Astro's Playroom Developer is Working on Its Biggest-Ever Game

Astro's Playroom and Astro Bot Rescue Mission developer Team Asobi is currently working on its biggest ever game.

Speaking to GI.biz, Team Asobi's creative and studio director Nicolas Doucet said the developer isn't being limited by time or money in the creation of its new project, which will be its first since PlayStation 5 launch title Astro's Playroom was released in 2020.

Unlike the free-to-play Astro's Playroom, however, this new game will be a full commercial title "and our biggest to date," Doucet said.

"We're not giving ourselves any limits. If good people want to join Team Asobi then we will be wiling to talk to them," he added. "There is always stuff to do. There is always new projects to begin. We are not limited by any money or time. If we could double the studio just like that, we would find work for everybody."

Doucet also explained that around 10% of Team Asobi is always testing new technologies to use in upcoming games, commenting that the PS5's DualSense controller has become a "special weapon" for the development team.

It appears the new game will therefore innovate further on how the controller can be used, with Astro's Playroom highlighting myriad DualSense features including its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

This was also a key theme in our 8/10 review, as IGN said: "Astro's Playroom is a great showcase for the varied, impressive ways the DualSense can immerse you in next-gen games."
