Metroid Prime: Switch Remaster Getting Shadow Drop on Nintendo eShop

1 year 3 months ago

After years of rumors, Metroid Prime is finally getting a remaster on Nintendo Switch, and it's out on eShop today.

Announced during today's Nintendo Direct, the remaster will feature new twin stick controls among other enhancements. A physical release was also announced, with a release date planned at a future date.

Metroid Prime was released for GameCube in 2002, and translated the series' 2D style into a first-person game with huge success. At the time we awarded it a 9.8/10 review, calling it "an instant classic that you will use to measure forthcoming software by."

After a trilogy of games, Metroid Prime went quiet, but 2017 saw the announcement of a fourth game – although that game went through some development issues before being handed to original developer Retro Studios.

It seems Nintendo is finally embracing Metroid once more, however – between this remaster, Metroid Prime 4, and the excellent Metroid Dread, the series is undergoing something of a renaissance.

Metroid Prime will be out on Nintendo eShop today. Check out everything announced during today's Nintendo Direct right here.
