2 years 9 months ago

As of last week McDonalds Australia had been planning on giving away a bunch of custom PS5 controllers, each plastered with a burgers + fries motif in celebration of the company’s 50th birthday (in Australia). Weirdly, the international dining behemoth forgot to ask Sony about this first.

New 2K Game To Be Revealed This Month And More From Take Two's Earnings Report

2 years 9 months ago

Take Two released its Q1 earnings report alongside a conference call today, which revealed there’s a new IP coming from the company. Better yet, it’s going to be announced later this month. Along with this tease, we caught a glimpse at what releases are planned for the remainder of the 2022 fiscal year from Take Two’s brands and beyond.

Under the umbrella of the 2K brand, this new franchise will be revealed within a few weeks according to today’s prepared statements from Take Two President Karl Slatoff. After covering previously announced titles like NBA 2K22, WWE 2K22 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Slatoff talked a little about this new project by saying, “In addition, later this month, 2K will unveil details of another exciting new franchise planned for launch during this fiscal year.” There’s been no word from the company regarding which studio is working on this title or what it may be, but we can infer its aiming to be released by March 31 of next year.

Also in the presentation was this tidbit about other games coming by the end of FY 2022: “As we continue to develop our pipeline, there has been movement in some of our planned releases, including two of our immersive core titles shifting to later in Fiscal 2022 than our prior guidance had contemplated.” While these games go unnamed as well, Take Two’s report shows three unannounced projects listed as new iterations of existing games listed alongside the new generation releases of Grand Theft Auto 5, GTA Online, and Kerbal Space Program.

Strategy JRPG Relayer for PS5 & PS4 Introduces Venus, Dark Walker, Mecha Viewer, & More

2 years 9 months ago

Kadokawa Games had more images, videos, and details to share about its upcoming strategy simulation JRPG Relayer.

First of all, we get the introduction of two characters, Venus and Dark Walker.

Venus is part of the Asterism’s maintenance team. She’s actually a Star Child, but her aptitude for GY Particles is low, so she’s not a pilot and helps out as a mechanic instead. She appears to be frustrated because she cannot fight.

Dark Walker is one of the Pillars among the Master Relayer. While she attacks humanity and the Asterism, she appears to be acting with different values compared to the other Relayer. Her words and actions may prove to be particularly interesting.

Both characters are played by Arisa Noto, who also played Wakako Shiba in Root Film, Cui in Fairy Fencer F, and Nem in Omega Labyrinth Life. We get to see her introduction in one of the videos below.

The second video will be rather exciting for mecha fans, as it shows the mecha viewer that you can access in the game. It allows you to take a look at all the Stella Gear and Dark Gear that make an appearance and at all their animations in 3D.

The last screenshot showcases the Stella Gear customization menu. You can select weapons, armor, shields, and custom chips.

Take-Two says it's announcing an "exciting new franchise" later this month

2 years 9 months ago

Publisher Take-Two says it'll be announcing an "exciting new franchise" later this month with a release planned before the end of the current fiscal year in March 2022.

The news (as spotted by VGC) comes via Take-Two's Q1 2022 earnings call and follows pre-E3 leaks earlier this year - corroborated by VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb - revealing two new unannounced games from the publisher.

Mafia 3 studio Hangar 13 is said to be working on a title described as "Cthulhu meets Saints Row" while XCOM developer Firaxis is reportedly creating a Marvel-themed turn-based strategy game. And while Take-Two offered no hint as to nature of its "new franchise" in its earnings call, this month's Gamescom digital event seems a likely candidate for a full reveal.

Splitgate is still so slammed that it has a new server status Twitter account

2 years 9 months ago

As we learned a week ago, portaling FPS Splitgate was so popular during its open beta phase that 1047 Games had to extend the beta and delay launch. They're currently attempting to expand their servers and fit over 100,000 players. At the moment, interest in Splitgate is still outpacing their ability to expand, with queue times hitting 90 minutes yesterday. 1047 are now tracking server and queue status on Twitter while they work to keep up and say they are "working our tails off."

Charybdis Revealed To Be the Newest Smite Playable Character

2 years 9 months ago

Charybdis, the ancient Greek mythological monster, has just been revealed to be a new Smite God in its already giant roster of playable characters.

For those who aren’t in the know, Charybdis is a giant sea creature that is often alongside the sea monster Scylla (who is also a playable character) and has been featured in several epic battles between legendary Greek heroes.

It looks like Titan Forge Games took creative liberties when designing Charybdis. She is shown as not a giant worm-like creature which is her usual depiction but leans more towards a human personification of the beast. They’ve even gone so far as to give her armor and heterochromia. They did manage to keep some of her mythos intact by showing her attacking wandering ships and Roman soldiers in her trailer.

Charybdis’ reveal trailer can be found here:

If you’re interested in learning about which SMITE Gods could give you the upper hand, check out our list where we rank some of the best Smite gods you can find in game. Charybdis herself will be playable in SMITE somewhere around August.

2K Games Will Announce “Exciting” New Franchise This Month; It Will Debut by March 2022

2 years 9 months ago

During Take-Two Interactive Software’s financial conference call for investors and analysts, the company’s executives teased a new announcement coming soon.

According to present Karl Slatoff, the company’s brand 2K Games will announce this month an “exciting” new franchise that will debut during the current fiscal year.

This means that the game will launch by March 2022.

Interestingly, Chief Financial Officer Lainie Goldstein also added later in the call that games not yet announced are expected to be among the biggest contributors for this fiscal year’s revenue along with the usual big games like NBA 2K, Grand Theft Auto Online, Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Red Dead Online.

This appears to indicate that take-two expects its unannounced games for this fiscal year to be rather big, and the new franchise to be revealed this month may be among those.

No further information has been provided about this new game, and we’ll have to wait and see what it is when the announcement is made later this month.

It’s worth mentioning that the company expects to release four “core releases” by March 2022, two of which have been shifted to later in the fiscal year earlier today.

Ryan Reynolds Reaches Next Level as ‘Dude’ in This Free Guy Clip

2 years 9 months ago

Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming video game movie, Free Guy, is almost here, leading to a slew of promotions coming from the actor’s official YouTube page to help everyone get hyped. You can see the most recent clip down below, which features a brand new antagonist named Dude.

In the trailer, we get a first look at the character Taika Waititi’s Antwan created as a means of opposing Ryan Reynolds’ character, Guy. At first glance, this blonde-haired, muscular, blue t-shirt tattoo-repping animal looks oddly familiar…really familiar, in fact.

Yes, that is right, Ryan Reynolds is not only going to be the protagonist of Free Guy, he is also going to be one of its primary villains. Alongside some small bits from the movie, the Next Level Reynolds video also gives us some added commentary from Reynolds playing Dude.

The video is definitely worth the watch as a result of this, as there are parts of it that won’t appear in the movie and were shot solely so the actor could ham it up as this character. Free Guy will be available in theaters later this month, Aug. 13.

The Lord of the Rings Amazon Prime TV Show Set to Begin Sept. 2022

2 years 9 months ago

Earlier today, the LOTRonPrime Twitter account — the official Twitter account for the Amazon Prime version of The Lord of The Rings — revealed a brand-new teaser photo along with the planned release date for episode one of this new adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s most well-known work.

Thanks to this post we know that the Lord of the Rings will begin on Sept. 2, 2022 on Amazon Prime. And despite only a single image accompanies the post, there is much to see.

The brightest spot in the image is almost certainly Laurelin, The Gold Tree. And if you look very closely, you’ll also spot Telperion, The Silver Tree, right next to it. The foliage, dew, and fruit of these massive trees brought light to Valar before the Sun and Moon were created from the two as they died.

Since both gigantic trees are shining simultaneously in the image, it could be inferred that this image is either during dawn or dusk.

But that’s where things start to get interesting. As of right now, there has been no official indication about what part of Tolkien’s mythology this show will take place within. The Trees of Valinor existed well before the story of Frodo’s journey, so that could mean any number of things.

It could be that this show focuses on a time in this world that we’ve never seen put to film yet or it could simply be a flashback. There’s no way to tell for sure at this point in time.

12 Things You Didn’t Know About Animal Crossing

2 years 9 months ago

The First Game Was on the Nintendo 64

Dobutsu no Mori (Animal Forest)

If you thought the first Animal Crossing game was on the GameCube, you’d be mistaken. The very first release was actually on the Nintendo 64. It was called Dobutsu no Mori (Animal Forest) and was exclusive to Japan at the very beginning of 2001. In fact, it was one of the very last games released for the N64 at the end of its life cycle.

This was an experimental title that ended up being re-released later on the GameCube due to its wild success. Since the N64 had no internal clock, the real-time clock had to be set manually, and it used an internal device within the cartridge to keep time ticking.

Take-Two Announces Financial Results Above Expectations: Delays 2 Core Games to Later in Fiscal Year

2 years 9 months ago

Today Take-Two Interactive Software announced its financial results for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2022, which ended on June 30, 2021.

Below you can check out a summary of the company’s performance.

  • GAAP net revenue was $813 million
  • GAAP net income per diluted share increased to $1.30
  • GAAP net cash provided by operating activities for the three-months ended June 30, 2021 was $148 million
  • Adjusted Unrestricted Operating Cash Flow (Non-GAAP) for the three-months ended June 30, 2021 was $29 million
  • Net Bookings were $711 million, above guidance
  • Company reiterates outlook for fiscal year 2022

That the results are defined above expectations, and while net revenue dropped slightly (2%) year-on-year, net income increased 72% year-on-year.

The press release also included a comment from Chief Executive Officer Strauss Zelnick, who boasted about the results above expectations.

He mentions that two of the company’s core games will ship later in the fiscal year (wich means they’re still coming by March 2022 at the latest) than previously expected.

For reference, in last quarter’s report, Take-Two announced that it would release four “core releases” of which two from new franchises by March 2022. This means that the number remains the same, but two of them will release a few months later than predicted.

“We began fiscal 2022 with positive momentum, which was reflected in our ability to deliver first quarter operating results which were above our expectations. During the period, we continued to invest in our future, including growing our creative teams and expanding our mobile business and expertise further.

Battlefield 2042 might not have a story campaign but it's getting a short film

2 years 9 months ago

If it's story you want with your Battlefield 2042 now that Dice has confirmed there won't be a single-player campaign this time around, your next best thing might very well be arriving in the form of an official short film tie-in set to debut next week.

Dice announced the existence of its new "standalone" cinematic short, titled Exodus, over on Twitter earlier today, revealing the mini-movie will detail the events that ultimately "trigger an all-out war" within the universe of 2042.

As Eurogamer's Martin Robinson explained earlier this year, despite Battlefield 2042 eschewing a solo campaign to focus on multiplayer, it does still play out against a narrative backdrop: a humanitarian crisis brought about by climate change, where nomadic refugees known as No-Pats take up arms as the United States and Russia engage in "all-out war".

After so much silence, we finally have our first (small) look at Amazon's Lord of the Rings TV series, as well as when we can expect to watch it. The show, which has yet to reveal the official title, is slated to premiere on September 2, 2022. While we don't have a trailer to feast those eyes on, we do have an image teaser that seems to be our first look at the kingdom of Númenor.

The break of silence happened via a short and simple tweet from the Lord of the Rings TV series Twitter account. With a teaser image and release date for the pilot, "a new journey begins" is only the start of us learning more about Amazon's take on the beloved Tolkien universe.

Breath Of The Wild And Ghost Of Tsushima Follow-Ups Should Expand Games’ Fantastic Emergent Experiences

2 years 9 months ago

“Does this do anything?” is one of my favorite questions to ask while I’m running around a video game world. A lot of the time, the answer is no. But I keep asking because every so often, I find a game that rewards my curiosity in the best ways. Recently, Acid Nerve’s Zelda-like Death’s Door earned a spot on that list of games for one small, but delightful gag where cutting a sign in half affects both the physical object you attacked and its corresponding pop-up dialogue bubble. This is such a fun detail that doesn’t need to be in Death’s Door, but it is, and the game is better for it. This fun homage got me thinking about the joke’s inspiration, The Legend of Zelda, and how great the series has been at creating these kinds of interactive moments, especially its latest entry, Breath of the Wild.

As an open-world game, Breath of the Wild is centered around exploration. That exploration isn’t limited to simply allowing players to climb every mountain in view – though to be clear I did try to climb every mountain in view – the game’s physics system gives players agency to tackle challenges in extremely unique and unprompted ways. The first taste of this Breath of the Wild-style freedom involved a boulder and a whole camp of unsuspecting Bokoblins.

Nier: Automata and Ghostrunner lead August's PlayStation Now additions

2 years 9 months ago

Another month means a fresh batch of additions to Sony's PlayStation Now service, with August's offerings now confirmed to be Nier: Automata, Ghostrunner, and Undertale.

Nier: Automata is probably the biggest eye-catcher, providing another opportunity to experience developer Platinum Games' celebrated action-RPG. Creator Yoko Taro's second Nier outing - which follows the dystopian travails of androids 2B and 9S - is as richly atmospheric and dizzyingly inventive as its predecessor, mixing Platinum's tried-and-tested hack-and-slash action with ample genre-busting surprises as its layers are gradually revealed.

"Those searching for an endlessly imaginative dreamlike journey," wrote Jeffrey Matulef in his Recommended review, "will find Nier: Automata too mesmerising to look away from.

An Ode To Halo Infinite And The Homicidal Bots That Slayed Me

2 years 9 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

This past weekend was Halo Infinite's first official technical test, and we here at Game Informer couldn't wait to dive in. This game's early access testing period was my only objective over the last several days outside of basic hygiene, and to say that I can't wait for more would be a massive understatement. That being said, can we talk about the bots in this game because holy heck, are they nothing like I was expecting. In fact, they are straight up just serial killers with a mean sadistic streak...

When you hear bots, you think EZ win, right? Well, in Halo Infinite, they are mastermind slaughter experts. When we first jumped into a match on Friday with our GI community over on Twitch, myself, Alex Stadnik, and John Carson were blown away by the vehement aggression from the AI enemies. This aggression is actually pretty cool. We want a challenge, challenge us, bots! With that in mind, none of us were prepared for the level of venom these programmed little jerks had to offer.
