Bugsnax Impressive Cast Includes Marvel's Spider-Man's Yuri Lowenthal

3 years 6 months ago

Now that Bugsnax has officially gone gold and is confirmed to be a PlayStation 5 launch title, it's time to meet the cast behind the creepily adorable (and slightly cannibalistic) creatures.

While the full cast has not been revealed, we do have confirmation that Marvel's Spider-Man's Yuri Lowenthal will be included among the talent bringing this adventure to life. Sonic the Hedgehog's Roger Craig Smith, One-Punch Man's Max Mittelman, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order's Debra Wilson are also lending their talent.

Bugsnax Goes Gold, PS5 Launch Title

3 years 6 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

The adorably off-putting Bugsnax game (that we're still convinced is secretly a horror game) has officially gone gold and what better way to celebrate than with a release date!

Bugsnax is releasing on November 12 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC through the Epic Games Store. That means that this is also a PS5 launch title for those that got their next gen system preorders in.

When Bugsnax was first revealed, it looked wholesome, if not creepy for its cannibalistic nature. Its upbeat themesong that will make you want to drive a spike through your head because you've accidentally listened to it a million times on repeat also added to the game's charm. That being said, the longer we looked at the first reveal, the more something felt off. The conspiracy of it being a horror game began to form.

Later, the team revealed the actual story of the game and yup; definite potential to be a horror adventure. According to the game's official synopsis:

Bugsnax takes you on a whimsical adventure to Snaktooth Island, home of the legendary half-bug half-snack creatures, Bugsnax. Invited by intrepid explorer Elizabert Megafig, you arrive to discover your host nowhere to be found, her camp in shambles, and her followers scattered across the island alone... and hungry!

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla And Reebok Are Teaming Up For A New Shoe Line

3 years 6 months ago

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is launching soon and while we can kick butt in-game as a Viking, it looks like Ubisoft wants fans to kick butt in real life too. Ubisoft and Reebok are teaming up for an Assassin's Creed: Valhalla shoe line, as teased on social media.

We don't have a look at the shoe line quite yet, or if it will extend beyond footwear, but that didn't stop the team from announcing an announcement that is "coming soon."

No Star Wars: Squadrons Post-Launch DLC, "You've Paid The $40"

3 years 6 months ago

Star Wars: Squadrons has been met with overall positive feedback since launch, as noted in our full review earlier this month. The multiplayer and single-play components alike both offer fertile ground for new DLC, but it looks like the team at EA Motive doesn't have any post-launch content in the works.

When speaking with UploadVR, creative director Ian Frazier mentioned specifically that they didn't approach Squadrons as a live-service game. "Never say never, so to speak, but as far as our philosophy goes, we're not trying to treat the game as a live service [title]."

Frazier added, "We don't want to say 'it's almost done' and then dribble out more of it over time, which to be honest is how most games work these days. So we've tried to treat it in kind of an old-school approach saying 'You've paid the $40, this is the game and it's entirely self-contained. We're not planning to add more content, this is the game, as we hope you understand the value proposition."

Star Wars: Squadrons is set after the events in Return of the Jedi and the second iteration of the Death Star has gone kaput. With the Empire and Rebel forces once more at each other's throats, Squadrons gives players a chance to feel like a real pilot in a galaxy far, far away.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Announced, Free PS5 And Xbox Series X/S Upgrades

3 years 6 months ago

Following the confirmation that Mileena, Rambo, and Rain are joining the Mortal Kombat 11 roster, NetherRealm also revealed Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate and some good news regarding next gen.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate includes everything that has launched for the fighting title since launch, including the newly revealed DLC fighters with the Kombat Pack 2. Mortal Kombat 11, Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, Kombat Packs 1 and 2 are included in that bundle, all available for $59.99.

For those interested in the 'Ultimate' experience, Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate arrives on November 17 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia. Don't want to nab anything extra? No worries, NetherRealm also confirmed that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will see a free digital upgrade to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S systems.

For those that do purchase Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate, the studio also revealed its "krossplay" capabilities for specific modes. PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One players can all duke it out together, though nothing in the press release sent to Game Informer mentions anything about that extending to PC and Nintendo Switch players.

Mortal Kombat 11 Adds Mileena, Rambo, And Rain In New Kombat Pack

3 years 6 months ago

The leaks were true! Mileena, Rambo, and Rain are all joining the fight as part of the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11 DLC pack. Rambo has been leaked numerous times over the past year, but Mileena is where the community has been the most vocal.

NetherRealm and Warner Bors. Interactive Entertainment revealed the new additions today alongside the Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate edition, that includes all DLC and the three new fighters.

Click here to watch embedded media

NetherRealm has been incredible when it comes to adding new fighters to the Mortal Kombat 11 roster, including characters we'd never see within the ring. With Joker, Spawn, and Robocop joining Sindel, Sheeva, Fujin, Shang Tsung, and Nightwolf as DLC fighters, the roster has never looked better. Even more so that previous character deaths pretty much mean nothing when the entire premise of the story is time manipulation.

In the reveal thread on Twitter, it seems like many are thinking this is the last DLC for the fighting game, but that hasn't been confirmed anywhere official and there are still a few names missing as characters.

Baldur's Gate 3's Campfire Feature Will Feel Like Coming Home For Dragon Age: Origins Fans

3 years 6 months ago

Baldur's Gate 3 is now out in Early Access and RPG fans are diving right in. Whether you're a CRPG fan or a newcomer to the world of Dungeons & Dragons, the character creation and the story appeals on a mass level. One aspect of the latest D&D adventure that I'm wholly in love with, however, is a feature that made Dragon Age: Origins so deeply personal – a good 'ol fashioned campfire.

In Origins, players could interact with all of their companions, without being restricted by the party number limitation. This helped players develop friendships and romantic relationships with the various companions, and allowed fans to deeply immerse themselves in the daily lives of Thedas residents. The campfires in Baldur's Gate 3 work in a similar fashion, and it's here that I find myself anxious to get back to.

Every day this week, Netflix has shared new images for The Witcher season two. Monday brought our first look at Geralt's new armor with Tuesday ringing in that Ciri love. Now we've got our first look at Yennefer's return from the Battle of Sodden.

The latest look comes by way of the official The Witcher Netflix account and it shows off a Yennefer that has definitely seen better days:

Season two will see Ciri and Geralt return to his childhood home, Kaer Morhen, where he trained as a witcher growing up. Believing that Yennefer died during the Battle of Sodden, Geralt seeks safety for the young Ciri in a place that he trusts.

Netflix supplied the new season's official synopsis earlier this week, saying:

Why You Should Buy PS5 And Xbox Series X/S

3 years 6 months ago

The launch of new consoles is always exciting. Not only does new hardware feel great to connect to your TV for the first time, but it also unlocks the potential for the games we'll collectively experience over the next several years. With the new hardware just over the horizon, I reached out to both PlayStation and Xbox to hear their cases for why upgrading to next-gen hardware is worth the investment.

For many, when the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S release the second week of November, it will mark the dawn of a new era of gaming. However, plenty of others will be sticking with their existing systems for various reasons. With so few next-gen exclusive titles across the two platforms, many are content to hold off on upgrading. Xbox has said that its first-party titles will continue to release on both Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One in the near future, and on the PlayStation side, big titles like Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Horizon Forbidden West have been confirmed to release on PlayStation 4 as well.

Every Baldur's Gate 3 Companion (So Far)

3 years 6 months ago

Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available now on Steam as an Early Access title and even though it's just the first act of the game (about 25-30 hours worth of gametime), it's enough to get to know some of the droolworthy companions. While no one can clearly compare to our sassy Astarion, here is every Baldur's Gate 3 companion so far!

Astarion | Rogue

Astarion is sassy and is probably my favorite companion so far. You'll be able to meet him after meeting Shadowheart as he hides from a monster. Take him down, and this cheeky vampire will be able to join your party.

He's very flirty and being a rogue is a very valuable party member to have. He's sneaky, he strong, and he's great when wanting a tactical advantage. He's also very charming with that charisma, so if you need to sweet talk your way out of a pickle, he's your man. Vampire. Whatever.

New Destiny 2: Beyond Light Trailer Shows Off Impressive New Exotics

3 years 6 months ago

Only one more month to go before Guardians can dive right into Destiny 2: Beyond Light, but while we wait Bungie has shared a new trailer detailing some impressive new exotics on the way.

The latest trailer, seen below, cycles through the new gear that players can look forward to, but what was most impressive was the new exotics shown. A big focus of feedback since launch is that 'new' gear coming into the Destiny sequel was recycled. Out of everything shown regarding this top-tier loot, most of it was new, though there is one returning drop and a nifty new redesign.

Changes Are Coming To PlayStation Trophies Today

3 years 6 months ago

Players are always looking to rack up achievements and nail all the trophies in their favorite games. Well, PlayStation announced today that changes are coming to the trophy system, and players can expect to start seeing these changes as early as tonight. Don't worry, you'll still be able to platinum Bloodborne. Trophies you have earned on other PlayStation systems will carry over to the PlayStation 5 as well.

First, the trophy level just got bigger. A lot bigger. Instead of going 1-100, trophy level is slated to expand from 1-999. We're not quite at Final Fantasy levels of 9999 yet, but who knows what the future holds. If you've acquired a ton of points on your way to 100, don't worry — your points will scale to reflect the new system. So if you had 10 points, expect it to translate into the hundreds somewhere.

The calculation structure has also changed, designed to help players advance more quickly during the earlier tiers. Platinum trophies are also worth more than ever, so it might entice you to go back and finish off some of those more difficult achievements.

You can read more about the shifting structure over on the official PlayStation blog. Go get those trophies!

Watch This Video Completely Tear A PS5 Apart, For Science

3 years 6 months ago

There is no denying that the PlayStation 5 is a thicc boy, but what does the new generation look like on the inside? Now we don't have to wonder any longer, because a new video by VP of mechanical design at Sony, Yasuhiro Ootori, is taking the PS5 console apart bit by bit.

The Sony designer talks about the differences seen in the PlayStation 5 system in relation to the current generation, showing off the vast improvements seen in the hardware that make performance smoother and much quieter. Given all of the memes and jokes about how loud the PlayStation 4 systems can get sometimes, that last part is a nice touch:

Vertical, horizontal, it's up to you how you want to display this behemoth, but putting it horizontal is needed to detach the base of the console for dissection glory. Ootori also reveals the exhaust port and the system's ventilation system, keeping the PS5 from overheating and making any unneeded sounds.

After removing the side panels and the impressive cooling fan, Ootori also shows off the vacuum ports and the air intake mechanisms that keep the insides clean. He also shows off the metal sheet case that is layered to prevent unnecessary noise as well.

The Gameplay Improvements And Changes Coming To NBA 2K21 On New-Gen Consoles

3 years 6 months ago

Yesterday, Visual Concepts made a splash with its new gameplay trailer for NBA 2K21,  showcasing the graphical power of the new consoles. The new-gen version was built from the ground up to leverage the power of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. After putting the realistic player models and dribbling moves on display, Visual Concepts is finally talking about what to expect in terms of fundamental changes and improvements to the core gameplay for the new-gen version.

"Many of the new mechanics and features that we're adding to the next-gen version of NBA 2K21 are only possible thanks to the extra horsepower afforded by the new consoles," writes gameplay director Mike Wang in the latest Courtside Report.

Wang called this version "our largest game yet" and "the biggest leap forward for the franchise." He then went into extensive detail on shooting, dribbling, and passing, saying the team has been able to further evolve the use of the pro-stick.

How To Win Any Argument About Next-Gen Consoles

3 years 6 months ago

This is my absolute favorite time of the console cycle: the time when everyone is talking about next-generation systems, but before anyone actually has them. This sweet spot means that lots of people have very strong opinions, but no solid hands-on facts to back them up – a magical combination that gives rise to countless online arguments.

If you get caught up in one of these “debates” (or if you actively seek them out like I do), you need the right syllogistic skills to score a win and leave your opponents humiliated and incorrect. All of these arguments basically go the exact same way when handled properly, so I’ve assembled the following responses that will help guide you to a decisive victory and all the internet accolades that entails.

Mass Effect Dungeons & Dragons Homebrew Relieves Remaster Anticipation And Turian Withdrawl

With all of the Mass Effect trilogy remaster hype and Baldur's Gate 3 bringing that Dungeons & Dragons love front and center once more, we wanted to take a moment to point our readers in the direction of a really awesome homebrew that blends the best of both worlds. The Mass Effect Dungeons & Dragons homebrew gives us back that turian booty and blueberry love while also providing a balm to our pain of no Mass Effect news.

This homebrew allows Mass Effect and Dungeons & Dragons fan live out their N7 fantasies within a world that is fully fleshed out in the 5e platform.

"The Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game is about storytelling in worlds of swords and sorcery and Mass Effect 5e takes that storytelling to the stars," reads the official description of this particular homebrew. "Both shares elements with childhood games of make-believe. Like those games, D&D is driven by imagination. It's about picturing the alien landscape beneath the two-sunned sky and imagining how an N7 soldier might react to the challenges that scene presents."

Astro's Playroom Comes Pre-installed on PS5, Takes Several Hours To Beat

Astro's Playroom

We enjoyed our time with PlayStation 4's Astro Bot Rescue Mission VR experience. It turns out that the next entry, Astro's Playroom, will be free and pre-installed on PlayStation 5. And that's not all – apparently, the upcoming platformer will take a few hours to beat.

According to a Famitsu interview, Astro's Playroom Creative Director Nicolas Doucet confirmed that the game would take "four to five hours to beat" and during this time there would be fun PlayStation references and homages that veterans of the console's extensive history would appreciate.

Astro's Playroom releases on November 12 alongside the PlayStation 5.

New Apex Legends Update Includes Crossplay Beta, Nerfs Wraith's Naruto Run

3 years 6 months ago

The Apex Legends crossplay beta is now live and while that's great for those that want to play cross-platform, it's bad news for those that were oddly attached to Wraith's Naruto run.

The crossplay feature has been a long time coming, but it's important to remember that this move is currently still in beta status. That being said, PC and console players alike can team up together for that ultimate win. Or, they can choose to stay in their own platform's pool; dealer's choice.

While this is great news, especially for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players, the downside is that the new update changed the way Wraith moves in-game. Is it a big deal? No, not really, but I'm not alone in feeling my little weeb heart die a little bit by the fact that the Naruto run is no longer available.

New Gameplay Today Live — Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate is perhaps one of the most revered CRPG series of all time, even if I think the older games don't really hold up well today. Today, Larian Studios has unveiled the Early Access portion of Baldur's Gate 3, their follow-up to the legendary Divinity: Original Sin II. I called Divinity: Original Sin II the " the true modern successor to the heralded Baldur’s Gate II," and now we've got an actual heir to the throne launching.

So... let's play it, yeah? That sounds like a great idea! Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available in Early Access on Steam, Stadia, and Mac, but we're hoping that like other Larian games, it will come to consoles later on down the line.

Join Daniel Tack and Liana Ruppert on this magical ride through Dungeons & Dragons at 2 PM CST. Assuming they can get past the character creator. Choosing characters is often the hardest boss of them all.

Resident Evil Movie Reboot Cast Revealed With Some Big Names Attached

3 years 6 months ago

The Resident Evil movie reboot will be an origin story adaptation and while it has been confirmed for awhile now, we're just now getting our first look at the star-studded cast.

Writer Director Johannes Roberts is working alongside Constantin Film to create this origin story adaptation, set in Racoon City back in 1998. The upcoming movie will be a "faithful" adaptation of the horror games Capcom fans have come to know and love, and our first look at the cast looks pretty impressive so far.

Deadline reveals that Mazer Runner's Kaya Scodelario is one of the actors confirmed, and she will be taking on the role of Claire Redfield. Other names attached include:

  • Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man) as Jill Valentine
  • Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield
  • Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Wesker
  • Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon Kennedy
  • Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin

“With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences," said the director to the publication.

18 Minutes Of Watch Dogs: Legion's Weird And Wild London

3 years 6 months ago

When London calls, you answer. Or, more specifically, when I'm given the opportunity to go hands on with Watch Dogs: Legion, I'm not about to pass it up. I recently got to play Ubisoft's upcoming open-world game again for about four hours. While I did complete the mission at hand, helping the citizens reclaim their civic pride by liberating Big Ben from Albion goons, I spent the bulk of the time doing what I like best about sandbox games: goofing off. In this video, you can see the fruits of that time. Sorry in advance.

I'm joined by Alex Stadnik and Liana Ruppert. While they weren't present as I explored the city, participating in underground boxing matches, smashing buses through traffic, and hypnotizing the populace (with lethal consequences), they ask all the important questions. "What is this?" and "Why" immediately come to mind.

Watch Dogs: Legion is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC on October 29. It's arriving on PlayStation 5 on November 12 and Xbox Series X/S on November 10.

Activision Blizzard Is Reportedly Closing Its France Office

3 years 6 months ago

The Versaille, France Blizzard office is reportedly closing its doors following a notice given to the employees by Activision this Tuesday morning. The office currently boasts a staff of approximately 400 employees.

In a report by Bloomberg, the France employees were notified of the shuttering this morning. The Versailles office's focus is marketing and customer support, with localization efforts targeted towards its European audience. It was also largely left as a primarily Blizzard studio with a focus on World of Warcraft and Diablo, up until a few years ago when Activision began to get more involved.

According to the publication, Activision Blizzard originally sought to reolcate half of the Versaille office to Longdon, but employees anonymously told journalist Jason Schreier that Brexit and the continuation of COVID-19 made that change virtually impossible.

Whether or not this shuttering will result in layoffs remains to be seen, though it sounds like Activision Blizzard is looking at relocation options. The bright side is that there are labor laws in place by the French government that protect employees in the wake of layoffs with negotiable severance packages.

Blair Witch Is Getting A New VR Experience Just In Time For Halloween

3 years 6 months ago

What is scarier than Blair Witch? Blair Witch in VR and the folks over at Bloober Team are all over it. Blair Witch: Oculus Quest Edition is a new way to experience this haunting tale and it's coming out just in time for Halloween.

Blair Witch: Oculus Quest Edition is a new version of the Blair Witch story from the polish studio Bloober Team. This experience was built from the ground up with virtual reality in mind with the help of the twisted minds behind Layers of Fear.

This story is heavily story-driven and aims to put players right in the shoes of the Blair Witch's next victim, experiencing first hand the fear that goes with knowing you're marked next.

When the Blair Witch first hit theaters, social media wasn't what it was today. The marketing of the film and the video camera style perspective had many viewers debating that this could actually be real. Obviously, it wasn't, but for that time? The marketing was perfect and the story was terrifying. Blair Witch instantly solidified itself as a cult classic and has spawned several sequels and Bloober's own game that launched last year.

Top Of The Table – Small World Of Warcraft

3 years 6 months ago

I suspect that Small World of Warcraft began its life with someone giggling about the way the two franchise names combined in an amusing way. But after that initial laugh, it must not have taken very long to realize that the popular Small World board game concept was an excellent match for the celebrated Blizzard video game. The resulting marriage has led to a tabletop game that should readily engage fans of the Warcraft universe, whether you’ve ever played the original Small World or not. Accessible rules and some gorgeous art on Small World of Warcraft’s plentiful components make this an easy choice for game night for you and your friends, especially if you're waiting impatiently for a certain expansion to arrive.

Netflix's The Witcher Season 2 Synopsis Reveals A Return To Kaer Morhen

3 years 6 months ago

Earlier today, we had our first look at Geralt's new armor in Netflix's The Witcher season two, now we've got the official synopsis for what the next step in the story will be.

Season two will, as expected, pick up where season one left off: the Battle of Sodden. It was during season one's finale that Geralt believed Yennefer died in the battle itself. Grieving yet determined, season two will take Geralt and Ciri back to his childhood home in Kaer Morhen where he was raised by Vesemir and trained among the other witchers.

Spoiler alert (but is it really?), Yennefer isn't actually dead, but Geralt doesn't know that. We're anticipating a spicy reunion between the two, but it wouldn't be The Witcher if it were all sunshine and roses.

According to the official synopsis, provided by Netflix:

Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.

Mod Corner: Fallout 4 Is Much Better When Ron Perlman Narrates Your Death

3 years 6 months ago

Fallout 4 wasn't a hit with everyone, but this game gave us Piper and Nick Valentine, so we're thankful. For those that are still on the fence about how they feel about the latest entry into the single-player branch of Fallout, maybe Ron Perlman's husky tones will be enough to persuade you.

For this week's Mod Corner, we're throwing it back to an older mod that I can't seem to quit no matter how hard I try. Every time I find myself booting up Fallout 4 (mostly because my character looks like Dorian Pavus from Dragon Age), this is always the first mod I make sure to toggle on.

Perlman narrated Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout Tactics, Fallout: New Vegas, and Fallout 4's trailers with that iconic "War, war never changes" line. He also does an official voice in Fallout 4 with the War Never Changes quest, but his dulceat tones deserve more screen time.

But what does it do?

The Ron Perlman Fallout 4 mod alters the death music in the game. If you die embarrassingly, don't fret. Just wait. Wait for the dramatic camera pan and you'll hear that deep Perlman voice narrate your untimely demise. It is suspenseful, it's glorious, and it is 100 percent totally unnecessary.

Fall Guys Follows Up 'Big Yeetus' With 'Thicc Bonkus' In Season 2

3 years 6 months ago

From the minds that gave us something called the Big Yeetus comes a new standard of beauty: Fall Guys Season 2 is getting Thicc Bonkus because of course it is.

Fall Guys is an adorably competitive jelly bean battle royale game with a special Mario Party flair, but another big reason why this title has exploded in popularity is because it just doesn't take itself too seriously. First there was the Big Yeetus, now there is a new obstacle on the way to smash those hopes and dreams: Thicc Bonkus.

So what is Thicc Bonkus other than a perfectly named gaming feature? Like the Big Yeetus, this obstacle course addition looks to continue on the trend of yeeting beans off into the sunset, but with adorably deceptive baby pinks spikes. Because aw, and also ow.

New Free Guy Trailer Reminds Us That NPCs Have Feelings Too

3 years 6 months ago

A new Free Guy trailer dropped earlier today that provides more backstory details. Ryan Reynolds is a bank teller named Guy that lives in an MMO. Everyday he wakes up, goes to work, dies from reckless, unfeeling players, and respawns in his bed. This is normal for our kind-hearted protagonist because he doesn't know that he's merely an NPC living in a video game! Everything changes when he falls in love with a human. Watch the trailer below for some hilarious action.

Free Guy is from the studio behind Deadpool and releases on December 11. Similarly, a live-action Yakuza movie was recently announced.
