Sakura Wars Developers Would Love to Continue the Series; Comment on Possible Additional Platforms

3 years 10 months ago

Sega has finally brought back Sakura Wars after over a decade of silence, but we still don’t know what the future holds for the series.

To get a better idea of what we can expect, Twinfinite asked director Tetsuya Ootsubo directly during an interview.

Quizzed on whether he’d like to continue the series and if we can hope for a sequel, Ootsubo-san’s answer was certainly promising, indicating that the development team is pushing to make it happen.

“The development team would love to continue the series, and we’re pushing to make it happen. We appreciate all your support.”

Incidentally, we also asked whether he’d stick with action combat or go back to the turn-based battles featured in earlier Sakura Wars games. Ootsubo-san mentioned that, while the combat in the new game was indeed more action-focused, the developers understand that many still enjoy tactical RPGs, so they’re “continuing to research” what the “next steps should be in order to give fans the best possible experience.”

Currently, the latest Sakura Wars game is available only on PS4, so we also asked whether it could come to other platforms like PC, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch, or maybe even next-generation consoles. We hear that “active” research on the topic is being pursued.

“We’d love to expand the audience for the game! We’re actively researching to see where there is high demand and determine what actions will be feasible.”

Of course, you can expect to read the full interview on Twinfinite soon.

You can also enjoy the recently-released music videos including the clip dedicated to Sakura, one focusing on Lancelot, another showing Claris, one showcasing Yui Huang, another starring Atsuho, one showing Anastasia, one starring Azami, and the latest featuring Elise.
