Square Enix Announces AI & ARTS Alchemy Studio Focusing on “Entertainment AI”

Square Enix announced today via press release the establishment of the subsidiary named Square Enix AI & ARTS Alchemy.

The company will focus on using the know-how about artificial intelligence accumulated by Square Enix in the field of digital entertainment.

The goal is to promote research and business development centered on “Entertainment AI” that can be used not only in games but also in entertainment in general.

Square Enix AI & ARTS Alchemy

CEO of Square Enix AI & ARTS Alchemy will be Square Enix boss Yosuke Matsuda himself, while general manager of the Advanced Technology Division Remi Driancourt will be president and chief operating officer. Among other things, he worked on Agni’s philosophy, Final Fantasy XIV, Final Fantasy XV, and the WITCH tech demo.

The role of chief technology officer will be taken on by lead AI researcher Youichiro Miyake, who recently worked on the artificial intelligence for the Luminous Studio engine, while Takeshi Nozue will be chief art officer. You may know him for co-directing Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, directing Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, and working on the cinematics and animation of many Final Fantasy games.

At the moment, nothing else has been shared about the role of the company and about which specific projects it will contribute to. We’ll have to wait for further announcements.
