Nintendo has updated the Princess Peach: Showtime box art to look a bit more like The Super Mario Bros. Movie's version of the character.
As spotted by No Context Super Mario on Twitter (below), the upcoming Nintendo Switch game's key art has been updated to make Peach look just a little less gleeful.

The bizarre change is barely noticeable unless fans are actually looking for it, but does affect both the traditional-looking Peach in the art alongside Kung Fu Peach, who also gets a more determined, perhaps angrier update.
Naturally, it's already a cause of confusion and the butt of a few jokes online. "This doesn't matter at all but prepare for people to get mad over it anyway," said Lost In Cult's Ryan T Brown on Twitter. Brown also notes this applies to both the Japanese and U.S. box art so isn't just Nintendo reflecting Kirby's stateside anger in its other pink-heavy mascot. For those unfamiliar, pointed out by Stilgrave on Reddit, several Kirby box arts show the character happy and cheerful in the Japanese version but angry and determined in the U.S.
It's perhaps unsurprising Nintendo has veered Peach's art to be more in line with The Super Mario Bros. Movie considering it was a smash hit, pulling in more than $1 billion at the global box office.
Princess Peach: Showtime was announced in September and is due out on March 22, 2024, exclusively for Nintendo Switch. Players will be tasked with saving a Sparkle Theatre play by transforming into Swordfighter Peach, Kung Fu Peach, Patissier Peach, and Detective Peach, with gameplay changing depending on the character.
