Hitman 3: All Six Locations Revealed

3 years 3 months ago

Hitman 3, the stylish assassination game, features Agent 47 trekking and executing missions all over the world. Ahead of the game's launch, IO Interactive took to Twitter to announce all six of the locations Agent 47 will visit.

In addition to the previously revealed Chongqing, Dubai, and Dartmoor locations, Hitman 3 will take players to Berlin in Germany, Mendoza in Argentina, and the Carpathian Mountains in Romania. Mendoza will host Agent 47's penultimate mission, and the game's epilogue will take place in the Carpathian Mountains.

GameSpot editor Phil Hornshaw was able to play Hitman 3's first two levels set in Dubai and Dartmoor. Hornshaw praised the gameplay and commented, "For its third game, Hitman 3 isn't changing the formula that made the first two titles so much fun. Each of its missions is a huge, clockwork-like contraption of various characters wandering here and there, which can be disrupted through often-weird, novel killing methods."

Twitch's Viewership Record Shattered By The Grefg

3 years 3 months ago

Spanish streamer and EU Heretics team owner David "TheGrefg" Martinez has beaten the record for most concurrent viewers for any gaming-related stream on Twitch. The content creator's stream revealing he's a new skin in Fortnite managed to reach 2.5 million viewers, which is far above the previous record holders.

For context of how big this is, the runner-ups to this record include channels like Twitch eLeague and YouTuber Rubiu5. The former has managed to reach 1.1 million viewers and the latter surpassed 1.06 million--both of which are much lower than 2.5 million, so Martinez has utterly smashed the record by a significant margin.

Now, Western Digital has revealed a fresh line of portable solid-state drives, and they're bigger than ever before, though they've got a price tag to match.

CD Projekt Could Be Fined If Cyberpunk 2077 Isn't Improved In Upcoming Patches

3 years 3 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077's launch has been anything but smooth, and now Poland's Office of Competition and Consumer Protection has begun investigating its developer, CD Projekt Red. As reported by Polish business newspaper Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, the consumer protection office will monitor the company's progress on upcoming patches that are meant to improve Cyberpunk 2077 on console after its rocky start.

"We are asking the company for explanation regarding problems with the game and actions taken by them," the office said, as translated by IGN. "We will check how the developer is working on patches or solving issues preventing playing on various consoles, but also what steps [the company] is planning to take regarding people [who requested refunds] and are not happy with their purchase because they can't play the game on owned hardware, despite assurances by the producer."

According to the report, the investigating office will give CDPR time to offer an explanation. After that, it's reported that CDPR could be fined up to 10% of income for the latest financial year. The report also said, via IGN, that the office could request CDPR to offer "digital bonuses" to those who bought Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4/Xbox One as a means of recompense.

LG Teases New Rollable Phone At CES 2021

3 years 3 months ago

LG took to the virtual stage during CES 2021 to unveil a swath of new products, including gaming monitors and OLED TVs. Tucked into the end of the company's approximately 30-minute livestream was an official albeit brief look at the LG Rollable phone.

"Brief" is an understatement. LG wrapped up its CES 2021 presentation with someone holding a phone with a screen that slowly collapses on itself. Once the movement is done, the device's display cuts to black and the text "More to Explore" pops up above the phone's name--LG Rollable--in white. This all occurs in a 10-second sequence before the broadcast ends.

According to GameSpot sister site CNET, the LG Rollable is slated to launch this year. However, LG hasn't outlined a price point or announced a release date for the phone yet.

Riot And Bungie Team Up To Sue Destiny 2 And Valorant Cheat-Peddlers

3 years 3 months ago

Cheating can be a major fun-killer in popular multiplayer games, and recently big-name developers have taken increasingly brazen action to try to stop cheat-peddlers from making a profit off the misfortune of others. Now, Riot and Bungie are teaming up to file a joint complaint against Cameron Santos, who owns several sites that sell cheats for Destiny 2 and Valorant. Gatorcheats is the most well-known of the sites listed in the suit.

The lawsuit was filed in California on January 8, and it alleges that Santos is trafficking in "a portfolio of malicious cheats and hacks." According to the suit, Santos and his staff sell their cheats via email, Telegram, Discord, and other platforms. In order to remedy the harm caused by the service, Bungie and Riot are asking the court to shut it down completely. Activision Blizzard previously sent a cease & desist letter to Gatorcheats last year, which caused the site to stop selling Call of Duty-related cheats. However, the site kept selling cheats for non-COD games like Valorant and Destiny 2, hence this legal action. Nintendo, Activision, Epic Games, and Pokemon Go creator Niantic have all filed similar lawsuits over the past few years.

Most Of The Games Sold In The UK In 2020 Were Digital

3 years 3 months ago

It appears that digital game downloads dominated the UK market. Of the almost 43 million games sold in total there in 2020, 24.5 million were digital downloads, as reported by GamesIndustry.Biz. This is up 74% from 2019's sales figures.

To assemble this analysis, GamesIndustry used data from the GSD, which covers all physical retail sales, as well as download sales for most major games companies. Not all publishers submit their sales data to the GSD for analysis however, so figuring out exactly how these trends have shifted since last year isn't fully possible, but GamesIndustry broke the figures down as best they could without including information from Bethesda and Nintendo. Two-thirds, or 67% of AAA games sold in the UK were purchased via a digital storefront like Steam, Nintendo eShop, PSN, and Xbox Live. This is a 15% jump from 2019's figures, where 52% of games were purchased from digital storefronts.

Despite this, physical games still saw some growth in 2020. There was a 2% increase in boxed game sales in 2020 over 2019, and including console hardware and accessories, the physical games market in the UK is worth over £2.1 billion. That's a 28% increase from 2019.

Square Enix Files New Final Fantasy Trademarks In Japan

3 years 3 months ago

It seems something new is in the pipeline for Square Enix as the company recently made public three Final Fantasy-related trademarks that were filed in Japan last month.

According to Gematsu, Square Enix filed three trademarks in December 2020: "Ever Crisis" and "The First Soldier" on December 17 and the Shinra Electric Power Company logo on December 22. All three were made public on January 12. The trademark filings don't include any descriptions, so it's unclear exactly what Square Enix plans to do with them. It's common for companies to file trademarks, but more often than not companies end up not using them.

However, all three bear a connection to the Final Fantasy series, particularly Final Fantasy VII. "Ever Crisis" is likely a reference to Square Enix's two Crisis games, the 2004 mobile game Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII and the 2007 PSP title Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. Meanwhile, "The First Soldier" seemingly alludes to 1st Class Soldier and main FFVII villain Sephiroth.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Appears To Be Coming In March

3 years 3 months ago

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, a set of remasters of the original three Mass Effect games, could be preparing for launch in March. A pair of retailers have listed the game for release on March 12, much narrowed from its previously vague "2021" release target.

The shops Shopitree and GSShop (via VGC) both shared the date, which is more specific than you'd expect for a mere placeholder date. The dates appearing together so suddenly may also suggest that, if accurate, an official announcement is coming soon.

The Legendary Edition brings together all three main Mass Effect games, sans the divisive Andromeda, and adds all of the DLC, 4K textures, and improved character models, but may not include multiplayer. That includes the entire Shepard storyline, and Mass Effect notably imported certain decision points and carried them across games.

Google Stadia, Nvidia GeForce Now Coming To 2021 LG TVs

3 years 3 months ago

Along with a new range of OLED TVs for 2021, LG has announced that native support for Google Stadia and Nvidia GeForce Now is coming to its TVs later this year.

This will be the first time both services are offered through a TV directly, previously requiring hardware such as a Chromecast or Nvidia Shield to run. Announced at CES 2021, Stadia will launch on LG's new TVs in the second half of 2021, with support for its premium tier which delivers games at 4K and 60FPS with HDR and 5.1 surround sound.

LG stated that TVs will require webOS 6.0 to access Stadia, which will ship with its new TVs. Older sets, such as last year's LG CX, will need to wait a bit longer. LG says support for webOS 5.0 is coming later in the year.

You Can Play Pokemon Red Inside A Twitter Avatar

3 years 3 months ago

We've seen Twitch "play" a lot of games, most famously Pokemon, as the audience controlled a rudimentary voting system to determine what the on-screen game would do. Now a variation of that has appeared with the same basic gist playing out inside a user's Twitter avatar.

Twitter user Constantin Lietard set up a script that makes a move in Pokemon Red every 15 minutes, based on replies to a pinned tweet. Then the current status of the game is taken as a screenshot and uploaded as the new Twitter avatar. As of the time of writing, Ash appears to be exploring some tall grass.

The game has only been going on for a few days, and with a move being made every 15 minutes, progress is slow. The crowd chose Squirtle as its starter, and it just battled a Zubat. It may be a long wait before the crowd makes it to the Elite Four.

LG's 2021 OLED TVs Feature Its Brightest Panels Yet

3 years 3 months ago

For 2021, LG isn't overhauling its popular line of OLED TVs. Instead, it's addressing one of the most common complaints with the technology: peak brightness.

With its more expensive G-series of OLED TVs, announced during CES 2021, LG is promising better overall brightness levels with what it's calling OLED Evo. This should, in theory, make picture quality better in brightly lit rooms, where the lower brightness levels of OLED vs. LCD struggled.

LG isn't including this with its new C-series line, the follow-up to arguably one of the most popular TVs series around the launch of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The new C1 comes in various sizes, including 48", 55", and 65", and features a refreshed panel, LG's new 6.0 webOS, and a more powerful a9 internal processor to help power this year's iteration of AI picture enhancements.

Hearthstone's Legendary Rogue Card Edwin Van Cleef Finally Nerfed

3 years 3 months ago

Fans of Hearthstone's Edwin VanCleef will have to start adjusting their strategy, as Blizzard has announced that the Rogue class card will finally be getting a nerf in the upcoming 19.2.1 patch. While Edwin is still on the chopping block for Standard games in a few months, Blizzard is increasing its mana cost by one point so that Edwin players won't be able to end games early with the card's +2/+2 ability that activated with every card played that turn.

Shaman's Boggspine Knuckles weapon will also see its attack lowered so that it has decreased fluidity and increased investment for playing a 5-mana weapon without a free Dread Corsair, according to the Hearthstone team. This will reduce the overall damage output the deck is capable of over multiple weapon charges and lowers the number of explosive plays available to Evolve Shaman overall.

Elisa the Immortal is also receiving a big downgrade in Battlegrounds, as her health and attack has been reduced from 7 to 4. This will likely result in Elisa no longer being a wrecking machine against minions or a strong magnet for absorbing attacks.

The broadcast featured a variety of special graphics, including the network's trademark slime pouring down on the field (virtually) after touchdowns, while slime was also used to project the first-down marker on the field. During field goal attempts, meanwhile, SpongeBob's face was projected between the goal posts.

There was also a Minecraft-y segment where the Bears and Saints players became block-y athletes in what was one of the stranger sequences during the evening.

Black PS5 Sale Canceled After Site Says It Received Threats To Safety

3 years 3 months ago

Last week, a custom black PS5 model went on sale via the store SUP3R5, promising a sleek and classic look for the PS5--which is currently only available in a white version. The systems went out of stock on the site almost immediately, but following what the site says were threats to its safety, orders are being refunded and the system is no longer being sold at all.

According to VGC, a statement on the company's now-deleted Twitter account said the sale didn't go as planned, as players were charged without knowing if they had actually secured a system, and a later message said existing orders were canceled due to threats to the staff's safety.

"Last night, our team began receiving credible threats to their safety," the store said in the statement. "We take these threats seriously. We aren't willing to risk the safety and well-being of our team, or the potential impact this would bring to delivering your order."

Killzone Website No Longer Available, Thanks Players For Their Support

3 years 3 months ago

Killzone developer Guerrilla Games had a smash hit with 2017's Horizon: Zero Dawn, and the sequel Horizon: Forbidden West is set to release later this year. However, it appears the Killzone franchise may have been a casualty of this success. The official Killzone website is no longer available, instead directing players to visit the main PlayStation site in its place.

As spotted by VGC, the official Killzone site now only shows a notice page letting visitors know it has been "retired" and that it will soon forward them to PlayStation.com instead. You can no longer create or manage clans in the PS4 launch game Killzone: Shadow Fall, either, though you can still play online multiplayer in the game as normal. It's not clear if there are future plans to shut down these servers yet.

"Thank you to Killzone.com's many fans and visitors throughout the years for their enthusiasm and support," Guerrilla Games said on the site.

Gotham Knights' Co-Op Focus Resulted In Gotham City Being Redesigned

3 years 3 months ago

As one of the most-anticipated games of 2021, Gotham Knights has some big bat-shaped boots to fill when you take to the streets as one of Batman's four protégés. While the Batman: Arkham series of video games focused on a lone caped crusader, developer Warner Bros. Montreal is taking a different approach and emphasizing co-op play as you protect the city in the wake of Batman's death.

"We have entirely redesigned the combat system in order for it to work well in co-op," executive producer Fleur Marty said to GamesRadar. "Of course, we're still a brawler, and some of the mechanics won't feel totally alien for people who played and enjoyed the Arkham series, but it is in many ways very different."

According to creative director Patrick Redding, the drop-in and drop-out co-op gameplay resulted in a redesign of Gotham City, so that enemy encounters wouldn't feel claustrophobic. "Gotham is a city of alleyways and rooftops, so the footprint for gameplay needs to be compatible with that," Redding explained. This isn't the city you remember from the Arkham trilogy.

Gengar's Cursed Mouth Pokemon Pillow Is Now The Perfect Way To Escape Reality

3 years 3 months ago

Barely ten days into 2021, the world remains more chaotic than ever. If you're looking for some way to escape the madness outside, then Bandai and Nintendo may have a solution for you: A massive Pokemon pillow that allows you to stick your head into the gaping maw of the ghostly Gengar.

More than just a comfortable plushy portal to block out the outside world and possibly scream into, the Gengar cushion also allows you to unroll the Pokemon's trademark lengthy tongue out as a convenient blanket. At five feet and five inches in length, it looks to be a comfortable surface to lay on before you enter the sensory deprivation chamber that is Gengar's mouth.

Good luck getting your hands on one of these pillows right now though. According to Pokemon merchandise-tracking website Pokeshopper, the Gengar cushion--which costs over $250--sold out after an hour of going live. It's also worth noting that in Pokemon lore, Gengar's mouth is capable of breaching the dimensional barriers between life and death.

Halo Infinite Designer Leaves To Join Darksiders Studio

3 years 3 months ago

Halo Infinite developer Kolbe Payne has officially left the studio. January 7 was his last day working for 343 Industries, and he's now taken a position at Darksiders studio Gunfire Games.

Payne was a campaign level/gameplay designer on Halo Infinite from April 2019 to January 2021. His LinkedIn page says he worked for 343 on a contract basis.

Payne is now working at Austin, Texas-based developer Gunfire Games as a junior level designer, though it's not immediately clear what project he's contributing to. The studio created Darksiders 3, which received mixed reviews when it launched in 2018. It also developed the Souls-like Remnant: From the Ashes the next year, which took From Software's formula and turned it into a snappy third-person shooter. The last Darksiders game was Darksiders Genesis, a spinoff prequel featuring Strife and War. It was developed by Airship Syndicate rather than Gunfire Games.

Witcher 3 Mod Finally Gives Geralt A Snowboard

3 years 3 months ago

Have you ever looked at The Witcher's Geralt of Rivia and just thought "This guy is just not extreme enough?" Well, now you can have him shred the Continent's powder with this Witcher 3 mod that gives our favorite monster hunter a snowboard.

The mod is called Geralt VGX Snowboarder, and it adds a snowboard that Geralt can find on an altar in Skellige that overlooks the bay of Kaer Trolde. As noted by the mod's designer Feregorn, this area is home to some great items and is also "a solid spot for avid virtual instagrammers." The mod also provides Geralt with some snazzy snowboarding goggles to protect his cat eyes from the cold.

The accompanying snowboard can be equipped in either a weapon or boot slot, so Geralt can use it to hit either the slopes, or his enemies. Just don't pay too much attention to the usual sword sounds and animations that still accompany Geralt's attacks.

Destiny 2 Trials Of Osiris Rewards This Week (January 8-12)

3 years 3 months ago

Destiny 2's Season of the Hunt is winding down, and so are your chances to go Flawless in the Trials of Osiris before we roll over into the game's next batch of content. But there's still some time to work on this season's Flawless seal, as well as to earn yourself some new Adept weapons and mods.

Each week, the map on which Trials of Osiris matches are played rotates, as do the rewards you'll unlock for earning wins in the weekend multiplayer tournament. Here's a rundown of where you'll play this week's Trials matches and what you can get for winning:

Trials of Osiris Map And Rewards (January 8-12)

  • Map: Dead Cliffs
  • 3 wins -- Hunter, Warlock, or Titan Leg Armor: Boots, Legs, or Grieves of the Exile
  • 5 wins -- The Summoner, Solar auto rifle
  • 7 wins -- Hunter, Warlock, or Titan Class Item: Cloak, Bond, or Mark of the Exile
  • Flawless run -- Eye of Sol, Kinetic sniper rifle
    • Adept Mod: Charge Time

If you're unfamiliar with the Trials of Osiris, it puts you into some of the Crucible's most challenging PvP battles. While your goal in the Crucible is always to win, it's tougher in the Trials because you need multiple wins in a row. Notch seven winning matches without losing a single one and you'll earn what's known as a "Flawless" run. That gets you a trip to the Lighthouse--a special Trials social space--and exclusive rewards and recognition. In the Beyond Light expansion, opening the Flawless chest earns you an "Adept" weapon, which comes with extra stat boosts unavailable on any other guns in the game, as well as powerful Adept mods that are likewise unavailable anywhere else.

Pokemon Sword And Shield's Shiny Skwovet Event Is Back This Weekend

3 years 3 months ago

Pokemon Sword and Shield's Shiny Skwovet event has returned for a limited time. From January 8-10, you'll have a chance to find the Shiny Pokemon--along with a handful of other monsters--in Max Raid dens and earn some rare berries and other rewards.

Throughout the event, Shiny Skwovet and Shiny Greedent will be appearing in five-star Max Raids, although they'll be quite rare, so you'll need a bit of luck and persistence to find them. On top of that, Amoonguss, Cherubi, and Shiinotic will also be appearing more frequently in Raids, and you'll earn extra berries for capturing or defeating the featured Pokemon.

The Shiny Skwovet event runs until 3:59 PM PT / 6:59 PM ET / 11:59 PM UTC on January 10, so you only have a limited time to participate. This marks the second time this event has been held in Sword and Shield, opening the possibility that other limited-time Shiny Pokemon events could be brought back in the future, although nothing has been confirmed in that regard.

Persona 5 Strikers Characters Come To Dragalia Lost In New Crossover Event

3 years 3 months ago

Nintendo took to YouTube to announce that its mobile action-RPG Dragalia Lost will get a brand-new crossover event featuring the characters from the upcoming Persona 5 Strikers.

The event is scheduled to go live later this month for Android and iOS devices, though Nintendo hasn't provided an exact start date for the raid. Dragalia Lost director Yuki Okada did share some details about the event in the announcement video, including confirmation that Persona 5 protagonist Joker and various other members of the Phantom Thieves will be playable in-game. While working with the Halidom, the Dragalia Lost and Persona 5 Strikers characters will team up to "solve a strange incident in a brand-new story," according to Okada.

Okada also confirmed that the event will feature animations and graphics reminiscent of Persona 5 Strikers. And as players complete quests, "another adventurer" will join their roster. More information will be posted inside Dragalia Lost and on the game's official website and social media channels. Okada said players should keep their eyes locked on these spaces.

Destiny 2: Where Is Xur This Week? Exotic Items / Location Guide (January 8-12)

3 years 3 months ago

Xur is back in the Destiny 2 solar system as we get close to the end of the Season of the Hunt, bearing new Exotic gifts for Guardians. That's handy, since this week saw the return of the Iron Banner, as well as the launch of the Season of the Hunt's High Celebrant mission. Head to The EDZ, to the Winding Cove area, to find Xur this week. For his weapon, Xur is offering Telesto. Hunters can pick up the Sealed Ahamkara Grasps gauntlets; for Titans, there's the Antaeus Wards leg armor; and for Warlocks, Xur has the Getaway Artist gauntlets.

Xur Location

Climb the cliff at the north end of Winding Cove to find Xur standing beside a crashed Fallen dropship.

Head to the Winding Cove transmat zone and spawn in, then jump on your sparrow and head north. Make your way to the northern edge of the area and either climb the rock wall there or find a cave pathway on the left side, near the curving highway road. You'll find Xur above, standing beside a crashed Fallen dropship.
