Weird West Will Get Wild On PlayStation, Xbox, And PC This January

2 years 6 months ago

Wolfeye Studios has announced that its upcoming isometric action-RPG will ride into town (and demand a high noon showdown) on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and PC, this January.

Developed by Wolfeye, a studio made up of former Dishonored and Prey devs, Weird West is a unique take on the Wild West genre. It features its fair share of cowboys, coyotes, and midday duels, of course, but this frontier is also home to Pigmen, the undead, giants, and more. It is very much a “weird” west, and it can be experienced by all on January 11.

“Sheriff Wolfeye Studios and their slack-jawed deputy Devolver Digital have announced that Weird West, their upcoming action RPG experience set within a surreal vision of the developing frontier, is coming to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on January 11,” a press release for the announcement reads. “To coincide with the news, the bucking broncos have opened pre-orders on Steam and released the first part of a brand new video series. Wolfeye Studios creative director Raf Colantonio walks through an overview of the game in the first of a series of deeper dive videos.”

Apex Legends Lists Ash’s Abilities in New Character Trailer

2 years 6 months ago

Apex Legends Season 11: Escape is going live on Nov. 2, so Respawn is pushing the trailer rollout into overdrive at this point. And if you’re a longtime Apex fan, you know the drill. This trailer gives us a detailed look at what new Legend, Ash, will be bringing to Apex Legends in terms of abilities and skills.

Ash’s Passive Ability, Marked for Death, allows her to see Deathboxes on the map and interact with them to locate the attacking team that created those boxes. Her Tactical is an Arc Snare that tethers and traps enemies who get too close to it. And finally, her Ultimate creates a one-way portal by cutting through space.

Ash is an aggressive Legend who focuses more on attacking, strategic repositioning, and hunting down targets than anything else.

You can check out the trailer below to see all of Ash’s abilities as they appear in Apex Legends Season 11: Escape.

Ubisoft Has “Other Exciting Premium Games” Next Fiscal Year; Comments on Assassin’s Creed Infinity

2 years 6 months ago

During Ubisoft’s quarterly financial conference call for investors and analysts, CEO Yves Guillemot and CFO Frédérick Duguet talked about the next fiscal year and beyond.

The executives were asked if there is room for a fourth AAA game on top of Avatar: Frontier of Pandora, Skull & Bones, & Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.

The reply was that there are “Other Exciting Premium Games” expected to come in the fiscal year, which spans the period between April 2022 and March 2023. It’s worth mentioning that Ubisoft defines “premium” non-free to play AAA games.

While not explicitly, Duguet seemed to hint that none of these will be an Assassin’s Creed game in response to another question, mentioning that Ubisoft will be focusing on delivering a “big year two” for Valhalla, with the biggest post-launch program ever for the franchise.

Incidentally, we also heard that Skull & Bones is considered “very promising” and has just passed an important milestone in development. On the other hand, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope should be much bigger than Kingdom Battle due to the fact that the installed base of the Switch is much higher now.

Gran Turismo 7 Racer Trailer Focuses on the Experience of Being a Racer

2 years 6 months ago

Earlier today, a brand-new trailer for Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 7 was released on the Gran Turismo TV YouTube Channel. The trailer comes in just over a minute long and features some gameplay along with narration by Kazunori Yamauchi.

The main focus of the trailer was all about the experience of being a racer. Besides creating the Gran Turismo franchise, Yamauchi is also an accomplished racer, so his words carry an immense amount of legitimacy along with them.

In the trailer, Yamauchi talked about the different aspects and experiences of being a racer like the feeling of your front tires slipping as you understeer around a curve, assembling a team and car, or even something as simple as hearing the other racer’s cars around you.

It was also revealed that the sensation of your tires slipping while understeering will be simulated by the haptic feedback in the DualSense controller. This feature will be exclusive to the PS5 version of Gran Turismo 7 since the PS4’s DualShock 4 is incapable of producing such feedback.

At the end of the trailer, Yamauchi says, “Gran Turismo is a game in which there’s an awful lot to learn. You learn about cars, about their mechanisms, about driving. The more you know, the more enjoyable the game becomes.” This statement is very much true for the Gran Turismo series as a whole.

You can experience the DualSense controller’s haptics in the PS5 version of Gran Turismo 7 when it hits store shelves on March 4, 2022. The game will also be released for PS4 on the same date. Pre-orders are currently available for both platform versions.

And don’t forget to check out the full Gran Turismo 7 Racer trailer with Kazunori Yamauchi down below.

What’s New in Apex Legends Season 11? Everything You Need to Know

Apex Legends Season 11 Preview – A Welcome Vacation in Storm Point

2 years 6 months ago

Apex Legends Season 11: Escape is right around the corner and it’s adding another Titanfall gun, a huge tropical map, a ruthless new Legend, and more. I recently got the opportunity to attend a hands-on preview event for the new season, so here are my first impressions of what’s being added to the game on Nov. 2.

The last time a new map got added was back in Season 7: Ascension, and this new one, Storm Point, will shake up the game in significant ways just like Olympus did. Storm Point is presented as a tropical getaway at first, but of course, that wouldn’t be nearly as entertaining as what really awaits the Legends in this hostile new environment.

This huge island is the largest map to date, as it’s 15% larger than World’s Edge. And with all that space comes aggressive wildlife, new map traversal options, 17 notable POIs, and the return of Tridents to help get from place to place as efficiently as possible.

One of the most interesting things about Storm Point is how varied the environments are. It’s all cohesive even though you could be on the beach one minute, then a dense jungle or mountainside the next. And if you’re not careful, you’ll end up in a spider or prowler nest.

The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake Has Been Delayed Yet Again

2 years 6 months ago

Ubisoft has delayed its Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake for a third time, with the developer explaining in its financial report today that the game has been pushed to the next fiscal year. It was supposed to be launching this fiscal year, before March 2022. No concrete date has yet been announced.

An update shared from the development team itself simply reassures fans that progress is still being made and that the game is still being worked on, but there’s nothing offered in terms of reason as to why the delay has occurred.

This is the second time the team has issued a vague statement in response to delaying the game. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was delayed back in February without any real reason disclosed as to why. It was first delayed from December to March 2021, supposedly due to COVID-19 stay-at-home measures.

It’s worth noting that its initial reveal in 2019 wasn’t well-received, with the game’s graphical improvements looking somewhat lackluster. The YouTube like/dislike ratio is overwhelmingly negative.

This Pikachu Engagement Ring May Cost Over $10,000, but It Sure Is Beautiful

2 years 6 months ago

If you’re thinking about proposing to a special someone in your life who happens to be a big Pokemon fan and want the best way to say “I choose you,” then you’re in luck: a Japanese company called U-Treasure sells beautiful, Pokemon-themed engagement rings, and they just introduced a brand new design featuring Pikachu.

Based on a previous design in their collection, the Pikachu Solitaire Ring has been upgraded to be able to host a larger diamond (between 1. and 1.999ct) and features both a male and female Pikachu on the setting.

The two Pikachu on this band have different tails to show their genders: the female Pikachu has a heart-shaped tail, and the male Pikachu has a flat tail.

You can actually buy this Pikachu Solitaire ring from U-Treasure, but of course, as it is meant to be an engagement ring it’ll come at a high cost: the prices range from 93,500 yen (approximately $825 USD) to 125,400 yen (approximately $1,106 USD) for just the band itself, depending on the type of metal you choose. And before you ask, yes, they ship overseas.

If you’d like a rough idea of what you may end up spending, an example is provided with the band in platinum and 18k yellow gold setting holding a 1.032ct diamond. It costs a whopping 1,169,400 yen (approximately $10,320 USD). This ring can be purchased right here.

Of course, you could go higher since the biggest diamond the ring can hold is just south of 2ct.

The ring comes with a custom engraving option and also arrives in a cute Master Ball case so that you can perfectly propose by saying “I choose you.”

Here are pictures of this beautiful piece of jewelry as well as the Master Ball case:

Riders Republic’s Xbox Achievements Will Keep Me Up at Night

2 years 6 months ago

Ubisoft Annecy’s Riders Republic is out, huzzah! Now you can throw yourself down a mountain with what is essentially a jet-pack tied to your back from the comfort of your own home. You can smarmily cruise down a snowy mountain backward on skis, or ‘shred the gnar‘ on your board as the cool kids would say. You can even shred multiple gnars with your friends… I don’t know what I’m saying at this point. All I do know is that alongside all of these wonderful things that Riders Republic lets you experience from the safety of your living room, it can also ruin your life… and by life, I mean your Xbox account’s Gamerscore.

Am I being melodramatic? Not really. Any other achievement hunters out there will feel my pain here… I hope. Let me get to the point. Riders Republic has a grand total of 34 achievements that add up to 1000 glorious Gamerscore. That’s actually a relatively low amount of achievements for a AAA title by today’s standards. “Winner winner,” I thought to myself rather smugly this morning. “Easy G’s.”

Well, those “easy G’s” (wow, I really do sound like an asshat most of the time) come in the most infuriating of forms. Let us explore this nightmare together:

‘…Vici – Finish First in the Invitational – 70G’ Standard par for the course in the world of achievements. A relatively high-level, late-game experience with a big old chunk of Gamerscore as your reward. 50G or even 100G would have been even sweeter, but we’re not going to complain too much here.

Oculus Quest to Phase Out Facebook Account Requirement

2 years 6 months ago

During Facebook Connect, Mark Zuckerberg announced that a personal Facebook account would soon no longer be required to use Oculus Quest hardware.

"As we've focused more on work, and frankly as we've heard your feedback more broadly, we're working on making it so you can log into Quest with an account other than your personal Facebook account," Zuckerberg said during the Facebook Connect keynote.

Last year, Facebook announced that Oculus VR headsets would require a Facebook login starting in October 2020, and independent Oculus account support would end at the start of 2023. The move was massively unpopular, as many people did not want to link their personal social media – or use Facebook at all – in order to use their Oculus VR devices.

Now, it seems the company has reversed course.

"We're starting to test support for work accounts soon, and we're working on making a broader shift here within the next year," Zuckerberg said.

During today's event, Facebook also announced that GTA: San Andreas would be coming to Oculus Quest 2, teased a next-generation VR/AR headset called Project Cambria, and said the company would be changing its name to Meta.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR Announced for Oculus Quest 2

2 years 6 months ago

During today's Facebook Connect, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Rockstar's classic open-world game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is coming Oculus Quest 2.

While no footage of the VR port was shown, Oculus Quest 2 is no stranger to porting classic games and re-imagining them for VR. Oculus previously worked with Armature and Capcom to bring Resident Evil 4 to VR.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is set in the fictional southern California city and tells the story of the CJ, a framed man who returns to his old San Andreas neighborhood to save his family.

Like other Grand Theft Auto games, San Andreas is an open-world game where players can freely explore San Andreas and its neighboring areas. Facebook didn't reveal details about how this open-world saga will be translated into VR.

PlayStation Plus November 2021 Lineup Has Six Games, Includes Knockout City and Kingdoms of Amalur Remaster

2 years 6 months ago

Sony has announced the PlayStation Plus lineup for November, and it includes six free games for PS Plus subscribers. The lineup includes First Class Trouble and Knockout City for PS5/PS4, and Kingdoms of Amular: Re-Reckoning on PS4.

To celebrate PlayStation VR's 5th anniversary, PS Plus subscribers can also download three PS VR games: The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, The Persistence, and Until You Fall. The games will be available for download starting Tuesday, November 2.

Knockout City is a team-based multiplayer dodgeball game that launched earlier this year. We said the game was amazing in our Knockout City review, saying, "Knockout City is one of the best team-based PvP games to come out in years. It's a fresh take on the American schoolyard staple that proves that lowering the mechanical bar for entry doesn’t have to come at the cost of deep tactical gameplay.

First Class Trouble was just detailed in this week's State of Play. and it's a new multiplayer mafia-like game that sees a group of players trying to escape a cruise ship, while two of the players work to sabotage the rest of the team.

Apex Legends Season 11 - Escape: New Gameplay Details Including Ash Abilities, New Map, New Gun

2 years 6 months ago

Apex Legends Season 11 Escape is right around the corner and we’re getting a lot of new content. From the biggest map, Respawn has released for Apex Legends yet, to a new weapon and Legend coming into the games.

There is a lot to take in, but don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Let’s go over everything you need to know about Ash’s abilities, the new Stormpoint map, and the new CAR SMG.

A New Challenger - Ash

Let’s start with Ash. If you want a full breakdown of Ash’s lore and backstory I have a recap video you can check out above.

In terms of abilities, Ash heavily mirrors a Titan's abilities from Titanfall. Her tactical “Arc Snare” has her throwing out a projectile that shocks enemies and tethers them to the ground, reminiscent of the Northstar Titan’s ability. Ash’s tactical requires you to be extremely precise with how you deploy it. If you throw it on the ground next to your enemy, it needs to be close enough to the enemy to catch them in the tether.

The best bet is to hit the enemy in the body with the Snare to catch them for the stun damage. The Snare also only lasts a few seconds on its surface if it doesn’t attach to anyone, so precision is key with her tactical. A player caught in the Snare can run in the opposite direction quickly to snap it.

Ash’s passive, “Marked for Death,” reveals deathboxes on the map whenever a player dies but also has another passive that allows her to throw a Dataknife at a deathbox to find where the killer squad is. This is potentially one of Ash’s strongest abilities. Note she can only use this ability once per box and the tracking only pings the enemy’s location like a manual player ping so it’s not constantly tracking.

Sony Introduces New PlayStation PC Label

2 years 6 months ago

In a reflection of Sony's recent embrace of PC gaming, the platform holder has introduced the PlayStation PC brand for several of its games on Steam.

The new label popped up just recently as the publisher for Days Gone on Steam, and Video Games Chronicle reports that the name was registered back in April. It further solidifies Sony's intentions for PC, suggesting that PlayStation intends to bring plenty more games to Steam in the near future.

Already, several PlayStation exclusives have made their way to PC, including Horizon Zero Dawn, Death Stranding and Days Gone. God of War and the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection are both due in 2022. PlayStation has generally worked with external developers on these projects, including 505 Games and Jetpack Interactive.

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan explained PlayStation's strategy for PC in an interview with GQ, "There’s an opportunity to expose those great games to a wider audience and recognize the economics of game development, which are not always straightforward. The cost of making games goes up with each cycle, as the caliber of the IP has improved. Also, our ease of making it available to non-console owners has grown. So it’s a fairly straightforward decision for us to make."

Samsung's PS5 Compatible SSD With Heatsinks Are Now Available

2 years 6 months ago

The Samsung Pro series M.2 SSDs are well regarded and high-performing, meeting all the requirements for use in the PS5. Well, every requirement except for a heatsink, which you had to install yourself. Samsung has removed this extra step from the PS5 SSD process and released its Samsung 980 PRO series SSD with a manufacturer-supplied heatsink right out of the box.

PS5 Compatible Samsung SSD

At the moment, you can order the SSDs direct from Samsung, but the listings for both the 1TB and 2TB versions are live on Amazon. However, Amazon has them listed as "temporarily out of stock," which is fairly standard when Amazon puts a placeholder page up for an item its not quite ready to put out for sale.

The Samsung 980 is one of the best PS5 SSDs you can buy, and being able to get one with a heatsink makes things just a little easier for you. Of course, you can always just go ahead and buy the regular Samsung 980 Pro and install your own heatsink, if you're comfortable with that option. It will save you money, too.

Diablo Immortal's Closed Beta Launches Today... Complete With Controller Support

2 years 6 months ago

Activision Blizzard is currently facing serious ongoing allegations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers. To learn more, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject.

Diablo Immortal's closed beta goes live today, and brings with it a stack of new features, such as the addition of controller support and the debut of the Necromancer as a playable class. Elsewhere, the game now has set items (but they're a little different to what you might expect), a ladder system for its Battlegrounds mode, and more collaborative raid-style end game content, among many other changes.

Before we get into all that, however, as with the closed alpha, not everyone will be able to access the closed beta. It's running on Android only and is restricted to players in Australia and Canada for now, with access for Korea, Japan and China in the coming weeks. Now, let's go through what players can expect from the closed beta, with a little help from Diablo Immortal's game director Wyatt Cheng and production director Caleb Arseneaux.

Weird West, the New Indie From Former Dishonored And Prey Devs, Has a Release Date

2 years 6 months ago

Weird West, the first game from WolfEye Studios, has set a release date for January 11, 2022.

The action RPG, set in a surreal version of America’s developing frontier, will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One consoles. Pre-orders are now available on Steam, and will grant players an in-game horse named Calamity. This horse doubles inventory size and will come with saddle bags stocked up with lockpicks, bandages, tools, and other items, as well as a Golden Ace of Spades upgrade token.

The announcement comes at the same time as a new video, which emphasizes the interactivity in Wild West’s world. WolfEye wants every item that looks to be interactive to work how you’d expect it to, and so many layers of simulation have been applied to cater to that. The video also reveals that there are five playable characters, each with their own storyline. One of those characters is bounty hunter Jane Bell, whose son has been killed and spouse abducted.

Weird West is a top-down RPG, described by the developers as an ‘immersive sim’, putting it in the same category as games like Dishonored and Prey. That’s no surprise considering WolfEye Studios was founded by Raphael Colantonio, the former founder of Arkane Studios. He set WolfEye up with fellow Arkane veteran Julien Roby.

Resident Evil Village Has Sold Over 5 Million Copies As Capcom’s Record Profits Continue

2 years 6 months ago

Capcom has announced that Resident Evil: Village has sold 5 million copies globally, reaching the milestone somewhat quicker than its predecessor Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. The news comes as Capcom reports record level sales and profits for a second quarter.

As announced in a press release, Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil: Village has now sold over 5 million units globally. Following a successful release window back in May, during which the game sold over 3 million units in its first week, Resident Evil: Village has since seen a "steady growth of sales" that has allowed the game's success to continue on.

According to the company, the success of Village is in part down to its "multifaceted expansion" of the series overall. "In addition to providing a sense of scale that outdoes its predecessor [Resident Evil 7: Biohazard], as well as storytelling that rises above the genre of horror games, this title was lauded for featuring a higher degree of action and even more expansive, highly engaging gameplay," a statement from the studio about the game reads.

Mario Party Superstars Review

2 years 6 months ago

With 23 years of history under its belt, the Mario Party series has certainly had its fair share of highs and lows, with its highs representing some of the most fun I’ve had playing local multiplayer games with friends, and its lows being… well, the near opposite of that. Thankfully, Mario Party Superstars is a celebration of only the best moments this long-running franchise has had. It gathers 100 of the most enjoyable minigames, five excellent boards from the first three Mario Party games, and an amalgamation of some of the best rules, mechanics, and quality-of-life improvements into a single Switch game. It’s still unsurprisingly dull without friends, and not all of the minigames are worthy of the “superstar” label, but on the whole this is quite simply the best Mario Party has been in a very long time.

2018’s Super Mario Party represented a “back to basics” shift for the series, and Mario Party Superstars has taken that idea several steps further by focusing in on the N64 and early GameCube days. There are no motion-controlled minigames, no item capsules, no character-specific custom dice blocks, no buddies to recruit, and of course, no party car. Just four players, each taking turns rolling dice, moving along a virtual game board, playing minigames to earn coins, and using those coins to buy stars. And maybe it's because it has been a long while since we’ve had a Mario Party game without some sort of extra gimmick, but this simplicity is incredibly refreshing, and I certainly didn’t miss having something there to mix up the formula.

Sony Has Now Sold 13.4 Million PlayStation 5 Consoles

2 years 6 months ago

Sony's latest financial reports have announced that 13.4m PlayStation 5 consoles have been sold to date, with 3.3 million PS5s being sold within the July-September Q2 period.

As revealed in Sony's Financial Results for Q2, the company's Game & Network Services Segment sold 1 million more PS5s to retailers in the quarter when compared to previous three-month period. This is the second highest quarterly sales for the PS5, matching Q4 2020 and only just trailing behind Q3 2020's record 4.5m sales.

These sales contributed to a total of $5.86 billion in revenue for Sony's gaming division, up 27% year-on-year for the best Q2 PlayStation has ever achieved. Of that revenue, $0.751b was taken as profit. While sales are impressive, there has been a decrease in operating profit, which is down 21% year-on-year. This comes partly due to lower PS4 sales - the console sold just 0.2m units this quarter - and PS5 consoles being sold at a loss.

Overall, PlayStation accounts for 27% of Sony's total revenue this quarter, and 26% of its total operating profit.

In game sales, Sony reports 76.4m games sold during the quarter across PS4 and PS5. As for lifetime sales, God of War has been its biggest seller, at 19.5 million copies. Horizon Zero Dawn, meanwhile has shifted 10m, and Marvel's Spider-Man has sold 13.2m. On PS5, Demon's Souls has sold 1.4m copies, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has sold 1.2m.

Dr. Dre Reportedly Making New Music For Grand Theft Auto

2 years 6 months ago

Leave it to Snoop Dogg to deliver some of the biggest news of the day. Snoop Dogg says Dr. Dre is working on new music for an upcoming Grand Theft Auto game.

Snoop Dogg revealed the news while as a guest on the Rolling Stone Music Now Podcast. In an episode that will air on Friday, Snoop said, "I do know [Dr. Dre] is in the studio... I do know he's making great f***ing music. And some of his music is connected to the GTA game that's coming out. So I think that that will be the way that his music will be released, through the GTA video game."

In an article published on Wednesday, Rolling Stone says a representative for Rockstar Games declined to comment.

There is a chance Snoop Dogg could be referring to the recently announced Grand Theft Auto trilogy remaster. Dr. Dre was featured on the radio stations in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but those were previously-released songs.

Rockstar hasn't yet talked about how much of the original radio station music has been licensed for the new versions of the games or if any of the music has been replaced.

Final Fantasy 5 Pixel Remaster Gets November Launch Date

2 years 6 months ago

The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Series is a remastered collection of the first six Final Fantasy games. Instead of releasing the titles simultaneously, Square Enix opted to launch the first three games all at once before individually dropping the back half of the bunch. Final Fantasy IV arrived in September and now it’s time for the fifth entry to return to the spotlight.

Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster launches to Steam and mobile devices on November 10. Like the previous games, it features updated pixel art, modernized gameplay and menus, a rearranged soundtrack by original composer Nobuo Uematsu, and goodies such as a bestiary and illustrations gallery. Final Fantasy V originally launched in Japan in 1992 but didn’t reach the U.S. until 1999’s Final Fantasy Anthology for PlayStation 1. The game is most famous for introducing an expanded job system that allowed a greater degree of party customization, which has been adopted and expanded upon in later Final Fantasy entries.

The FFV Pixel Remaster normally runs for $17.99, but you can nab it at a 20% discount ($14.39). Those who pre-order it receive two wallpapers and timelapse remixes of three in-game songs: "The Main Theme," "Battle at Big Bridge," and "A New World." If you’d rather purchase all six games at once, the bundle for that currently sits at a discounted price of $74.82.
