Super Mario RPG remake Yoko Shimomura

Prolific Japanese composer Yoko Shimomura confirmed that she is returning as the composer for the soundtrack of the upcoming Super Mario RPG remake. Yoko Shimomura is well known for her work in the Kingdom Hearts series, Final Fantasy XV, the Parasite Eve series, Xenoblade Chronicles, as well as the Mario & Luigi series.

Yoko Shimomura herself revealed her involvement in the upcoming Super Mario RPG remake through her Twitter account, posting shortly after the announcement of the game.

Here is a translation of Shimomura’s tweet:

“I am in charge of the music for the remake version of Super Mario RPG, which was announced during today’s Nintendo Direct. I have put all of my heart in arranging all of the music in the game, hoping that both fans of the original and those playing for the very first time will enjoy it! Please look forward to more information!”

She later tweeted again thanking fans for their words and support after the announcement, and added a picture of the soundtrack of the original game.

Super Mario RPG originally released for the Super Famicon on March 1996 in Japan, and later for the SNES on May of the same year in North America. The game was originally developed in collaboration with Square.

The Super Mario RPG remake will come out exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on November 17, 2023.
