A Total War Saga: Troy Shows Epic Duels and New Battle Features in First Gameplay

3 years 11 months ago

Today Creative Assembly released the first official gameplay video of the upcoming Total War game A Total War Saga: Troy.

The gameplay video showcases a battle between an army led by Achilles and one led by Hector, two iconic heroes portrayed in Homer’s Iliad.

We see how duels among heroes return from Total War: Three Kingdoms, but there are many new features to make battles between infantry units more dynamic and interesting. This is due to the fact that cavalry is rare in this period, and horse are mostly reserved for chariots.

Among the elements showcased are new terrain types (mud and tall grass) and a new distinction between heavy, medium, and light infantry.

On top of that, some units have different modes that let you switch them between offensive and defensive.

You can enjoy the video below.

The game was announced a while ago by Creative Assembly, and yesterday we learned that it’ll be exclusive to the Epic Games Store for a year. This is a one-off, and the developer doesn’t plan to continue with the same initiative on further Total War games going forward.

That being said, it’ll also be free for a day when it launches on August 13, 2020.
