Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Next Gen Versions Delayed

2 years 1 month ago

Got some bad news here, sorry to say. It has been announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Xbox Series X|S and PS5 versions have been delayed, presumably out of the Q2 window they were in.

The official Witcher game Twitter account had this to say:

We have decided to have our in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus have to postpone Q2 release until further notice. We’ll update you as soon as we can. Thank you for your understanding.

The “in-house development team” mentioned is important as previously, the next gen work on Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was being handled in part by “a trusted partner in collaboration with CD Projekt.” It seems that now CD Projekt Red will be assuming the remainder of development.

This news comes after the CD Projekt Red Quest Director was candid in saying that “we are all aware that there is work to be done” regarding Cyberpunk 2077 in a recent stream. CD Projekt Red devs have been certainly busy, which surely can’t be helping the new development change with Witcher 3’s next gen versions.

It’s been about two months since Cyberpunk 2077 got its next gen versions and 1.5 update. They haven’t even stepped back since that launch at near the end of last month put up update 1.52 for Cyberpunk 2077. There has been some good Witcher news, however, as season 3 of the Netflix series is officially in production.

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently available on PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
