Pokémon TCG Classic Announced, a Premium Trading Card Package Inspired by the Original Base Set

The Pokémon Company has announced Pokémon TCG Classic, a premium Pokémon card product inspired by the original Base Set.

Announced during February's Pokémon Presents event, a swanky trailer showed off the new product including its special game board and pieces that come alongside the new (old) cards.

Revealed in a follow-up blog post, The Pokémon Company confirmed hat Pokémon TCG Classic will be released in late 2023 and includes a foldable game board, a toolbox for storing counters, three decks starring Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise, and three deck boxes.

The product description for Pokémon TCG Classic says that, with the exception of basic energy cards, cards that come in the set cannot be used in regulation tournament.

This means that Pokémon TCG Classic will be a set product, almost like a board game, that is intended to be played casually with friends. This is supported by The Pokémon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara, who said it "is designed to be a premium Pokémon TCG set that will last a lifetime."

The decks won't all be classic cards, however, as The Pokémon Company also confirmed that "never-before-seen cards like Ho-Oh ex and Lugia ex" will feature alongside the Base Set classics to liven up the gameplay.
