Warframe Gets The Next-Gen Treatment On Xbox Series X And PlayStation 5

3 years 6 months ago

Warframe is making the jump to next-gen on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Next-gen versions of the free-to-play shooter can run in 4k resolution and 60 fps, with massively reduced load times.

Of course, if you're not making the switch to next-gen hardware right away, that's okay too — cross generation play is available, meaning it's totally fine to team up with PS4 squadmates on your PS5. While we reviewed Warframe all the way back in 2013, the game has changed dramatically since then and is almost unrecognizable from its past incarnation.

Over the years, the game has transitioned to embrace giant open-world areas along with many other game as a service trappings that incentivize players to come back for every content drop, big and small. Warframe certainly isn't the only free-to-play title to have undergone massive changes for the better since launch, check out online content director Joe Juba's thoughts on the current state of F2P titles in this piece here.

An Enhanced Renderer tunes up dynamic lighting options for Warframe, so things will look a lot prettier as you crawl through derelict ships or ravaged planetary galaxyscapes.

Life Is Strange Studio Has Six Games Currently In Development

3 years 6 months ago

DONTNOD, the studio behind Life is Strange, is keeping very busy as the next generation of gaming looms ahead. With Tell Me Why having been the most recent game from the team to make its debut, even more episodic adventures await because the DONTNOD CEO has confirmed that the team has a whopping six games currently in development.

DONTNOD's upcoming Twin Mirror game makes its debut this December, but there is more on the way. CEO Oska Guilbert confirmed future goals when talking about the previous success seen with the Life is Strange franchise, Remember Me, and Vampyr.

While the CEO didn't detail what those mysterious new games will have to offer, he does promise that each adventure will be increasingly varied from the studio's previous library as to "not put all our eggs in one basket."

This team's ability to craft an incredible narrative in an episodic way is reminiscent of how Telltale Games approaches gameplay. Its unique style towards creating intriguing characters interwoven within an intricate storyline is impressive, and the team sure isn't afraid to pull on those feels either (looking at you, Life is Strange).

Check Out The Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Be Yourself Trailer

3 years 6 months ago

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales arrives on November 12, and today there's a new trailer out to get you ready for all the web-slinging action. While Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a big title for the PlayStation 5 launch, it's also available on PlayStation 4. Miles Morales is a decidedly popular take on the wall crawler. Where did he come from, anyway?

"Miles debuted in Marvel’s Ultimate line of comics, which was an alternate reality version of Marvel’s main continuity. In that version of the Marvel Universe, Peter Parker had just died and Miles was positioned to take over the mantel of Spider-Man. Miles' critical reception was largely positive and fan enthusiasm for the new character was huge. In fact, Miles proved to be so popular that when Marvel ended the Ultimate imprint in 2015, and killed off that entire universe, it spared Miles and transferred him over to mainline Marvel continuity, where he has settled in as an important member of the Spider-Man family," read more in Benjamin Reeve's tell-all on Miles here.

Game Informer's Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales cover story is available to read online for free, so give it a look for a ton of information regarding the upcoming adventure here.

Destiny 2 Recreated In Minecraft Is Honestly Just Really Cool

3 years 6 months ago

Minecraft is one of those games that absolutely inspires the best in all of us in terms of creativity. Through the years, we've seen so many amazing crossovers in Minecraft due to creative and dedicated players and with Beyond Light just around the corner for Destiny 2, this Tower homage is just too perfect not to share.

Courtesy of YouTuber 'EetzJosh, we've got an interesting take on Destiny 2's social space with a complete Tower walkthrough. Given the limitations of Minecraft and its particular art style, the Tower isn't an exact replica but that doesn't mean it's any less impressive:

The Minecraft craftsman even faithfully recreated the secret route to get into Zavala's office, a location that many Destiny 2 players became familiar with due to a particular Exotic questline. They even added a picture of Cayde-6, because we're still not ready to accept that he's really gone.

Future Among Us Content Plans Revealed

3 years 6 months ago

Red may be sus but the new content plans for Among Us are pretty awesome. The indie title that released two years ago has seen a massive surge in popularity over the past month thanks to streamers and the impact of Fall Guys from Mediatonic. In response to that rapid (and random) success, the team over at InnerSloth has decided to abandon Among Us 2 plans so that they can focus on improving the game currently out. In a recent blog update, the studio has confirmed what some of those plans look like.

In its latest blog post, InnerSloth first addressed the hacking elephant in the room, saying: "Firstly, we want to be sure to talk about the cheating and hacking going on. It was pretty bad there for a bit, so Forte pushed out server changes really fast. They seemed to help a lot, but some cheats still work and now there are bugs too. There will be more server updates to fix all of this, but rushing anti-hacks is what caused the bugs, so cleaning things up is a slower process. Also rest assured that any threats made in the game are false and your devices and data are safe. If you see a hacker, ban them or find a different room."

A new update has been deployed adding an anonymous voting option that makes all jelly bean astronauts appear greyed out during Emergency Meetings. This allows people to vote for who they want without the repercussions, adding a new layer of intrigue to this deceptive game.

Bethesda Is Interested In More Multiplayer Games After Fallout 76, But Its Approach Needs To Change

3 years 6 months ago

To say that the Fallout 76 launch and the subsequent year was messy would be a massive understatement. While not the company's first multiplayer game, it was a first for the Fallout franchise. After numerous changes and a major overhaul, the Fallout 76 community is active and the overall reception has been positive. Director Todd Howard said recently that despite the long road to get to that point, the experience has been a good one and that the studio is looking into exploring even more multiplayer options.

During the recent Developer: Brighton Conference with GameIndustry.biz, Howard revealed that the team knows they made some colossal mistakes when marketing Fallout 76 and with the launch itself. Given how much the public opinion has shifted in a positive light for the game shows that the team has learned from those mistakes, but will that stop them from making similar missteps in the future? According to Howard, the way to avoid that is to completely change their approach to multiplayer as to avoid another Fallout 76 debacle.

Star Renegades Is Coming To Console On November 19

3 years 6 months ago

Roguelike sci-fi tactical RPG Star Renegades is coming to consoles soon. You can pick it up on Xbox One and Switch on November 19, or PlayStation 4 on November 25. I reviewed the game when it hit PC, and enjoyed it quite a bit, especially the art style. Check out the full review here.

If you're curious as to how it plays, it's a roguelike with a dimension-hopping conceit where you have to time your abilities in sequence in order to interrupt opponents, land critical hits, and stay alive. While you can make it through some of the regular battles without embracing the mechanics, bosses will tear you apart unless you master the time line. There are some unlocks like new characters you can take with you from run to run but it leans closer to a traditional roguelike than a progression-based roguelite. Check out the spiffy new trailer below!

NBA 2K21 Introduces The City, A New Multiplayer Experience For New-Gen Consoles

With the imminent launch of NBA 2K21 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, Visual Concepts and 2K Games hasn't held back on the reveals, providing insight into the improved gameplay, enhanced A.I., and new WNBA experience "The W."  Visual Concepts didn't stop there with the upgrades, pulling back the curtain today on "The City," which is the largest multiplayer environment in 2K History.

The City is an evolution from The Neighborhood, which fans will remember was preceded by The Park, but the goal has always been the same: To bring together a virtual basketball community. "Imagine a map that is many, many times larger than previous Neighborhoods," writes executive producer Erick Boenisch in the most recent Courtside Report. "A design that resembles a modern metropolis, complete with towering skyscrapers, sprawling plazas, and a city center. Oh, and it houses four distinct boroughs that are controlled by four rival Affiliations. And with that, I’m incredibly proud to announce that Affiliations are BACK!"

Dragon Quest XI S Gets Huge Demo Available Today

3 years 6 months ago

Click here to watch embedded media

On the fence about playing Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of An Elusive Age - Definitive Edition, the expanded version of the well-received 2018 RPG? Square Enix has given players ample time to figure it out. A demo for the upcoming game is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam and provides an hours-long argument for why you should give the full game a shot.

The demo consists of the game’s entire opening chapters; a chunk Square says could take around 10 hours to complete. Since that’s enough time for players to get the story moving in earnest, all progress will carry over to the full game. Best of all, Square promises demo players will receive special rewards when they boot up the full release. That’s probably the best way to give players real sense of a title that takes 60-80 hours to complete.

Best Dragon Age Origins Mods To Celebrate Its Anniversary On Nov 3

3 years 6 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

Dragon Age Origins first made its glorious BioWare debut back in 2009 on this very day (November 3). This RPG adventure was immediately met with high praise for its incredibly fleshed-out characters, a narrative heavily impacted by player-choice, and those ooh la la romances. It's one of my personal favorites but even I can admit that this game has not aged well. For those wanting to celebrate the Dragon Age anniversary, here are some of the top mods that I use that will enhance that gameplay experience.

Best Dragon Age Origins mods

Dragon Age Redesigned

Dragon Age Redesigned is my go-to when I want to pretty up the game a bit. While it's not the "prettiest" in terms of re-texturization, it is one that is the most reliable in terms of preventing crashes and lost saves.

What this mod does is it changes all of the NPCs in-game (goodbye weird broken elbows and necks made from nightmares) while fixing the various skin and proportion issues seen in-game. It also helps to make what players see in-game be more in-line with the actual Dragon Age lore, something that is surprisingly an issue with the vanilla game.

While not quite as explosive as Fortnite was at launch, Respawn Entertainment's Apex Legends battle royale experience is an incredible addition to the popular genre. With rotating events and new seasonal content, players have been having a grand 'ol time trying to snatch up that Victory Royale. For those that are digging the online shooter, there is good news: already up to 12 seasons are completely planned out and it looks like the studio is looking to expand beyond battle royale for Apex's future.

Apex Legends director Chad Grenier recently sat down with the folks over at Eurogamer to talk about the future of the hit online game. Grenier revealed that the latest season is just one of many more to come and that the team has content planned out "all the way up to season 12" and beyond. Following  season 8's reveal, Grenier mentioned that this time marker will be the pivot to continue work on seasons 13 and 14. From there is anyone's guess.

Ubisoft's Avatar Game Delayed Until 2022

3 years 6 months ago

Ubisoft has quite a few games currently in development, among them is another adaptation of James Cameron's Avatar film. Led by The Division developers over at Massive Entertainment, news of the delay came by way of a recent earnings call. It was there that the company revealed that the reason behind the upcoming Avatar game's delay was to ensure its launch is in line with the Avatar 2 movie coming out in 2022.

Avatar is the latest game under the Ubisoft umbrella to see a pushback, alongside Rainbow Six Quarantine and Far Cry 6. While many games are being pushed back to either steer clear of Cyberpunk 2077's window or because of COVID-19, this decision was made with the launch of the movie in mind.

First announced back in 2017, the upcoming Avatar game is a work in progress with the Massive Entertainment team, the same studio that did The Division, alongside Lightsorm Entertainment, which is James Cameron's studio, and Fox Interactive.

Friday The 13th: The Game Servers Are Shutting Down, But There's Good News

3 years 6 months ago

Friday the 13th: The Game hasn't had the easiest road following a bumpy launch but despite that, the community has grown with a heartfelt attachment to the horror franchise adaptation. That being said, all good things must come to an end and a new blog post from the dev team details what that means for the future of the title.

In the most recent blog post, the team detailed that the dedicated servers will be shutting down here soon. That being said, quick play lobbies will remain open, despite this change, as will private matches. The servers attached to player progression and in-game items will also remain active.

Dedicated Servers for Friday the 13th: The Game will be decommissioned in the upcoming patch, set to roll out this month, November 2020. What this means is that the game will revert back to peer to peer matchmaking for Quick Play lobbies. The Database Servers, however, will stay active and continue to house all player progression and unlocks, so users can continue to play Friday the 13th: The Game via peer to peer Quick Play and Private Matches.

The upcoming patch planned for November will be the final update for Friday the 13th: The Game. This patch will include a ton of fixes for in-game bugs that players have been reporting recently, all of which will be detailed in the notes for the update a week before it launches.

Activision Blizzard Microtransactions Netted Over $1.2 Billion Last Quarter

3 years 6 months ago

Love them or leave them, microtransactions are clearly paying off for Activision Blizzard because in a recent earnings call it was confirmed that the company netted over $1.2 billion in revenue due to this monetary feature.

Despite recent controversies and uncertainty within the Blizzard community, the previous quarter was a fruitful one for the company. With over $1.95 billion in revenue overall between July through September, $1.2 billion accounted for microtransaction sales alone. The massive surge in additional monetary value comes from many franchises, but it was Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare that netted the most.

“Our teams continue to execute our growth plans with excellence during incredibly challenging circumstances,” said Bobby Kotick, Chief Executive Officer of Activision Blizzard. “We are on a path to deliver sustained long-term growth across our fully-owned franchises. With confidence in our ability to continue to execute, we are raising our outlook for the year and remain enthusiastic for our growth prospects next year.”

Todd Howard Reveals New Starfield Details, Elder Scrolls 6 Day One Game Pass Addition Confirmed

3 years 6 months ago

Bethesda revealed its new IP Starfield back in 2018 as a small tease to prove to fans that the company wasn't abandoning single-player adventures following Fallout 76 concerns. While the teaser had many intrigued, it was the barest of teasers that left so many wanting more. While we still don't have a concrete account of what Starfield will have to offer, director Todd Howard did recently share a few more details about the new game.

In a recent interview with GameIndustry.biz (via Reddit) during the Brighton Digital Conference, Howard teased a few more details about the new IP. For those concerned, the Bethesda exec confirmed that there will be no multiplayer aspects to this singleplayer adventure. He also revealed that this, like The Elder Scrolls VI, will focus on procedural generation as well to help create life within the game's settings, and that the universe of Starfield will be so much larger than Fallout 76. That's no small feat, given that Fallout 76 is four times the size of Skyrim.

Harry Potter's Hogwarts Recreated In Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2

Back in October, we shared a really awesome recreation in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 that brought the Super Smash Bros. Hyrule stage to life in a unique, new way. Now the community has done it again, though this time with a bit more magic with this faithful Hogwarts homage from Harry Potter.

While there is an official Harry Potter game coming out on the horizon, one player decided that they just really wanted to shred in the magical world of Hogwarts. Kickflip off of He Who Shall Not Be Named's face for extra cred (not really, but that would be cool).

This is one of the many ways skate fans have shared how incredible the level creator truly is with the right motivation. While not limitless freedom, the tools provided allow for a surprising amount of creative freedom for those that want to blend the best of two worlds with one epic park.

The same person that created this Hogwards nod also created the previous Hyrule Stage. The creator is 'Skyramblez' on YouTube and he's no stranger to creative twists. It is important to note that this creation is for the PC version of the game, just mosey on over to the Create a Park browser and search 'Hogwarts'.

How Do Virtual Escape Rooms Work?

3 years 6 months ago

Over the last decade, escape rooms have become a very popular form of entertainment. Groups gather to be locked into a specifically designed room and must complete various puzzles to emerge victorious before time runs out.

But with the challenges facing the world in 2020, gatherings of this kind have become nearly impossible for most people looking to crack codes and have fun with their friends.

For those wanting to recapture the fun of solving puzzles with other people, The Escape Game has a solution. Virtual escape rooms are similar to that of the more familiar in-person versions. The difference in these experiences is that players are hosted over Zoom or Skype calls and control a "field agent" in real-time to complete the challenges instead of doing it themselves.

While not a traditional video game by any means, we at GI were curious how the process of this live game actually worked. Join Jeff Cork, Joe Juba, Ben Reeves, and me as we take on a nefarious art dealer and try to steal back a priceless painting before he returns in our first attempt at a virtual escape room!

If you're interested in gathering your friends and trying out this digital experience for yourself, be sure to check out The Escape Game's website where you can find all the information on the different digital games they have to offer!

PS5 DualSense Can Work On Nintendo Switch, But You'll Need An Adapter

3 years 6 months ago

PlayStation 5's DualSense controller looks to enhance the future of interactive console gaming. An unanticipated consequence of its adaptability is twitter user BrokenGamezHDR's short video of the DualSense working with the Nintendo Switch. Of course an adapter — namely, the 8BitDo — was used to optimize everything but, it's definitely interesting to see. BrokenGamezHDR even shows off some short menu footage from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for all the skeptics out there. Funnily enough, the DualSense can be used on a plethora of consoles and devices, but it won't work with the PlayStation 4. You can see the video below.

The PlayStation 5 drops on November 12. Be to watch our unboxing video to see how massive the console is and what equipment comes along with your purchase.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Has A Neat Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Easter Egg

The Mandalorian season 2 has begun and the Baby Yoda show is back in full force. The debut episode for the new season was met with immense positivity, marking a successful return to Disney Plus for Star Wars fans. While the new episode has a ton of Star Wars nods across books, movies, and comics, Knights of the Old Republic fans may have noticed a neat little nod to the BioWare game as well.

The Mandalorian season 2 spoilers ahead

It should be obvious, but we can't talk about an Easter egg without talking about the actual Easter egg, so there will be spoilers below. For those still on the fence, we won't be going in deep with dialogue or anything like that, but the nod does relate to an important part of the returning season.

This is your last chance, no angry comments at me, I tried to warn you. No seriously. (Click on the lines below to reveal the Easter egg content)

One of the coolest moments of the first episode is the Krayt dragon. This creature is one that has made a pretty epic showing in various mediums of the Star Wars universe, including the movie A New Hope, books, and the expanding comics. While the Krayt itself is cool, it's what is hidden within him that makes a cool KOTOR nod.

The Wildest People We Found In Watch Dogs: Legion

3 years 6 months ago

Turns out, Watch Dogs: Legion is pretty good. Legion's hook is that everyone walking around its open-world London can be recruited to your hacker terrorist cell Dedsec. Not only that, but you can also play as every person you recruit, each bringing their own special abilities and traits to your team. Personally, I think that Legion is a pretty run-of-the-mill open-world game, but its “recruit anyone” mechanic is truly impressive.

Rather than hand-make the thousands of people you encounter and potentially recruit to your team, Legion seems to mix and match from a variety of phrases and keywords (some mundane, some deeply strange) to make its individual citizens. Because of this, you can find some real freaks walking around London. I love them all.

After many, many hours scanning every person I can in Legion, here are the weirdest, funniest, and most disturbing characters I found.
