Assassin's Creed Valhalla Gameplay Trailer Reveals Sieges

3 years 11 months ago
The very first in-game footage of Assassin's Creed Valhalla has been showcased by Microsoft as part of May's Inside Xbox presentation. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/07/assassins-creed-valhalla-game-engine-reveal"] While very short, the trailer includes gameplay - or, rather, in-engine - snippets that hint to longship combat, beach raids, and, most importantly, siege warfare. We can see Vikings approaching a Saxon castle, accompanied by massive siege equipment such as a battering ram for breaking down castle doors. It looks like the next step up from Assassin's Creed Odyssey's conquest battles. In a short interview after the trailer was shown, game director Ashraf Ismail promised that Assassin's Creed Valhalla will allow players to "assault giant fortifications in epic battles" which further hints towards siege warfare. He also said that you will be able to forge alliances with kings, suggesting some kind of political choice system. Combat has also been reinvented, and is said to be "visceral and brutal" - we see Eivor throw an axe at one point - and there is also a fresh take on progression.
