Ghost of Tsushima is very popular in Japan, and it appears that even game developers appreciated Sucker Punch’s latest labor of love.

Famitsu conducted its annual survey among Japanese developers and celebrities. 132 people voted for their favorite game of the year. The vast majority of them were were developers, with the addition of some celebrities including voice actors and a few more.

Turns out that Ghost of Tsushima was the most voted game this year, followed by Animal Crossing: New Horizon, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, and Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout.

For now, we don’t know the breakdown of the votes, but details will be published in the next issue on Famitsu releasing on Dec. 24.

Last year, a similar group of developers elected Death Stranding as their game of the year while Marvel’s Spider-Man triumphed in 2018.

Ghost of Tsushima is currently available exclusively for PS4 and you can read our review. We recently heard that the game sold over five million copies and is the fastest-selling first-party original PS4 game of all time.

It’s so popular in Japan that it even inspired a special episode of the long-running TV show “Sekai Fushigi Hakken!” (Discover the World’s Mysteries).
