First-person horror adventure game Amnesia: Rebirth received a new mode today that removes all of the horror from the game.

The free update added the new Adventure Mode which removes all of the life-threatening encounters with monsters alongside the sound and visual effects that could negatively affect the main character’s fear levels. Additionally, any location that contained pitch black darkness have been brightened up as shown below.

Adventure Mode does not affect the game’s story, the game’s original horror-filled mode, or the monsters themselves, just situations with monsters that could harm the player. The new mode also adds a few bonus puzzles.

“We believe that anyone who loves a good story-driven adventure game will be stoked about this new mode,” said creative lead Fredrik Olsson in a press release. “Not everyone is into horror and we don’t want that to block people from experiencing Tasi’s story. We did something very similar when we released the Safe mode for SOMA. It was extremely well received and opened up the game to a much broader audience, something we hope will happen with Rebirth as well.”

The Adventure Mode is now available in the PC version of Amnesia: Rebirth, and will be coming tot he PlayStation 4 version in “the next few weeks.” The game is currently on sale with a 40% discount across Steam, GOG.com, and Epis Games Store to celebrate the free update.
