Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Mobile RPG From NetherRealm Available Now

6 months 3 weeks ago

With Mortal Kombat 1 just over a month old, Warner Bros. Games has launched Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, its mobile-exclusive collection role-playing game set in the Mortal Kombat universe.

Onslaught, out now for free on the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android, features party-based combat that plays out automatically, with the player tapping to trigger special abilities and combos. Yes, there are Fatalities.

There’s a fleshed out Story Mode that revolves around Shinnok’s bid for destruction. Mortal Kombat veterans Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Sub-Zero go up with familiar villains such as Shang Tsung, Kano, and Shao Kahn in what appears to be their Mortal Kombat 11 visual style.

Expect Boss Tower and Chasm modes, as well as an Arena in which you can challenge other players in real-time matches that take part in PvP seasons. Screenshots are in the slideshow above.

“In Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, players will be able to unleash total mayhem in strategic, fast-paced battles with up to 10 characters at once,” said Ed Boon, chief creative officer of NetherRealm Studios and co-creator of Mortal Kombat.

“Mortal Kombat: Onslaught introduces a new level of strategic gameplay and we’re excited to see how players build their teams to overcome various opponents and challenges.”

It’s a busy time for the Mortal Kombat universe, with Mortal Kombat 1 barely a month old, DLC characters such as Omni-Man from Amazon’s Invincible series waiting in the wings, and a second Mortal Kombat movie in the works.

However, Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm faced criticism for the poor quality of the Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1, which prompted Boon to promise updates to improve performance. The first of these launched last week.
