Cloud Gardens is a Calming, Zen Experience on the Switch

1 year 10 months ago

Cloud Gardens is a Calming, Zen Experience on the Switch

The Nintendo Switch is a pretty great system for indie games. Something small and manageable. It’d be good on a PC or kind of console that demands a TV. But there’s something extra convenient and soothing about the portable opportunity. The Cloud Gardens Switch port is perfectly suited for that sort of experience.

For those who missed it on other platforms, Cloud Gardens is both a puzzle game and sandbox experience. In the campaign, you go through different post-apocalyptic scenes. In each one, the world is dilapidated and filled with remnants of those who came before. It is up to the player to plant seeds. You then place more debris and items around to encourage the plants to grow. As they do, you can collect their flowers and trimmings to eventually earn more seeds.

Cloud Gardens is a Calming, Zen Experience on the Switch

Your goal is to fill a certain percentage of each area with greenery. Once you do, you unlock the next. You’ll also earn any items or seeds found in the previous stage for the custom, freeform gardens you can tend. Eventually, you’ll also get tools to make sucking up parts of plants to get more seeds easier. There is also a chainsaw for pruning. Not to mention you can call back some placed items to readjust the scene.

25 Years of Final Fantasy Tactics

1 year 10 months ago

final fantasy tactics 25th anniversary

Final Fantasy Tactics launched in Japan on June 20, 1997. To celebrate the sub-franchise’s 25th anniversary, we’re sharing our Final Fantasy Tactics memories.

My Final Fantasy Tactics memory is a sad one! I arrived fashionably late to the PlayStation party and acquired a system long after launch. Which meant I didn't get to its games for a while! I'd purchased a used copy of FFT and meant to play it! I did get into a few battles. But an ex-boyfriend indefinitely "borrowed" it.Which means I didn't really play it until War of the Lions for the PSP. Given the extra classes and refinements, that probably wasn't the worst thing. — Jenni

final fantasy tactics 25 years

I've got two main Final Fantasy Tactics memories. The first dates back to a few years after the PS1 release, when I was in high school and found out that the copy of Tactics that was given to me as a birthday present was worth several hundred dollars on a website called "eBay," but only if it was in good condition. Sadly, my copy wasn't.

More Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Soundtrack Songs Shared

As part of the measures to promote Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Nintendo shared even more songs from its soundtrack. It initially released a track connected to the main characters Noah and Mio. However, the newest ones are more general music people will hear when going through the game.

Both of the new songs feature the same background image. That means people can see the Mechonis and Uraya titan while the music plays.

Here’s “The Weight of Life,” the first of the two new tracks shared.

The second new song from the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 soundtrack is “Keves Battle.” This is one of the battle themes and, given the name, it will probably play when characters are fighting in Noah, Eunie, and Lanz’s homeland.

As spillways are built at dams, there will likely be potential water hazard areas to fall into. However, the look at the Splatoon 3 Turf War map mainly focuses on surfaces people can walk along and leave ink on. A few platforms also appear, suggesting spots where people could make leaps to jump or ascend to new locations. Some jellyfish appear at the very end.

FFVII Developers Share That Barret Can Lift the Buster Sword

1 year 10 months ago

FFVII Buster Sword

Square Enix is releasing a series of interviews with various members of the Final Fantasy VII Remake development team. The first interview went into detail regarding how the team went about creating the script, which was mostly based on feelings, and answered the question as to whether or not Barret could lift the iconic Buster Sword from FFVII.

In short, the answer is yes. However, Character Modeling Director Maasaki Kazeno said that Barret being able to lift the Buster Sword is very different from wielding it.

If you extrapolate this difference in terms of simple physical strength, then yes, Barret does look like he could lift and chop with the Buster Sword in one hand.

However, that is a very different thing to asking if he could wield it as a weapon. If we assume that the Buster Sword is made from iron then it would be a gigantic sword that weighs around 40kg and there would be many factors required to actually wield it effectively, other than just brawn.

He went on to mention how impressive it is that Cloud is able to wield the weapon. The interview also delved into the stance Cloud takes in Punisher Mode, one of the combat stances he has in the game. And Battle Director Teruki Endo stated that despite the similarities to Sephiroth's stance when using the Masamune, the way Cloud wields the Buster Sword in FFVII Remake by comparison was coincidence.

FFVII Rebirth

The next part of the remake of Final Fantasy VII is called Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but the project as a whole will be a trilogy according to Square Enix. Following the reveal of FFVII Rebirth during the Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary stream, messages from Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura, Director Naoki Hamaguchi, and Producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed the project's three-part structure.

https://twitter.com/finalfantasyvii/status/1537561006917943300

Nomura confirmed that he was actively involved in development for all four Final Fantasy VII-related projects at Square Enix. He said that FFVII Rebirth in particular was being designed for people to enjoy "whether they know the original game or not". He said that some new players might even like to see Rebirth as their own starting point with Final Fantasy VII. Further, the new development structure in place at Square Enix has meant that progress on Rebirth has moved rapidly. According to Nomura, some development has "already begun" on the third part of the trilogy.

For his part, producer Kitase said that development was proceeding "at an astonishingly fast pace" for title of the FFVII Remake project's scale. FFVII Rebirth being the middle part of a trilogy would come with its own challenges, but he expressed confidence that Rebirth would take a place among other beloved second entries. The team aims to top the first installment as well, in terms of being a "gripping and memorable experience".

1 year 10 months ago

There's no JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R rollback netcode, but it will have 60fps on most platforms and cross-gen multiplayer

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R Producer Kentaro Matano confirmed the game will not have rollback netcode. In an official update, Matano went over various details about the game. It also confirmed frame rates, resolutions, additions to the game, and cross-gen multiplayer as well.

Matano not only said JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R will not offering rollback netcode. In the FAQs, he also noted that "there are no plans to implement it at this time."

Finally, Matano talked about things added and removed. He noted that the original story mode and campaign are gone. Instead, he mentioned All-Star Battle, Team Battle, and Tournament modes are there instead. So are six new fighters and moveset additions like assist attacks and the Stylish Guard.

In terms of frame rate, almost every console will be at 60fps. The only one that won’t is the Switch. It will be locked in at 30fps. The PS5, Xbox One X, and Xbox Series X are the three consoles that will all also display it in 4K.

Guilty Gear Strive Ramlethal Valentine Nendoroid Pre-orders Open

Back at WonHobby G Spring 2022, a painted prototype of a Guilty Gear Strive Ramlethal Valentine Nendoroid appeared. Now, pre-orders are open. She will cost $86.99/¥9,500. Folks in Japan will see her first, as she'll debut there in December 2022. A North American release will follow in February 2023.

Good Smile Company first announced this figure back in February 2022. At the time, only official art appeared. However, the final figure is fairly true to her Guilty Gear Strive appearance. She has the same outfit and two face plates. One is stoic, and the other makes it look like she is yelling. Lucifero is by her side as usual, carrying her two greatswords. She can also only be displayed with her hat on.

Here's a look at some of the possible poses for the Ramlethal Nendoroid.

Get a Kick Out of Mario Strikers: Battle League, but Not Much Else

1 year 10 months ago

mario strikers battle league review

Mario Strikers: Battle League marks a return of a much-loved series. The GameCube and Wii Strikers installments garnered a lot of affection from those who played them, bringing a different sort of feel to Mario sports than the Camelot, Namco and Square Enix entries. It hits hard! It focuses on competition! This formula makes even more sense now, as Nintendo’s modern era amps up a focus on intense versus play.

Still, we can’t help but feel disappointed by Battle League, and for many of the same problems that have plagued Nintendo’s sports releases in recent years.

In Battle League, you play "Strike," which is officially not soccer but unofficially very much soccer. You play 5-on-5, with automated goalkeepers and a four-character team of your choosing. Because it’s Mario, there are power-ups and items like mushrooms and shells! And collecting a special shiny energy ball called a Strike Orb gives you a super-powered shot, but you need to create space and time to get through several meters to pull one off.

Skullgirls Black Dahlia Alpha Begins

The Skullgirls 2nd Encore Black Dahlia PC alpha is live. A larger group of people can now try using the Medici assassin in-game. As long as someone owns the Season 1 Pass on Steam, which costs $34.99, they can access the new character.

This marks the first widespread availability of Black Dahlia. She first appeared at Combo Breaker 2022 at the end of May 2022. However, this version should function similarly to that initial appearance. As this is an early build, not all art and animations will be in place for the character. There will also be balancing and adjustments as her eventual full release draws near.

New Trigun Project Teased via Twitter

1 year 10 months ago

Trigun

A classic series from the 1990s may be on the verge of a comeback. An anonymous Japanese Twitter account called "$$6,000,000 Bounty" ($$6,000,000の賞金首) popped up with a teaser for what could be a new project related to Trigun. The 1998 anime adaptation of Yasuhiro Nightow's manga is considered a classic of the genre, and fondly remembered by many older anime fans.

Check out the account's single Tweet below.

https://twitter.com/6MillionBounty/status/1537268728093544448

The tweet shows off a torn-up wanted poster in the wild west style. The tears hide the face of the sought-after character and a logo, revealing a date, which is June 17, 2022. The telltale sign that could be linking the project to Trigun is the bounty amount (and the Twitter account's name) of 6 million "double dollars." The double dollar sign ($$) was used in Trigun's setting, and its main character, Vash the Stampede, had a bounty on his head of $$60 billion. The series itself follows the adventures of Vash on a distant desert planet, while he takes on over-the-top assassins, explores his mysterious past, and is pursued by a pair of insurance agents out to keep him from racking up too much property damage.

Ordinarily, a vague tease like this wouldn't catch much attention, but it received early retweets and follows from prominent accounts. Those accounts included that of Yoshiyuki Fudetani, Trigun's manga editor, and the official account of Young King Ours magazine, the home publication of the Trigun Maximum manga series.
