Beyond Good & Evil 2 Still In Pre-Production After All These Years

2 years 3 months ago

Beyond Good & Evil 2 has seemingly been in development hell for years, and there doesn't appear to be a finish line anywhere in sight.

Bloomberg reports that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in pre-production after over five years of development. Rumblings of a Beyond Good & Evil sequel date all the way back to 2008, when Ubisoft showed off what seemed to be a teaser trailer for the game.

Nearly a decade later at E3 2017, the game was finally revealed. It looked like an incredibly ambitious project, promising a multi-planet world populated by dynamically-generated characters.

The long-awaited sequel returned at E3 2018, revealing a partnership with Joseph Gordon-Levitt's HitRecord, a production company that allows fans and community members to assist in a project's development. This meant collaborators could create music and art that could appear in the game. We last heard of the game in July 2021, when Ubisoft said it was "too early" to say anymore about the game. It's anyone's guess as to if we'll see the project again anytime soon.

The original Beyond Good & Evil was released in 2003 for GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. It's an action-adventure that takes place in the year 2435, featuring Jade and her uncle, a pig-like creature named Pey'j. The game was well-received upon its release, and also got an HD rerelease in 2011.
