All Silent Hill Monsters, Ranked by Fear Factor

1 year 6 months ago

Konami’s beloved foggy lakeside town boasts some of the most terrifying monstrosities in the entirety of gaming. Not only are they hideous to look at, but they also symbolically represent fear, unconscious guilt, or deep-rooted anxiety within a specific character. In other words, Silent Hill is essentially a mirror, while the monsters are, in essence, a manifestation of the feelings of a specific individual. But what are the scariest monsters that reside in the titular locale? We’ve done the math, so you don’t have to, so let’s dive in, shall we?

Editor’s Note: Thanks to the sheer number of monstrosities that roam the fog-ridden streets of Silent Hill, we’ve listed some of the enemies in the middle of this guide, and will update the remaining entries with an image and more information in the future.

75.) The Void

Game: Silent Hill: Downpour

If a nondescript twinkle of red light chasing you down corridors sounds like nightmare fuel, you should probably just hand in your horror fan credentials right now. Seriously, Downpour’s enemy variety was largely panned by the community, and this thing is easily the worst offender.

74.) Swarm

Games: Silent Hill: Homecoming, Silent Hill: Book of Memories

Pretty much a big ol’ cockroach on steroids, this is far from Silent Hill’s most scary creatures, though if you have a fear of bugs, this could give you some mild heebie-jeebies.

73.) Bloodsucker

Game: Silent Hill

Yes, leaches are horrid little things, but when it comes to their scare factor in a series as terrifying as Silent Hill? Nah. Instead, they’re largely routine nuisances that don’t really get our backs up. Next!

72.) Weeping Bat

Game: Silent Hill: Downpour

At first blush, the Weeping Bat looks pretty foreboding, but on closer inspection, it’s really just a tall albino figure with a weird maw in its face. Unpleasant? Sure. Really, really scary? Not really, no.

71.) Feral

This one’s a wee doggo, but with one minor addition: it’s had its skin flayed off. Sure, I wouldn’t wanna meet it in a dark alley, but it’s still far from Silent Hill’s most bloodcurdling offerings.
