Horizon Forbidden West is almost here, and it's fair to say we're all itching to get our hands on the game on February 18. If you've opted to preorder, we wanted to pass along some quick advice that could save you a little bit of money if you're looking to play the game on PS5.
Right now Horizon Forbidden West is listed at $70 to buy on PS5, both physical and digital editions, alongside $60 for a copy on PS4. But, if you've been paying attention, you will have noticed that Horizon Forbidden West is still getting a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade. Yep, you read that correctly. Putting two and two together, this means you can save $10 on the game, simply by purchasing the PS4 version (see here) and upgrading for free. Here's how to do it.
Save $10 on Horizon Forbidden West Preorders with This Trick
If you preorder Horizon Forbidden West for PS4, that's $60, and $10 saving compared to PS5 preorders, and you still get both copies of the game (see it at Amazon).
The only difference you'll find if you preorder the game physically is the blue PS4 cover sleeve, instead of the clean white PS5 cover. Before you preorder, better also check out what comes in each Horizon Forbidden West Edition.
Horizon Forbidden West: How to Upgrade from PS4 to PS5
Once you have received or picked up your PS4 copy of Horizon Forbidden West, you can insert your PS4 copy of the game into a PS5 console (digital owners can skip this step, just purchase the PS4 version from the PlayStation Store to receive your free upgrade).
After this, you will then get the option to download and receive a free PS5 upgrade for the game. This includes all the bells and whistles of the new system (increased frame rate, graphical fidelity, loading time etc). Remember, each time you play the game, you will still need to insert the PS4 disc.
Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 Upgrade
If you're looking to play the first game in the series before Forbidden West launches on February 18, Horizon Zero Dawn can currently be played on a PS5 with increased frame rate and graphical fidelity. Trust me when I say that Zero Dawn at 60FPS is glorious and well-worth checking out before Horizon Forbidden West.
There's been no indication that Horizon Zero Dawn is going to be getting a full PS5 re-release, however, so for now, feel free to pick it a PS4 copy and play the upgraded version on the new console, it's still pretty great as it is.
This is Final Free PS4 to PS5 Upgrade
It's not all good news, however, as this trick will only be available for Horizon Forbidden West. Sony has confirmed that all future PS4-PS5 game launches will include a $10 upgrade path for those looking to move between generations of console, including God of War Ragnarok, and Gran Turismo 7.
In other Forbidden West news, Horizon Forbidden West developers have teased Aloy's New Villain, alongside releasing a brand new trailer for the upcoming PlayStation exclusive which will launch on February 18, 2022.
