LeBron James Reveals Logo For Space Jam Sequel

LeBron James is sending you an early invitation to come on and slam if you want to jam, as he revealed the logo for the new Space Jam sequel on social media called Space Jam: A New Legacy.

James also revealed that the movie will be released in theaters (and/or VOD, as the current pandemic warrants) one year from today. He forgot to mirror the image in the video below, but his message still stands.

The movie’s title makes perfect sense, since Michael Jordan, one of the greatest NBA players of all time, is passing the ball and Toon Squad jersey to James for him to play alongside the Looney Tunes and take on the Monstars once again, or whichever ominous team they’ll be playing against.

The poster for the Space Jam sequel was also revealed, where Bug Bunny once again shares the top billing. Unlike the poster for the original Space Jam, where then-Chicago Bulls player Jordan’s name appeared second, James’ name comes before Bugs’s.

James couldn’t have picked a more perfect time to reveal the logo and release date for Space Jam: A New Legacy, as the ESPN documentary The Last Dance discusses Jordan’s epic final game with the Chicago Bulls in the late 1990s.

In case you didn’t grow up abusing your VCR with the Space Jam cassette tape, the original movie pitted the Looney Tunes and the Monstars against each other after the latter team stole the hoop-shooting talents from the NBA players of the time, including Larry Bird, so Bugs summoned Jordan to the Looney Tunes universe for help to beat them in a one-time basketball game lest he and his friends be forced into slavery on Moron Mountain.

In the upcoming sequel, James and the Toon Squad may be playing against another evil force, as Don Cheadle is reportedly cast to play the villain that’s not an alien.

Space Jam: A New Legacy will be released on July 16, 2021.
