Square Enix President Matsuda Says Blockchain Games Coming in Fiscal Year 2024

In the document going over the Outline of Financial Results Briefing by Square Enix Holdings held on Feb. 3, 2023, a hint appeared as to when to expect the company’s blockchain games. President and Representative Director Yosuke Matsuda brought them up during a Q&A. When someone asked about the company’s approach to major releases and sustainable growth, Matsuda pointed to blockchain titles that will arrive during or after the third quarter of fiscal year 2024. Here is Matsuda’s exact response to a question expressing concern about maintain growth year over year and continuing profitability into the 2025 fiscal year.

Major title launches will not be concentrated solely in FY2024/3. We have organized our pipeline so that we will have a good spread of new releases in FY2025/3 and beyond as well. We also hope that you will look forward to the blockchain games we plan to launch in FY2024/3 and thereafter.

Matsuda's 2023 A New Year’s Letter from the President for Square Enix also mentioned the company's commitment to NFT and blockchain games.

As a reminder, Matsuda will soon no longer be the president of Square Enix. At the beginning of March 2023, the company revealed Takashi Kiryu will become the next president and representative director. Matsuda will continue to hold the role until June 2023.

Square Enix hasn't revealed too many of its blockchain games ideas yet, but it did mention an NFT project. Symbiogenesis is set to launch in Spring 2023.
