Early next month the Final Fantasy XIV world will considerably expand for players of the ultra-popular MMORPG by Square Enix.
The much-anticipated update 6.18 which includes the data center travel feature will arrive on July 5.
This will drop the barriers between data centers in the same regions, so you will be able to visit friends on every server as long as they play in the same regional cluster of data centers among North America, Europe, and Japan.
On top of the new feature, the update will also bring a much-awaited expansion of the European data centers, including four new servers distributed in the following way.
New Worlds in the Chaos Data Center
- Sagittarius
- Phantom
New Worlds in the Light Data Center
- Alpha
- Raiden
Last, but not least, servers in the Japanese data centers will be regrouped. A new logical data center will be implemented to reduce load and some of the existing servers will be redistributed into it.
While the new data center travel feature is highly anticipated, there is a small price to pay for it, as the maintenance will last a whopping 24 hours, preventing players from playing while the servers are down.
Final Fantasy XIV has become the most profitable game in the Final Fantasy franchise, and the publisher’s own CEO Yosuke Matsuda mentioned that Square Enix is “extremely pleased” by its performance with paying subscribers consistently growing since before the release of the latest expansion. Further success is expected during the current fiscal year which will end in March 2023.
