In a world first, ROG has combined both game and hardware to give players a whole new gaming experience that bridges the gap between the virtual world and reality. In conjunction with the release of the brand new ROG Strix SCAR 17 Special Edition gaming laptop, powered by the latest Intel Core i9 processor, Republic of Gamers (ROG) has launched SCAR Runner, a free-to-play expansion for Citadel XV. The all-new first-person parkour game is available to download for free from Steam now.
The tandem release of both the ROG Strix SCAR 17 SE and SCAR Runner goes beyond any hardware and software launch before, as the two integrate in new and inventive ways. Players are able to find hidden clues on the chassis of the ROG Strix SCAR 17 SE gaming laptop itself that help them solve in-game puzzles. Uncovering these clues will require the use of a beady eye, or a UV light to reveal the invisible ink on the hardware.
Running Free
SCAR Runner is a single-player parkour DLC for Citadel XV that follows the story of the mysterious ‘X’, a freerunning hero in a race against time to recover critical information surrounding a character named PDK. Players have to jump, clamber, and roll across the rooftops of the sprawling Goemon City to discover the truth, navigating the hazards of the metropolis’ industrial zones and solving fiendish puzzles before time runs out. Combining high-octane action and real-world puzzle solving, SCAR Runner is an all-new chapter in the ROG SAGA Universe.
Blending Realities
In addition to Strix SCAR 17 SE’s striking cyberpunk aesthetic, the laptop also features a first-of-its-kind invisible ink applied directly to the metal chassis.
Using a UV flashlight on the ink reveals designs in green and blue – but that’s not all. These previously invisible inscriptions hold clues to help players beat SCAR Runner by offering hints to puzzle solutions.
Citadel XV
Released in 2021, ROG Citadel XV is a single-player, free-to-play FPS that combines mini-games with cutting-edge ROG product display. The virtual experience developed by ROG takes place in the ROG universe, of which SCAR Runner is a new chapter.
