Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection Is Coming to PC Next Month

1 year 8 months ago

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection finally has a PC release date.

The long-awaited Uncharted collection includes Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and will finally make its way to PC on October 19.

The collection was leaked on the Epic Games Store earlier in the year, with a similar listing now confirming the release date as well as what we can expect from its pre-order bonuses.

“The Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, remastered and optimized for PC, hits Epic Games Store on Oct. 19, and if you pre-purchase it, you’ll get a snazzy new Fortnite glider in the shape of Sully’s seaplane.”

That’s right – you could be gliding your way into King’s Canyon via Sully’s seaplane… but whether or not you’ll be able to brandish his signature mustache is unknown.

Additionally, the seaplane glider will be heading to the Fortnite Item Shop on November 19.

Disney’s Gaming Arm Is ‘Paying Attention’ to Blockchain Endeavors, But Isn’t Invested For Now

1 year 8 months ago

Gaming is having some serious whiplash on everything web3, blockchain, and NFT-related lately, with a number of companies jumping on the bandwagon (some to massive backlash) and others playing more cautiously. Now, we can go ahead and add Disney’s gaming arm into the column of “currently not interested.”

In an interview with Disney VP of Disney, Pixar, and 20th Century Games Luigi Priore, he told IGN that while Disney is currently watching the industry closely and observing the changes and trends to see what will ultimately stick, it doesn’t have anything to announce regarding blockchain projects for now.

“It’s a whole new area,” Priore says. “We’re always paying attention to what happens there. We’re looking for those successes to say: where is that gonna go? Because there have been a lot of very high profile failures, and there haven’t been a lot of high profile successes. Are we looking at that and paying close attention to it? We are. We’re not announcing anything, we don’t have anything to talk about right now, but as the industry changes we’ll be right there with it.”

In a follow-up statement to IGN, a Disney games representative clarified that the company has no plans for NFT or blockchain games.

Disney Illusion Island Is Built on the Foundation of a Canceled 2016 Game

1 year 8 months ago

In 2016, when Disney shut down its internal games development and publishing arms, one major casualty was an unreleased project made by indie studio Dlala. But now it looks like at least some form of the game canceled back then is finally seeing the light of day.

Dlala’s original collaborative project with Disney was never officially announced. We know it involved a reboot of one of Disney’s biggest IPs, and would have been a four-player couch co-op platformer, “an episodic Metroidvania-style affair” with hand-drawn characters. And we know that Dlala had signed a $3.5 million deal to get it made. But when Disney exited publishing, Dlala’s game went with it after a year and a half of work.

Dlala was able to keep some of the payout, but had to very quickly pivot its plans to keep the studio alive long-term. And it succeeded, through contributions to games like Team17’s The Escapists, Modus’ Lost Words: Beyond the Page, and its own recent project: Battletoads.

But now, Dlala is back in partnership with Disney for a game that has at least some of the DNA of that canceled 2016 game. Announced today at the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase, we got a look at Disney Illusion Island: a four-player co-op platformer featuring Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald Duck.

Disney and Marvel Games Showcase Is a Disney Gaming Renaissance Six Years in the Making

1 year 8 months ago

Six years ago, Disney announced it was shutting down its games publishing and development arms, seemingly exiting games for good.

Today, with a showcase stuffed with Disney and Marvel licensed titles, it’s like it never left.

Alongside new trailers and updates for known games like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Disney Dreamlight Valley, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Marvel Snap, and Disney Speedstorm, we just saw brand new reveals of games including Tron Identity from Bithell Games, Disney Illusion Island from Dlala, and Amy Hennig’s mysterious project with Skydance Media: a Captain America and Black Panther game set in World War II. Disney-loving gamers are eating well today.

But if you told any of us back in 2016 that this smorgasbord of Disney games was on the horizon, we might not have believed you. That year, Disney not only shuttered its massive toys-to-life franchise Disney Infinity, but it also announced it would be shutting down internal development studio Avalanche and leaving self-publishing for good, transitioning exclusively to a licensing model.

Marvel World of Heroes, a New AR Game From Niantic, Announced

1 year 8 months ago

Niantic is turning the Marvel Universe into reality, augmented reality that is, with the new mobile game World of Heroes coming in 2023.

Niantic specializes in augmented reality games like Pokemon Go where players use their phones to interact with the real world. While gameplay details are sparse, it looks like players will be able to collect various Marvel superpowers like Doctor Strange's magic, Cyclops' laser eyes, and Thor's Mjolnir.

Check out the trailer below.

According to the press release, Marvel World of Heroes will let players create their own super hero identity and team up with Marvel characters in the real world.

World of Heroes will be coming next year and players can pre-register now. There will also likely be some kind of social co-op element as the trailer ends with a park full of players blasting abilities at each other.

Niantic is still chasing the success of Pokemon Go, collaborating with various IPs to bring to its AR ecosystem. Aside from Pokemon, Niantic has developed games around Harry Potter, Pikmin, and Transformers with the latest partnership being with Marvel.

New Marvel Game Starring Captain America and Black Panther From Amy Hennig Announced

1 year 8 months ago

The new Marvel game from Amy Hennig's Skydance New Media division is taking a different approach to the Marvel Universe, teasing a game set in World War 2-era Paris starring Captain America and Black Panther.

In a moody, cinematic trailer set to Vera Lynn's 'We'll Meet Again' it's not until the end we see Captain America's iconic shield and a brief glimpse of Cap and Black Panther facing off. The words 'King,' 'Captain,' 'Soldier,' 'Spy,' then flash across the screen before the trailer ends with a shadowy look of our heroes.

Check out the trailer below.

The teaser implies the game will take place across two locations, likely Paris and Wakanda, and star four heroes. While two of them will be Captain America and Black Panther, we also get a look at Howling Commandos member Gabriel Jones and Nanali, the leader of the Wakandan Spy Network.

Other than a few easter eggs (Hydra notebook?) Skydance Media looks to be keeping plot details under wraps. IGN's Ryan McCaffrey interviewed Hennig and learned a few new details about the project:

Skydance New Media was founded in 2019 as Skydance's video game development studio. Under Hennig, Skydance New Media has already announced a Star Wars game in partnership with Lucasfilm Games, but it appears the team is now ready to add a Marvel title to the lineup.

Gargoyles Is Getting a Video Game Remaster

1 year 8 months ago

During today's Disney and Marvel Games Showcase, we learned about a curious remaster that you might have missed during the event if you blinked: Gargoyles. We're getting a Gargoyles Remaster.

Developed by Empty Clip Studios (which most recently worked on the Streets of Rage and Yakuza mash-up Streets of Kamurocho), Gargoyles Remastered is exactly what it says on the tin: a remaster of the classic platformer that was out on the Sega Genesis in 1995.

Gargoyles Remastered is planned for release on console and PC with updated visuals and controls, but there's no release date for it yet.

If you're less than familiar with Gargoyles itself, the game is based on the Disney animated series of the same name that aired back in the 90s and followed a group of gargoyles in then-modern-day New York City who protect it fromfrom various supernatural villains. It was a part of the Disney Afternoon programming back in the day, and has become a bit of a cult hit over the years. It's currently available on Disney+.

Gargoyles Remastered joins a number of other Disney Classic platformers that have seen remasters in recent years, including Aladdin, The Lion King, and The Jungle Book.

You can check out everything announced so far at D23 from the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase in our roundup.

Marvel's Midnight Suns Gets a New Release Date For PC, Xbox, and PlayStation

1 year 8 months ago

After another delay, Marvel's Midnight Suns has a new release date. The new Marvel strategy game from Firaxis will be coming to new-gen consoles and PC on December 2, 2022. The Switch version remains without a release date.

Midnight Suns was announced in 2021 and was originally set to be released on October 7, 2022, with the Switch version being released later. In August, the title was further delayed and will now be released in December. However, the Switch version still hasn't received a release date.

Check out the trailer here:

Developed by Firaxis Games, Midnight Suns will be familiar to fans of XCOM. Players can control iconic heroes like Doctor Strange and Ghost Rider and have them move to various locations along the map to strategically take out enemies.

There's also a social element to the game as well since players will take on the role of Hunter, an original character who can interact with the Marvel Universe.

An animated prequel short will premiere on October 31 that introduces the main cast of the game including Blade, Ghost Rider, Nico Minoru, Magik, Iron Man, and more.

While Midnight Suns is dated for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, we're going to have to wait longer for a proper Switch release date.

Cyberpunk 2077 Just Got Official Mod Support

1 year 8 months ago

CD Projekt Red has released an official modding tool called REDmod that allows Cyberpunk 2077 players to officially create and install their own mods to the PC version of the game.

As reported by Eurogamer, the REDmod tool includes custom sounds, animations, scripts, and more that lets players easily create custom content. It will also be updated regularly as new updates for Cyberpunk 2077 are released in order to stay compatible.

"You can use REDmod modding tools separately (in the commandline) or integrated into the WolvenKit mod editor (recommended for best experience and ease of use)," the official website reads.

Old mods created outside the new tool will still work without issue, CD Projekt Red made clear, and popular modding website Nexus Mods has added an official page on its website to explain how the two services will work side by side.

REDmod is also completely optional, being branded as DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 instead of a mandatory system, meaning users can continue to use the old modding systems if they prefer.

MultiVersus Gizmo Trailer Reveals Gameplay, Tiny Pink Car

1 year 8 months ago

Gremlins star Gizmo has made his MultiVersus debut.

Everyone’s favorite Mogwai is now live in MultiVersus, the online platform fighter from Warner Bros., and a new gameplay trailer gives us the lowdown on what to expect from the game’s cutest brawler.

Gizmo has arrived as part of MultiVersus Season 1 and features some interesting moves, as well as an appearance from his iconic pink toy sports car.

The latest update went live just yesterday, adding a number of fixes and balance changes alongside the cool new character. Update your game and you’ll find Gizmo added to the MultiVersus roster.

And he’s got some interesting attacks and abilities.

Gizmo is a support class character with a pretty unique move set, including the weird and wonderful Gizmo-A-Go-Go – a new support move that allows Gizmo to jump onto his partner’s back and absorb incoming damage. Yes, it essentially makes Gizmo a human (Mogwai) shield, but it also removes any negative status effects.

He can also use the move Corrugated Camouflage to hunker down in the toy chest from the movie Gremlins, blocking all incoming projectile damage. Neat, but don’t let your opponents get too close.

Most interestingly, Gizmo can also climb into his iconic pink toy sports car with the Beep Beep move, driving around and damaging opponents. A well-timed jump sends the car smashing into Gizmo’s opponents while you make a quick getawa, and your partner can even drive it around if it’s left unattended.

Check out the video above for an in-depth look at the rest of Gizmo’s moves.

Sega Announces RGG Summit Stream With Possible Yakuza Details

Sega has announced that Yakuza developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is hosting its RGG Summit stream on September 14, which will potentially include new details on the upcoming Yakuza 8.

Announced in a tweet (below), the stream will take place at 9am Pacific / 12noon Eastern / 5pm UK (so 2am AEST on September 15), and though RGG Studio hasn't confirmed what games will be featured, it has been teasing a full reveal of Yakuza 8 for some time.

It first confirmed it was working on a new game back in November last year, revealing it would be a direct sequel to 2020's Like a Dragon, but more recently shared a handful of images from Yakuza 8 in a behind-the-scenes video at the studio.

RGG Studio is working on other games as well, however, also confirming in November that it was continuing development on the Judgement series as well as developing a brand new game that is yet to be revealed.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R Review

1 year 8 months ago

Since its re-emergence in the anime scene in 2012, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has had an upsurge in popularity thanks to its exuberant characters, vibrant worldbuilding, and infinitely memeable moments. In 2013, developer CyberConnect 2 and Bandai Namco released a fighting game based on the long-running manga series to little fanfare. Almost a decade later, a remastered and upgraded version called JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R looks to make a splash in a fighting game genre that’s become more exciting and crowded in recent years. All Star Battle R comes equipped with some bold new characters, smart updates to the combat system, and a disappointing replacement for the original’s story mode. So in some ways, it succeeds as a celebration of the 35-year history of one of the most exuberant and vibrant anime and manga series out there, but while it remains an entertaining fighting game, its online components still feel archaic in the modern era.

A Plague Tale: Requiem - Improving All The Right Ways - The Final Preview

1 year 8 months ago

If you’ve completed A Plague Tale: Innocence, you know that Amicia and Hugo have been through a lot together. And from what I’ve seen of the sequel so far, A Plague Tale: Requiem has solidified their bond, but they are still looking to cure Hugo completely. Unfortunately, after the first game's happyish ending, it would seem that trouble has caught up with the pair yet again and you’ll need to use every tool in your arsenal to get out alive. At least now that kit includes the full gamut of abilities from the first game at their disposal, with a few new tricks and some friends who are more than willing to offer a hand.

My preview took me through Chapter 6, which showcased Amicia’s newfound viciousness, and Hugo’s rat empowerment ratcheted up to 11. Hugo can now see through walls and control rats on a whim, but if he gets too carried away, a flood of the vermin will put him and his sister at risk. As we’ve already previewed this section, I’ll just briefly say that I am very impressed with the advancement of visuals as Amicia and Hugo look more realistic than ever before. Their battle scars are on display with details clearly emphasized by marks left, or infections spreading on the surface of their skin. Everything looks clearer than the previous game and it truly seems like the team is pushing the Unreal Engine to make this world pop in all the right ways.

Company of Heroes 3: A Look at the Mission Variety – IGN First

1 year 8 months ago

Over the course of Company of Heroes 3's expansive, open-ended Italian campaign, you'll fight your fair share of classic RTS battles. Quite a lot of them, probably. But to add some variety, there are also several less conventional encounters you can come across with their own rules and objectives, so you have to stay on your toes. From a desperate rescue mission to shadowy commando operations, it will take ingenuity and adaptability to break the Axis lines in the push toward Rome. We got to try out just a few of these unorthodox scenarios.

They say the best way to stop a snake is to cut off the head. I don't know who "they" are, nor have I actually tested this. I'd rather leave snakes alone, you know? But it can definitely be true when fighting Nazis, which brought us to one of my favorite Company of Heroes 3 missions so far: The Gardening Job. This nighttime infiltration is a stealthy special forces assignment, giving you a small number of very specialized troops and no way to get reinforcements. You'll have to infiltrate an occupied manor, taking out guards along the way, before assassinating a Nazi officer and escaping, hopefully, with your lives.

Startup developer Different Monster has announced Macabre Museum, a new four-player time-traveling co-op horror adventure game for PC. No release date has been given as of yet.

PlayStation's Jim Ryan Calls Xbox's Call of Duty Promise 'Inadequate on Many Levels'

1 year 8 months ago

Last week, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said new Call of Duty games will remain on PlayStation platforms for "at least several more years" after Activision's current contract with Sony expires. Now, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan is calling Spencer's offer "inadequate".

In a statement to GamesIndustry.biz, Ryan said he didn't intend to comment on the business discussion until Spencer brought it into the "public forum."

"Microsoft has only offered for Call of Duty to remain on PlayStation for three years after the current agreement between Activision and Sony ends," Ryan said, "After almost 20 years of Call of Duty on PlayStation, their proposal was inadequate on many levels and failed to take account of the impact on our gamers. We want to guarantee PlayStation gamers continue to have the highest quality Call of Duty experience, and Microsoft’s proposal undermines this principle."

Cyberpunk 2077 Ending Development on PS4 and Xbox One, CD Projekt Red Confirms

1 year 8 months ago

CD Projekt Red has decided to end development of new content for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Cyberpunk 2077, confirming in an update note that future expansions, including the recently announced Phantom Liberty, will only be released on PC, PS5, Stadia and Xbox Series X|S.

Following Patch 1.6 (the Edgerunners Update), they’ll focus their attention and resources on the new-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077; however, they’re still committed to and will continue to provide technical support for last gen versions of the game, according to the release.

“In practice, that means after Patch 1.6 your game will continue to work on previous-gen consoles and we will continue to provide technical support to players — as we do with all our other games,” the release reads. “However, new content updates and improvements will no longer be available for previous-gen consoles, including the upcoming expansion.”

CD Projekt Red stressed that though the decision to end the development of future content was a “difficult decision,” they chose to do so because they believe that the scope of the expansion makes “releasing it for previous-gen consoles technologically challenging without compromising player experience.”

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Introduce a Brand New Way to Battle

1 year 8 months ago

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are introducing a brand new way to battle with other pocket monsters that doesn't require any input from the trainer whatsoever.

Auto Battles take place through a new feature called Let's Go that lets players send off their partner Pokémon to explore the nearby area, during which they can take on wild Pokémon in their own fights.

Announced on the Pokémon website following a new trailer (below) being released, Auto Battles (as the name suggests) take place independently of the player's involvement. This means that, while you can stick around and watch your Pokémon battle another, you can also walk away and explore the area.

"You can have one Pokémon out and walking with you in the Paldea region’s great outdoors," the website reads. "When you have a Pokémon exploring with you in the field, you can use the 'Let’s Go' feature to send that Pokémon off in the direction you indicate. The Pokémon you send out then independently picks up items in the area and even has Auto Battles with nearby Pokémon."

Auto Battles also let the Pokémon earn experience points, though it's unclear if there's a limit to the time or number of battles it can engage in before requiring another command from the player.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Gets Demake Mod to Bring Back Low-Poly Graphics

1 year 8 months ago

Fans may have waited two decades for a Final Fantasy 7 remake – but a new PC mod has reverted 2020's uprezzed heroes back to the original PlayStation game's low-poly graphics.

As reported by PC Gamer, Nexus Mods user FantasyRaider has created a mod that turns Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret and Yuffie back to their original, pointy Final Fantasy 7 appearances.

The characters will appear in their low-poly forms - which are technically taken from the Windows 1998 version of the game (evidenced by their mouths that don't appear in the original) throughout both gameplay and in-engine cutscenes. They won't appear in Remake's full cinematic cutscenes, however, but can still be enjoyed for most of the game.

Everything else remains in full HD, of course, with just the character models of playable characters being sent back in time. This includes Sonon Kusakabe, who wasn't in the original game and was instead introduced in Remake's Intermission chapter –but the mod also gives him a low-poly model too.

Beyond the Wire Review

Beyond The Wire fashions itself as an epic simulation of the first World War. When you sign up you’re shuffled into a player-organized battalion, which then orchestrates the full military operations of war-torn Europe across massive, 100-player servers. Your conscript can serve the cause in whatever way they want: maybe they’re an artilleryman who shells the rival factions from afar. Or perhaps they log time as a gunner huddled behind machine gun emplacements, or a scout marking potential headshots for their sniper compatriots. It all sounds incredibly enticing, and when it comes together, Beyond The Wire delivers a steely, thinking-man's interpretation of the chaos found in DICE's 2016 standout Battlefield 1. The problem is, even in the days after its official launch out of early access, Beyond The Wire hasn't yet mustered the steady player count to fulfill its ambitions, and that makes the mere act of playing Redstone Interactive's latest more difficult than it ever should be.

In the first few days after its August 31 launch, Beyond The Wire at full-throttle was a sight to behold. Mortar shells pound the dirt as you dash to the frontlines, like one of the single-shot epics in Sam Mendes's 1917. Enemy soldiers seem to swarm the theater of operations, providing a grist for a hail of rifle fire. Redstone has devised a wonderfully deliberate weightiness with its gunplay, where one missed shot can seal your fate.

Splatoon 3 Review in Progress: Multiplayer

1 year 8 months ago

Note: This review in progress exclusively covers the multiplayer modes of Splatoon 3. For our thoughts on the campaign, check out our Splatoon 3 single-player campaign review.

At first glance, you might not notice too much that’s wildly different about Splatoon 3’s multiplayer options compared to past installments. However, the handful of dives I’ve been able to take into its ink-covered warzones ahead of release have already revealed a heaping helping of quality-of-life changes lurking just below the surface. From better lobby systems to multiple practice ranges to even more customization options that can make your character shine, Splatoon 3 has foregone any drastic additions or changes in order to fine-tune what makes its team-based multiplayer so extremely addicting. That’s not to say you won’t find anything new either, as the inclusion of stylish new weapons and terrifying new Salmon Run foes can mix up its familiar formula in interesting ways. I still need to test out its modes in the wild on live servers, but so far Splatoon 3 has given me a lot to love.

Splatoon 3 Review: Single-Player

1 year 8 months ago

Note: This review covers the single-player mode of Splatoon 3. Our multiplayer review is currently in progress while we await more opportunities to play with full servers, but you can read my Splatoon 3 multiplayer review impressions now.

Historically, Splatoon’s single-player campaigns have focused on acclimating you to the waters of its much more frantic and churning multiplayer battle modes. Splatoon 3’s campaign — dubbed The Return of the Mammalians — starts in territory so familiar that I was initially worried I was about to spend the next several hours slogging through tutorials on fundamentals I’d learned two games ago. Thankfully, the rug was quickly pulled out from under me, leading to a brand-new take on the series’ hub world design mixed with some of the best ideas of Splatoon 2’s Octo Expansion. Splatoon 3 boldly let me decide on whether or not to blaze my own path toward any of its 70 bite-sized, inventive missions, and choose where to go next when exploring its fuzzy ooze-filled world. A lot of the enemies I found there were unchanged from previous Splatoons, but I had a great time navigating the large variety of objectives all the way to the campaign’s explosively satisfying finale.

Xbox Announces Cheaper Elite 2 Core Controller

1 year 8 months ago

Microsoft is introducing a new version of its popular Xbox Elite Series 2 controller today. And outside of it being a new color variant, it also comes with a cheaper retail price but does not include a lot of stuff found in the standard Elite 2 controller. Preorders are now live at Amazon.

The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 - Core is a two-toned controller with matte black grips and a primarily white body. Retailing at $129.99, the Elite 2 - Core is more competitively priced when compared to the standard Elite 2 controller, which costs $179.99.

However, that cheaper price tag also comes with some caveats; the main ones include the lack of a carrying case, paddles, extra thumbsticks, and a standard D-Pad. You can see the infographic below that shows the clear comparisons between both Elite Series 2 controllers.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Show Off Their 3 Major Stories

1 year 8 months ago

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet have shown off the three separate stories that make up the core of the new games, including the expected gym battles, the new Team Star to take down, and a journey to discover mystical plants (and taking on Titan monsters).

Revealed in a new trailer (below) and explained more on the Pokémon website, the three questlines are grouped by a single prompt – you're attending a school in the new Paldea region, and have been handed a special independent study project with the theme "A Treasure Hunt".

You can find that treasure through three different questlines, which can be taken on in any order. Victory Road is the most familiar of the three, challenging you to defeat the leaders of eight Pokémon gyms then pass "the Champion Assessment" at Pokémon League headquarters. However, you'll also need to complete unique Gym Tests to get to those battles – the one we see involves collecting Sunflora hidden around the area.

Starfall Street is Scarlet and Violet's space to introduce a villainous group, in this case Team Star. Made up of rebellious students from your school – "Each squad is led by its own boss, each with their own base scattered across the Paldea region." You'll be heading into bases, where Team Star will send "a relentless barrage of Pokémon to get in your way," asking you to defeat a set number within a time limit. Complete that, and you'll need to take on a boss riding their own custom Starmobile, which needs to be defeated alongside their squads of Pokémon.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Is the 'Only Planned Expansion' for the Game

1 year 8 months ago

It looks as though Cyberpunk 2077 may only be getting one expansion.

Announced yesterday during Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City Wire livestream, Phantom Liberty is heading to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Google Stadia sometime in 2023. However, while many expected Cyberpunk to echo The Witcher 3's two major expansions, it looks as though only one is in the works.

“Glad to hear we sparked your interest!” said developer CD Projekt Red in a YouTube comment (spotted by XGP) on the expansion’s reveal trailer. “As for the future, Phantom Liberty is the only planned expansion for Cyberpunk 2077.”

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty marks the first major content expansion beyond its smaller, regular updates. At the moment, little is known about the expansion aside from its expected release, which was earlier confirmed by developers, as well as a glimpse of what we can expect in the official release trailer.

Keanu Reeves will be back as Johnny Silverhand… and a plot involving an out to the New United States of America sounds rather ominous. “We're having a lot of fun with [the expansion]," said game director Gabriel Amatengelo. “It's a new style of plot, a new cast of characters, [and will expand] on a district in Night City where it primarily takes place.”

Sony Has Quietly Redesigned the Inside of the PS5

1 year 8 months ago

Sony has updated the internal design of its PlayStation 5 consoles, and seemingly made the console more energy efficient as a result.

As reported by The Verge, YouTube user Austin Evans took apart the redesigned console and found that Sony had made some fairly significant changes. Despite not being a rebranded update (akin to the PlayStation 4 Slim), Sony has updated the PS5's internals roughly once a year to make the machine more efficient (and presumably cheaper to produce).

The updated model's motherboard has been reduced in size by about two inches, the cooling has been changed through an additional heat pipe at the back of a console and a smaller heatsink, and the SSD enclosure has also been changed slightly.

Though Sony may have had other reasons for updating the console, Evans claimed in his video that the new PS5 uses around 20 to 30 less watts while gaming and is therefore the most energy efficient version of the console so far.

The new model comes just as Sony increased the price of the PS5 in most major markets including the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada, and Mexico. "The global economic environment is a challenge that many of you around the world are no doubt experiencing," the publisher said at the time.

Moonbreaker Announces Two Free Weekends to Play Before Launch

1 year 8 months ago

The developers behind Moonbreaker are hosting two preview weekends on Steam in September, leading up to the game's Early Access launch later this month.

Moonbreaker will hit Steam Early Access on September 29, but those wanting to try out the game even earlier may be able to participate in one of two playtests via Steam. The first will occur between September 9 and September 11, and the second will run from September 16 to September 18. The entire game will be unlocked for testers, though some in-game systems and the store will be disabled.

Moonbreaker is a digital tabletop strategy game in which you build armies from a huge selection of units before taking them into battle. But the kicker is you can also paint your units, choosing from dozens of paint shades and brush types to make each model unique. Alternatively, you can use paint schemes created by professional model painters to make your army look the best on the battlefield.

To sign up for the playtests, simply log into Steam and head to Moonbreaker's Steam page, then press the "Request Access" button under the "Join the Moonbreaker Playtest" section to register your interest. After confirming your request, you'll need to sit tight and wait for an email notification from the developers to see when they are ready for participants to jump in and explore the Reaches.

The 'Impossible' Nier Automata Church Mod Is Out Now

1 year 8 months ago

Remember when everyone wondered whether Nier Automata had a hidden church? After sightings of a mysterious door followed by days of intrigue, it was revealed to be a hoax – instead, it was an ambitious project by a trio of Nier modders.

Now, the mod – once thought to be impossible to make – has finally been released to the public. “IT’S OUT,” said modder DevolasRevenge via Twitter.

The Nier: Automata mod was originally unveiled on Reddit, as one user claimed to have discovered a whole new area that was never before seen.

“I think my game has a glitch since I keep going back to the beginning I don't know how to fix it and the cup has random letters or Korean,” they said. “Maybe I need to restart the game or retry the boss again or maybe I took too long to beat him.”

PS5 Getting 1440p Monitor Support Today

1 year 8 months ago

Update - 09/07/2022: Sony has announced that its PlayStation 5 firmware update that includes 1440p monitor support, Gamelists, and new social features will be available globally today, September 7.

Announced in a PlayStation Blog post, Sony's vice president of platform experience Hideaki Nishino said that these highly requested features - first confirmed to be on the way in July - will finally be fully released.

The blog post also revealed that Sony is testing other new features including the ability to do a voice search for YouTube videos from anywhere on the PS5 console. It's also adding new features to the PlayStation App including the ability to launch a remote play session straight from your phone and the option to request that friends share their screens.

Original Story: Sony's PlayStation 5 is finally getting 1440p monitor support thanks to an incoming firmware update.

As announced on the PlayStation Blog, the new feature has entered beta and is therefore essentially in the final stage of testing before Sony rolls it out to all PS5 users.

The 1440p support is particularly important for PC players, who have been requesting the feature since the console was released – especially as its competitor the Xbox Series X has supported 1440p since launch.

Steelrising Review

1 year 8 months ago

You know that one soulslike game that is a decent enough take on the genre, but also has a bit of wonkiness that otherwise holds it back? Sorry, did you think I was talking about Lords of the Fallen, or maybe Mortal Shell? Or perhaps you thought I meant The Surge, Ashen, Vampyr, or Remnant: From The Ashes – or even Thymesia from earlier this month? No, in this case I was referring to Steelrising, a French Revolution-themed action-RPG that’s chock full of creepy robots, emotionally unstable aristocrats in powdered wigs, and death screens that tell you you’re dead. The unfathomably weird setting is a delight, but simplistic combat and underwhelming boss fights end up making disappointing use of it. That means in the long list of recent serviceable soulslikes with lots of rough edges, Steelrising is… well, another one of those.

Xbox Series X/S Are Getting a Noise Suppression Feature

1 year 8 months ago

The days of having to tolerate your friend’s loud, obnoxious breathing noises over Xbox Party voice chat are done, as Xbox has just released a new Xbox Series X/S Noise Suppression feature. It is available right now upon downloading Xbox’s latest system update.

“We’ve added noise suppression to parties on Xbox Series X|S consoles to help remove unwanted noises like gamepad clicks, breathing, and background noise from your parties, the release notes said.”

The feature can be turned on or off at any time by opening the guide and accessing the “Options” section of the “Parties & chats” feature. From there, you can enable or disable noise suppression.

Xbox is the latest company to offer this technology, after apps like Zoom, Discord, and Nvidia started rolling out their noise filtration features, allowing users to fully filter out background noise.

The update also brought with it more features, for example, the ability to now be able to jump into a game from your friends’ shared captures — meaning that you can now watch your friend’s match highlights and start playing the game immediately after for yourself.
