The awards look at search terms that became more popular than usual between 2021 and 2022. There are multiple categories, ranging from musicians to athletes to products. The entire list is available on the Yahoo website.
Because Yahoo is a popular search engine in Japan, these winners give a good look at cultural trends in the country. This article will focus on four of the select categories, as well as noteworthy entries in other ones. For some of them, Yahoo gave reasons for why a particular term became more popular that year.

“Zankyosanka” and “New Genesis,” which are from Demon Slayer and One Piece Film: Red respectively, appeared on the top 10 searches for music. “Zankyosanka” was first whereas "New Genesis” was fourth. In seventh place is “I'm Invincible” and in tenth is “Tot Musica,” which are both from One Piece Film: Red as songs Uta (Ado) sang.
