PS5 UI Revealed With Stunning New Changes

3 years 6 months ago

Just one day after Microsoft dropped a new update for Xbox One's UI, Sony has finally revealed our first look at the PS5 UI and it is sleek!

In an early morning reveal, Sony showed off our first look at a much more polished UI system for the PS5 as well as a look at the actual user experience itself. Some features shown off is the ability to press the PS button to head into the Control Center where players can track trophies and get more information about their favorite games.

Sony also revamped sharing a bit with the new Share Screen feature that allows friends to stream their gameplay with one another in a shared experience. PS5 players will also be able to pin their stream to the game portion of the UI, making it easier to track.

All captured video and screenshots are automatically captured in 4K and, like the Xbox Series X, loading times between games is incredibly fast. Digital Foundry states that the average loading time between titles is about eight seconds.

PS5 Will Allow Players To Record And Report Toxic Voice Chat

3 years 6 months ago

The PlayStation 5 will allow players to record in-game voice chat and report any toxic behavior straight to Sony, the company revealed via the new PlayStation 4 8.0 update. As PS5 and PS4 players will be able to share parties, this can affect people playing on both consoles, though it doesn't appear the PlayStation 4 will be getting a similar feature. The feature will be available for PlayStation 5 at launch, Sony said.

As Eurogamer points out, the reveal of this new feature led some people to believe that it meant Sony would be listening in on in-game voice chats. Responding to concern, Sony issued a statement saying, "Voice chat recording for moderation is a feature that will be available on PS5 when it launches, and will enable users to record their voice chats on PS5 and submit them for moderation review." Additionally, responding to someone on Twitter, Sony UK added, "The notification advises you that other users may be recording your voice conversation. We do no record party chats." The original tweet has since been deleted, so it's unclear what the poster was saying or asking.

Xbox Series X Preview – Leaving Current-Gen In The Dust

3 years 6 months ago

Xbox Series X

If you read my initial impressions on Xbox Series X, you know that even spending a small amount of time with the next-generation Xbox console sold me on upgrading through its speed alone. The effortless and efficient nature in which it loads my Xbox One, Xbox 360, and original Xbox games amazes me to this day, and puts my Xbox One X, the current most-powerful gaming console on the market, to shame. Now that I've spent more time with the system, and checked out some actual next-gen content on the console, I wanted to give a brief update on my experience.

The answer: by keeping the Xbox Series X controller largely the same. But that doesn't mean next-gen adopters are getting a simple rehash.

Looking Back At P.T., Kojima's Silent Hill Game That Never Was

3 years 6 months ago

By design, P.T. was supposed to be a mystery. Announced at Gamescom 2014 during PlayStation's press conference, the "playable teaser" from the not-actually-real developer 7780s Studio dropped on the PlayStation Store for free to little fanfare initially; a scary little oddity people downloaded out of curiosity. The twist however was that P.T. was something much more than a new game from an unheard-of studio — it was the reveal of a brand-new Silent Hill game called Silent Hills. And it was being made by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro and starred Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus. Over time, legendary horror manga author Junji Ito would be attached to the project.

And then the game was canceled, a victim of the very-public breakup between Kojima and his longtime employer, Konami. Barely an hour long, it's since been called one of the scariest games of all time, despite not much being known about Silent Hills beyond the teaser, which Konami actually pulled from the PlayStation Store, making it inaccessible to anyone that didn’t already download it.

In a twist of fate, the biggest mystery surrounding P.T. was no longer the secret reveal it contained. The biggest mystery became what exactly Silent Hills was.

Details on Silent Hills, its development, and cancellation have come out over the past five years, but they've been pretty minimal and spread out all over the place. While we unfortunately have no new information to report on the game, we wanted to look back at P.T. in the spirit of Halloween to examine what we know about the game and why it was canceled.

Baldur's Gate 3 Save Issues Fixed Following Recent Patch Update

3 years 6 months ago

Baldur's Gate 3 is in Early Access now and Larian Studios has been very transparent that the game will be buggy as they mass test it. That being said, the studio has launched several major patches to work towards a full launch. Unfortunately, the latest update had a few hiccups regarding saves.

The good news is that the save issue seems to be resolved thanks to a rollback. The latest update began to offer more bug fixes and gameplay tweaks. Following its deployment, players began reporting that they could no longer access their saves. Larian quickly took note and rolled back their most latest update to a previous build, allowing for D&D fans to pick right back up where they left off.

Super Smash Bros. Hyrule Stage Recreated In Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2

3 years 6 months ago

Legend of Zelda, Super Smash Bros. and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater are wildly different franchises, but each is iconic in its own right. Now the worlds are colliding in a pretty epic fan-made level that pretty accurately recreates the Super Smash Bros. Hyrule stage within Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2.

The level creator is nothing short of amazing, but it is not without limitations. Those limitations in mind, this Tony Hawk fan did an incredible job at staying faithful to the Hyrule Stage while still able to shred it up in perfect form.

Click here to watch embedded media

As one Restera user pointed out, the creator did a phenomenal job at making sure to scale the map accordingly, versus focusing on going vertical and losing the functionality of the park itself.

The creator in question is 'Skyramblez' on YouTube and he made this on the PC version of the game. For those that want to shred to their heart's content, you can find this particular creation by searching "Hyrule Temple" in the Create a Park browser.

Sound Like An Orc With The New Yeti World Of Warcraft Mic Voice And Voice Settings

3 years 6 months ago

Ever wanted to sound like an orc? Don't let those dreams be dreams, kids, because the new Blue Yeti World of Warcraft mic allows gamers to do just that. The special edition Yeti X mic is a collaborative effort to celebrate the release of Shadowlands, the MMORPG's latest expansion, and it does more than just look cool.

The mic itself is a slate gray with a gold overlay and it offers a few different audio samples from World of Warcraft: Shadowlands as well as some voice special effects to sound like various races in-game. Want to sound like an orc? Do it! Imp more your style? Weird, but alright! These sound effects are available for mic users to utilize to have a little more fun with their voice work when using the new mic.

As for the Yeti X mic itself, it's another USB setup that is aimed towards streamers and similar content creators. It utilizes a newly designed four-capsule condenser as well as a promise for a more clarifying sound experience due to the four pickup patterns. It's pretty standard tech when you start getting into higher-scaled microphones, and Yeti was a pioneer when it came to being the go-to setup for YouTubers and influencers alike.

Few comic characters have the opportunity to break as big as Miles Morales. Peter Parker the Spectacular Spider-Man is one of the biggest characters in pop culture, so there was a real chance the Miles would get overshadowed by Peter’s lasting legacy. However, if you’re still relatively unfamiliar with Miles, we put together this handy overview. Here is everything you need to know about Miles Morales before playing Insomniac's upcoming open-world superhero romp.

Visual Concepts Talks NBA 2K21 Movement And Contact For New-Gen

3 years 6 months ago

Visual Concepts has released its Courtside Report #2 for NBA 2K1, providing more details on movement, contact, and how the PS5 controller provides a whole new dimension to gameplay.

First up is dribbling and movement, which is brand-new for the new-gen consoles.  While signature dribbles return, everything else was scrapped and significant work was spent on improving the predictability and consistency of every dribble.  You can go where you want, in the way that you'd expect to.  No more unexpected turns, boosts, or cuts.

Defensive movement has also been improved, with better pathing and a distinct lack of sliding around the court like previous entries. Players move more uniquely based on their size and the movement is smoother and less jerky.  On top of this, movement interaction between the defender and ball carrier has been improved, with fewer preset interactions and a more realistic feel when you're defending.

The other biggest change to movement is called the Impact Engine, which handles contact while in the air – meaning that players will no longer warp or slide to get to a particular position. Contact on the ground has also been enhanced, particularly in realism surrounding drawing – and committing – fouls like charging.

It's time for a new season of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, which means a new map to explore and even more ways to bring that competitive spirit. PUBG season 9 brings with it a new 3x3 map, a new Ranked Season, and a brand new Survivor Pass. It's time to dine on a fine poultry feast, because here's what season 9 is bringing to fans later this month.

First up: Paramo. Paramo is the new 3x3 map that brings a dynamic new experience to the Battlegorounds. The studio tells Game Informer, "Paramo includes a dynamic world system that changes major landmarks between matches, making every trip a unique experience where survivors must adapt their tactics. Several streams of molten lava will also flow across the map from a nearby volcano, giving survivors a unique obstacle as they traverse the battleground. Stepping or riding a vehicle through the lava can lead to a quick death."

PC Players Can Now Reduce Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare's Overall Size

3 years 6 months ago

While it won't make the actual file size of any of the game modes any smaller, people playing on PC will now have the ability to choose which parts of Modern Warfare they wish to have installed or uninstalled at any given time. For example, if you just want to play Warzone and nothing else, you can uninstall the game's campaign, Spec-Ops Mode, or multiplayer. This feature has been available for players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for several months now.

Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access Saves Won't Transfer Over At Launch

3 years 6 months ago

Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access is live on PC and we've been having way more fun that we thought we would trying to get gross parasites out of our heads. With a good 25-30+ hours of game time to enjoy with Act I, many have been wondering if their created characters and journey would carry over into the full launch of the game. The answer is both good and bad news.

Baldur's Gate Early Access saves will not transfer over, despite a few conflicting reports stating that it's not confirmed. When we reached out to PR about confirmation about save transfers, we were told specifically that "Early Access saves will not transfer over when the game fully launches at a future date." This answer is also reflected in the recently updated FAQ portion of the game's Steam page as well.

How To Get Into the Ever-Growing Yakuza Series

It's never been a better time to be a Yakuza fan – if only due to the sheer amount of Yakuza games there are. Across the mainline series, prequels, remakes, and spin-offs, developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has released 15 Yakuza games since 2005. But with that kind of output, it can be a little confusing to know where to start and in what order you should play the games (spoiler: not in release order or chronological order!). Everything You Need To Know About Assassin's Creed Valhalla

3 years 6 months ago

The Assassin’s Creed games are huge, in terms of both popularity and scope. Ubisoft’s hit franchise uses a mixture of history and fiction to create immersive worlds, all supported by diverse gameplay and interlocking systems. Like its predecessors, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is ambitious; it is an exciting dive into the lives of the Vikings, defining the iconic historical figures through war, peace, and exploration. That’s a lot of ground to cover, so we spoke to producer Julien Laferrière and narrative director Darby McDevitt to break down this massive experience and set the stage for Valhalla’s release.

Shedding The Stereotype

Players control Eivor, a Viking hero who can be either male or female. After a prologue set in Norway, Eivor’s clan leaves their homeland to settle in England. Though Vikings are often remembered for raiding and looting, Valhalla aims to go beyond the mainstream stereotype and examine the more human stories behind the Vikings’ expansion.

Overwatch's Halloween Terror Skins Are Awesome This Year

3 years 6 months ago

Overwatch's best event (at least when it comes to skins) is Halloween Terror, and it's back! If you boot up Overwatch between now and November 3, you can once again take on challenge missions in Junkenstein's Revenge, and unlock Halloween-themed skins along the way.

This year, Junkenstein's Revenge is divided into three weeks of missions. Week one's event is called "Vengeful Ghost, Fenzied Stampede," and true to the name, players are chased by a ghost with Zomnics that move faster. Week two's event is "Volatile Zomnics, Three They Were," which is a three-player co-op experience with exploding Zomnics. The final event is "Mystery Swamp, Shocking Surprise," with some enemies spawning shock tires on death, and heroes changing at random.

Running in parallel with the co-op mode, Blizzard is also introducing three Weekly Challenges that push players to net nine wins in each week to unlock unique skins. Week one's skin is Fantasma Sombra, next up is Stone Brigitte, and the last one is Ragdoll Echo (which I think is the best of this year's Halloween skins).

The Halloween festivities are rounded out with five other legendary skins that players can unlock in crates and with gold. The skins are Karasu-Tengu Genji, Dai-Tengu Hanzo, Werewolf Winston, Flying Dutchman Sigma, and Shin-Ryeong D.Va. You can see all of them in the gallery below.

Are you still playing Overwatch frequently? Do events like Halloween Terror bring you back into the fold? Let us know in the comments section below!

Axiom Verge 2 Delayed To 2021

3 years 6 months ago

Last year, indie developer Thomas Happ announced Axiom Verge 2, and gave it a vague release window of "fall 2020." However, since it is now fall 2020, an update seems to be in order – something that Happ provided today via this post on the Axiom Verge 2 site. The bad news? The game is delayed to the first half of 2021. The good news? It still looks like an intriguing follow-up to the 2015 original.

"I had my concerns about whether people would even care at all about a sequel coming 5 years after the release of the original," Happ writes. "Although it’s taking longer than I originally hoped, I am going to do my best to make sure it’s worth the wait."

Click here to watch embedded media

In the post, Happ explains some of the reasons for the delay. Of course, the global pandemic plays a role, but so does Axiom Verge 2's heightened ambitions compared to its predecessor. This includes more intelligent enemies and less blocky environments, among other features Happ has elected not to spoil.

"What is the Underground planning," the latest Daily Bugle asks, and if that's not the million dollar question ...

Join us for a deep dive into Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a sequel that cranks the superhero action up a notch, and gives us an intimate look at the life of another wall crawler who is in way over his head in crime fighting, relationships, and getting to know his new home. Developer Insomniac Games gave us a lengthy tour of Spider-Man: Miles Morales running on PlayStation 5, and we were blown away by just how ambitious of a follow-up it is, both in how explosive the action is right out of the gates and how much care went into developing Miles as a new Spider-Man.

Our story runs across 15 pages, and offers exclusive details for the opening moments of the game, Miles' powers, the open world, unlockable suits, the new skill tree, and so much more. We spent a day talking to the development team about what makes this sequel different, and what players can expect from it on both PlayStation 4 and 5. In addition to our cover story, which hits digital today and mailboxes soon, we will have a full month of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales coverage online, complete with exclusive videos, screenshots, and developer interviews.

When we did the cover story for Marvel's Spider-Man, Alex Ross created a new image of Peter Parker soaring across New York City. Miles Morales is getting the same treatment, and it comes from an artist who helped bring him to life in comic books. The great Sara Pichelli created exclusive artwork for Game Informer's cover that gives you a look at Miles, and his new neighborhood in Harlem.

Microsoft Clarifies Xbox Series S Backwards Compatibility Performance Details

For those opting into the Xbox Series S system with its all-digital setup, there are a few things Microsoft wanted to clarify about the more affordable console's performance.

While most of what is being talked about isn't new, there still seems to be confusion regarding the differences between the two Series platforms and the differences between PlayStation 5's backwards compatibility.

Xbox Game Pass: Here's What's Coming And Leaving This October

3 years 6 months ago

Xbox Game Pass is a constantly rotating library of free games that players can enjoy at no additional cost outside of the membership price. This includes day one first-party titles, DLC, and more. Now that we're in the thick of October, the Xbox Game Pass is adding a few new titles to its library, with a few on their way out to make room.

With Doom Eternal having been added on October 1, there are a few other titles to enjoy additionally. Whether you like strategy with Age of Empires or you want to try out the neo-noir experience found in Katana Zero, there is something for everyone with the Game Pass subscription.
