All Microsoft Events to be Digital Until Next Year Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

4 years 1 month ago

Microsoft has announced that all its internal and external events will be “digital-first” until July of 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The news comes by way of a Tweet from Microsoft MVP and community contributor Ginny Caughey, which was spotted by Gamesindustry.biz.

The statement reads:

“In light of the challenges presented by COVID-19, Microsoft has been closely monitoring the developing global situation and re-assessing the overall company-wide in-person event strategy. As a company, Microsoft has made the decision to transition all external and internal events to a digital first experience through July 2021.

This will include the future MVP & RD Summit which is currently scheduled for March 28 – April 2, 2021. We will continue to evaluate the situation and look forward to connecting in person when the situation allows.”

As noted by the outlet, there’s no clarification on how this will impact Xbox events as yet. It’s likely that digital events like Inside Xbox will continue in place of anything physical, such as X020 and the like.

Speaking of Inside Xbox, there’s one being held later today. The headliner is news on Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming survival game Grounded, but you can expect on Gears Tactics, Sea of Thieves, and Xbox Game Pass. Indie surprises from the ID@Xbox team have also been promised. Further details are here.
