Lies of P: The Secret Weapon You Only Get By Lying

While Lies of P might be a far cry from the wholesome tale of the puppet Pinocchio that you know, this grimdark soulslike has more than a few sly references to the classic fairytale up its sleeves. Some easter eggs are more obvious — the cricket-like Gemini or azure-haired Sophia, for example — but what do you really think of when you think of Pinocchio?

That's right, Pinocchio's telltale nose - which in the original story would grow more every time he lied - can be found in Lies of P. In fact, Pinocchio's "nose" is a powerful weapon called the Golden Lie. How can you get your hands on this secret weapon? By lying, of course. Here's how you can unlock the Golden Lie weapon for yourself.

Puppets Cannot Tell a Lie

Your first step towards acquiring the rare Golden Lie weapon starts on the steps of Hotel Krat, when the voice beyond the door asks you... are you a human, or a puppet? This is the first of many questions you are asked in Lies of P in which you must decide to either tell the truth or tell a lie.

Silent Hill: Ascension Will Seemingly Premiere on Halloween, According to Google Play Listing

If you want to get in on the beginning of Silent Hill: Ascension, you might want to clear your Halloween plans.

A Google Play listing for Ascension, a new interactive streaming series, has it premiering on Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. PDT/9 p.m. EST. It’s available for pre-register now.

When reached by IGN, Genvid Entertainment, which is producing the series, could not officially confirm, but said that more information would be coming soon.

Announced back in October 2022, Silent Hill: Ascension is a choose-your-own-adventure mini-series where the stream’s chat will collectively come to decisions that “impact the canon of Silent Hill,” today’s listing says. It will feature daily live story scenes that will change based on the audience’s decisions, and the listing notes that you’ll be able to catch up on-demand on each installment.

The whole project has been pretty mysterious thus far, with Genvid CEO Jacob Navok shedding a bit more light on it in a recent interview with Polygon. At the time, he said that, while comparisons have been made to Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Genvid’s streaming series are basically “crowd-control decision making.”

Cyberpunk 2077's First Post-Phantom Liberty Update, Patch 2.01, Available Today

Cyberpunk 2077's first post-Update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty update, Patch 2.01, will be available today, October 5, and CD Projekt Red has shared the full notes.

Confirmed in a tweet from global community director Marcin Momot (below), patch 2.01 is "currently being rolled out on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S".

Momot thanked users for reporting the various issues addressed in the patch, which is set to tackle the biggest problems with Phantom Liberty including corrupted save data on PS5 and performance issues in the expansion's Dogtown area.

The full patch notes, available below, were shared on CD Projekt Red's website, which outlines more changes than the developer had previously disclosed. Several Phantom Liberty quest bugs have been fixed in the update, and CD Projekt Red has also promised general "performance improvements for both PC and consoles".

Players can also now switch to arm cyberware while cycling through weapons as before, won't find obsolete mods in their inventory, and the haunted Night City Police Department car that previously roamed the streets has been removed.

PS5 Consoles Get a Huge Discount Before Prime Day 2 in the UK

There might be a PS5 'Slim' on the way, according to recent reports and rumours, but for now we're still seeing some exemplary deals on the highly sought-after base console. The latest discount comes in the form of a bundle with EA Sports FC 24, dropping to just £409.99 at select retailers in the UK. This isn't as good as the £400 offer we saw a couple of months back, but considering it includes a brand new game and is well below the asking price of £540, you're still bagging an incredible discount this time around.

For clarity, PS5 disc console RRP is £479.99, while EA Sports FC 24 retails for £69.99, so if you're still lacking a PS5 and want to play the next in line to the 'FIFA' series (remember it's changed name now), then you're in luck with this deal. Even if you're not keen on the football, this is still £60 off the console and includes a free game that you could always sell on for even more money saved.

More PS5 Deals on Prime Day 2

With Prime Day 2 right around the corner on October 10-11, we're highly recommending that if you're picking up this console deal, then wait a little longer before buying anything else to go with your new PS5.

Activision Trying to Nuke Leaked Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Gameplay From the Internet

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 gameplay has hit the internet just days before the beta is set for launch.

Activision is currently working to pull the leaked footage from the internet, but it faces an uphill battle as fans share clips across social media and forums.

A Twitter account called @uwuleaker99 popped up overnight and published gameplay footage that Activision pulled soon after. “This media has been disabled in response to a report by the copyright owner,” reads a message currently displayed on the tweet, which has at the time of publication one million views.

Gameplay is currently still up on YouTube, where a channel called oG JIMMY has posted a handful of videos showing leaked footage of action on multiplayer maps set to appear in the beta. One video shows gameplay on Modern Warfare 3’s version of fan-favourite map, Rust, complete with a game-ending nuke (called Mass Guided Bombs here). Yes, this means fans already know what Modern Warfare 3’s nuke looks like over a month before the official release date.

Kitfox and Bay 12 share plans for Dwarf Fortress Adventure Mode update on Steam

Kitfox and Bay12 have struck the earth, manufactured a thousand stone blocks, and laid out a roadmap for the Dwarf Fortress Steam edition's Adventure Mode, together with some forthcoming updates for the existing fortress management mode. Adventure Mode, in case you've been living under a rock (which I guess you probably have, if you've been playing Dwarf Fortress), is the open world roguelike RPG element of the game, which lets you roam the enormous realm you've generated and even tour/loot/disturb the unquiet spirits of your own, abandoned fortress. Alas, there's no word on a release date for the Steam edition's Adventure Mode beyond "not this year".

Now Red Dead Redemption Is 60fps on PS5, Xbox Series X and S Players Want the Same

This week Rockstar quietly patched its Red Dead Redemption port to add a 60 frames per second toggle to the game on PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility. Now, for the first time, Rockstar’s 2010 open-world western is officially playable at 60fps. But players on other platforms were left wondering: when’s our turn?

Currently, the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch port of Red Dead Redemption remains at 30fps on those platforms. Xbox owners, however, never got a port in the first place.

Rockstar failed to port Red Dead Redemption to Xbox, pointing to backwards compatibility with the Xbox 360 original. While that version does run at 4K resolution on Xbox Series X and S, it’s still limited to 30fps.

Some Xbox owners are now wondering if Microsoft will use its seemingly abandoned FPS Boost to drag Red Dead Redemption up to 60fps, but that appears unlikely. Will Rockstar release an Xbox One port of Red Dead Redemption? That also appears unlikely two months after the August launch of the PS4 and Nintendo Switch port. With no Xbox One version in sight, no 60fps patch is possible.

“Where's ours, Rockstar?” asked redditor SidFarkus47. “If it's not possible from the 360 version, then where's our port?”

“Damn, this actually sucks,” added ninereins48. “Hoping that the 360 version gets FPS Boosted, and if they can’t, they really need to release the port for Xbox consoles. I would gladly buy this game again for 60fps alone.”

Forza Motorsport Gameplay Looking Washed Out? Here's How to Fix It

Forza Motorsport is now available to those who bought the Premium Edition, and some players are noticing a display bug that makes gameplay look washed out on Xbox. Thankfully, developer Turn 10 Studios has shared how to fix it.

Players experiencing the issue should first set the video option they prefer, then quit Forza Motorsport completely from the Xbox dashboard. Players can then restart the game and, as long as they don't go into the display settings again, the washed out gameplay should be fixed.

When tested by IGN, some issues remained even when completing these steps. But restarting the Xbox console altogether solved the remaining graphical bugs.

Having provided the solution, Turn 10 made clear it is aware of the problem but told IGN it would be addressed in the next update, though didn't say when this would be. "We have already checked in a fix for this and it’ll be in the next update," it said.

Forza Motorsport launches proper October 10 but is available today, October 5, for those who bought the more expensive Premium Edition. Those with Game Pass can play it for no additional cost on launch day, or buy the Premium Edition upgrade to play early.

Those looking to do so should be aware of its hefty file size, though at 100GB, it's not much bigger than other recent AAA releases.

Atari Reveals Berzerk: Recharged, The First Berzerk Games Since The 1980s

Atari Berzerk Recharged Reveal Announcement Gameplay Trailer

Earlier this year, Atari announced that it acquired Berzerk, its sequel Frenzy, and 10 more classic arcade properties. Now, as part of Atari's Recharged lineup, it has revealed Berzerk: Recharged, and its coming to consoles and PC later this year.

The original Berzerk is an arcade game released in 1980. In it, players controlled a top-down avatar while shooting through hordes of armed robots in an electrified maze. The big bad was Evil Otto, who bounced around the maze as a giant smiley face, hunting players down. Atari says Otto is back in Berzerk: Recharged, "bringing with him updated graphics, deft twin-stick controls, and a new soundtrack by the acclaimed Megan McDuffee."

Check out Berzerk: Recharged for yourself in the announcement trailer below:

"Though he sports an ominous grin, Otto is a deadly, invincible, ever-present threat presenting only one real survival solution: run," a press release reads. "Paired with Megan McDuffee's original soundtrack of sci-fi synths, Berzerk: Recharged captures the ambiance of a harrowing space station shootout – and a very groovy 80s arcade."

Rockstar Adds 60 FPS Support To Red Dead Redemption And Undead Nightmare On PS5

Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare PS4 PS5 60 FPS Patch Update

Rockstar Games revealed that it was bringing Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare DLC to PlayStation 4 and Switch back in August. It did so, and while the game looked great on both consoles, it was only playable at 30 FPS. PlayStation 5 owners were left wondering if Rockstar wasn't tapping into the power of the current-gen console to bring 60 FPS to the 13-year-old game.

Now, weeks later, Rockstar has updated the PS4 port of Red Dead Redemption and the included Undead Nightmare DLC to include 60 FPS support on PS5 via backward compatibility. It did so randomly, with a quick tweet announcing the news.

Elsewhere in the same update, Rockstar added an option to enable subtitles upon first booting the game. The update also includes general bug fixes and improvements, although Rockstar didn't list which.

Cyberpunk's storytelling makes Starfield seem ancient

I'm jumping to a new planet in Starfield and my space cowboy companion Sam Coe needs to have a serious conversation. He launches into a long story about his estranged partner but he's facing the wrong way. Stuck on a ladder in the middle of my ship, he tells his sad tale to a blank wall.

Restarting the conversation helps a little. Sam is looking at me now, but his mouth and eyebrows are operating on different wavelengths. Occasionally his face settles on a recognisable expression, but the in-between moments - as he reorganises his wayward features - are deeply strange. All the while he stands stock-still and completely upright, like a toy soldier stuck in his plastic packaging.

Like all of Starfield's characters, he does not touch anything, or anyone. He does not eat. He does not use the bathroom. Sam Coe rotates on the spot and delivers his lines until the next stage of his personal side quest unlocks. Sam Coe is a horrible, distorted facsimile of a human being.

Hutch Games responds to Advertising Standards Authority loot box complaint

Mobile developer Hutch Games has corrected store listings for two of its free-to-play games following complaints filed with the UK Advertising Standards Authority, and described its omission of explicit disclosure of loot boxes a "mistake".

The complaints were made by researcher Leon Y. Xiao, who has conducted studies on the effectiveness of Belgium's loot box ban and the consistency of loot box warnings on games.

Xiao filed complaints regarding Hutch Games for Rebel Racing on the Google Play Store and F1 Clash - Car Racing Manager on the Apple App Store, and said that both games failed to mention the presence of loot boxes. Current ASA guidance states advertising must make it clear if loot boxes exist in a game, with a notification on store pages at a minimum.

We've known for a while that the game would use Denuvo, together with the VMProtect software, but what's baking the noodles of many players is that the Denuvo functionality has been snuck in after the Assassin's Creed: Mirage review embargo, denying critics the chance to assess its impact on the game.

Caster and Farmer Are the Best Silent Hope Starting Characters

One of the first things you need to do when Silent Hope begins is pick your who your starting hero will be s. There are a lot, honestly. It doesn’t help that at the Character Selection screen in that very moment, it only offers a brief three or four sentences describing them and not really highlighting their abilities. Yes, when you encounter the rainbow, tear-shaped crystals on floors you can use that to swap characters or retreat to the surface, and you’ll get that opportunity to do so shortly during the tutorial run. It still can feel like a big commitment. I chose the Fighter, then regretted it almost right away. So if you are picking from the seven characters to determine your starting one in Silent Hope, I say go with the Caster or Farmer.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage takes us all the way back to 9th century Baghdad to live the origin story of Basim. We first met Basim in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and Mirage connects back to that game in a couple of important ways. To explore how those connections are forged, as well as answer any lingering questions, we’re going to fully break down the ending of Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Full spoilers are ahead, so leap away now if you haven’t finished the game or don’t want to know.

The Head of the Snake

Basim’s quest to cut off the head of the snake brings him to the Palace of the Green Dome. Here he comes face to face with Al-Bahamut, the leader of the Order in Baghdad. They are revealed to be Qabiha, the concubine of the Caliph who was killed by Nehal during the prologue. But it turns out that Qabiha has been hunting for Basim as much as he has been hunting her.

Qabiha’s son, Abu ‘Abdallah, saw the ancient disc activate when young Basim touched it in the palace. He told his mother what he saw, and so for years Qabiha has known that Basim is connected to the Isu; an ancient civilisation that ruled the world before the era of humanity. And so she attempts to coerce him, promising that he will learn everything of who he is in a secret chamber beneath the Hidden Ones’ temple of Alamut. But before she can say anymore, Roshan assassinates her. The master assassin warns Basim that if he goes looking for answers she will kill him.
