Serenity Forge, the team responsible for co-developing and publishing Doki Doki Literature Club Plus alongside Team Salvato, announced on Twitter that the physical versions of the game would be delayed. This likely includes all versions of the physical game, whether it’s the regular boxed edition or the premium physical edition.
Serenity Forge cites “unforeseen delays with manufacturing and shipping as a result of Covid-19” as the reason of the delay.
The digital version has been out for over a month now, but the physical version was always slated to come later. Originally planned for late August, fans will need to wait a little bit longer until late September. Anyone who is eager can of course just go ahead and download the digital version now if they want, or just play the original version of the game for free on Steam. The Plus version adds eight new side stories that focus on 1 on 1 interaction between the various club members and a bunch of collectibles that share tidbits about the game and characters.
We adored Doki Doki Literature Club Plus when we reviewed it back in June. Not only is the original one of the most creative and iconic horror games of all time, but the Plus version adds a significant amount of story, doing a 180 on the tone and aims for wholesomeness instead of scares.
For those that are willing to wait for the premium physical edition, they’ll get treated to character standees, a download code for the soundtrack, a sticker sheet, an exclusive poem, and their very own membership card.
