Japan Sweeps All Three VGC Divisions at 2023 Pokemon Worlds

8 months 2 weeks ago

The 2023 Pokemon World Championships event is now in the books, and on the video game championship front, Japan has plenty of reason to celebrate. Sora Ebisawa (Juniors), Tomoya Ogawa (Seniors), and Shohei Kimura (Masters) successfully defended their home turf, with the Japanese players claiming victory in convincing fashion.

Though the Rapid Strike Style of Urshifu is obviously the staple of the metagame, appearing in all six rosters of the finals, the MVP in the end was likely the diminutive Amoonguss. Armed with the dreaded 100% sleep chance of Spore, the menacing mushroom imposed its will — most notably in the Masters Division, where its infuriating defensive play style had the opponent on the ropes early on.

The Most Played Baldur’s Gate 3 Origin Character Has One of the Highest Causes of Death

8 months 2 weeks ago

The statistics for BG3’s opening weekend feature a ton of surprising results, from the top choice of the Half-Elf race to the considerable amount of hours spent in character creation. However, one of the most unexpected outcomes is the data for the most-played Origin individual, which is none other than your favorite Human, Gale.

Although many players have chosen to go with a customized Tav, Gale reigns supreme, with 27,784 users selecting his avatar during the launch. This top spot isn’t the only title the character has gained, as Larian Studios indicates his position as the seventh-highest cause of death.

Moving Out 2 Review – A Few Broken Boxes

8 months 2 weeks ago

Moving Out 2 on Xbox Series X

Moving Out 2 is the kind of game that I really should enjoy. I loved engaging in the culinary chaos of Overcooked and its sequel with my partner, as annoyed bickering turned into strategic streamlining of our coordinated cooking. At times, Moving Out 2 managed to scratch that itch, but in other levels, we just found it leaned towards being more frustrating than fun.

It’s a fine line that these kinds of games have to walk. The whole appeal of them comes from the clever level designs that push you towards a more chaotic multiplayer affair that’s best experienced with friends and loved ones on the couch next to you. But there’s something about Moving Out’s focus on furniture moving that just didn’t quite jive with me in the same regular cadence that Team 17’s other title did.

Illari Shines Bright & Null Sector Brings Chaos to the World in Overwatch 2 Season 6 Invasion (Hands-On Impressions)

8 months 2 weeks ago

Recently, I was given the opportunity to jump into the early access build of Overwatch 2 Season 6 and attend a presentation and interview hosted by the Overwatch devs. Season 6 is titled Invasion, and is the biggest content drop in the history of Overwatch 2, bringing PVE story missions, a brand new Support hero, a new game mode, limited-time game modes, new maps, the Hero Mastery and progression system, and much more to look forward to.

I’ve been a dedicated player of Overwatch for a few years now, and I’ve seen the game through the numerous highs and lows. However, if there’s one thing I’m certain of, it’s that Season 6 will be a lot of fun, and will have something for all players to enjoy.

WrestleQuest on PC

For those well-versed in the world of professional wrestling, chances are you’ve seen both the wonder it’s capable of creating and the ugliness that’s left many scarred. With all of the information we have available to us, let alone the fact that there is a multi-season documentary series entitled Dark Side of the Ring, it’s easy to get lost in the darkness. Perhaps the loveliest aspect of WrestleQuest, though, is its dedication to the goofiness of it all.

Players are thrown into the fire almost immediately, training for matches while improving their skills on the microphone. There are countless side quests to occupy one’s time, yet this never stops reminding you what professional wrestling is about. Good battling evil; the babyface looking to defeat the heel.

Pokemon Sleep Gave Me a Shiny I’ll Never Be Able to Catch & I’m Dead Inside

8 months 3 weeks ago

I’m neither the most talented nor the luckiest shiny hunter when it comes to collecting these in-game rarities, but I’ve always enjoyed the unique color palettes of shiny Pokémon and how badass or horrifying they can make a beloved species look. Because of this, I was naturally excited to see that shiny Pokémon were included within Pokémon Sleep, knowing that there was a slim chance one may someday appear during my slumber.

The shiny odds in Pokémon Sleep are lower than the mainline games, much like Pokémon GO. However, If my Pokémon GO days were any indicator, I knew not to expect anything, and to presume that I wouldn’t come across one of those sparkly critters for a very long time, possibly for as long as I manage to hold interest in the game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Looks to Embody My D&D Dreams, But I Hope My Chaos Can Still Shine Through

8 months 3 weeks ago

No matter what alignment you choose, Dungeons & Dragons is almost always going to be a chaotic game. When you sit too many like-minded individuals at a table for a few hours at a time, there’s bound to be some sort of mayhem that wasn’t in the session notes. Baldur’s Gate 3 is nearing its official release on PC and PS5, but as the date nears, I find myself wondering if the digital rendition of D&D is going to hold up to my personal level of chaos, or if I’m gonna have to begrudgingly adapt to Larian’s house rules.

As excited as I am, there’s a couple of reasons that I’m somewhat skeptical of the way the game’s gonna play. When it comes to D&D, there’s a certain amount of flexibility that comes to be expected among players, regarding not only their actions during their turn, but their interactions with the world around them. After all, players are solely using their imagination to create this world. On top of that, interacting with NPCs can go any direction imaginable depending on the DM for your real campaign, so how will that be reflected with pre-recorded voice lines in Baldur’s Gate?

After I rolled credits on the first three episodes of The Expanse: A Telltale series, it hit me that this isn’t the same kind of experience Telltale Games was once known for.

To be sure, all of the usual elements are there. The episodes had choices that impacted the outcome of a longform narrative, and brief gameplay segments broke up the dialogue dumps to keep the experience breezy. There were even some scant moments where it was unclear what the best course of action would be, and I had to step away in order to weigh the consequences of what I could do.
