decided to try…

Mario Kart Tour's multiplayer mode launches Monday in the UK

4 years 1 month ago

Mario Kart Tour, which is sort of what you'd get if microtransactions had wheels, will no longer be a strictly solo affair as of next week; the iOS and Android racer's long-promised multiplayer mode is set to arrive on Monday, 9th March in the UK.

When the "free-to-start" Mario Kart Tour launched on mobile devices last September, it was lacking anything resembling the series' beloved real-time multiplayer racing, with the only vaguely competitive element existing in the form of World Ranking leaderboards.

Nintendo added the option to beta test a more traditional multiplayer mode last December, but only for those signed up to (or trialing) the game's dubious £5/month Gold Pass.

Nekojishi: Lin & Partners Brings Our Favorite Furries to the Corporate World

4 years 1 month ago

We here at Twinfinite always love to name drop Nekojishi whenever we can. The free-to-play indie gem came out of nowhere when it first released on Steam a few years ago, making our dreams come true by coupling traditional dating sim elements with buff, gay kitties. It also had a theme song that rocks too damned hard for words.

Nekojishi told the tale of college nobody Liao, whose whole life was turned around when he discovered the latent ability to communicate with his ancestral spirits; mythical beings that come in the form of anthropomorphic cats. Like any rational man, once he realized this newfound power, his next big decision was which one he should seduce.

Equally coming out of nowhere, Studio Klondike has dropped a furry bombshell by announcing its long awaited sequel, Nekojishi: Lin & Partners, which will be available on PC, Mac and Nintendo Switch in 2021.

It continues the tale of Liao and his feline guardians, who have fallen on financial hardship since graduating. They resolve to enter the cutthroat world of architecture, encountering a bevy of mystical beasts who all seem to be really keen on the property market.

Mario Kart Tour multiplayer mode launches this weekend

4 years 1 month ago

Nintendo has announced a launch date for Mario Kart Tour's multiplayer mode, which will finally go live in the mobile racer later for all players on March 8, almost half a year after the game's initial launch in September 2019.

Once the update is live, players will be able to race up to seven other players in both local and online play. The multiplayer mode will be available to all Mario Kart Tour players, but the high-powered 200cc racers will still remain locked out to players who are not subscribed to MKT's "Gold Pass" subscription service.

Mario Kart Tour is available now on iOS and Android devices.

WayForward's DuckTales: Remastered is no longer delisted

4 years 1 month ago

DuckTales: Remastered was delisted from digital stores in 2019, but the game is back today.

Capcom shared the news this morning and reminded us that the prettied-up platformer is available for purchase on PC via Steam, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 (and by extension Xbox One thanks to backward compatibility), and Wii U. Naturally, fans have called for a Nintendo Switch port. I don't blame 'em!

There have been higher-profile removals than DuckTales: Remastered, sure, but it's unfortunate to see any game – especially ones that let you pogo jump! – vanish in the night. All is right again. (For now.)

I have to say, it feels so strange to use the site's Wii U tag in 2020. I think it's haunted.

Castlevania's Third Season Is A Violent Slow Burn

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Tomogunchi Virtual Pet Is Now Available

4 years 1 month ago
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Tomogunchi virtual pets are now available and allow players to wear a cute dog, panda, ghost, and more on their wrist that each have moods and can all evolve depending on how you perform in-game. Revealed by Activision through a fictional Rothwynn Industries paid advertisement, these new Tomogunchi can be purchased in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare store for 1,000 CP or $10 USD, and must be equipped to use. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/03/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-tomogunchi-virtual-pet-trailer"] When you first join a match with the Tomogunchi equipped, it will appear as an egg ready to hatch. Shortly thereafter, a new baby Tomogunchi will emerge as your new best friend. By taking care of its needs, you will be able to grow it into a Child, a Teen, and a full Adult. Rothwynn also teases there may be "multiple pet forms and options to discover." Pressing the d-pad up or the up-arrow key will allow players to use the "Watch Interact" gesture and check up on your Tomogunchi. By doing so, you will be able to see its four faces that represent its emotional states - Hungry, Dirty, Unruly, and Sleepy. These faces will only appear when your one of your pet's needs must be met. Kills, Objective Scoring, Killstreaks, and Wins all lead to a happy Tomogunchi.

You Can Now Watch Hulu + Live TV On Your PS4

4 years 1 month ago

The US-based television subscription service Hulu has now added its “Hulu + Live Television” package to PS4’s list of media applications, the company announced today. It essentially serves as a replacement for Sony’s own PlayStation Vue, which had been the only streaming service the company allowed on the platform before shutting Vue down toward the end of last year.

It’s a decision that was blamed on the rising costs of live TV licenses, which saw a number of Vue price bumps that slowly began to negate its big advantage over traditional cable. With Sony out of the game, Hulu now offers something similar at a price point that should stay fairly steady thanks to the service’s increasing presence in the streaming space.

The Hulu and live TV bundle costs $54.99 per month and offers a number of live channels –ESPN, FOX, NBC, and ABC– in addition to the basic ad-free Hulu subscription. If you already have Hulu then you’re able to upgrade from your account settings menu.

As per Hulu’s own description:

“Hulu + Live TV is currently supported by Apple TV (4th generation), Amazon Fire TV devices, Amazon’s Echo Show, Roku devices, Xbox One, Xbox 360, iOS and Android mobile devices, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, select LG and Samsung TVs, VIZIO SmartCast TVs, Windows 10, Mac and PC browsers, and Chromecast.”

A fighter's guide for Granblue Fantasy: Versus

4 years 1 month ago

Granblue Fantasy: Versus is finally out, and if you've read our review, you should have a solid idea of how it works compared to other fighting games. Granblue Fantasy: Versus, I think, succeeds in making every character feel distinct in their playstyle and preferred strategy. You'll just need to take some time testing each of them in the training mode to really figure out which fighter is right for you.

If you pick based on aesthetics alone, then it may be easier to pick the seductive Metera or the edgelord Vaseraga. But if you want to figure out who best fits you in terms of playstyle like keepaway, rushdown, or mixup, then here is a general overview of every initial character from launch, from someone who has been at the game since it first debuted overseas.

I’ll go over each character from the launch roster, in a simplified explanation of how they play, and important moves they’ll be relying on. Damage is high, so matches can end quickly if you guess wrong a few times in a row. Plus, there’s not a lot of distance to the corner, so a good chunk of a match is going to be spent either doling out or suffering through some especially powerful corner combos.

Blasphemous got a major patch on PS4, Switch, and Xbox One

4 years 1 month ago

If you haven't completely combed Blasphemous yet, or you're planning to eventually play the gnarly metroidvania game again when time allows, some good news: a major patch just dropped on consoles.

Patch 2 is meant to "make Blasphemous feel even better and more accessible than ever, refining and polishing the experience as much as possible without actually changing the core game," according to the developers. It's been out on PC since December. Many of the changes were informed by the community.

The major improvements have to do with platforming, which was trickier than it needed to be in some cases, and fixes for softlocks, graphical issues, NPC quests, and Guilt Fragments. You can find the full patch notes here, but basically, The Game Kitchen polished up the place from top to bottom.
