During today’s financial conference call for investors and analysts, Activision Blizzard chief executive officer Bobby Kotick, chief operating officer Daniel Alegre, and chief financial officer Dennis Durkin talked about the plans for the World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch franchises by Blizzard Entertainment.
Kotick mentioned that Blizzard plans to deliver “more frequent premium content” within the Warcraft franchise to “sustain and expand the World of Warcraft community.”
“Multiple mobile free to play Warcraft experiences” are also coming and are now in advanced development. This is intended to create opportunities for existing and new fans to experience the franchise in “entirely new ways.”
On top of that, Blizzard plans to “reinvigorate the franchise for the existing community with the launch of Overwatch 2” but also “substantially broaden the [Overwatch] community through business model and growth initiatives across platforms.”
No further information was provided on what those “business model and growth initiatives” are, at the moment of this writing.
Later in the call, we also heard from Alegre that “2022 will be a great year for Blizzard.”
Durkin then mentioned that Activision’s financial guidance does not include Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4’s releases in 2021, which is pretty much a soft way to hint that they’re likely not coming this year.
This was further confirmed with the mention that the company expects Blizzard to release “Major new titles across consoles, PC, and mobile” in 2022 and to “drive significant financial growth.”
